GRACE MARSHALL HAD GOTTEN A RATHER LONG TEXT FROM HER SISTER HAYLEY JUST A FEW DAYS AGO. For the most part, she understood what Hayley was trying to tell her but a lot of it she didn't. Grace wasn't new to the supernatural world since Hayley had been a werewolf for years but she had never met a vampire in her life. And apparently, an original vampire, which was supposed to be the biggest and worst of them all, which Grace couldn't care less about, had gotten her sister pregnant. Now, Grace had read her fair share, she knew some things about them, like the fact that they can't procreate. Hayley hadn't really gone into much detail since she said it'd be much easier to explain in person.
All she said in the text was, she had found out she was pregnant with an original's baby, she was staying with said originals, there was a witch named Sophie who was linked to her, and that the place was crawling with vampires so she should be careful.ย And that she needed her. Grace only cared about the last part of the next. If Hayley needed her, then she would come. No matter what. She didn't care if it was a dangerous situation, she would protect her sister.
Walking down the streets of New Orleans, she glanced back at the car she had rented from the airport. It was easier than getting a taxi because she didn't know exactly where she was going. Hayley had been very vague in her texts, only telling her which city she was in. "This bitch didn't even give me an address." Grace mutters as she stares down at her phone. She had texted Hayley, asking where she was staying but hadn't gotten a response. "Oh, now you ignore me?" She asks as she notices the read indication underneath the text. Grace looks around, noticing a sign that says Rousseau's. She squints her eyes before walking inside. Maybe someone would be able to tell her where Hayley was.
Grace walks over to the bar, and sees a blonde woman with her back turned against her. "Excuse me?" Grace asks, stopping next to the bar. The woman turns around and Grace can't help but admire her. She let a small smirk form as she ran her eyes down the girl. Grace has been with her fair share of women, they were just more elite than men. Plus, any man who tried to flirt with her just did a very unsuccessful job.
"Can I help you?" Camille asks kindly as she smiles at the woman. Grace places her hands on the bar as she sits down on one of the stools.
"I'm looking for Hayley Marshall, do you know her?" Grace asks curiously but just as Camille goes to say something, another voice interrupts her.
"And why are you looking for Hayley, love?" Grace turned her head to see a man standing next to her, a subtle smirk on his lips but she could tell that he was trying to figure her out.
"I don't see why that's any of your business since I didn't ask you." She responds with a tight smile before pointing to Camille. "I asked this beautiful woman in front of me," Grace says, making sure to send a wink to Camille who glanced down at her hands, turning slightly red.
"Now, no need to be hostile," Klaus tells her as he leans against the bar, tilting his head at her. Grace could see the small once-over he did. She rests her elbow on the bar, letting her chin settle on the palm of her hand.
"Let me guess, you're the kind of guy who extorts his power and charm over women because it makes you feel more in control," Grace says as she watches the man's every move. You can tell you're getting under someone's skin by the littlest signs. For men, it was usually them becoming tense or averting eye contact. "Am I right?" She asks as she raises an eyebrow at Klaus who only takes another step towards her.
"You're not wrong." Klaus retorts with a smirk playing on his lips. But Grace only squints her eyes at him.
"Do you think that's cute?" She questions.
"Do you think it's cute?" Klaus asks as he raises an eyebrow at her. Grace only rolled her eyes, bringing her attention back to the blonde who was just smirking at herself.
"I think you're insufferable," Grace tells him as she runs a hand through her hair. She glanced back at him, seeing the smirk wiped off of his face. "Now, do you mind? I was having a conversation before you rudely interrupted." She states, pointing her finger towards the door. Klaus only clenches his jaw before walking away from the pair. Camille laughs, shaking her head as she leans against the bar.
"Sorry, I'm not sure where she is," Camille tells her with a soft smile, frankly, she didn't know much about Hayley so she'd doubt she would've been helpful.
"Well, you could always give me your number. You know, text me if you found out." Grace says making Camille raise an eyebrow at her before Grace's phone chimes in her pocket. She takes it out, looking at the address Hayley had sent her. "Ah, that's her." She states, putting her phone down and looking back at Camille.
