GRACE AND KLAUS WALK DOWN THE STREET TOGETHER AFTER THEY EXITED THE YOGURT SHOP. She kept glancing over to him, or more specifically his bowl. Klaus caught on after a few seconds, only slowly turning his head to look at her. He raises an eyebrow, wondering what she was doing. Grace only looks at him before moving her eyes back down to his bowl.
"I didn't know you were so basic." Grace finally says as she walks beside him. Klaus looks a little confused as he tilts his head.
"What do you mean, love?" Klaus questions as he brings a scoop of his yogurt to his mouth. Grace only places her free hand on her hip, moving her eyes back to his bowl and gesturing towards it.
"Chocolate?" She asks and Klaus just glanced at his bowl, not seeing anything wrong with it.
"It's a staple." He replies and she only shakes her head, not looking impressed.
"It's good but peanut butter and coffee is the best combination." Grace tells him as she swirls her yogurt around. Klaus only glanced into her bowl, not really believing it at all.
"Is it now?" Klaus asks as he raises an eyebrow at her. Grace only nods as she scoops a mouthful in.
"Mhm." She mumbles as she swallows it. Klaus only shakes his head with a smile. Grace grabs another scoop before lifting it up to his lips. Klaus glances at her warily before opening his mouth. She puts the spoon in and Klaus eats the yogurt off of it as she slides it out. There was an instant look of disgust on Klaus' face as his tongue took in the flavours. "Oh, come on. It's good." Grace scolds as she knew it was good, at least to her it was good. Klaus on the other hand, didn't seem to think so as he reluctantly swallows it.
"I like peanut butter and I like coffee, but they do not go together." Klaus says as he shakes his head, trying to rid his mouth of the horrible taste. Grace only rolls her eyes playfully.
"You just have no taste." Grace tells him and Klaus only nods his head, a fake enthusiastic expression on his face.
"I'm sure that's it." He answers with sarcasm as he sticks to his chocolate flavour. Grace smiles as she looks at the original.
"You know, you're a lot better when you're having fun." She points out as this is the first time that she's actually seen him let loose.
"Who says I'm having fun?" Klaus retorts with a playful look on his face. Grace only laughs as she presses her lips together.
"Please, dont act like you don't love hanging out with me." Grace teases him as she smirks at the man. Klaus rolls his eyes but smiles lightly. Grace puts a spoonful in her mouth, swallowing it before nudging his arm. "Can I ask you something?" She asks as she watches the man only dig his spoon into the yogurt.
"Of course, love." He answers as he feels her nudge him again. Klaus glanced over, seeing that she had just bumped into his side. Grace takes a deep breath, tapping her finger along the bowl in her hand.
"What did Elijah mean when he said that you talk about me?" She questions and Klaus tenses for a moment. This was just adding to the fuel of his anger towards his brother because why would be bring something like that up. It was basically trying to out his feelings towards the girl.
"Your name just comes up, that's all." Klaus says with a shrug as he tries to just answer quickly. Grace nods, seemingly believing him before a smirk forms on her lips.
"Im sure it's all good things that you say about me." She teases as she knew how she acted around Klaus, she definitely did not believe that she was his favourite. Well, maybe right now she was since he seemed to hate everyone else.
"On top of all the annoying things." He taunts her as she bumps into him again. Grace gasps, placing her hand on her chest as she acted offended.
"What do I do that is annoying?" Grace questions as she looks at him expectantly, with a fake expression of sadness. Klaus only glanced at her arm that hit him her again.
"For one, not being able to walk in a straight line. You keep bumping into me, love." Klaus points out as he had a small frustrated tone in his voice. Grace raises her eyebrows at him, only edging closer to the original.
"Oh, I'm bumping into you?" She asks as she pushes him lightly making him glare playfully at her. "Am I?" Grace pushes him again with a wide smile on her face. Klaus only nudges her back before the pair laugh and continue to walk.
