Chapter 45- On The Hunt
End of the flashback, from now on it'll be the present story.
"Jungkook!"
Jungkook was smiling at me, waving his hand from the deck of the ship. He looked breathtakingly handsome wearing the blue captain uniform. His appearance made my heart race a million miles per hour. I stepped towards him with a thumping heart. He held my hand, pulling me closer to him. His hands were on my wrist while my hands snaked around his.
Jungkook's forehead softly collided with mine. He gazed at me with his usual smile. I felt like I was on cloud nine. I felt like I was the queen of the world.
He was there with me, the only one I wanted.
"I missed you so much," Jungkook's honey-like voice melted me.
"I missed you too Jungkook, I missed you so damn much, why did you leave me like that?" I whispered to his ears, cupping his cheek.
"I'm so sorry Y/n, I'll never leave you again, I'm here with you...forever..."
I suddenly opened my eyes, panting heavily like an asthma patient. Tears were welled up in my eyes. My chest went up and down fast as I started breathing fast.
I started breaking down, and my tears started falling onto my dress, making wet patches appear as I realized that it was only a dream.
"Y/n, hey hey, it's alright" Jimin scooted near me, rising from his seat. He rested my head on his chest, caressing my back to comfort me.
Light sun rays were falling through the window of the carriage. The rhythmic sound of the metal wheels collapsing with the railings. I exhaled deeply and turned slowly at the window, noticing that it was almost morning. The rays of the dawn left their kisses on our skin.
I was still on the train.
I must've dozed off during the long journey. But it wasn't a comfortable night, it was a long night. Recalled thrones of the past were wrecking me again.
Even in my dreams, the only person I saw was him, my lost lover. It took me a while to understand that it was a dream. I felt like a daze.
It felt so real... I wish it was real.
"Calm down now, it's okay Y/n," Jimin kept caressing my back.
I slowly calmed down. As I recovered and gained my senses again I brushed my messy hair back, tidying up a bit cause I looked like a mess. Jimin watched me in concern. His face was filled with worry, and his eyes were gloomy seeing how much I was suffering.
"This is why I denied y/n, You are still not recovered," I stayed quiet as he said. Jimin let out a deep sigh. He tucked pieces of my hair bangs one by one behind my ears, talking to me in a soft tone.
"You are still not late to turn back Y/n, are you sure you want to do this?" I shook my head in denial of his question.
"No Jimin, I want to do this, I can't turn back" My words were stern, I may have sounded so stubborn but Jimin didn't quarrel with me. He only gave a nod of comprehension.
"If that's what you wish Y/n," he said stroking my head.
I felt really bad about Jimin. My brother dedicated his life to me, taking care of me since the tragedy occurred. Jimin did everything he could for me. He bared with me when I had emotional breakdowns, and trauma attacks from time to time. He didn't leave me when I acted insane. He helped me recover, slowly I was regaining the light I lost. It was not the same but I was living as a normal human again.
He carried the burden of me. Jimin blamed himself for what had happened to me. He said if only he had taken better care of me, none of this would happen. Jimin cursed himself, saying it was all his fault.
Now it was time that I let him out of his burden. He didn't deserve to live a miserable life like this. I have to make things right.
After I collect the only memory remaining of Jungkook, which was a symbol of the bond between us, I intend to free Jimin. I no longer wanted him to suffer because of me.
It's time that everything should come back to normal.
"I'm so sorry Jimin, I am so sorry for all of, this," I said with a twitching pain inside that was throbbing my heart. Jimin's eyes softened, and he placed his hands on my shoulders.
"Don't be sorry Y/n, I want you to be happy, and I will do anything to make you happy " his words made my eyes watery again. He wiped my tears away from his thumb, smiling at me.
"There there now, we are close to getting down, you don't want look like that now do you?" he chuckled. I pulled him into a tight hug.
"Thank you for everything brother..."
"Of course Y/n, you are my sister, I would do anything for you," Jimin replied.
"I love you Jimin," Jimin was quiet. He hugged me back tightly.
"I love you too Y/n, my little sister"
With a loud whistle, the steam engine stopped at its destination. The funnel stopped releasing black smoke into the air as the train relaxed at the final destination. A victorious whistle blew once again, announcing to the passengers that it was their ticket to leave.
As I stepped out of the train station with Jimin, a strong blast of wind greeted us. The wind has the fresh taste of salt. That familiar scent made me realize that we weren't much further away from the shore.
That familiar breeze tickled me, giving me goosebumps.
"Come on, we should be able to catch a cart here" Jimin guided me towards the line of horse carts that were parked outside the railway station.
