GRACE SAT AT THE COUNTER, drinking her morning coffee as she had her notebook in front of her. She was still looking over her case, trying to figure out where the murder weapon could be. She glanced up, noticing that Hayley was searching the fridge intently. Grace smiles as she raises an eyebrow, tilting her head. "Are you looking for something, sugar?" Grace asks her curiously making the brunette look at her. Hayley lets out a sigh as she bites the inside of her cheek.
"Milk," Hayley states as she scrunched up her nose. Grace furrows her eyebrows, glancing down at her coffee that she had put milk in not five minutes ago. "I thought you bought groceries?" She asks as she places her hand on her hip. Grace just shrugs her shoulders, taking a sip of her coffee.
"I did." Grace retorts making the girl sigh loudly before looking back into the fridge. Grace chuckled to herself as she knew it was pregnancy brain since the carton was in plain view to her.
"Morning," Elijah says as he walks into the kitchen, catching both of their attention. Grace glances at him as she takes a bite out of her toast, waving her hand briefly before looking back down at her notebook.
"Hey," Hayley replies softly before turning her head and seeing Rebekah walking in from outside. "Listen, I know Grace and I are the only ones in this house that actually drink milk but would it kill any of you to actually make sure it's on the grocery list?" Hayley asks the two siblings with a groan, desperately wanting to have cereal but she couldn't without the milk.
"Speaking of, add bleach," Rebekah says as she points to Hayley before walking out of the kitchen. Grace raises an eyebrow, a smirk on her lips before she just rests her chin on her palm.
"You know, I do hope my siblings were hospitable towards you during my absence," Elijah says as he looks towards Hayley once again. Grace only flickers her eyes between them, simply watching their interaction.
"In your absence, as you like to call it, which is a polite way to say that your brother put a dagger in your heart.." Hayley states as she raises an eyebrow at the vampire. Elijah only gives a small smile as he makes his way over to her. "I have been attacked by French quarter vampires. I've had to live in a house with a secret dungeon full of coffins and I was nearly murdered by witches who are convinced that my babyย is Lucifer." Hayley rambles on as Elijah takes things out of the fridge. He only glances at her as he pours the cereal into the bowl before taking the milk and pouring it in as well which makes Hayley freeze. "Oh." Hayley watched the man pull back the Milk, and put the lid on. Elijah only raises an eyebrow at her. "Milk." She mutters as she presses her lips together, her cheeks turning red lightly. Grace only smirks as she shakes her head. "They have been fine," Hayley assures him with a sigh as she runs her hand through her hair. "Your siblings a weirdly protective, I know I have you to thank for that." She says as she leans against the counter, gazing up at the man. Grace squints her eyes, moving them to Elijah who stares down at her with a hint of affection.
"I'm just glad to see that you're in one piece," Elijah admits as he offers a kind smile. Grace noticed the way Hayley was staring at the man.
"Aww, isn't that just incredibly sweet?" Grace asks, making both of them look towards her. She only smirks at them, giving them a wink. Elijah just smiled lightly, glancing down at the ground while Hayley didn't look amused.
"Eat your toast," Hayley says bluntly as she gestures to the plate in front of her. Grace squints her eyes, sucking in her cheek.
"You don't tell me what to do." Grace retorts sassily as she raises an eyebrow at Hayley. Since she was the older one, it was always Grace telling Hayley what to do. Whenever Hayley tried, Grace often either just ignored her or laughed it off.
"Now, back to the murderous witches. I have some concerns." Elijah says as he looks back towards Hayley. The girl nods her head, probably sharing the exact same thoughts as him.
"They're evil and my life is somehow still linked to Sophie Devereux which is not comforting." Hayley points out as she leans her hand against the counter. Her eyes flicker to grace for a moment, seeing her just intently writing something down.
"Yeah, I think it's time we took care of that little problem," Elijah tells her as he knew Sophie had ulterior motives that he didn't need since the girl wanted to murder an innocent teenager.
"I am all for it," Rebekah says as she walks back into the kitchen, dragging the dead body of a woman with her. Grace only raises her eyebrows as she watches the girl walk past her. If they were humans, she would definitely convict their asses of murder. But they were vampires so the laws were a bit different. "As soon as they're unlinked, we get to leave this crap town." She mutters as she glances around the kitchen. "Who do we have to kill?" Rebekah asks the man who only squints his eyes at his sister.