"So, who's this stepsister that you mentioned?" Klaus asks as he looks over at Grace. She only sighs, biting the inside of her lip as she glanced at the ground.
"Her name's Hanna. She's fifteen." She says as she plays with her spoon. "Apparently my mom married her dad a few years ago." Grace states and Klaus only frowns lightly as he knew that had to hurt the girl. Not that her mom got away from her father, Grace understood that part, but that she got a new family. "She said my mom was a good person." She scoffs as she glares at nothing in particular. Klaus nods his head but it wasn't that unusual for Hanna to have a different opinion about Ann.
"Not everyone sees someone the say way you do, love." Klaus points out and she only looks at him, furrowing her eyebrows. "I mean, take me for example. Most people see me as a psychopathic maniac and yet here you are buying my frozen yogurt." He states as he gestures to the bowl. Grace only lets out a laugh as she shakes her head.
"Hey, I think you're a psychopathic maniac. I have just learned to accept that part of you." Grace retorts with a smirk lingering on her lips. Klaus rolls his eyes as he puts a spoonful in his mouth. "And I bought it because you wanted to compel the lady." She scolds as she squints her eyes at him. Grace wasn't one to steal, well, now she wasnt. She stole a lot when she was younger but that was a different story.
"Because it's easier." Klaus admits as he shrugs his shoulders and she only scoffs, playfully rolling her eyes. Just because he had this little trick, didn't mean he got to use it for the simplest things.
"Paying ten dollars is not hard." Grace states as she continues to mix the two flavours together. "Plus, I wanted to treat you. Since you did get a blade in your chest." She adds as she puts her finger on the man's chest. Klaus looks at her finger before seeing the disgusted look on her face. "Did it actually go inside of you?" She asks, grimacing as she could barely even glance over when Elijah was cutting into the man.
"Did you not see Elijah pull it out?" Klaus asks as he knew the girl was right next to his brother the whole time.
"I'm sure I passed out for a moment." Grace admits and Klaus only laughs as he shakes his head. Grace puts her spoon in her mouth, her eyes flickering over to Klaus a few times. "What are you going to do to Rebekah?" She asks as she didn't really know what his type of revenge was.
"Something poetic, make her suffer." Klaus says as he swirls his spoon in the bowl. He shrugs his shoulders, bringing the spoon to his lips. "Haven't decided yet." He admits as he looks to the side, only to see that Grace had stopped walking.
Grace was just stood there, her eyes wide as she stared in front of her. The reason for that was because her mother was standing just a few feet down the street. Ann obviously saw her and started walking towards her. "Love?" Klaus asks, glancing towards the woman before looking back at Grace. She just suddenly grabs his hand, pulling him across the street quickly. "Where are we going?" He questions as he walks in tow but he was still very confused on what had just happened.
"I just uh.. wanted to talk a walk in the park." Grace says as they walk the path through the trees. Klaus nods slowly before looking behind them but no one was there. He glanced at the girl, feeling her practically dragging him along.
"Did you know that woman?" He asks, it was obvious that she knew her otherwise she wouldn't have had that reaction.
"You can say that." Grace mumbles as she keeps her eyes forward but Klaus just pulls at her hand to bring her to a stop. She turns to him, glancing down at their hands that were still locked together. She clears her throat as she drops his, brushing her hair behind her ear.
"Love." Klaus says softly as he tilts his head, taking a step closer to her. Grace bites the inside of her cheek, closing her eyes for a moment as she turns her head down to the ground.
"It was my mom." She states as she brushes her hands along her pants before meeting his eyes. Klaus had somewhat guessed that but needed confirmation. They did look a like. "And I really do not feel like talking to her at this precise moment because I know I will definitely cry and I don't want to do that again in front of you." Grace explains to him and Klaus only furrows his eyebrows as he hears her. "So can we just go?" She asks as she goes to walk but Klaus grabs her arm, stopping her yet again. Grace sighs as she turns back to him.
"Why don't you want to cry in front of me?" Klaus asks, a little bit confused since she had cried just the other night. But she was also drunk and spurring about her past. He knew she was angry with her mother and rightfully so.
