Chapter 33- Boom Of Doom

Third person POV;

Lookouts Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee began their watch in the Titanic's crow's nest. The night was unusually calm, making icebergs more difficult to see because no waves were breaking at the icebergs.

"Bloody hell, it's freezing" Reginald rubbed his palms and huffed cold air to produce body heat.

He was right, indeed the night was making their bodies shudder. Even the thick coats they were wearing couldn't help the chilliness.

"Didn't they find the key to the binoculars yet?" he again asked the other guy who was lighting up a cigarette, tagging at the closed locker. The binoculars were stacked there, unable to be used because it was locked.

"Mm-hmm, Nope, not yet mate. No one abroad had the key with them. They say that David had the keys," Fleet answered, puffing a cloud of smoke into the air. His cheeks were becoming rosy shade because of the cold.

"David? You mean Blair?" Reginald raised his eyebrows with surprise. The other man nodded in response.

"Isn't he off the board though?"

"Yeah, he is. He reassigned before we started sailing" Fleet held the cigarette between his middle finger and the index finger, gazing at the far horizon.

"Blimey..." Reginald also joined his mate and set his gaze on the front view.

There was silence between them for a while.

"I can't wait till she docks," Fleet said, diving into deep thoughts. His crewmate playfully nudged him by his elbow.

"What's that for eh? Waiting to meet someone special?" Reginald cocked his eyebrows at him with a mischievous grin. The other guy chuckled.

"It's been almost a year since I last saw my beautiful wife's face." suddenly Fleet's face smeared with emotional expressions. His jaws clenched together as his lips formed into a thin line with a small yet bitter smile.

"She was pregnant when I left her. My son must have been born by now," he said, looking above them at the glistening stars at the far. Reginald stood quietly and listened to his fellow.

"I always wanted a son. A strong boy who will one day sail on mighty ships just like me. I wanted to name our son Jack." he chuckled thinking about his adorable baby boy who he hadn't even seen yet.

He couldn't wait to hold his baby boy in his hands and sing for him. Fleet was overwhelmed with so many thoughts about his family. His wife Cora must be waiting for him until he appears on the front of their doorstep, giving her a tight hug.

"I'm sure that our young Jack will grow up just like his father." Reginald placed his palm on the other masculine's shoulder, giving it a light squeeze. Fleet smiled, eyes gazing at the ocean filled with expectancies.

He slid his hand into his pocket and pulled out a small baby toy. It was a colorful little thing. It made a cute noise as it rattled.

"I bought this from the Canary Islands just for my little Jack," he said gleefully before carefully placing the toy where it was.

Reginald heaved a long breath and again drew his attention to the work they were doing. The night was tranquil and dark. It was difficult to see far and without the help of the binoculars it was even tougher but they both were doing their best.

"Boy, I wish I had someone waiting for me. Oh, of course except the rats in my attic." his words made the other man burst into laughter. It lightened up the mood more than before.

"I'm worried that what Captain Jeon said might be true." he again said leaning to the fence.

"Me too..." an ominous silence haunted them.

Suddenly Fleet spotted a glimpse of a shadow. But it wasn't very clear to his eyes. He tiptoed and leaned forward to get a better look at it.

"What is it?" Reginald noticed the apprehension of his fellow crewmate. He was alerted by something.

"I think I saw something, like a big shadow..."

"Let me see," the other guy slightly pushed Fleet and winced his eyes to get a view of what was ahead.

The blurred vision cleared as the ship moved further. Reginald's mouth gasped in horror as he witnessed the gigantic iceberg on their way. At the same time, Fleet also saw what was coming ahead. Tension whirled the air.

"Holy shit!" he yelped.

Reginald rushed towards the emergency bell and started ringing the bridge to proclaim.

"Iceberg, right ahead!"

Back to Y/n's POV,

We broke the kiss as we suddenly felt a harsh movement underneath us. The walls and the wooden floor underneath us started vibrating. The window glasses started shaking because of a hasty impact.

I held Jungkook's hand tightly.

We weren't sure what happened. The surroundings were too dark to catch a glimpse of any sight. A jerky sound creaked loudly. The intense keen sound was hurting my ears.

"Oh my god!" Jungkook exclaimed, glancing at the view ahead of us.

It was a massive iceberg that we were passing. The ship's right side torso was scrapped because of the collision. Big chunks of ice fell onto the ship deck as it scratched along with the big ice mountain.

"Get back Y/n!" Jungkook pushed me behind him, covering behind him. My hands clutched his shirt, peering at the massive mass of ice that we were passing by.

Some of the crowd had started coming out of the halls to check what caused the impulsive movement they felt just a while ago. They started gathering in the deck. A buzz dispersed as they started whispering to each other with confusion and curiosity.

"Was that an iceberg?" a well-dressed man asked his fellow. They were standing a few feet away from us.

"I'm not certain. It seems that something hit her," the other man's words were unsure.

But I knew what I saw. It was a humongous iceberg that we just encountered. The white crystal-like frozen fractions shined even in the dark. The low booming noise faded as the Titanic sailed away from the white mountain.

"Did it hit?" I asked Jungkook. He shook his head, gazing at me, concerned about the collision.

"I'm not sure, love..." his voice was smeared with uncertainty.

Pieces of broken ice were lying down on the deck, scattered everywhere. People started closening towards them like they had found amusing objects.

"Come on," Jungkook gestured me to follow him.

He walked to the edge and leaned down on the railing, peering at the bottom of the ship. It was dark but the bulbs and the chandeliers that were hanging flashed a good amount of glimmer.

I followed Jungkook and looked down the railing.

"It looks fine, I can't see well though. " He said, glancing at me. I bit my lower lip insecure about about what happened.  I saw the worry inside his eyes, alarmed by the wreck.

"She must have hit the starboard," he said further, trying to catch a glimpse of anything that was threatening.

The passengers were crowding the deck. Even the people who were sleeping put on their thick coats and came out, rubbing the sleepiness away from their eyes.

"What is happening?"

"What was that?"

"I heard something..."

"I saw the iceberg,"

"It was a bloody iceberg,  I saw it with my own eyes,"

The anxious chatter filled the air with its buzz.  They started assuming and talking about their conclusions about what happened.

A female figure appeared from the hall of the first-class dining room. The woman was wearing a black fur coat to protect herself from the cold. Her round face was familiar. She stepped towards us as she spotted me and Jungkook on the deck.

It was Margaret Brown, who was well-known as Molly Brown. I remembered her as we had met each other during the dinner with the Harpers.

"Son, do you have any idea of what is going on? " she queried Jungkook. Her chubby cheeks were gushed with red because of the good amount of wine she had earlier.

"You are Captain Jeon aren't you?" Jungkook nodded in response.

"It seems like an iceberg hit her. I'll go and check about that. Please remain calm and stay alert." He assured the lady. She nodded, acquiescing with him.

" Please, do so..."

Jungkook and I walked to the inner cabins to reach Captain Smith. The crew members seemed panicked. They quickly ran here and there, giving orders and trying to keep the situation as stable as possible.

We walked to a door, which was labeled with a golden color plaque. As we entered, we met with a man who was weighing his head on his palm with a concerned look on his face. Before we could speak to him two men charged inside the room.

"Captain!" Jungkook gazed at Captain Smith as his figure appeared from the door.

"Jeon..." his voice was dry and faded. He then eyed the man who raised from his seat as we came.

"She hit it didn't she?" Andrews was anxious.  His face was smeared with nervousness. Captain Smith quietly nodded as an answer.

"She hit the starboard and the right side under the sea level, she's scrapped..."

I know you all are anxious. So am I lol, let's see what will happen next.