"Probably no one." He replied but Rebekah only stared at him, even Hayley didn't look too convinced. "Okay, potentially everyone." Elijah corrects himself making Grace snort, never once as a lawyer did she think she would be listening to a conversation where people admit they are gonna commit murder
"Well, isn't this just a riveting conversation?" Grace says, picking up her notebook and her mug and deciding to exit the kitchen. She sees Klaus reading something on the couch but just walks right by him to get to the stairs.
"Not even a good morning, love?" Klaus asks, making her stop in her step. Grace sighed, turning to face the man who was only smirking at her.
"It's no longer good now that you're here." Grace mutters as she crosses her arms against her chest. Klaus simply squints his eyes at her, his jaw clenching.
"Do you always feel the need to be so hostile?" Klaus asks her, genuinely curious if it was all men or if she had some sort of vendetta against him for no apparent reason.
"Just towards you." She retorts as she shrugs her shoulders, giving him a blunt expression. Klaus scoffs as he lets his tongue poke the inside of his cheek.
"You're not so charming yourself," Klaus states as he shakes his head, his eyes flickering back to his book. Grace only laughs lightly, placing a hand on her hip.
"I'm plenty charming," Grace tells him, watching as his eyes roll slightly. She only leans down towards him. "Just ask that sister of yours." She states with a smirk playing on her lips. Klaus only raises an eyebrow as the girl backs away from him before turning and heading up the stairs.
HAYLEY LET OUT A GASP AS SHE GRABS AT HER NECK, furrowing her eyebrows as she pulled her finger away, seeing blood on her fingertips. Rebekah and Grace who were walking into the living room together seemed to notice this. "What the hell was that?" Rebekah asks as they quicken their pace. Hayley only shakes her head, looking towards the two women.
"Hell if I know, it felt like I was being stabbed," Hayley tells them as she rubs at her neck. Grace frowns as she stands next to her, taking a look over her appearance.
"Are you okay, sugar?" Grace asks concerned as she brushes the girl's hair out of her face.
"I think so," Hayley says as she sits on the chair behind her, Grace helping her. Rebekah had left the room for a moment, neither girl knowing where she went.
"I thought Elijah was asking the witch girl to unlink you?" Grace questions as she stares down at her sister.
"Davina?" Hayley asks and Grace just shrugs her shoulders, she doesn't know anyone's names and she couldn't care less to learn them if she's never met them. "Yeah, he's supposed to be." She says as she nods her head, Elijah had gone off to talk to Davina with Klaus.
"My brother often takes a while with these things," Rebekah says as she walks back into the room, this time holding a bowl of apples.ย "It's time for the demon spawn to snack." She states as she holds out the bowl to Hayley who only raises an eyebrow.
"I really wish you wouldn't call her that," Hayley admits as she looks up at Rebekah. Grace snapped her eyes wide open as she glanced towards her sister.
"Wait, it's a girl? I'm getting a niece." Grace asks excitedly as she can just see herself taking her little niece on shopping sprees, being there when she has boy troubles. Being the cool aunt while Hayley gets the role of annoying mother.
"I think so, that's what I feel at least," Hayley says with a shrug of her shoulders as Grace leans down to the girl's stomach.
"I'm gonna spoil you, demon spawns," Grace tells her, smiling brightly but she meets Hayley's annoyed eyes. "It's catchy." She admits as she stands back up next to Rebekah.
"I'm sorry, have you picked another name yet?" Rebekah asks as she stares at Hayley who just stays quiet. "Take one. The plantation is lousy with them." She says as she gestures to the bowl. Hayley takes an apple, holding it in her hand as Rebekah places the bowl on the table. "How's your neck?" She asks as she watches the girl take a bite.
"I feel fine. Which is weird. I'm sure this is Sophie-related." Hayley points out that nothing had really happened to her. She would've thought she would feel a lot more pain or something.
"Well, do me a favor and don't die on my watch. I'll never hear the end of it." Rebekah says with a tight smile on her lips. Hayley only chuckles lightly, looking up at Rebekah.
