Chapter 14- Folk Party
"Mr and Mrs Harper, I think it's time that I should take my leave. It was my pleasure spending this wonderful evening with you fine people" Jungkook stood up from where he was seated and brushed his stiffened tuxedo. He gave me a quick gesture with his eyes.
Taking his hint, I also stood up to bid farewell.
Juliet Harper arched an eyebrow at me. " Are you going to leave as well, Miss Park?" She questioned me. With a slight nod, I greeted her.
"It's getting late Mrs Harper, and I'm so grateful that you invited me here tonight. It was truly a great supper" Mrs Brown gave me a reassuring smile saying, "Oh darling, it was wonderful knowing you too isn't it Juliet?"
"Indeed," Juliet gazed at me with a curving smile in the corner of her rosy lips. "And if you need anything, anything at all, don't hesitate to come near me Y/n" She placed a hand on my shoulder and gave a light squeeze.
We both made our way out from all the luxury and silk-stoking residences and welcomed the breeze that wrapped us.
The environment was so cold that I puffed some air and rubbed my hands together to keep me warm. The coldness meant that we are far away from land, middle of the Atlantic. Jungkook blew a cloud of cold air into the atmosphere and wrapped his hands around his body.
"It's freezing here, come on let's go" his cold hand gripped mine before tugging me towards a passage. I was dragged along with him.
"Jungkook! Where are we going"
"I promise, you'll love it" As I felt his touch my heart fluttered with the weird sensation. We stopped near a door that opened to a staircase which led us downwards. My mind was running wild with thoughts.
What is that he's going to show me?
Jungkook only mischievously grinned at my questions, keeping it a top secret. He was like a small kid who was excited to show a huge sandcastle he built. As we took our steps down I heard loud laughter and cheers that scattered the air along with funky music, unlike the slow music that played in the ballroom, it gave an energetic vibe.
"Come on" Jungkook practically jumped the two last stairs and quickly grabbed my waist with both his hands to pull me down. I screeched with his sudden action but he carefully kept me down, giggling childishly. I couldn't help but find that adorable.
I almost squished his cheeks but thankfully my brain was conscious enough not to act as a dumbass.
Jungkook's actions were quicker than a blink of an eye, before even my brain could function he pushed me through the crowd to the middle.
The people who attended there were different. Previously I got a chance to see what it was like to be a ranked person, I got a glimpse of the deluxe they lived every day.
But now
It was a hall filled with locals. They were the party that was known as the third class, aka the ones who didn't own that much wealth and all but they had one thing that was missing in those I met before.
Happiness
Sentimental and joyful jibber-jabber continued to fill the air with its jingles of merry.
Freedom
Unlike those who forced themselves to mask their faces with phoney smiles that absolutely didn't mean for real, these people had genuine smiles twisted in the corner of their lips. They looked exhausted yes...they wore ragged clothes and didn't own themselves their piece of lands everywhere, yes...
But under that weariness endless boundaries of freedom made them look less pathetic than so-called "High ranked people"
Women and men were joyfully dancing on the floor, it wasn't a slow dance either. They were hyped as they were in their high. In another corner, some of them played folk music with a beat that your feet resist to stay controlled. Not only adults but even juveniles were charged. They joyfully chimed in as the loud music started playing.
I glanced at the man who dragged me here into this beautiful chaos. He looked like he was enjoying himself already. It was only a second before he appeared in front of me with two cocktails. Jungkook handed me one and called me,
"And this is how you start a real party!" He winked at me before gulping down the whole thing just in one go. I parted my mouth with amusement. He urged me,
"Come on now your turn Miss Park, let's go with one sip since it's your first time." his teasing-toned voice made me chuckle.
"Oh, you think I can't drink Mister Jeon?" I cocked my eyebrow at him with a smirk before gulping the alcoholic liquid. I could feel the strong liquor passing down my oesophagus, burning my throat. Jungkook looked at me with amazement before clapping.
"And now ladies and gentlemen is the time for the endless loop of dancing. The dance floor is open for you!" An enthusiastic voice arose from the stage. The skinny man with freckles started playing his mouth organ before a whole band of folks started playing hyped rhythms with upbeat music.
I watched people gather around to dance. Jungkook removed his upper coat and placed it on the table. A white shirt along with a brown colour cross belt covered his upper body. He rolled his sleeves up to his elbow before stretching his veiny hand to me.
"Come on, let's dance" I abruptly shook my head in denial.
"I can't dance Jungkook, it's not in my nature" he frowned his face at me. "You don't have to know, just go with the rhythm, watch me" he started dancing with a woman near him, who gladly joined him in dance. They both danced super fast that I couldn't even catch a single move. I laughed seeing the funny moves Jungkook made before they finished dancing for the song. He greeted the lady with a joyful smile before getting down the stage near me.
