Chapter 8: Tutor.

"I swear you used to wear glasses?" Kageyama pondered, squinting his eyes a little bit.

You glanced up from your lunch, the black haired boy sitting next to you on at a bench during lunch time. It had been a few weeks since the start of school and you and Kageyama always spent lunch time together, like middle school. You were also getting to know the rest of his team and started to become friends with them, Hinata, Nishinoya and Tanaka in particular. Their new manager, Hitoka Yachi, was also a friend of yours as she is in a majority of your classes..

You smiled and swallowed the food in your mouth, putting the bento box down next to you and reaching in your F/C backpack. Pulling out a glasses case and flipping it open, you pulled out a pair of white translucent glasses, placing them on the tip of your nose and pushing them up against your face.

"They're the same ones as before." He pointed out.

"Yep. But I only use them for classes and studying." You explained. "But I don't really like them. I don't think they suit me very much." You chuckled.

"I think they do." Kageyama shrugged, shoving some of his lunch in his mouth carelessly.

You gave a small smile that tugged on the corners of your lips, appreciating the compliment that he probably didn't even realise he said, but it meant a lot non the less.

After lunch you went to your next class and Kageyama had to go to a volleyball meeting with the rest of the team.

When he arrived at the gym, the rest of his team were there and they sat in front of Ukai and Takeda as he began talking about an upcoming training camp in Tokyo.

"It's planned for next month." Takeda began explaining. "And because it is an away game we will need you to get permission from your parents or guardians, so I'll hand out those forms later. We also have tentative consent from the school, as well." This made everyone get excited for the upcoming training camp, but Takeda's next words made everyone quieten down. "However, as you are aware, you have final exams starting next month."

Kageyama, Hinata, Noya and Tanaka became engulfed in a state of shock and panic, freezing in place with wide eyes.

"If you have any failing grades, you wont be able to go."

Tanaka and Noya shot up from the ground and began sprinting away but were quickly stopped by Ennoshita.

"Hey! There's no where to run!" Daichi called out. "Ennoshita catch them!"

"WHAT COUNTS AS A FAILING GRADE?!" Hinata panicked.

"Why is that your question?!" Suga panicked back.

"KAGEYAMA ISN'T BREATHING!" Yamaguchi yelled, looking down to Kageyama who sat crossed legged on the floor, his face pale and body basically lifeless.

You held your pen tightly in your palm as you copied out the notes that the teacher was writing, listening to the words she was saying as she explained. Your bored gaze became averted as you finished writing everything down, the teacher just simply lecturing everything that you already knew. You peered over to your right and saw someone waving their hands around rapidly, clearly trying to get someone's attention.

It took you a few seconds until you realised it wasn't just a random student, it was Kageyama desperately trying to get your attention from outside the door, Hinata, Nishinoya and Tanaka stood behind him, also attempting to get you to notice them.

Your eyebrows pinched in confusion and you glanced around to see if anyone else had noticed, but they hadn't, still paying attention to the teacher. The boys continued to wave their arms around, motioning for you to leave the class, you shaking your head, but they desperately tried to get you to listen.

"L/N. Is everything okay?" The teacher noticed you not paying attention, you snapping your head back to the front of the class where she stood. She looked over to where you were looking, the four boys jumping behind the wall out of view.

"Uh.. yeah." You nodded. "Can I use the bathroom.. please?"

"Sure. Don't take too long." She replied nicely, you being completely grateful for having a kind teacher.

"Thankyou." You mumbled, quickly standing up and trying to walk out of the class unsuspiciously. You exited the room and turned a corner, seeing the boys stood there awkwardly.

You went to speak but-

"Please can you tutor us!" They all bowed, it all being oddly in sync which startled you a little bit.

"Wha-"

"Kageyama said you get really good grades, and well.. we don't.." Hinata begged. "And we need to go to the volleyball camp next month but we cant if we fail any exams!"

"Please L/N!" Tanaka and Nishinoya cried at the same time.

They all paused when you started chuckling lightly, a smile on your face as you found their desperate pleading amusing.

"You don't need to beg me." You giggled sweetly. "I'd happily tutor you, as long as we can work it around your volleyball and my track." You shrugged.

Their faces lit up. "YES!" They cheered, you glancing to Kageyama who had a small smile peeking over his lips, tugging on the corner of his mouth as he looked back at you, the three other boys celebrating with one another.