"You know, when I first met you I thought you were a real bitch." Hayley admits making Rebekah raise an eyebrow at her.
"What changed your mind?" She questions curiously, making Hayley only smirk as she shrugs her shoulders.
"Oh, I still think you're a bitch. I've just grown to like that about you." Hayley tells her making the girl let out a laugh as she looks down at her.
"One that's smoking hot." Grace pipes up, feeling Rebekah move her gaze onto her. Rebekah felt her cheeks heat up as Grace moved her eyes down her body.
"You think I'm hot?" Rebekah asks and Grace only shrugs her shoulders, taking a step closer to the girl.
"I might have to see you more up close and personal to be sure." She says as she runs her finger along the girls' collarbones before putting her nail between her teeth. Rebekah stares at her, her stomach getting butterflies before she clears her throat, remembering that Hayley was beside them.
"Well, that's sweet of you to say," Rebekah says as she looks towards Hayley who only smiles at her. "Remember it when I'm gone." She says making both the women look at her confused about what she was talking about.
"Gone? Where are you going?" Hayley asks curiously and Rebekah only takes a deep breath.
"I only came to town to make sure that everything was okay with Elijah. He's fine and he hasn't punished Klaus for daggering him, so, as usual, they'll be thick as thieves and I'll be left to clean up the mess." Rebekah explains to them, tears in her eyes as she bites the inside of her cheek. She didn't like getting emotional around people she hardly knew but she couldn't help it. "It's time for me to fly the coop," Rebekah tells them and Grace only gives a small smile. She knew how Rebekah must feel, having a family that either used you or just pretended to care about you. Sometimes you had to leave in order to save your own sanity.
"Oh." Hayley looks down at her hands before feeling a pain in her stomach making her let out a groan.
"What's wrong?" Rebekah asks as she and Grace immediately rush over to her.
"I don't know. Probably morning sickness?" Hayley suggests as she leans forward, all of a sudden feeling quite hot and nauseous.
"Oh, you're burning up actually," Rebekah says as she feels the woman's forehead. Grace immediately gets worried as she grabs hold of her sister's hand. Hayley meets her eyes, knowing that whatever it was, it wasn't good
HAYLEY WAS MOVING AROUND ON THE BED, she could barely stay still as she felt like her skin was on fire. The heat had moved underneath her skin too and she could feel her insides practically melting. Even though they weren't, it still felt like it to the werewolf. "Stop fussing, will you? Elijah will be here any minute." Rebekah grumbles as she tries to wipe the girl's forehead with a wet cloth. Hayley only groans as she squeezes her eyes shut.
"I feel like I've been microwaved," Hayley states as she lets out a loud sigh.
"Like the time you got stuck in the sauna at the gym and I had to bail your ass out?" Grace asks with a raise of an eyebrow. Hayley just opens her eyes, not very amused and if she wasn't dying of heat exhaustion, she would punch the girl.
"Shut up," Hayley mutters with a roll of her eyes. Grace only smiles as she shakes her head. When Hayley was fifteen, she had snuck into a gym with a boy she liked and they had a genius idea to go into the sauna and get heavy with each other, but instead, they ended up getting stuck and felt a whole different kind of heat. Luckily for them, Grace had followed them as she got a notification from Hayley's phone that it was at the gym at midnight.
"Hey, just because you're carrying a baby, doesn't mean you get to act like one." Rebekah points out making Grace laugh lightly as she looks at the original. "I'm sure my little niece is healing up as we speak." She says as she puts her hand on Hayley's stomach for a moment.
"Yeah, she's a fighter. Just like you." Grace says with a smile as she nudges the girl's shoulder. Hayley smiles back at her, grabbing a hold of her hand and squeezing it.
"What the hell is she doing here?" Rebekah's sweet voice had dropped and now it sounded like wanted to murder someone. Grace turns her head, seeing a woman standing next to Elijah and she can only guess it was the witch linked to Hayley.
"I'm here to help," Sophie says with a sigh but Rebekah only scoffs, glaring harshly at the witch.
