GRACE WAS TRYING TO DO SOME CASE WORK AT HER DESK, but she couldn't get anything done with the amount of screaming coming from the other room. For context, Klaus had kidnapped a witch and is torturing them to get information on where Elijah might be. How ironic, isn't it? Letting out a groan of frustration, grace stands up from the chair, making her way out of the room. She storms over to where Klaus was, pulling up the door.
Klaus stood in front of her, washing his hands in a bowl of water. He meets her eyes, a curious expression on his face as if he was not just brutally maiming someone. "I can never have any peace and quiet in this house can I?" She asks him as she crosses her arms against her chest. Klaus raises an eyebrow at her, smiling gently.
"Did I disturb you, love?" Klaus questions as he continues to wash the blood off of his hands. Grace only squints her eyes at the man, shaking her head. Clenching her jaw, she just let's out a scoff.
"I can't make any sense of it." Grace admits as she leans against the doorframe.
"Of what?"
"I put away monsters like you and yet, I sleep with you and ask you on a date." Grace tells him, she was a hypocrite, if she did say so herself. Klaus chuckles lightly as he shrugs his shoulders.
"Well, Im infinitly more charming than those 'monsters'." Klaus retorts with a smirk on his lips. Grace scrunched her face up as she tilts her head slightly.
"Mm, definitely not it."ย She denied teasingly and Klaus just gives her a playful glare.
"Thank you, love. For that boast of confidence." He tells her as he looks back down at the water. Grace hears footsteps behind her so she turns her head, seeing Hayley walking over to her.
"Ah, I see your interrogation went well." Hayley states as she stops next to grace, placing a hand on her hip.
"Turns out, these witches are delicate creatures." Klaus says with a smirk and Hayley only rolls her eyes. "No matter. As suspected, my mother has Elijah captive." He states as he grabs the towel from beside him, wiping his hands.
"Great. Let's go find them." Hayley replies but Klaus stops her.
"Not possible. Esther is too powerful, she will not easily be found." Klaus explains to her as he drops the towel. "I need to draw her out." He says as he places his hands on the sliding doors. As he begins to close them, Hayley grabs them.
"Wait, where are you going?" Hayley questions, a confused expression on her face.
"I'm going to change my shirt." Klaus states as he raises an eyebrow at the werewolf. "And then I'm gonna find my brother." He adds,ย starting to close the doors again.
"Klaus." He sighs as he looks at Hayley. "Let me come with you." Hayley pleads but Klaus simply rolls his eyes.
"I know you want to help Hayley, but you can't. My mother is wretched. She will targetย you just to thwart me. Now, I can't save Elijah if I'm too busy saving you, can I?" Klaus retorts before closing the doors in her face.
"He's not wrong." Grace points out as it would be better for Klaus to just do it by himself. Hayley snaps her head towards the girl.
"Don't side with him, side with me."ย Hayley whines as she crossed her arms.
"And what side are you?" Grace asks as she didn't really know what Hayley was up to.
"We rescue Oliver. Then we can figure out where Elijah is." Hayley states, almost to herself as she turns away and heads out of the room. Grace was a little confused, since she didn't even know what the plan was.
"Thank you for telling me the plan." She calls out after the woman who was already long gone. Grace just thumbs up the empty room before walking back down the hallway to continue her work.

AS GRACE MOVES DOWN THE STAIRS TO WALK INTO THE MAIN PART OF THE COMPOUND, she notices that Paul was standing near the entrance. Her eyebrows furrow as she makes her way over to him. "Paul?" She asks as she puts her arms over her chest since it was a little cold. Paul turns his gaze to her, a small smile on his lips but she could tell something was wrong.
"Hey." He replied as he puts his hands inside of his pockets. As grace stops in front of him, she gives him a curious look.
"What are you doing here?" Grace questions as she tilts her head. Paul looks around the courtyard, a sigh leaving his lips.
"I was hoping Hanna would be here." Paul admits and grace was a little bit taken aback since she hadn't heard from the girl.
"I'm sorry, she's not." Grace denies as she bites the inside of her cheek. "Is something wrong?" Paul nods his head as he looks at the woman.
"She left in the middle of the night and I just thought she would come here." He explains to her and her eyes widen slightly.