"Thankyou." He said quietly to you.

"No worries." You beamed with pink cheeks.

All of you jolted when you heard the classroom door slide open from around the corner, the four boys instantly sprinting away as the teacher looked to where you were all previously stood, you pretending you were just coming back from the bathroom.

"What was all that noise?" Your Professor furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

"Not sure." You shrugged lightly before following her back into the class.

After you finished your training and the boys finished their training, you studied with them for around an hour in the volleyball club room, going over Japanese literature and English phrases.

"Wow thanks L/N."  Hinata smiled, shoving a messy notebook into his bag. "You're actually really smart!"

"Yeah! You explain things better than my teacher does." Tanaka laughed.

"Thankyou." You grinned at the compliments as you put away your books into your F/C backpack.

"Will you help us tomorrow as well?!" Noya jumped up excitedly.

"Yeah sure." You nodded, walking out of the club room with the boys following after you. You glanced to Kageyama and he was quiet, his hands shoved into his pockets as he looked straight forward.

"Wanna get meat buns with us, L/N?" Hinata asked, you nodding gently in agreement.

"Yeah sounds good." You said. "I'm starving."

"Are you coming with us?" Hinata nudged Kageyama with his elbow, the black haired boy scowling at the bouncy ginger.

"Shut up." Kageyama bit, walking ahead as the group made their way out of school.

"Who pissed in his cereal?" Tanaka glanced to you and you just shrugged, just as confused.

You left the three boys and ran up ahead and walked along side the tall male, peering up at him. When he looked back, you showed him a reassuring smile, but he continued to keep his view focused forward.

"What's up?" You eventually said out loud.

"Nothing." He mumbled.

"Well that's a lie." You scoffed jokingly. "You can tell me if something is bothering you."

He hesitated. "Well nothing is bothering me."

You rolled your eyes at his stubbornness and continued to walk by his side in silence. You tried to think about anything that could've pissed him off, thinking all the way back to when he wasn't in a foul mood. Well, not in a mood that is grumpier than usual..

It could be Hinata getting on his nerves, but he's always getting on Kageyama's nerves so there's no difference from normal..

You pondered to yourself..

He wasn't like this at lunch.. so it must've been when we started studying. Maybe studying has just put him in a bad mood?

"How did you find the studying?" You tried to break the silence that began swarming the two of you, the only noise being the chatter of Noya, Tanaka and Hinata walking not far behind you.

"Good." He replied monotonously.

"Did you understand everything we covered?"

You noticed him glance away, but then refocus on the dimly lit pavement ahead of him. "Yeah." He mumbled.

"Okay. Good!" You beamed. "Now cheer up and lets get some meat buns because I think I might just pass out on the ground if I don't eat soon." You complained while laughing, your over-exaggeration making him smirk briefly.

You and the boys made it to the nearby store and grabbed a full bag of meat buns to share, eating them while talking to one another.

When you all finished everyone went their separate ways to go home, apart from Kageyama who walked you home, and had been doing since your near accident a few weeks back - just to make sure you made it home safe.

When you reached the outside of the hostel, you and Kageyama began to say your goodbyes for the night.

"Hey Kageyama."

"Hm?"

"Are you sure everything is okay?" You said quietly. "Because you've just seemed way more pissed off than usual this evening.. and it's weird."

"I- yeah I'm okay." He sighed. "I just... nevermind."

"Oh okay." You nodded. "Well, goodnight." You said, turning to head into the house.

"Wait, uh.." Kageyama started but continued to hesitate, you turning around to face him again.

"Yeah?"

"I didn't understand the English phrases." He mumbled, defiant to his words.

"Wha?-"

"I didn't want to say anything, because.." he inhaled. "Everyone else was understanding it and enjoying your teaching, and I didn't want to slow anyone down. And it pissed me off that they understood it and I didn't. Even that dumbass, Hinata, understood it." He growled.

"Is that's why you've been grumpy?" You giggled lightly.

"You don't need to say it like that!" He pouted, his eyebrows furrowed which triggered you to laugh a little more.

"Kageyama, I'd be more than happy to go over anything you don't understand." You smiled. "I get that some subjects are more difficult than others, so I can help you, if you want."

He nodded, you noticing that it was hinted with slight embarrassment.

"Are you free this weekend?" You asked.

"Yeah."

"Then come over and we can study together."