"Guess you got it sorted out," Camille says as she stands back up straight. But Grace only rests her chin in the palm of her hand.
"I'll still take your number, though," Grace responds, smiling at the woman who blushes lightly. But Camille takes a napkin and her pen, writing it down before sliding it across the bar. Grace winks, smirking before grabbing it at sauntering out of the bar.

GRACE MADE HER WAY TOWARDS THE FRONT DOOR, glancing around as she was sure she didn't have the right house. Either Hayley broke in or her baby daddy was a very rich person. But then again, Hayley did say they could compel their way through life so there's that. She sighs, knocking on the door as she fiddles with her fingers. The door eventually opens but it wasn't Hayley standing in front of her, instead a beautiful blonde woman was. "Who are you?" The blonde in front of her asked quite rudely. Grace furrowed her eyebrows as glanced back down at the text on her phone. She could've sworn she came to the right address. But this woman was definitely not Hayley.
"Oh, I think I got the wrong house." Grace answers her, beginning to turn around until she hears a scream from behind her.
"Grace!" Hayley calls her name, rushing down the hall as she sees that Rebekah has answered the door. Grace smiled as she moved past Rebekah who was slightly surprised. "Oh, thank god you're here." She says as she wraps her arms tightly around Grace. Grace laughs as she hugs the girl back.
"Hey, sugar." Grace replies before they pull away from each other. Her eyes move to the girl's stomach, placing her hand gently. "So, what's this about you having a bun in the oven?" She asks curiously, never once did Grace think that Hayley would be the first to get pregnant. But it was kind of inevitable since Grace didn't sleep with many men.
"You always warned me about one-night stands and I never listened," Hayley replies as she shakes her head, Grace was always right when it came to her advice, Hayley just always failed to listen and then figured that out after something horrible happened in her life.
"No, I said don't have them with men. Women are still on the table." Grace states as she gives Rebekah a once over, biting the inside of her cheek. She could see another man in a suit, standing not too far away.
"Well, it happened and now I have a baby with a literal psychopath," Hayley mutters as she rubs her face. Grace only raises an eyebrow at her.
"I thought it was a vampire?" Grace asks as she could've sworn that she read it was an original vampire who got her pregnant. Didn't give her a name though.
"Hybrid. He's part werewolf." She replies making Grace nod her head. "Him," Hayley says, pointing her finger behind the blonde. Grace turns around, and sees the man walking in. She lets out a scoff, a playful smile on her lips.
"Oh look, it's you. The nosy, narcissistic bastard." Grace says as she looks at Klaus who had stopped walking when he saw her. He looks a little confused, probably on why she was in his house. "We already had the pleasure of meeting." She says, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she crosses her arms against her chest. Hayley raises an eyebrow, snorting lightly.
"Something tells me he tried to use his charm?" Hayley suggests, knowing that when most guys did that, Grace either ended up kicking the guys' ass or making their egos hurt by telling them all the little details in which they use their masculinity to cover up.
"And failed." Grace states as she brushes her hair over her shoulder. Rebekah was just staring at the two, scoffing as she rolled her eyes.
"Okay, since no one else is asking. Who the bloody hell are you?" Rebekah questions in a firm tone, her face not looking the friendliest.
"I'm Grace, Hayley's sister. Who are you?" Grace answers her, her voice not wavering once as she had a slight attitude during the last part of her sentence as she put her hand on her hip, tilting her head.
"Rebekah... Mikaelson?" Rebekah answers, her eyebrows furrowing as she had rarely been talked to with such an attitude. She was a little taken aback as Grace just placed a hand on her hip, tilting her head.
"Is that an answer or a question?" She asks making Rebekah just glance at her brothers for a moment. Both of them were equally shocked that the girl had the nerve to talk back to their sister, they knew Hayley must have mentioned her.
"You've got quite a snarky tongue." Rebekah retorts, squinting her eyes as she points her finger at Grace. She takes a few steps towards her, Hayley getting on the defensive. But a smirk makes its way onto Rebekah's lips. "I think I like you." She says as she crosses her arms against her chest. Grace lets out a laugh, shrugging her shoulders.