"Why'd she leave?" Grace asks with furrowed eyebrows as she did understand but it wasn't like her to not at least tell her father where she was going.
"Anne and I had a fight.. Hanna overheard us." Paul tells her and grace sighs as she glances down towards the ground. It wasn't like Anne didn't have it coming, acting the way she did. "If I had known the woman I married..." He trails off, shaking his head.
"She's good at decieving people." Grace states as she frowns lightly. She did feel bad for him since he clearly didn't realize the type of person Anne was when they met.
"What your father said he did to you, that was true?" Paul asks with slight hesitation, grace knew he was just asking to be curious.
"My father admitted it?" Grace asks with a scoff as she raises her eyebrows. "Wow, he really is a psychopath." She muttered as she shakes her head. She knew her father was never sorry for what he did to her, but he had never willingly admitted it to someone other than her before.
"Do you have any idea where Hanna may be?" He questions and Grace thinks to herself for a moment.
"Rousseau's. It's a bar but I gave Hanna Cami's number just incase she couldn't reach me." Grace tells him, Hanna hadn't really met Cami but she knew she could trust the woman to look after Hanna. She would've put Hayley's number but she's more involved in the supernatural world than Camille is.
"Thank you." Paul says before going to turn but grace stops him before he can.
"You should leave her." Grace suggests, she knew what it was like to live in such a toxic environment. No matter what, it was always better, if you can, to get out while you can. "Move somewhere else." She tells him and Paul nods slightly but she could tell he was doubting it.
"Would that really change anything?" Paul asks with a sigh as he didn't know if it would be the best thing to do.
"It changed me." She admits with a shrug, although she still was held back by things from her past, she was genuinely better the moment she left home.
"I'll think about it." Paul replies with a tight smile before waving at her.ย "Thanks again." He states and she nods before watching the man leave the compound. Grace sighs as she pulls out her phone, deciding to send a text to Camille.
Hey, Cami. Is Hanna at the bar by chance?
"I'm heading out, love." Klaus says as he moves through the courtyard. He stops, looking over at the woman who's eyes were glued to her phone. "Love?" He tries again and he catches her attention this time.
"Hm?" Grace glances up from her phone, meeting the eyes of the hybrid.
"Everything alright?" He questions as he moves towards her but she only gives him a small smile while nodding her head.
"Yeah, nothing you have to worry about." Grace assures him, he didn't need to be concerned about anything else right now when Elijah was being held captive.
"Are you sure?" Klaus asks, genuinely worrying that something happened. Graces phone chimes and she looks down to see that Camille had responded to her.
Yeah, she's here. Want me to send her to you?
"Yeah, Cami just texted." She tells him as she holds her phone up. Klaus was a little reluctant but knew to not push it.
"Okay." Klaus says as he nods his head, deciding to let it go. "Well, I should have Elijah back soon so I shall see you for our date this evening." He tells her, turning around to head for the exit. Grace was taken aback for a moment before a smile forms on her lips.
"Oh, will I?" Grace calls out after him and Klaus only gives her one last smirk before disappearing. The woman laughs as she shakes her head, bringing her hand up to move her hair out of her face.
Her eyes move back down to her phone, texting Camille to tell Hanna to come over. Grace knew Hanna was just as much of a victim as her. Sure, Hanna never had the physical aspect of abuse but she was sure Anne was not being pleasent. Grace just wanted Hanna out of that environment.
Because she would be damned if she let what happened to her, happen to Hanna.
GRACE WATCHED AS HANNA ENTERED THE COMPOUND, she wasn't mad that the girl decided to leave her home but she couldve done it without worrying her dad. She lets out a sigh as she walks over to the girl. Grace had texted Paul to tell him that Hanna was headed to the compound so he wasnt still looking for her. "Why'd you leave without telling your dad where you were?" Grace asks her calmly, softly gazing at the younger girl. Hanna shrugs her shoulders, staring down at the ground.
"I didn't want to be in that house any longer." Hanna admits as she sniffles, wrapping her arms around herself. Grace bites her cheek as she tilts her head.
"Did she hurt you?" Grace questions, she needed to know if Ann had taken it to a whole nother level, because if she did, grace would surely kill her. Hanna shakes her head which made grace let out a breath of relief. "Your dad got a hotel room for the night." She tells the girl who nods slightly.
