Chapter 38- Breakthrough.

I had come face to face with death who was disguised as his many versions. Each time he tended to bring up different types of black magic to manipulate me to take me with him.

Death...

That moment was another time I came face-to-face with death once again.

For a thunderstruck moment, my legs refused to obey my orders. They stood glued to the place I was standing while my eyes were wide open with horror.

It was not a scenario that you would see every day. Affirmatively not every day, maybe not even once in your lifetime. And even if you did, I doubt that you would survive through to describe what it looked like.

What death looked like with his devilish little smirk cracking his face...

The tight pull of a strong hand brought me back to earth from the stun I was in.

"Y/n, Move!" Jungkook's anxious voice snapped me out of the daze. I finally was able to move my legs.

A big wave of people were running towards our direction through the passage. They were seconded by the army of rats running before them. The rodents were faster than the humans behind them, adding a plus point to the chance of survival.

But that wasn't the part that made me stop in my tracks. It was the gush of cold water that was mercilessly following behind them to swallow them. The water level must have exceeded our heights. The people, who I later got to know it was the third-class passengers that had lower deck cabins, ran to save their lives from the giant body of water that was pursuing them.

The men held women's hands, and mothers held their children, making an effort to escape the horrific fate that was soon to meet. Everyone together as a pack struggled to get to the upper water as soon as possible.

Their screams and cries echoed in the air. That weep of fear raised goosebumps in my skin. Those wails of agony were muffled by the sound of the water hitting harshly against the newly painted walls of the passage. I felt like covering both my ears with my palms so I wouldn't hear that blood-curdling sound.

"Y/n!Love, we have to go! Do you hear me?" Jungkook turned me to him and shook me hard to regain my senses. I glance at him with a bloodless face.

"We have to go, now!" he said in a lower soft tone. I gazed at his face filled with commitment. I remember what he said earlier.

"You are going to survive this Y/n, I promise that..."

I gripped his hand tightly and nodded. He understood my gestures and didn't spare another second to stay there. We started running away from the flood behind us. Jungkook had his strong grip on me, not letting go of my hand. I even forgot to breathe. My legs were tripping while trying to run in the water but I didn't bother to stop.

How could I stop?

While running I turned to catch a glimpse of the mess behind us.

Boy, I wish I never did that.

Some of them were fast enough to run in the front and save their dear lives, but it was hard luck for the people in the back. They were submerged in the giant body of water, and not allowing them to see another daylight. The unfortunate souls were victims of the merciless gushes.

My heart clenched with agony as I saw a mother who was holding an infant at the very back hopelessly trying to trespass and give her newly born son a chance to live. He hadn't even started to see the world with his eyes yet destiny was cruel enough to decide not to give him a chance of survival.

He never saw the light of the world after that because the woman who was holding him tripped and fell in the middle of a herd who was desperately pushing each other, moving forward as fast as they could. She couldn't get up from her position nor did anyone bother to help them.

Falling in the middle of that makes your survival chances go low to greater levels. That one wrong move made them both pay for their lives.

She knew it was the last moment he was breathing. She held onto him tightly with teary eyes and kissed her baby before getting swallowed by the cold water.

I panted fast with heart-clenching agony and fear. My cheeks were wet with tears that were uncontrollably streaming down.

I turned, not looking back again. I kept running forward with a heavy heart.

You run, you live. You stop, you die.

I kept running with him,

Jungkook suddenly stopped in his tracks making me bump into his body. His eyes widened while staring at the front view ahead of us.

"Oh fuck," those words slipped from my mouth without even thinking when I saw the wooden white door in the corner holding into the pressure of the giant mass of water that was on the opposite side of the door. It could blast open any moment.

A man behind us, who was a fast runner caught up with us. But he didn't stop, he kept running towards the danger.

"No! Stop! That's dangerous!" both I and Jungkook started warning him, screaming at the top of our lungs. But our voices faded with the big rumble sounds in the background.  He couldn't hear our warning.