"Most people do." She replies making Rebekah smile at her before her gaze moves to Hayley. She squints her eyes lightly, obviously doing some math inside of her head.
"You expect me to believe that this gorgeous specimen is your sister?" Rebekah asks, scoffing lightly as she doesn't see the resemblance at all.
"Meaning, you're also a werewolf?" Elijah asks, wondering if Grace shared the same trait as her since the werewolf gene usually ran in the family.
"No, I'm a lawyer." Grace states bluntly making Elijah just stare at her confused.
"I'm sorry?" He asks, tilting his head and Hayley just lets out a sigh.
"We're not related by blood," Hayley tells them, and now it made much more sense in their heads. The two didn't look alike at all and were definitely polar opposites in personality. "But we're still sisters, family." She says as she smiles down at Grace who only smiles back at her.
"Oh, great. Meaning you'll be sticking around, love?" Klaus says, his voice not full of enthusiasm. Grace just squints her eyes before wrapping her arm around Hayley's shoulders.
"At least until I make sure that no one touches my little sister." She responds as her jaw clenches, her eyes resting on the hybrid. "No one." Grace's voice had a sense of hostility in it making Klaus only raise an eyebrow at her.
"You did hear the part about that being my baby?" Klaus asks her with a slight chuckle but Grace isn't amused. He didn't seem to be the best person in general, why would she think that he would be more than a mediocre father?
"Parents don't always have to care for their children." Grace states making Hayley tense as she flickers her eyes between them. She knew how much Grace hated abusive parents and if Klaus had already tried to hurt Hayley, what would he do to the child?
"You have my word, he will not harm Hayley or her child," Elijah speaks up, giving his brother a warning look. Klaus only rolls his eyes as he crosses his arms against his chest.
"So, which room is mine?" Grace questioned as she glanced around the overly big mansion. No one in their right mind needed a house this big. Her eyes move over to Rebekah, a smirk playing on her lips. "Or, I mean, we can share if it gets cold at night." She flirts, winking at the blonde original. Rebekah can't help but smirk back at her, her eyes running over the girl.
"Grace." Hayley scolds bluntly, she didn't need Grace getting involved with any original because if she did, she couldn't just pack up and leave. Right now she has the opportunity to get the hell out of here if things went sideways.
"Oh, come on. I'm in a town of vampires and witches, let me have a little fun." Grace retorts with a sigh as she crosses her arms against her chest. Hayley just smiles at her, shaking her head. Grace's eyes move to Klaus, a smirk pulling on her lips. She walks over to him, the man simply raising an eyebrow at her. "You don't mind grabbing my bags do you, love?" Grace asks in a sweet voice, batting her eyelashes before she pats his chest, moving by the original. Klaus just stood there for a moment, his mouth parted lightly before seeing the smirks on his family's faces. He grumbles to himself before making his way out of the door
GRACE AND HAYLEY SAT ON THE COUCH TOGETHER, their legs intertwined as they just took a moment to catch up with each other. With Grace being a lawyer and Hayley having so much supernatural stuff to deal with, there hadn't been much time to really talk for the past month or so. "So, these witches are in control of your life and there's another psychopathic vampire in charge of this town who kills anyone who crosses him?" Grace asked curiously, wondering if she had actually heard that right because when it came out of her mouth, it sounded like she was completely insane.
"Yep," Hayley says, pressing her lips together tightly. Grace only lets out a scoff, raising an eyebrow at the brunette.
"Wow, sugar. You really know how to pick 'em'." Grace says sarcastically as she shakes her head. Hayley groans as she rests her head back against the couch. "So, when is the baby gonna pop out?" She asks making Hayley's eyebrows furrow, looking at the girl confused. "Isn't this like a magic baby? Do you still have to suffer nine months?" Grace asks, she would've thought that being the mother of a miracle baby would have some sort of perk but apparently not.
"Unfortunately," Hayley says with a sigh as she rests her hand on her stomach.
"More wine for me then." Grace retorts as she leans forward, filling her wine glass up before settling back against the couch. Hayley only shakes her head with a smile before resting her head on her hand.