"I know." She replies and grace sighs as she could see how closed off the girl was starting to become.
"Why don't you stay with me tonight, okay?" Grace suggests as she could tell that Hanna just needed someone to be there for her. Her dad had too much on his plate with having to deal with Ann.
"She's not human." Hanna states, her voice shaking and grace just furrows her eyebrows.
"Who?"
"Anne." Hanna says and Grace could only stare at the girl with sympathy in her eyes and a little bit of guilt. "She's a monster." She tells her and grace knew she didn't need to be told that.
"Come here, hun." Grace says as she pulls the girl into a hug. She holds the girl tightly as Hanna grips onto her. "I'm sorry you got dragged into this." She admits as she strokes the girls hair. "Both you and your dad don't deserve to be treated this way." She tells Hanna who sniffles, tightening her grip on Grace.
"Neither did you." Hanna retorts and grace simply sighs, frowning. Pulling away from the younger girl, grace puts her hands on either side of Hanna's face.
"I promise you. I will not allow any harm to come to you or your dad." Grace assures her, she knew they were innocent in all of this. She did feel bad for how she originally treated Hanna but honestly, that was before she got to know the girl and saw she never knew the horrors of Anne.
"Thank you." Hanna replies as she tries to put a smile on her face. Grace rubs her shoulders.
"You wanna know what Hayley and I do when we are feeling a little down?" She asks, raising an eyebrow at Hanna who looks at her curiously.
"What?"
"A movie marathon with all the sweets you can eat." Grace tells her as she offers a kind smile. "That sound good?" She asks and Hanna nods her head.
"Yeah." She replies with a smile and with that, grace wraps her arm around the girls shoulder.
"Come on." Grace pulls her into the compound, feeling Hanna lay her head on her shoulder. She rubs the girls are before she hears her phone chime. Bringing it out, she reads the message, her breath hitching in her throat. Biting the inside of her cheek, she just has to put her phone away and focus on Hanna. The younger girl glances at her but grace just puts on a smile. She didn't need Hanna worrying about anything right now.
You will never know happiness. And you do not deserve it. You call me a monster? Have you looked in the mirror recently. Especially after you murdered that innocent boy. You may forget, but I won't let you.
GRACE PLACES THE BLANKET OVER HANNA WHO WAS ASLEEP IN ONE OF THE EMPTY BEDROOMS. She lets out a sigh as she gazed down at the young girl. She reminded grace a lot of when she was younger. More innocent, but nonetheless. Grace felt a little guilty for what Hanna had to go through. If grace had just suffered the abuse of her father, her parents would have never split and Ann wouldn't have infiltrated Hanna's life. But of course, she couldn't think like that. She could only think in the present and make a plan to deal with the situation.
"Is she all right?" She heard a voice ask. Grace turns her head to see Klaus at the door. Grace nods her head, a small frown on her lips.
"Yeah, just tired." Grace tells him as she walks softly over to him, keeping her voice quiet as to not wake Hanna. "She ran away from home." She states and Klaus just stared at her curiously. "Apparently it's getting worse there because of Ann." Grace glances back at Hanna for a second before meeting Klaus' gaze.
"She's strong, she'll get through it." Klaus admits as he crossed his arms against his chest.
"I thought you would say she's annoying again." Grace admits with a small smile, chuckling lightly. Klaus smiles back at her.
"She is when she doesn't butt out of my personal life." Klaus jokes and grace glances down at the ground.
"Robert messaged me." She tells him and Klaus furrows his eyebrows. grace takes out her phone in order to show him the text she had received.
"Subtle." Klaus says with sarcasm laced in his tone. Grace nods her head as she puts her phone away. "How does he know about Dylan?" He asks curiously and grace sighs, shrugging her shoulders.
"No clue." Grace replies as she runs a hand through her hair. "But if I see him again.." She trails off, shaking her head. Her dad was seriously getting on her nerves, was it that hard to just leave her alone? Of course it was because he was a narcissist and a psychopath. "Did you find Elijah?" Grace asks him, deciding to change the subject.
"Yeah, I did." Klaus replies and grace was grateful that Elijah was found.
"Is he okay?" She questions and Klaus grimaces, tilting his head back and forth.
"Relatively." He says and Grace just slowly nods her head.ย "I also saw my father." Klaus admits and graces eyes widen.