"Because it's stupid and weak and I just.. can we just keep walking?" She says with a loud sigh as she runs a hand through her hair. Grace turns to Klaus, seeing him looking at her warily. "Please." Grace really didn't want to stop and let her mother catch up to them or talk about this with him.
"Don't you want to say what's on your mind?" Klaus questions as he would have thought that Grace would love to absolutely go off on her mother. It wasn't like she has to hide anymore, her mother deserved to hear how shitty of a person she is.
"Trust me, you do not want to see that." She mumbles as she shakes her head. Klaus suddenly smirks, shrugging his shoulders.
"I'm not quite sure, love. I think you being angry is very attractive." He flirts with a wink making her have to contain her laugh, instead just squinting her eyes at him, a hint of a smirk on her lips.
"Shut up." Grace replies with a roll of her eyes as she shoves him to the side. Klaus only chuckles as he brings his spoon up to his mouth.
He couldn't help but glance at her, a bright smile on his lips as he runs his eyes over her features. The way her eyes would crease everytime her lips turned up, her dimples showing in her cheeks. The way she would tuck her hair behind her ears when she would get nervous. And just the way her whole aura consumed him everytime he was near her. He was infatuated with her.
In a way that he couldn't get rid of.
BY NOW, Klaus and Grace had practically done a lap of the French quarter, just talking about random things. Mainly, Grace's job as Klaus had a lot of questions. It seemed like he was interested in it but Grace didn't know why. Klaus stops walking, bringing Grace to a halt. "I should go, find Rebekah." Klaus tells her as they had been walking for a while now and he knew Rebekah would be wandering around trying to find the witches. "You know you didn't have to stick by my side until I was fully healed." He says as he looks towards her and Grace only shrugs her shoulders.
"You're the only one in this city right now that I actually like." Grace admits as everyone else seemed to somehow get themselves on her bad side. "Well, there's Cami but you were the one that was stabbed." She adds as she smirks a little bit. Klaus chuckles as he squints his eyes at her.
"Oh, so I was the default choice?" Klaus asks with a gasp and Grace only raises her eyebrows at him.
"You didn't think I'd actually want to hang out with you, did you?" She questions teasingly before giggling. "Well, um. I guess I'll see you at the compound, after you do whatever to Rebekah." Grace says as she turns to him and he nods his head.
"I had fun, which I haven't really had in a while." Klaus admits as he didn't realize he could smile this much until he walked with her.
"Well no kidding. You're so uptight." She taunts as she pokes his side and Klaus only playfully glares at her.
"You always have to ruin my compliments, love." Klaus says as he shakes his head with a smile on his lips. Grace only shrugs her shoulders, giving a smirk.
"It's my speciality." She retorts and he only rolls his eyes playfully. "I did too." Grace admits as she smiles up at him. Klaus got lost in her eyes for a moment, seeing them sparkle under the sun. He clears his throat, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'll see you later." He says, putting his hand on her shoulder before walking past her. Grace only smiles, shaking her head before continuing in the direction that she was headed.
She honestly didn't mind hanging out with him. Well, when he was like this and wasn't trying to murder everyone all the time. Grace thought he could actually become one of the ones close to her but that would take a lot of time and trust. And she didn't know if she was there yet. Sure, he understood her and protected her but so did Dylan. It wouldn't be easy.
Grace sighs as she looks up from the ground, only seeing her mother in front of her. Her body freezes as she noticed Ann turn her head in her direction. "Grace." Ann says making Grace just turn and walk in the other direction. She could hear footsteps behind her but that only makes her walk faster. "Grace, please stop." She tries as the woman just seemed to not glance back at her.
"Why? So, you can rub your new life in my face?" Grace asks as she rolls her eyes, not needing to know how she moved on and got happiness from another daughter.
"I can explain everything." She says as she walks after grace. The blonde turns to face her mother, raising an eyebrow.