"Since when were you a day drinker?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow since it was only the middle of the day.
"Since my job has been a lawyer," Grace tells her, the job did get stressful at times but she wouldn't want to do anything else. She loved it.
"How's that going, by the way?" Hayley asks as she was there when she passed the law exam but everything's been so busy in Hayley's life ever since she traveled to Mystic Falls to look for her birth family.
"Great, I love prosecuting scumbags and watching them cry for their mommy when they are found guilty." Grace states with a smirk playing on her lips, a laugh leaving her. Hayley smiles as she shakes her head, knowing that Grace loved what she did because even if she couldn't get justice for herself, she could get it for others. Hayley lets her eyes stare at her sister for a moment before she lets out a sigh.
"Is it okay for you to be here though?" Hayley asks curiously, she never really asked if she had anything going on at her job. She just said, please come and explained the situation.
"Hayley, I would travel across fire and ocean to be with you. All you have to do is call, and I'm here. You know that." Grace tells her with a smile as she holds onto the girl's hand. Hayley nodded her head, of course, she knew that but it didn't make her feel any less guilty.
"I know, it just feels like you're putting your life on hold for me." She points out with a shrug of her shoulders. Grace bites the inside of her cheek before sitting up straight, placing her wine glass on the table, and turning to the girl.
"My job will still be there, I'm still doing my work while I'm here, I just don't have any upcoming trial dates yet." Grace states, that if she was needed physically at her job, she would be there. It wasn't too far away because her law firm was in New York. "But my priority is always you, not my job." She tells the girl as she brushes her finger on the girl's nose. It was always what Grace did when Hayley needed advice or just for someone to be there for her. It had started because when they first met, Grace wasn't big on physical contact so they came up with it.
"I love you," Hayley says as she rests against Grace, her hand placed on her stomach.
"I love you too." Grace replies as she presses a kiss to the side of her head before letting it rest on her shoulder. Grace ran her fingers through Hayley's hair, feeling the girl's breath start to slow down as her eyes closed. Grace wasn't lying when she said that protecting Hayley was a priority. She would do anything to keep her safe and if that meant risking her own life, then so be it
ELIJAH WAS DRINKING SOME BLOOD OUT OF A GLASS IN THE KITCHEN, he had only just recently come back to the land of the living and hadn't drank much since his talk with Davina took a little longer than expected. But at least they knew the plan that Sophie had and hopefully, they were able to stop her. "You should probably get some real food since you know, my pregnant sister lives here," Grace tells the man who turns at the sound of her voice. Elijah puts his hands in his pockets, taking a few steps towards the girl who was filling up a glass with water.
"We make sure to keep her fed," Elijah replies as they aren't exactly starving the girl. They were making sure she had plenty of food and beverages, it's just that they didn't keep the cupboards packed because she was the only one to eat any of it a lot of the time.
"She's not a dog," Grace says as she raises her eyebrows at his words. Elijah realized how it sounded, a small smile on his lips as he brought his finger up to scratch the side of his head.
"No, that she is not." He tells her as he leans against the wall, tilting his head at her. Grace knew each of the originals names, she just had to place them with the face. Grace knew there were Klaus and Elijah, she just had to say the right one. Hayley didn't exactly mention the name of her baby daddy, just that he was the hybrid. And with Grace not following any of the supernatural stuff, she didn't exactly know who the originals were until Hayley told her. But considering Klaus was the one whom Hayley described as a psycho lunatic. The man in front of her had to be Elijah.
"You're Elijah, correct?" Grace asks before drinking from her glass. Elijah nods his head at her. "Hayley told me that you protected her whenever she first learned about the baby."ย She says as she taps her fingers against the glass. Elijah just stared at her for a moment before walking over to the woman so that he was directly in front of her. He gazes down at Grace, seeing the girl squint lightly.
"I would never harm a child, so I would never allow my brother to do anything that would hurt your sister," Elijah assures her as he keeps his eyes on hers. Grace knew he wasn't lying, he did seem exactly as Hayley had described him.