"Mikael?"
"No, my biological father." Klaus corrects her and Grace only stared at him for a moment.
"Oh." Grace mutters, squinting her eyes before she got a confused expression on her face. "Wait, what?" She didn't quite understand what the man meant.
"My mother brought him back to life in attempt to coerce me to take her offer." Klaus tells her and grace honestly wasn't surprised anymore. It seemed like everyone was being brought back to life.
"Her offer?" Grace questions and Klaus only sighs as he leans himself up against the doorframe.
"To be reborn a witch. To give up my power as an original hybrid." Klaus explains to her and grace only raises her eyebrows. That was a very interesting move on Esther's part.
"Guessing you said no." She teases him with a smirk and Klaus smiles, nodding his head. "That's one thing we have in common. Both our parents are ginormous nutbags." Grace states as she lets out a sigh, crossing her arms against her chest. "I guess we have a raincheck on date night?" She states, catching Klaus's eye.
"It's not too late, love. We can do whatever you want." Klaus retorts as he gazes at her. Grace steps closer to him, tilting her head as she thinks to herself for a moment. Leaning in, she presses a soft kiss to his lips. Klaus kisses her back before she pulls away from him.
"You buy me pizza and I'll be a happy woman." Grace admits with a soft smile and Klaus raises an eyebrow at the girl, not expecting that answer.
"You're a classy date." Klaus teases her and grace squints her eyes a little bit.
"Oh, most definitely." Grace says with a smirk playing on her lips. Klaus only chuckles, shaking his head.
KLAUS PLACES THE BOX OF PIZZA ON THE TABLE IN FRONT OF GRACE WHO WAS SAT ON THE COUCH. She lets out a gasp as she places her hand on her heart.
"
Why, thank you." She says before opening the box in order to grab a slice. Klaus sits down next to her, shaking his head with a smile on his face as he watches her take a bite.
"This isnt really what I had in mind for a date but as long as I'm with you, I don't really mind." Klaus explains to her and she just looks over at him.
"Neither of us do many dates so we can't really classify what's a good date and a bad one." Grace points out as she shrugs her shoulders. She much preferred staying in though as opposed to going out.
"Who says I don't go on dates?" Klaus asks, acting offended but she only squints her eyes, giving him a blunt expression. "Okay, you're right." He states and she only laughs a little bit before settling back against the couch.
"This is way better than a fancy date though." Grace admits as she couldn't ever be bothered to look nice in a fancy dress and do her hair unless she had to where something official for work or Jenna forced her. "I once went on a double date with Jenna and Mark, worst day of my entire life." She states with a groan as she rolls her eyes just thinking about it. Klaus raises an eyebrow as he grabs a slice. "Not only was it right after a brutal case, the woman she set me up with was so annoying!" Klaus chuckles as he shakes his head.
"Maybe she thought the same thing about you." Klaus teases and grace scoffs as she scrunched her nose up.
"No, she was like, on a scale from one to ten, a billion." Grace tells him and klaus just gives her an amused look. "She only talked about herself and her vegan lifestyle. Her laugh is so high pitched that I swear my ears bled. She literally could not stop ranting on about her fucking ex and what she would do on their dates. It came to a point where I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a fork." She explains to him, the annoyance evident in her voice.
"So, no second date for her." Klaus says with a smirk, knowing that grace either slapped the girl or simply ignored her after that.
"She didn't even get to finish that one. I walked out." Grace states and Klaus just gazes at her.
"Wow, you have no manners." He teases her and grace shrugs her shoulders.
"Oh, I have them. She just didn't deserve them." Grace admits and Klaus just smiles, chuckling to himself. "What about you? Any tragic dating stories?" She asks as she nudges him, wiggling her eyebrows at him. Klaus shakes his head at her.
"Never really had much time to date, love." Klaus admits as he shrugs his shoulders, but he also didn't care enough to go on many dates.
"Never had the time or just didn't like anyone?" Grace asks as she raises an eyebrow at him.
"Both." Grace laughs as she shakes her head before placing the last bit of pizza in her mouth.
"So, what is it about me that you seem so infatuated with?"ย She questions when she finishes chewing. Klaus smiles at her, raising an eyebrow.
"Putting yourself on a high enough pedestal, love?" Klaus says and she smirks at the man.