"Explain?" Grace questions and Ann nods her head. "Okay, why don't you explain why you let him abuse me for eight years?" She asks as she clasps her hands together. Ann only sighs as she glanced away for a moment.
"There was nothing I could do." Ann says and Grace had to take a deep breath, there was plenty she couldve done. She just didn't have the guts to do it.
"Are you kidding me?" Grace asks her and she could see the pain in her mother's eyes. But it was probably for herself. "You just can't admit that you were a fucking Coward that let your child take your beating." She snaps and Ann only clenches her jaw.
"Your father had a temper, he wasn't just hurting you--" Ann starts to say and Grace knew she was about to say that she was also abused. But that isn't the same thing.
"But there's a difference between you and me! I was a child!" Grace screams at her and Ann flinches lightly. She didn't know whether it was the loudness of her tone or the fact that maybe it was hitting her that she was also a villain in Grace's story. "I was your child and you let him hurt me." She says, pushing the woman back lightly. Grace would never hurt her but that didn't mean anything. "I was nine when he first touched my thigh." Ann closes her eyes for a moment, shaking her head. "Nine! And you did nothing." Grace states and Ann only fiddles with her fingers.
"I didn't know what to do." She mumbles and Grace only brings her hands up to her.
"You help your daughter!" Grace shouts at her as there was a pretty simple answer that she never grasped in her brain apparently. "That's what you do." She says as if she even had a shred of humanity in her,she would've protected her daughter. "You don't just stand there and watch as she screams for your help." Grace says, her voice breaking and Ann shakes her head.
"I-i was afraid." She admits, she knew how her husband could get. Ann was just terrified that if she tried something, he would do something more permanent.
"But that didn't stop you from leaving him when I was already gone." Grace points out as she wouldn't be surprised if Ann had left Robert the same month as she left. "Why didn't you try to leave him when I was there? What was so wrong about me that you decided I deserved to be abused like that." She asks, staring at her mother with such hatred in her eyes.
"You didn't deserve any of it. You were just a little girl-" Ann starts to say but Grace only scoffs.
"And you never even once stopped him." She states and Ann knew that, she knew what she allowed and she knew it was wrong.
"I was strung on pain pills most of the time to get my mind blank, I-i would never have left you there otherwise." Ann says but it was just another excuse. Grace knew that she would just use excuse after excuse instead of taking responsibility.
"Eight years." Grace says and Ann only furrows her eyebrows. "Maybe if you tried something at least once, I would believe you." She admits, if her mother had tried to stop her father. Even if it was only one single time, maybe she would believe a word that came out of her mouth. "But you left me there for eight years." She sneers and Ann knew that, but when she realized the girl had run away, she felt so much joy and relief in her chest.
"But you got out." She states and Grace had to stop herself from slapping the woman.
"Yeah, I got myself out!" Grace screams at her, not caring as people stared at them. She shakes her head as her mother was really trying to use that she escaped as part of her tactic. "Because you weren't there!" She says as she glares at Ann who only glances down at the ground. "I had to do everything myself. I had to be a mother to myself. I had to be a father, I had to parent myself to keep me safe. I did that because I knew you never loved me!" She shouts as she feels tears threatening to escape from her eyes but she wouldn't let them. She wouldnt let her mother have that kind of control over her, not anymore.
"I do love you!" Ann says as she steps towards Grace but the woman only scoffs. It really seemed like it when she was letting her husband rape her child.
"Really?" She asks as she raises an eyebrow at her. "So, you didn't just start a new family and forget all about me?" Grace questions and Ann sighs, biting the inside of her cheek.
"It's not like that." Ann tries to tell her but Grace was completely done with her bullshit.
"Then what is it like? Tell me." Grace says as she was wondering what elaborate excuse the woman had. It had to be good if the woman had come all the way to New Orleans to say it.