"You might be my favourite original." Grace states as she points her finger at the man. Elijah chuckles as he clasps his hands behind his back.
"I doubt that since you seem very fond of my sister." Elijah points out with a raise of his eyebrow. It wasn't a stretch to say that, as soon as she had walked into the house, she was flirting with Rebekah. Rebekah also seems to be reciprocating the energy.
"Your sister is hot." Grace states as she puts the glass on the counter. She raises an eyebrow at the original, giving him a sly smirk. "Put in a good word for me?" She asks in a teasing manner as she winks at the man. Elijah only shakes his head, licking his bottom lip as an amused expression forms for a moment.
"I see my brother has gotten on your bad side already," Elijah says making Grace's smirk drop as she clenches her jaw slightly. Klaus seemed like the type of person to think he was the best at everything. To always asserts his power over everyone and quite frankly, It didn't seem in her best interests to be friends with him since he likes to kill his own family.
"Well, psychopathic, narcissistic, killers aren't exactly my type." Grace retorts as she leans against the counter. Elijah tilts his head, raising an eyebrow at her.
"I guess they're not for everyone." Elijah taunts back at her making her smile as she lets out a little bit of a sigh.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go get some groceries," Grace tells him as she pats him on the chest before moving past the original. Elijah only smiles, shaking his head, his eyes following the girl for a moment before he walks in the opposite direction.
GRACE RUBS HER EYES, a sigh leaving her lips as she stares at the page in front of her. She was trying to link the suspect they had to the crimes but she couldn't find the last piece of the puzzle they needed. The suspect had motive and opportunity, and they could link him to the scene but the problem was, that they didn't have a murder weapon. The victims were shot with a revolver, meaning no shell casings to get fingerprints off of. Now, usually, they could stick the case without the murder weapon with this much evidence. But the suspect is the father. His prints are in the house because he lived there. He had motive because he suspected his wife was cheating on him and he definitely had plenty of opportunities when living with them. But Grace needed the murder weapon so that there was no way in hell, he could scrape right by.
Grace suddenly hears footsteps behind her, she had grown accustomed to quiet noises because that's all she would listen for when she was younger. Her father's footsteps and whether they were going towards her room or away from it. "You know, it's rude to enter somewhere without knocking," Grace says to the intruder as she keeps her eyes on her work. She hears the person let out a sigh before walking back and knocking on the door. "That's better." She tells them as she looks up from the page, turning in her seat. Much to her dismay, it was Klaus standing near her door.
"I've just come to see if you're settling in okay, love," Klaus states as he moves into the room once again. Grace just bluntly stares back at him as if she isn't in the mood for company, specifically his.
"I'm fine." Grace mutters as she turns back around in her seat. "I'm actually busy, so." She says, waving him off as she picks up her pen. But Klaus doesn't take that as a sign to go away, instead, he just leans over her shoulder.
"Working on a case?" Klaus questions as the girl puts the end of the pen between her teeth. Grace glances at him, a deadpan expression on her face.
"No, I'm making a pizza menu." Grace replies with a roll of her eyes.
"You are very sarcastic, aren't you?" Klaus says with a smirk playing on his lips. Grace just lets a breath leave her lips as she rests her chin on the palm of her hand.
"If I say yes, will you go away?" Grace asks as she puts on a fake smile. Klaus just squints his eyes, his playful attitude seemingly fading away, a scowl now on his face. Usually, he killed anyone who was speaking to him the way she was, but unfortunately, that wasn't something he could do here.
"Mind your tongue, love," Klaus warns as he clenches his jaw. Grace just raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk pulling on her lips as she was clearly getting underneath his skin. She loved making men squirm and get so angry that they felt like they had to protect their masculinity by either trying to get the upper hand or overpowering her.
"What will you do? Choke me?" Grace taunted as she suddenly had a harsh glare set in her eyes. Hayley had warned her about Klaus and how he didn't exactly seem stable. And when Hayley mentioned that Klaus had laid a finger on her, she wasn't just going to keep her mouth shut. "I know how you were when Hayley's pregnancy was revealed to you, so sorry if I don't want to become besties." She tells him with a roll of her eyes as she brings her wine to her lips, taking a sip as she notices the way the hybrid stared at her with anger in his eyes.