"Oh, please. We both know you fell for me first." Grace retorts and Klaus bites the inside of his cheek as he stares at her. He couldn't really deny it, he was smitten by her the first second he met her.
"Your confidence." Klaus starts and she only squints her eyes at him. "Usually, women who try and make me inferior to them, end up with their head on a pike." Klaus tells her and grace raises an eyebrow at him, it wasn't exactly the direction she thought he would take this in. "But since I couldn't do that with you since you're Hayley's sister, I had to live with it." He teases but she could tell that he was slightly serious. She knew that if she wasn't Hayley's sister, he would of most likely killed her by now. "It kind of grew on me how you never let anyone walk all over you, you state your opinions no matter the person and you dont let anyone disrespect the people you love. Unless you do it yourself." Klaus tells her and she just stared at him, paying attention to every word he was saying about her.ย "Your snarkiness. Although most of it is directed towards me.. I do respect how you have never once showed me fear and instead have made jokes at my expense." He points out and she laughs slightly, smirking to herself. "You're intelligent, you're cunning, fierce, although you put on strong front, you would put your life on the line for Hayley." Grace couldn't help but smile gently, fiddling with her fingers. "And that's just the tip of the iceberg, love." He tells her as he tilts his head at the woman, observing her. "Oh, and obviously your beauty." Klaus finishes as he gazes at her, lifting his hand to brush her hair out of her face. Grace presses her lips together, glancing down.
"The beauty thing, I don't get. But-"
"What is there not to get, love?" Klaus asks in a confused tone as he furrows his eyebrows.
"My body isn't exactly beautiful." Grace points out with a shrug of her shoulders. Klaus didn't understand why she thought that because he thought the opposite.
"Of course it is." He tells her and grace just rolls her eyes playfully at him.
"You say that because you have to." She states and Klaus sighs as he didn't like how she was talking about herself.
"Those scars don't make you hideous, love."
"To me, they do."
"Then you're not as smart as you are perceived to be." Klaus says, he was slightly joking but he wasn't going to just allow her to say this stuff when none of it was true.
"Excuse me?" Grace raises an eyebrow at him.
"I'm just stating a fact, nothing wrong with that." Klaus says as he shrugs his shoulders and she just squints her eyes at him.
"Fine." She says with a sigh, deciding to let him win. Grace crosses her arms against her chest. "Don't expect me to list off things I like about you because it would be empty." Grace retorts with a teasing tone and Klaus only smiles at her.
"Evidently." Klaus replies before noticing how she was staring at her hands. "What is it, love?" He asks curiously as he tries to lift her chin with his finger but she only lets out a sigh.
"The sweetest person ever to me, but to everyone else, you're the devil. You use a lot of violence when you get angry-" Grace starts and Klaus cuts her off, not understanding where she was going.
"I'm not quite following." Klaus tells her.
"Dylan was sweet." Grace states as she meets his eyes and she could see the way he softened but also was a bit hurt by her statement. "The sweetest guy I had ever met. He would take me out on dates, buy me nice things, tell me he loved me. But that was all a front."ย She explains to the man who furows his eyebrows. Klaus felt slight anger fill him but it was mainly shock.
"Are you comparing me to him?" Klaus asks, trying to keep his voice calm.
"Can you blame me?" She asks with a shrug, they did have similar characteristics.
"I am nothing like the man who hurt you. I would never do that. Do you really believe that I would lay a hand on you?" Klaus asks, his voice slightly wavering as he didn't want her to be afraid of him. He knew he could be violent at times but that was mainly towards his enemies, or the siblings that annoyed him.
"You have before." Grace points out and Klaus stops himself for a second. He closes his eyes, knowing she was referring to the incident in the cemetery.
"Love, I promise-"
"Promises can be broken." Grace states, not letting her put her trust in something that most people don't keep. "This was a mistake." She mutters as she stands up from the couch, brushing her hand behind her ears.
"Don't just walk away." Klaus tells her as he stands up after her but she only looks away from him. "Look, I know of your past, you felt safe enough to tell me about it. Things you wouldn't even tell Hayley. And I know there are resemblances and I know I've hurt you in the past and I do deeply apologize for that. That was only because Elijah was infuriating me." He explains to her with a sigh as he knew there wasn't any amount of apologizing he could do to take that moment back. "I would never do anything like that again, I would never intentionally hurt you. Not every man you let into your life is a bad guy who you can't trust." He says and she clenches her jaw slightly.