"Help? You're the reason we're in this bloody mess. Why aren't we unlinked from this witch already, Elijah?" Rebekah asks as she moves her sharp gaze to her brother who only lets out a breath.
"Rebekah let her do what she can," Elijah replies, not wanting Rebekah to do anything stupid.
"I may know a way to slow the fever down. But I'm gonna need some special herbs. I'll text you a list." Sophie says as she stares at Rebekah and Grace only raises an eyebrow. So this woman really expects to walk in here and use the original as her own personal assistant?
"Fine. Happy to play the fetch girl." Rebekah mutters with a scoff, moving away from the bed. She shoves the rag into Elijah's hands before exiting the room. Grace watches her before carefully walking toward Sophie.
"So, you're the one that threatened my sister's life," Grace says as she stares at the woman in front of her. Sophie furrows her eyebrows for a moment, glancing towards Hayley before her eyes settle back on Grace. Although, she felt uncomfortable under the woman's glare.
"Sister?" Sophie asks, her voice slightly wavering and Grace just nods her head, taking a step closer and she could see that Elijah had become a little bit defensive.
"Yes, sister." Grace sneers at her, her slightly playful attitude washing away and Sophie could see the pure hatred in the woman's eyes. "Do anything to her and I swear to god, I'll make you regret ever finding her." She tells the girl who only nods her head, glancing towards Elijah. But Grace only puts on a smile, bringing her hand up the pat Sophie's shoulder. "I'll go help Rebekah." She says before walking out of the room and going after Rebekah. She sees the original opening the front door but stops when she notices Grace.
"What are you doing?" Rebekah questions as she watches the girl walk over to her.
"Coming with you," Grace says with a raise of an eyebrow. She smirks as she stops in front of Rebekah, tilting her head. "If you're gonna be leaving so soon, I don't want to miss out on a fun adventure." She states making Rebekah shake her head, a bit of humour in her eyes.
"It's hardly fun." Rebekah points out but Grace's smirk only broadens as she bites her bottom lip.
"Well, we can make it fun can't we?" Grace says as she grabs a hold of the girl's waist, bringing her along. Rebekah smiles down at her feet as she walks alongside the girl. The blonde original hesitantly wraps her arm around the girl, letting her hand roam the girl's back.
IT HAD TURNED NIGHT AS REBEKAH AND GRACE SEARCHED THE SHOP FOR THE HERB SOPHIE NEEDED. They had kept up a conversation most of the way there, mainly talking about Grace's life in New York and her job. Rebekah was somehow fascinated by it all. "I'm surprised," Rebekah speaks up as Grace searches through the jars in front of her. But she turns her head at the sound of the originals voice.
"By what?" Grace asks curiously and Rebekah only moves over to where she was since she had finished looking in her section.
"You never once showed an ounce of fear towards any of us." She points out with a shrug of her shoulders, placing one of her hands on her hips. Grace only smiles as she perks up an eyebrow.
"Why would I be scared of you?" Grace asks with humour laced in her tone. She didn't know if it was because she grew up with an abusive dad or because she had seen many horrific images in her line of work, but vampires truly didn't scare Grace. She could care less that they eat and maim people or if they tried to do it to her. Grace knew how to fight when it came down to it.
"Why wouldn't you be? Everyone else is." Rebekah tells her causing a smirk to play on Grace's lips as she bites her bottom one.
"Well, maybe I'm just better than everyone else." She suggests and Rebekah rolls her eyes playfully, laughing at the girl.
"You'd do anything to protect your sister." She states and Grace nods her head, letting out a small sigh as Rebekah goes back to reading the labels in front of her.
"I'd lay my life on the line for her." Grace admits.
"So, you're pretty close," Rebekah says in a joking manner making Grace laugh for a moment. But she gives a kind smile as she nods her head.
"No one knows me better than she does. She knows every move I make before I make it and vice versa." Grace explains to Rebekah as she thinks about Hayley. The two had grown inseparable ever since they met. Even though Hayley was a few years younger, it never put a strain on their bond. And when Hayley was kicked out, it only brought them closer.
"You couldn't have warned her not to sleep with my brother?" Rebekah asks with a groan as it wasn't like she didn't like the girl, but out of all of her brothers, it had to be Klaus.