"I spent every waking minute since I left, searching for you." Ann admits as she wipes away the tears that had came out of her eyes. "When I found Paul, it just happened. I was never looking for another person." She says and Grace only rolls her eyes. If she truly cared, she wouldn't have settled down with the man. "And even though I love him, I was still looking for you." Ann says as she had even explained to Paul that she was looking for her daughter and he had told her that he would help her look.
"So, what? You think that you can just come find me and expect me to be a part of your new shiny, happy family?" Grace asks as she crosses her arms against her chest. Hanna didn't seem bad but she seriously did not need a reminder that her mother chose someone else.
"Hanna is such a sweet girl. You'd know that if you had actually talked to her." Ann retorts as Hanna had come and told her that she had found the girl but she didn't seem particularly thrilled to meet her.
"I'm sorry I don't want to talk to my replacement." She snaps as she shakes her head. She states at her mother who just keeps her mouth shut. "What did she do, that I didn't do?" Grace asks as she truly wanted to know how Hanna acted to get to see the apparent 'good side' of her mother.
"You never did anything, Grace. You were just a little girl." Ann tells her and Grace couldn't really stand to hear her keep saying this. Yes, she was a little girl but she was her little girl. Maybe she was really sorry but sorry didn't fix anything. Not when it was this broken.
"You have a job?" She asks and her mother only nods her dad. Grace had to bite her cheek as she could feel the tears reforming. "Your job was to be my mother." Grace states, her voice shaking and Ann only takes a step towards her but Grace only backs up.
"Please, I can make this right-" She promises but Grace only scoffs, glaring at the woman.
"There is no making it right." She sneers, her voice sharp as she couldn't ever see herself forgiving her. "There is no recovering those years that I lost. So, you can leave because you are not my mother." Grace tells her as she had never wanted to see her ever again so she was okay with her mother leaving and never coming back.
"But I am your mother, but you are not a child anymore." Ann says as she thought the woman would but a little bit more mature of how she handled this. Grace's eyes only go void as she stares back at her mom.
"I never was." She responds as she feels a tear drop out of her eye. Her mother's face softens as she closes her eyes for a moment. Grace only shakes her head before turning and walking away from her. Ann didnt follow, knowing that there really was no fixing this.
Grace gets to an alley, walking through it before stopping in the middle. She leans against the wall, bringing her hands to her face. She cries softly as she slides down the wall, bringing her knees up to her chest. Grace could feel her body shaking as she wrapped her arms around herself, glancing up at the sky as the tears streamed down her face.
GRACE MADE IT BACK TO THE COMPOUND, still sniffling lightly as she wipes the tears from her eyes. She knew her mother would probably keep coming to apologize but each time, she would just reply with the same thing. You are not my mother and I want nothing to do with you. Something Ann probably won't get into her head until a few times in.
She lets out a sigh as she walks up the stairs, passing Klaus' room. But she stops, backtracking in her steps as she noticed the hybrid standing next to his bed with a glass in his hand. Grace furrows her eyebrows, opening the door a little more and stepping inside.
"And why aren't you out searching for Rebekah?" Grace asks as she crosses her arms against her chest. She would've thought he'd be somewhere far away from now looking for his sister. Klaus glanced at her as he drinks the alcohol in his glass.
"I don't have to go far love, in fact, I know exactly where she'll be." Klaus states as he walks closer to her. Grace was a little confused on how he already figured it out. It hasn't been that long since he left her.
"Where?" Grace asks him and he only stops in front of her. Klaus goes to say something before his face drops, his finger going to her chin to lift it more into the light.
"You've been crying." Klaus says as he sees the tear stains on her cheeks, the dried mascarw and the rosy cheeks. Grace sighs as she moves his finger off of her, clenching her jaw.
"I don't want to talk about it, okay?" She says, really not needing to relive something that had just happened.
"As you wish." Klaus says with a nod, turning to refill his glass. "I believe my sister and Marcel are going to do a cloaking spell and for that they need a witch." He tells the blonde who nods her head slowly.
"Okay?" Grace only gives him an expectant look as she wasn't a mind reader.