"Really, Nik? What are you?" Grace asks with a scoff as she turns back to him.
"I'm a person who is there when you need-"
"I don't need you!" Grace shouts at him, a tear escaping her eye. Klaus sighs as he takes a deep breath, knowing she was just angry and confused.
"I know you don't need me. But I'll be there for you anyways." Klaus retorts as he didnt care if she wanted to push him away, he was not going away easily. "Love, I swear to you on my life. I would never let anyone, or anything hurt you." He assures her as he grabs her hand gently but she retracts it from him. "I've never felt that way about anyone." He admits, almost to himself.
"I know." Grace admits, feeling herself become a little bit defeated. "God, I do know that, Nik!" Her voice was a little bit frustrated as she brings her hands up to her head. "I know that you would never hurt me and it's that exact reason why i-i feel myself pushing you away!" She explains to him, shaking her head. Klaus frowns, his gaze soft as he takes a step towards the woman.
"What your father said isn't true. You deserve happiness." Klaus tells her and grace just rubs her eye, wiping away her tears.
"Do I?"
"If you don't deserve happiness, then no one else does either." Klaus says as he takes another step towards her. "No one on this planet is perfect, love. No one. You can't let what happened in the past, what someone said to you, dictate how you live your life." He explains to her and she furrows her eyebrows, slight amusement showing in her eyes.
"You know how ironic that is coming from you, right?" She asks as she sniffles and Klaus thinks about it for a moment before chuckling lightly.
"Just... Let yourself be happy. Even if it's just a sliver." Klaus pleads but she bites her bottom lip, closing her eyes.
"It's not just that."
"Give me one reason right now, why you can't give me a chance." Klaus says, wanting to hear at least one valid reason why she won't just let herself be open to him. Grace sits back down on the couch, her eyes on the floor.
"You're immortal." Grace states as she glances up at him. Klaus closes his eyes for a moment before sitting down next to her.
"Love-"
"It's true, Nik." He couldn't deny it, there was a major difference between their lives. "You're immortal and I'm not and I never wanna be. You know this." Grace states, she has told him that she didn't want to become a vampire. "I'm gonna grow old and die and you're still gonna be you. Look me in the eye and tell me, you'd be okay with that." Grace says as she stares at the man next to her. Klaus only tilts his head, softly gazing at her.
"I came into this date already knowing you never wanted to be a vampire, love." He points out as it wasn't something that he just let slip from his mind. "I don't care about that. I only care about you and if we have limited time, so be it. We'll make the best of it." Klaus explains to her and she moves her mouth to the side, fiddling with her fingers.
"You'd really still want to be with me when I'm old and wrinkly?" Grace asks him, a little bit insecure but he only chuckles lightly.
"Especially then." Klaus assures her as he puts his hand on top of hers. Grace smiles softly, sniffling. "I might put you out of your own misery though."ย He admits and this causes her to let out a loud laugh as she brightly smiles at him. Klaus smiles back at her, rubbing her hand with his thumb.
"And you say you hate humans." Grace points out and Klaus squints his eyes.
"All of them but one." He corrects her and grace pouts at him.
"Hey, Cami's awesome." Grace defends as she squints her eyes at the man. Klaus rolls his eyes playfully at the blonde.
"All but two."
"Also, hanna-"
"Love, you're ruining the moment." Klaus tells her and she giggles as she rests her head against her hand. Klaus gazes at her, reaching over to stroke her cheek with his thumb. "I don't care if you don't want to live forever. Just as long as you want to spend your human days with me." He admits as he tilts his head. Grace nods her head, her eyes drifting to her hands.
"If somehow I die and for some reason I have vampire blood in my system.. and -" Grace is cut off by Klaus who only grabs her hand, giving it a squeeze.
"I'll let you go out on your own terms. I would never force you to become what you don't want to be." Klaus assures her as he gives her a sincere look. Grace smiles gently at him before moving forward and wrapping her arms around his neck.
Klaus pulls her close, allowing her to rest herself against his chest. He rests his arms around her, settling back against the couch. The two lay in a comfortable silence, simply enjoying the company of each other.
