Chapter 22- The Unsinkable Ship
The morning light rays touched my pale skin with their warm soothing touches. But rather than the warmth of the sun, I feel some other sensation on my body. The heat of a muscular arm wrapping my body from behind. His chest was rhythmically going up and down at the same rate as mine. I slowly shift my body to the other side, trying not to wake him up.
"Jungkook..."
I softly whispered and pressed my lips against his forehead, sweeping away his fallen ebony locks.
With the fallen rays of the sun, his milky skin shone brightly. His big doe eyes were tightly closed at that time as he was deeply drifted to his Dreamland. He was sleeping like a baby.
Beneath us, it was only a thick blanket. His bare chest with rock-hard abs were visible to me. They reminded me of the last episodes of the previous night we had.
My lips twitched to a smile as I recalled the pleasurable experience I had last night.
It was sweet, romantic and erotic. It was the night I lost my virginity to a man. But did I regret it? Hell no, I was happy that it was Jeon Jungkook who I lost it to.
He was the first man to love me, he was the first man to trust me, and he was the first to touch me in that way.
My mind was submerged in deep thoughts before they were shattered by a low groan from Jungkook. After wincing his eyes, he peeks at me for a glimpse with a smile on his face.
"Did you sleep well ?" He asked as he pulled me closer to his body.
I had only a big shirt covering me to protect me from the cold. The surroundings were getting colder and colder as we were sailing to the middle of the Atlantic. My body was raised by goosebumps because of the chill. But less than I cared about the cold because of the gorgeous man I was embracing at that moment.
A pink tinted my cheeks his arms wrapped around me.
"Better than ever "
"Me too Y/n" he rested his head up on mine as I nuzzled into his chest. We stayed like that for a moment. Neither of us talked but we both knew that we felt safe in that position, embracing each other. The air in the room was filled with silent chatter of deep allure.
It was a matter of time before Jungkook had to report back to work. Soon after a shower and a short breakfast, he was ready to go.
"Today there's a special arrangement to be made, I would like it if you join me" he held my hand and gazed at me.
I couldn't help but notice the stir of worries lying deep inside his eyes.
I furrowed my brows with confusion and stared at him, trying to sense the grief he was concealing.
"You are worried, I can feel it" he let a small smile creep to his lips. The warmth of his lips gently mooched my cheek.
"It's nothing I promise, this is just a precaution to ensure our passenger's safety. I want you to grasp everything carefully..." He paused for a moment and stuck his orbs outside the window at the faraway horizon.
"Just in case" he ceases his sentence with a faded voice, almost turning it to a whisper. His sudden behaviour held me in worry.
"What is this Jungkook? Why are you worried?" My hands enfolded his big palm. His gaze shifted to me, I saw how soft they got as he looked at me. He suddenly pulled me into a surprising kiss.
My eyes widened with astound with his not so foreseen act but I gave in. I kissed him back, melting with his delicacy. His free palm was caressing my cheek while the other remained intact with my hand.
"You have to promise me something Y/n" he cupped my face with both his palms. My hand rested upon one of his hands, assuring him that I certainly would do anything for him.
"Ask me anything, anything at all Jungkook"
"If something bad happens, if you'll have to leave me to save your life you'll have to do it, do you understand what I'm saying Y/n?"
I stood frozen by his words. I felt like my heart was pierced by thousands of daggers. A large lump was stuck inside my throat that made me unable to talk.
" What are you saying Jungkook? I can't leave you, I won't leave you..." I firmly said, I could feel my eyes swelling up but I didn't care, I couldn't promise him to leave him. I certainly won't do that.
"You have to !" I never heard Jungkook talking that harshly. For a moment I was stunned by how cold he sounded.
I breathed heavily without knowing what to say. After everything we had between us why does he want me to leave him if "something bad happens"?
What did he possibly mean by something bad?
"Look, love," he softly talked, holding my hands together and taking them closer to his chest.
"You are more precious to me than anything, you are the most important person to me in this world. My priority is to keep you safe " he placed a peck on my forehead.
His hands reached my neck to pull out the locket he gave me.
"Do you remember the promise you made me that day?" I slowly nodded to his question.
"You have to keep that promise Y/n," I heaved deeply and looked into his doe eyes.