The drivers were enthusiastic to gain customers as a flood of people flowed through the exit of the station. Jimin walked towards a cart with two horses attached to it. The driver was a young freckled-faced boy who wore a large cap and a thick coat to protect himself from the breeze. I followed Jimin from the back.
His face lit up as he saw us approaching.
"Where to sir?" he turned and asked Jimin as we got in.
"To the harbour, and make it quick young lad, I'll pay you extra if you will be able to get there in fifteen minutes." Jimin patted his shoulder.
The boy was stimulated by his words. Extra tip would mean a whole meal for him so he was not willing to give up that golden opportunity. He lashed the horses and got them going.
"Ya, atta boy," the horses neighed and started moving. Our carriage started moving cutting through the wind at the speed of an arrow. I was getting nervous, my palms were sweating from the jittery feeling but I ignored the overwhelming nervousness.
As the carriage that carried us entered the main street, I saw the horizon ahead of us. The blue diamond-like ocean was reflecting the sunlight brightly. The moment we stepped out of the cart, the ocean breeze wrapped us. It reminded me of the day I set sail on the Titanic. It was just like this, I was filled with nervousness.
I still remember how the freshly painted words "Titanic" glistened in semi-darkness.
I heaved a heavy sigh.
Jimin stepped near me. He turned his gaze at me.
"Are you ready?" I nodded with a small smile on the corner of my lips.
"Yeah,"
The harbour was quite crowded. People were carrying heavy luggage here and there in a hurry. Energetic news reporters were running everywhere to catch the best story for their newspapers. Various kinds of people were there, the ones who stood special among them were the men who were dressed in neat expensive suits and represented the higher class.
My heart paused for a moment as I saw the wrecks of the Titanic that were dragged to the land.
The broken ceramic plates and cups, exquisite wall art that used to be hung in the dining room three years ago, jewellery, and hair ornament that once decorated the rich ladies' necks and hair are now laid there on the tables. They turned to a greyish colour because of the decay caused by salt water.
I saw the golden name tags that were put on display.
They weren't always neglected like this, once they used to shine brightly on the crew's uniforms. They belonged to people who perished three years ago. They were the symbols of the heroes who died that night.
I felt like a lump stuck inside my throat.
I walked closer to the collection of name tags. They were arranged according to the rank. My eyes stopped when I saw the badge that used to be pinned on Jungkook's navy blue uniform. The golden badge with three golden chains attached to it. My hand reached to touch it.
I held it between my palms rubbing the surface with my fingers. I smiled at it and gazed at Jimin.
"It belonged to him," I said, touching the rusty surface of the badge.
It read 'Captain Jeon Jungkook'
Jimin quietly watched me.
I placed it back where it was. It belonged there, among the others. I didn't want to take it away from it. Jungkook's name should proudly be noted there as one of the heroes, one of the best and most hard-working crew members. The young and skilful captain who was selected to sail in the Titanic.
I kept it next to the other golden badge that read 'Captain Edward J. Smith '
I gave one last glance before coming near Jimin.
"I think it was there Y/n, there's the part where they display jewellery" Jimin pointed to me a few huts a few feet away.
We went to the tent that had various types of pieces broken assocesries. Few people were gathered there, reaching out for things that interested them. I inspect the tables sharply, hoping to see the locket Jungkook gave me.
But for both my disappointment and frustration it was nowhere to be seen. All the way I came here to get it and I was not going to return until I found it.
"Let's search more Y/n, I'm sure it's somewhere here..." Jimin tried to be positive. We both started inspecting every table that had jewellery but we were on hard luck.
I was on the verge of tears as I felt that I'd lost it, once again. My face was clouded with disappointment. Jimin wasn't giving up though. He walked up to one of the organizers.
"Anything I can get for you, sir?" the man asked cheerfully. Jimin nodded.
"We are looking for a pendant, it came with a locket and the pendant has a swan shape" the staff member started thinking for a minute. After thinking for a while he suddenly snapped his finger.
"Are you looking for the locket that had a photo of a young man inside it?" I cried out of happiness.
"Yes! That's the one!" I asked with a thumping heart.
"The one had a double chain?"
"Yes!" I answered with excitement.
" Actually, you missed it only by seconds," my jaw dropped.
"Wha- what?"
"A gentleman came finding the same kind of pendant. He left only a few minutes ago." my eyes widened with disbelief. I couldn't believe that I missed it, just like that.
"What's his name? Can you please show us where he went? " Jimin was panicking more than me. His thin eyes grew widened with anticipation.
"His name is Kim Seokjin"
Things are getting interesting again, aren't they?