"What witch would Marcel never leave behind?" Klaus asks her and it didn't take long before she got the answer. Grace knew who Marcel cared about the most and who he used to control everyone.
"Davina." She replies and Klaus nods his head before lifting his finger up.
"Therefore, they're going to try and kill the rest of the resurrected witches and bring her back." Klaus states as it was the only way to bring Davina back to life. Grace looks at the pictures they had on the three witch's. She knew one was Celeste but the redhead caught her eye.
"Its too bad. This one's kinda cute." Grace mumbles as she picks up the picture for a moment before placing it back down.
"Are you on my side?" Klaus asks as he steps next to her. Grace glances at him, smirking lightly.
"I don't buy frozen yogurt for just anyone." Grace teases as she winks at him. Klaus smiles but was partially confused.
"Is that some sort of pick up line?" Klaus questions with a chuckle as he licks his bottom lip. Grace only rolls her eyes as she places her hand on her hip.
"You'd know if I was trying to charm you, Klaus." Grace retorts as she would have a way better pick up line if she wanted to get in his pants. Klaus shrugs his shoulders, taking a closer step towards her.
"Many women haven gotten me into bed with less." Klaus says with a smirk riding on his lips and she only pushes him back, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Then they truly have no taste in men." Grace retorts with a tight smile as she turns away but Klaus just chuckles, biting his bottom lip.
"As oppose to your exquisite taste?" He asks her and she only turns her head back to him, squinting her eyes.
"Oh, my taste is exceptional." She says in a sultry voice but Klaus only snorts, shaking his head.
"You slept with my sister so I beg to differ." Klaus tells her and she rolls her eyes, she definitely found Rebekah attractive but of course he would question her taste since Rebekah was his sister.
"I have a question." Grace says after a moment. "You say your father hunted you for centuries, wanted to kill you. But you can't be killed?" She asks, tilting her head as she crosses her arms against her chest.
"Oh, but we can, love." Klaus replies and Grace just stared at him confused. How can they be immortal and unkillable and yet their father could kill them? "My father had fashioned a stake out of the old white oak tree and had a means to thrust it through my heart." He explains to her and her eyes widen as she hears him. So, that's why Klaus was afraid of him. Mikael could've actually killed him. "Elijah has always blamed himself for not stopping our father that night in 1919, but I told him it wasn't his fault. If father wants to kill me, he will kill me." Klaus states as he takes a step towards a painting. She just watched as he opens it, pulling out a stake. His phone buzzed making him pull it out. "Look at that, rebekah and Marcel have been spotted in town." He says with a smirk as he starts walking towards her but her eyes were still on what he was holding.
"What is that?" She asks him as she points towards the stake. Klaus looks at it before meeting her eyes.
"A white oak stake of my own creation. But as oppose to the one my father had. This one cannot be destroyed." Klaus tells her and Grace's mouth parts. She knew stakes could kill vampires so that meant that this one could kill an original.
"Wait, I thought you just wanted revenge?" Grace questions as that was what she thought he had meant.
"And I will get it." Klaus states as he just stared back at her. Grace furrows her eyebrows, crossing her arms against her chest.
"By killing her?" She asks, this was not what she had in mind when Klaus told her he wanted revenge. She thought he would just use the dagger or the blade, something that wasn't permanent.
"You're on my side, or you're not." Klaus says with a sigh as he didn't have time to argue with her. He didn't care if she was with him or not
"There has to be a different way." Grace says as there had to be a way to hurt rebekah without killing her.
"There isn't." He replies as he goes to move past her but she just puts her hands on his chest. Klaus glanced down at her, simply sighing.
"Klaus." She says softly as she looks into his eyes. Grace knew he was angry and he had every right to be but this wasn't what he should do. "I promise you, you will regret this." Grace states and Klaus only brings his hands up to hers, yanking them off of his body.
"And I promise you.." Klaus trails off as he shakes his head, pushing her back slightly. She furrows her eyebrows as she stares at him but he only pushes his way past her.
"I won't."