"Then you have to make a promise too "
"What is it?"
"Whatever it takes, you can't leave me, you can't say goodbye, you have to come back to me" he stared into my orbs for a long time before finally agreeing with a smile along with a nod.
"I promise, I won't leave you"
Even though I had his word of assurance the fear of losing him ghosted me. For some unknown reason, it haunted me and sent chills down my spine.
While we were walking on the deck his words were echoing inside my head.
If something bad happens, if you'll have to leave me to save your life you'll have to do it,
Those words kept bothering me. I didn't even notice that Jungkook was calling my name until a small pat on my arm brought me to reality.
"Y/n?"
"Hmm?"
"Were you listening?" Jungkook turned at me. His eyebrows knitted with a worried look.
"I'm sorry I was distracted" I mumbled. He clearly understood why I was so deep in my thoughts.
"Y/n," he turned my chin up at him. "It was only to guarantee your safety," he said with a smile. The lightness in that smile was just enough to take off the burden I had. I drifted my attention to the lifeboats he was showing me, shredding away the ill thoughts I was having.
The crew was getting ready for a drill.
Yeah you heard me right, they were getting ready for a lifeboat drill. It was conducted according to Captain Smith's orders. It was a test to ensure the capacity of the boats.
"Here you are Jeon, I see you have brought company" Captain Smith gleefully said, flashing a grin at both of us.
"I hope you won't mind her tagging along, I wanted to show her how things were operated," Jungkook said holding my hand. The captain shook his head.
"Of course not, I'm delighted to have her company " he replied enthusiastically.
The crew were busy untying the ropes and lowering them to the ocean. Jungkook took me to the edge carefully so I could get a better view of what they were up to.
The boats were lowering down according to the captain's order, and they were being tested on the deep ocean. Sure enough, the enormous boats were well-floating. I could still smell the fresh paint of the boats that hadn't even been touched by the humans until that very time.
Ship drills were done as precautions for an emergency. All of the crew obeyed Jungkook's orders. He smoothly handled the situation, safely letting the boats down. The wanted instructions were given to them as part of the practice session.
"How many of those are there?" I questioned with curiosity. They looked like they could take around seventy people on each.
"Twenty lifeboats. Fourteen wooden standard lifeboats which you see down there, they can carry 65 people in each." Jungkook then tilted his head towards another set of boats which were a little different in appearance than the ones they were launching at that time.
"These are Englehardt collapsible boats. We have four of them. And two more emergency clutters, forty-seven in each four boats and around forty in the two emergency boats. "
"Jungkook," he turned at me as I spoke.
"How many passengers are abroad ?" He dived into thoughts for a moment.
" Around 2223 passengers including the ship crew, I assume "
"Do you mind me asking a question?"
"Of course not, what is it?"
"If I'm not mistaken, there aren't enough lifeboats for all the passengers am I right?" I said in a quiet voice. Jungkook heaved a sigh and nodded.
"I fear that you are right about it. The boats can take up to only 1178 passengers. " My lips formed a thin line.
"That's barely exceeding half of the number of passengers. " Before Jungkook could answer me, another familiar voice interrupted the air.
"Fear not my dear Y/n," I turned my head to meet the cheerful presence of Captain Edwards Smith.
"I was not eavesdropping, I happened to hear the conversation you had with him. You are a quick-witted girl my dear" My heart flattered with his compliment. I sheepishly grinned at him. I could see Jungkook smiling from the back.
"Do you know that this ship is called the Ship of Dreams?" I shook in denial. I possibly couldn't have known it, have I? I was a runaway rebel.
Ship of dreams...
For me it truly was a ship of dreams, it was the reason that led me to Jungkook.
" She's also called another name Y/n, do you know what is that?" Captain Smith queried me. He didn't wait for me to answer his question.
" It's called the unsinkable ship."
"The Unsinkable Ship?" I repeated his words. He nodded.
"This ship is a legend, the biggest floating object made by mankind yet. What makes it more special is that this ship is unsinkable" Captain Smith said, I looked into Jungkook's eyes who was gazing at me.
Was this ship truly unsinkable?
Was there nothing to worry about?
Shit,
I took so long to update I know 😃