The unfortunate soul was greeted with a gush of water as the door blasted open when he arrived. The wooden door cracked to pieces, allowing the water to flow in. Ultimately the bottom of the Atlantic became his resting place. The water didn't stop there, it came for more victims, and if we didn't move fast it was obvious that we would face the same fate as he did.

"There, climb up," Jungkook pushed me towards the staircase that was a few feet away.

We both started climbing up with all the strength we got. The rest of the passengers who survived were following us from behind. We were lucky enough to reach the top before the water could dominate us. But that was only to meet another hectic situation up there.  The upper floor was crowded with passengers, they were third-class.  Apparently,  the word of the Titanic hitting an iceberg had caused a blizzard down there.

All of them were directed towards the main gate that was locked from outside. Through the grills of the gate, I caught sight of the two officers who were trying to manage the situation. People were blurting out objections, raising questions of why they were not letting them out.

Jungkook held my hand and squeezed through the crowd to reach the front saw he could see what was going on. We both were soaked from the waist to down.  The freezing fractals were making me shudder, or maybe it was the fear that made me shiver at that time.

"Those bastards! Why aren't they letting us out? It's fucking flooding down there!" a man threw his hands with rage, barking at one of the officer's faces.

The young man dressed in the blue uniform answered the man reluctantly.  I felt that he was talking with a guilt that was eating up with him.

"Calm down sir, right after they are finished loading them we will take you guys out, until then, please remain calm-"

"Remain calm! Remain calm?" he sneered with a loud laughter.

"Should we remain calm until we drown here huh?" the man reached the young officer's collar through the drill and violently shook him.

"It's flooding down here, please let us out," an older, and much wise-looking man tried to soothe the situation without bringing brutality to the already dire situation we were in.

"Please, we have women and children down here,  you can't do this," another voice, an oddly familiar voice added to the other man's words with the agreement. I couldn't see him through the crowd but I knew that voice.

The officer shrugged the man's hands and threw a punch at the man who was grasping him, making the man throw a few feet away. He painfully groaned,  holding his broken nose bridge.

"Wait for the goddamn orders! Until the orders are given you all stay here!" he shouted, his face was scary like a demon with anger. Jungkook clenched his jaws with frustration.

The punch made the men provoked. It was a wrong move, unquestionably.  It made the situation ten times worse than it was. People from the back started pushing, the front line collided with the gates. They started banging at the gates furiously,  trying to break free.

A familiar face approached us.

"Taehyung," I cried out as he came near us. He looked surprised to see us down with them.

"Y/n, Jungkook, what are you both doing down here?"  his face was filled with amusement.  It rang me the bell, it was his voice that I heard previously,  it was Taehyung who tried to talk and made an effort to let us out.

"It was him again," Jungkook answered with a darkened tone. Taehyung understood the trepidation inside the words and nodded.

"Did you try the other gate? Is it locked as well?" Jungkook asked the other male. He sighed with frustration.  Taehyung's body was only covered with the old vintage suit he usually wore, nothing to protect him from the cold.

"I did, but it's no use, all of them are blocked."

"Those heartless bastards, why the fuck are they taking this long?" Jungkook muttered, biting his lower lip. He turned to me to give me a gaze of comfort.

He was scared too, but he was doing his utmost best to ensure my safety.

The three of us moved to a corner to avoid the crush from the crowd. Jungkook was in deep thought for a moment,  thinking hard of a way to escape. Taehyung ruffled his hair, frustratingly trying to think of a way as well. Jungkook finally looked like he made up his mind.

" There's only one way,"

As his voice aroused both me and Taehyung looked at him curiously.

"That is...?" I glanced at him. He looked with a persistent gaze.

"Breakthrough,"

After a long time, I know. I am busy since my exams are coming up soon. I'll be updating frequently like before after April first. I'll try to give one more update before that though.

I hope everyone is safe and sound. Missed y'all, love you.
Stay gold.
