Eventually she encountered one, though it wasn't very pleasant since the first vampire she met was Damon Salvatore. Who compelled her to be his little consultant.

He would rant to her about his brother and the other supernaturals of the town only for her to forget it all the second he left her company.

Eventually she caught on to the secret and began to record everything. Playing it back to herself at the end of the day.

She was finally able to figure out how to stop him through thorough research. Figuring out to take vervain.

He was upset over the incident and wanted to kill her -as that's his first response to anything, but as always saint Stefan stopped him.

Elena had been there when Stefan came to help her.

Which brought on a friendship between the doppelgänger and the sugary sweetheart named Finch.

All because Elena had reached out a helping hand when Finch had been tossed to the side.

Finch slowly but surely worked her way into the save Elena squad within a year. Reconnecting with Bonnie in the process.

Eventually Niklaus Mikaelson began to make his way into town. Though that would be too simple for the mastermind that was Niklaus Mikaelson.

So he overtook the local history teacher's body that was involved with the doppelgängers aunt.

Unfortunately for him Finch was incredibly friendly with the teacher. Meaning she spent a lot of time with him. Which made Niklaus' job of pretending to be the guy much more difficult.