"Trust me, Hayley isn't an active listener," Grace says with a smirk playing on her lips. She didn't know how many times she had told Hayley not to do something and the girl just goes ahead and does it anyway.
"Nik seems not too impressed by you." The original points out and this brings Grace's mood down as she really didn't want to speak about the psycho.
"Well, I'd say the same about him." Grace retorts before her eyes move to Rebekah, placing her hand on the woman's lower back as she is bent down looking for the herb. "You, on the other hand." She flirts and when Rebekah looks back at her, she can see the suggestive look in her eyes.
"Isn't this Katie's shop?" A new voice interrupts them making the two of them turn around to see a man walking towards them. Grace knew Rebekah must have known him because she wasn't getting on the defense. "She leaves you the keys in her will, or maybe it's just help yourself Tuesday?" Marcel asks but Rebekah only rolls her eyes before turning back around and continuing her search. "What are you doing here?" He questions more sharply this time as he crosses his arms against his chest.
"You know, I read that if you mix mugwort with sage, you've got quite the vampire repellent. Wards off even the most resilient pest." Rebekah explains to him, not even looking at the man as she spoke. Grace just flickered her eyes between them. "Why are you here?" She asks as she sighs, running a hand through her hair as she is desperate to just find what they were looking for and leave.
"Just keeping my city safe from thieves and vandals but every time I turn around I catch an original with their hand in a cookie jar," Marcel tells her making Grace snort as she didn't know exactly what that was in reference to.
"Well, for the record, your cookies are the last thing on my mind," Rebekah tells him, glancing back at Marcel for a moment. Grace just raises an eyebrow, obviously understanding the underlying message in their words.
"Who are you?" Marcel asks and his eyes are suddenly on Grace, his hand on her arm. The woman only turns her head to him, glancing down at his hand before meeting his eyes.
"Someone who's gonna snap that hand of yours if you don't take it off of me." Grace threatens as she squints her eyes but has a sweet smile on her face. Marcel chuckles lightly but removes his hand.
"You're a feisty one," Marcel says and Grace only rolls her eyes at the man. Why did every man feel the need to call her feisty when all she does is stand up for herself? "I'm Marcel, I'm the king of New Orleans." He tells the woman who only stares back at him, a blunt expression on her face as she really couldn't care less who or what he was.
"Really? Is that like on your driver's license?" Grace asks as she tilts her head at the man. He seemed a little too cocky for his own good. But he was just as they had described the man as.
"You're funny," Marcel says with a clenched jaw before his eyes move back to the original. "I can see that you don't want to talk to me, Rebekah. Though I can think of a time when things were different." He states as he moves next to her. Rebekah only sighs as she keeps her eyes searching.
"Maybe once. Not anymore." She tells him and Marcel's demeanor drops just a slight bit. "Camphor. Found it." Rebekah says, grabbing a hold of the jar before dragging Grace out of the store and away from Marcel. Once they were walking down the street, Grace let her curiosity get the best of her.
"So.." Grace starts as her eyes move over to Rebekah who only furrows her eyebrows.
"What?" The original replies, a little bit confused as Grace only shrugs her shoulders, pressing her lips together.
"You're not gonna explain the drama between you two?" She asks as she raises an eyebrow, looking at the blonde who only bites the inside of her cheek.
"No drama," Rebekah says, a little too quickly to be believable. Grace only raises an eyebrow as she places a hand on her hip.
"Mhm." She mutters as she squints her eyes at the original. Marcel had mentioned very briefly about his cookie car so she could put two and two together. "Was he your boyfriend?" Grace questions making Rebekah sigh as she just keeps her eyes forward.
"Something like that." She retorts as she rubs her hands on her sleeve.
"Well, you deserve much better than that cocky dickhead."
"Hm." She smiles lightly but it drops as Rebekah just looks down at the ground as they walk side by side. "You don't have to be so nice to me just because we share a niece," Rebekah tells her as most people either were nice to her because they wanted something, or they felt like they had to because she was an original. Grace only shakes her head, rolling her eyes playfully.