"See that's not that bad," he said, trying to get me to dance. But I shrugged. I couldn't embarrass myself in front of him with my sloppy moves. Jungkook wasn't a guy to give up though.
"I'll teach you come on" he climbed up again before pulling me up. I was having a panic attack while deep down my heart was urging me to join him. I didn't have a choice at that moment.
I put one of my hands on his shoulder. He chuckled.
"We have to get closer than that" Without warning he grabbed my wrist and pulled my body closer to his, making my breath hitched. His other hand held my free one tangling his fingers with mine. My chest went up and down fast as I breathed deeply, looking into his tempting lips and seductive eyes.
What am I even thinking? I mentally slapped my mind.
He held one of my hands up in the air with the dancing position and slid the other hand around my waist. "Just go with the flow" he started dancing, making me dance to who was screaming at the top of my lungs.
"Jungkook! I can't dance!" But my words were almost unheard because of the loud music. People around us were brushing past us dancing according to the tune that is played. Most of them looked like they were pros at this.
"I can't hear you!" Jungkook screamed back, half laughing, probably enjoying the song that was played. I couldn't help but laugh, trying to dance along with his speedy moves. My hand was gripping his torso tightly as he started spinning with me.
"Ahh!" I let out a lofty cry, grabbing him tightly. I have to admit that I was having fun with him. More fun than I ever had in the past few years.
As the music changed, he let go of me, performing a solo dance with tapping his heels. I watched him and removed the shoes I was wearing and tossed them away. They were giving terrible torture to my feet. I tried to imitate Jungkook's moves, I was successful yet in the last part I tripped. Jungkook caught me in time before I landed in my face. He held my hand and spun me, doing those ironic moves in a couple of dances, pressing me against his hard chest again.
"Not bad Y/n, not bad at all" he gleefully said.
We both were laughing like kindergartens, filling the air with giggles and jokes, I was over the moon, feeling so light like a feather.
Those hours I spent with him were the most memorable moments I can't erase from my mind until today.
Jungkook's hair was all messy, his short black bangs stuck to his forehead with sweat. Not to mention mine had my loose bun fallen to my shoulders, it could barely be named as a bun anymore. We both were panting but didn't drop our smiles even though we were exhausted. A man pass walked us, holding a tray of beer cans. I stopped him and took two beers, handing one to Jungkook.
" Where did you learn all those? You got some sweet moves" I asked, breaking the lid of the can, trying to tidy my messy hair.
"Well when I was training, we had lots of those folk parties. The crew and the fellows get together and get drunk, dance the whole night and then pass out " he said, looking at the crowd with shiny eyes.
"Don't they look so happy? So free?" He asked me, motioning his head towards them. I agreed.
"They sure do, well more than me"
Jungkook turned to me as I said. "What's your story Y/n? What brings you here?" For a moment my heart stopped with his query. If I tell him, will he freak out? Will he hand me to the cops and send me to jail?
I shuddered with that thought.
"Well it's a long story" I heaved a heavy sigh. "For the record, I'm a sore loser" I lightly chuckled. Jungkook's doe eyes were filled with concern like he wanted to cherish me.
"You know, as someone great once said, what's important is who you are at the present, not who you were in the past" the ebony-haired guy said, making a serious face and narrating with a melodramatic voice. He never failed to make me laugh.
"And who's that great one you mentioned?"
"Jeon Jungkook aka me" we both burst into laughter. He gazed at me.
"Did you have fun tonight?" I nodded, "A lot"
His smile was bright enough to lift my mood. It was like rain in the desert to my weary and dire life. His eyes were deep and beautiful like the ocean.
When we both headed outside, I espied the billions of stars lighting up the sky like fallen pisky dust on a thick robe. Shades of moonlight shadowed us, welcoming both of us under its warmth. With the light falling on Jungkook's face, I gazed at him, for a long time, while his eyes were set up in the sky, reflecting the beam of the stars. His lips held a small smile that left him at any cost.
After a long time, I felt safe near someone.
He was a stranger at first, but there was something that urged my heart to believe that I could embrace myself between his arms. He could save me.
He saved my life once...
Maybe he saved me more than once, he helped me to break free from the cage I was imprisoned.
That night I realized something.
Maybe I was feeling safe to be consoled by him.
Maybe I was falling for him.
Kinda a long chapter 😅 hope you liked it. Lol I felt like writing a romantic chapter so here we are. Day by day their bond will become stronger, but the question is where will things end? Will Y/n follow her heart or keep herself paced away from everyone like she planned before?
Let's see what will happen. Oh also have you guys guessed what happened to Beom Hyun who was chasing her ? Did she truly escape him?
Well let's find out loll, see you guys in the next chapter.