"I don't think you realize just how dangerous it is here," Klaus says, his voice low as he keeps his eyes sharply on hers. Grace just lets out a breath as she runs her tongue over her bottom lip.
"And you're supposed to be, what? My protector?" Grace asks as she stands up, taking a step closer to Klaus which catches him a little bit off guard. "I don't need protecting, especially not by men like you." She states as she places a hand on her hip. She would never take a man's help, especially if he thinks he's superior to her. Klaus may be an original but Grace could care less about all of this supernatural crap. If she wanted to, she could take him. Strength wasn't always how you won a fight.
"Is everything okay in here?" Rebekah's voice pipes up as she stands by the door. She had heard the last of the conversation and it didn't exactly seem to be friendly. Grace just keeps her eyes on Klaus, not daring to be the first person to look away. "Nik?" She asks, in a more scolding tone making Klaus' eyes break away, finding his sister.
"Everything's fine, Bekah," Klaus replies with a smirk playing on his lips. He clasps his hands behind his back as he shrugs his shoulders. "I was just curious about her work, is all." He states, sending Grace a wink before leaving the room. Grace lets out a sigh as she sits back down in her chair.
"My brother wasn't annoying you, was he?" Rebekah asks as she walks over to the girl. Grace just cocks an eyebrow at her, moving her mouth to the side as she pretends to ponder.
"Annoying doesn't seem like the right word." Grace retorts before a smirk forms on her lips. Rebekah only laughed, shaking her head as she seemed to not care that her brother had vampire hearing. She didn't seem to care what most people thought.
"You know, most humans I despise, but you're okay," Rebekah tells her with a smile as she places her hand on the girl's shoulder. Grace simply stared up at her, her eyebrows furrowing as a ghost of a smile appeared on her face.
"That's a compliment?" She asks as she knows vampires love to kill humans. Originals were no different. The only difference here was she was the sister of the woman the original hybrid knocked up. Meaning, technically she was safe, at least that's what Grace believes. Until Klaus decides he's had enough of her back-talking and tries to kill her.
"Of the highest honor," Rebekah states with a light laugh making Grace shake her head but she felt pretty okay in Rebekah's presence. Sure, Hayley warned her of the attitude and the temper she had but right now, the blonde original seemed great to hang around. Plus, they could drink wine together since Hayley couldn't for the next few months.
Grace had friends. But most of them were work-related. She never really wanted to get close to anybody, nobody but Hayley. But it was different with Hayley, it didn't feel forced. Most people see her scars and start to treat her differently which just makes her feel worse. But Hayley just tells her that scars prove that you went through something and survived. And she did. She got out of a nightmare, because of the werewolf. So, if she has to suffer a few months in New Orleans with an egomanical hybrid and his family, then so be it. Grace would make sure Hayley and the baby survived.
"You're not too bad yourself," Grace says as she turns back to the table, taking a sip of her wine. Rebekah leans against it, squinting her eyes as she roams them through the mountain of papers.
"So, what is the case you're working on?" Rebekah questions as she sees the computer open, a document with a whole bunch of notes on it. Grace only lets out a sigh as she opens the file next to her which had the crime scene photos in. Technically, she wasn't supposed to show anyone them but it's not like the vampire knew anyone in the lawyer world.
"Convicting a father of murdering his wife and daughter. Just need to solidify the evidence." She states as she takes a deep breath, resting back against the chair as she brings her glass to her lips. Rebekah widens her eyes as she raises an eyebrow.
"Bloody hell." She mutters as she looks over the girls' work so far. Rebekah grimaced when she got to the photographs. For being an a thousand-year-old vampire, you would think she could stomach something like this. But this was a family, that was murdered by one of their own. "Humans are just as cruel as vampires," Rebekah states as she shakes her head, her eyes moving to Grace. Oh, how right she was. This case reminded her of her past, how this could've easily been her if she hadn't escaped if she hadn't found Hayley. Every day, she is grateful to be breathing, to be alive.
"Trust me, they can be much worse."