"Maybe, I like being nice to you." She says as she puts her hand on Rebekah's waist. The original stared down at her, her eyes flickering between the woman's eyes and her lips. Rebekah doesn't think twice before smashing their lips together. Grace was a little taken aback by the confidence but she wasn't surprised. She kisses the woman back just as roughly. Rebekah grabs a hold of her, speeding her against the wall making Grace gasp, allowing Rebekah to push her tongue into her mouth. After a few seconds, with Rebekah's hands feeling up her body, Grace pulls away from the girl, her breathing heavy. "As much as I would love to continue, we need to help my sister," Grace says as she licks her bottom lip, meeting Rebekah's eyes when they finally open.
"Right." Rebekah breathes out as she nods her head. She pulls back from Grace, wiping her lips. Grace just has a smug look on her face as she lifts herself off of the wall. She moves to Rebekah's ear, a light chuckle leaving her.
"But, we can definitely pick it up later." She says with a smirk on her lips, sending a wink to the original before heading off in the direction they came from. Grace only had one meaningful relationship in her life, a man named Dylan Thornhill. He was the first man that Grace let past the flirting stage which was rarely crossed by men. But that's a story for a different time. Now, it was all fun and games for Grace. She had a job that kept her quite busy so she didn't care to look for a relationship that would just end in heartbreak again. Rebekah only smiles, shaking her head before following after the lawyer.
GRACE WAS STOOD BY THE POOL, standing next to her sister who was held up by Elijah. She was getting weaker by the second and Sophie still hadn't finished whatever thing she was making with the herbs she and Rebekah had gotten. "She's burning up. We need to do this now." Elijah tells them as he feels Hayley's skin burn. Sophie nods her head, trying to finish the last of the potion she was making.
"Get her in the water," Sophie tells Elijah who nods his head. Elijah picks the girl up before getting into the pool, letting the cold water envelop them.
"I don't see how a midnight swim is supposed to help," Rebekah says with a clenched jaw as she watches her brother and Hayley closely.
"Her temperature is sky high, and the water with the help of the herbs, should cool us down," Sophie explains to her as she gets into the pool, making her way to the pair. Grace had her hands clasped together, her eyes shut for a moment. She never prayed. Not once since she left her family. Because Grace realized that prayers never worked, they were never answered for her. She was just hoping that this one time would be an exception. "Drink this." Sophie brings the cup to Hayley's lips, letting the liquid pour down her throat. "You're gonna have to get her heart rate down." She says as she looks towards the original.
"And how do you suggest I do that?" Elijah asks with a sigh as he really doesn't understand what Sophie is asking her to do.
"Hold her. It's a natural human remedy to slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure." Sophie tells the man who pulls Hayley as close as he can. Grace was fiddling with her fingers, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet. Rebekah notices this, grabbing a hold of one of Grace's hands and giving it a tight squeeze.
"This is never gonna work." Rebekah says with a shake of her head. They needed to unlink them now or else it might be too late.
"Davina will break that link. We just need time." Elijah responds to his sister who only lets out a sigh, putting her free hand on Grace's shoulder.
"Hayley, just listen to my voice okay?" Grace says softly, trying to keep it calm because she doesn't want to add to what Hayley is already feeling. "You're gonna be fine." She tells her and Hayley weakly nods her head that was on Elijah's chest. "Look at me," Grace says and Hayley weakly turns her head, meeting her sister's eyes. "You're gonna be just fine. Take a long deep breath." She instructs and Hayley closes her eyes, letting a deep breath in before releasing the air. Sophie looks up for a moment, gasping lightly as Hayley lets out a long groan.
"I just felt it lift," Sophie tells them as she quickly takes a pin, pricking her palm with it. Elijah sets Hayley back into the water before taking her hand and opening it, not seeing any blood. The link was broken, Davina had done it. Grace almost felt her knees buckle in relief but she kept herself upright as Hayley made her way out of the pool. Grace immediately envelopes her in a tight hug.
"I'm okay, Grace," Hayley promised as she held onto her sister. Grace couldn't stop the tear that left her eye as she kept her sister close. She had come here to help, to protect her sister and she almost failed at it. If Hayley had died or even lost her child, Grace would never be able to live with herself.
She didn't think she could live in a world where Hayley no longer existed.
