~GIWA~

"Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!"

I jolted awake the next morning, alarmed and scared out of my mind as Prissy's brain shattering scream slammed into me.

"Jesus!" I exclaimed, jumping right out of bed and rushing over to her bed side adrenaline pumping in my bloodstreams.

"Prissy, what! What is it!" I shouted.

However, I calmed instantly when I saw her. Not just her, but also Chika and her friends, gathering in a circle, on Prissy's bed and looking excitedly, wide-eyed, into their phones.

"I told you you were going to wake Giwa up with all that noise," an unbothered Shade was typing away at her phone, sitting there on her own bed.

"What's going on?" I had to ask these girls.

Prissy and the girls announced the news to me.

"TRIPLE-J IS COMING TO OUR PROM!!!!!"

My eyes grew wide as saucers and my mouth dropped.

Impossible.

But apparently, that was the news that the ENTIRE set was on about the whole day. It flew around on Whatsapp statuses, IG stories and so on. Dozens of classmates kept tweeting and retweeting, commenting and showing appreciation on their posts, sharing and sharing and sharing everything that had to do with the Triple-J, showing up for our prom.

I didn't believe it, till I did. Prissy kept showing me their tweet about it, this morning. And how Shade's handle was mentioned in it.

"It wasn't that hard getting them to come," Shade told us. "Those boys are my babies."

We laughed.

I spent the entire day with my girls. Together, me, Shade, and Krisdana, we all visited Mum and Nini at their guest house, but mum bluntly refused for us to stay with them.

"Go. Go. Hang out with your classmates. You're going to be seeing me till I turn grey, don't be here with me." Mum kept telling us as she shusshed us, and indirectly sent us away from her room.

She told us that Lola promised to be there to help us with our grad preparation tommorrow, and Lord knows, I was more than ecstatic to have her over.

Atleast, mum allowed us to take Nini with us for a while, and we all went out in Shade's limo, and had brunch together... However, Nini preferred to stay with those friends of hers' afterwards... Jasmine and Melody, and we respected that.

Time flew with a shocking speed and each second of the day was worthwhile. Worth it.. I honestly wished the day was longer for us all. Each hour that passed brought us closer to prom.. it was something to look forward to.. but then thinking about how much closer it was to graduation, and then having to part ways with everyone.... I wasn't sure I was ready yet.

We made the most of the day. We went shopping. Shade sponsored. We visited places we hadn't been to, we went for sight seeing, we took pictures, went shopping again. Went live, went shopping again.... We did a lot of shopping that day.

It was in the evening when we were about returning back to the Centre, that a message popped into my mum, instantly getting me so curious.

It was from mum.

I looked at it and opened it to see, wondering what she'd want to tell me, after chasing me and my friends away.

"I'm so proud of you, baby. We have good news to share to you tommorow, on your graduation day. But for now, Enjoy your prom. And say hi to that boy you like. The mixed race star player and academic scholar❤️"

I couldn't stop smiling at the message in my phone, and it was only until Krisdana had tapped me that I realised we had already gotten to the Centre and we needed to leave the limo.

I requested they stopped me in a nearby classroom, as I discovered that there were the only quiet places in this entire venue, at the moment. They obliged, thankfully not asking me what for. I needed to call Mum and hear her voice. I needed to thank her for such a sweet message. And ofcourse, accepting that I had a nosy part of me, I also wanted to find out what this 'good news' she was talking about, was.

I walked into the first classroom. A peacefully quiet one, already dialling Mum's number, while at it, but stopped dead on my tracks almost immediately I stepped in.

There she was.

That strange girl again. What's her name again? Yes, Dabeluchi! Dabi.

Yes, the same one I had sworn I hadn't understood. The one in Chika's clique who acted more secluded, anti-social and less jumpy than the rest, on a norm. But then, the same one who crazy rumors of crazy things committed were sparked up against her. The same girl who took lead at nearly all the dances, feigned confidence and all, then suddenly mellowed and acted closed off again, afterward.

Yes, I'm talking about the same girl who I saw twerking on her boyfriend, one minute. Sitting and hugging her knees, quietly the next minute. Then, suddenly there on stage again, confidently dancing with him and destroying the crowd, then getting all closed off again.

I had walked in on her backstage, the night before, after the Entertainment Night. I mean, she danced like a beautifully possessed person on that stage, then was suddenly all shy and quiet again backstage, even when everyone was hyping her up and congratulating her.

"Hello, Dabeluchi." I had said to her, when I concluded that she wasn't going to speak or utter a word to me that night.

She blinked at me and her eyes went wide, mouth, slightly dropped open.

"Hello?" I repeated.

"Er.. Er.." She had stammered and I had frowned in confusion, wondering if something caught her tongue.

"You're.. You're talking to me," she had stammered, shocked, placing a hand on her chest and raising her brows at me.

"Yes." I had replied curtly, an eyebrow, still raised at her strange behavior.

"I..I..You know my name. I..I didn't know you knew my name..." She stuttered again, aghast.

I really didn't understand the girl.

At the moment, she was sitting alone, on a seat in the last row, quietly staring into the air, observing nothingness with absolute attention, and talking to herself, in low, inaudible whispers. I mean, she was having a full on conversation... But with no one.

Jesus Christ..

The girl was even oblivious to the fact that I had walked in.

"Dabi?" I called.

She jumped, gasped, nearly screamed, taken unawares by my presence and I couldn't help, but stare at her strangely.

"Who are you talking to?" I asked her.

She blinked at me. "What?"

"Who are you talking to?" I asked again.

She suddenly looked tensed up by my question, fundled with the twists on her hair, and just muttered. "Them."

My head scattered.

God forbid..

The speed I used to launch myself out of the class was unbelievable.

However, I barely left the door of the class before I bumped into a tall figure, colliding myself with hard body. I felt strong hands, wrap around me immediately in alarm, holding me tight and successfully stopping me from hitting the ground.

I held on the the pleasant, warm strong hands, breathing heavily, as I tried to control my heart beat.

"Woah, are you okay?" Ivandor asked me, holding me still in his arms, as I pressed a hand to my chest, and pressed my head against his'.

I nodded, catching my breath, thankful to him for being there to catch my fall.

That Dabeluchi girl... God knows something was wrong with her...

"You look like you just saw a ghost." Ivandor commented and I paused and glared up at him after sensing the humor in his tone.

And I was right, he was laughing at me.

"Oh, shut up," I punched his arm and my God, I punched a brick.

"Ow!" I winced, shoving him immediately and he just threw his head back and laughed.

I couldn't help but laugh too. One thing was for sure. Ivandor was doing something to his body. I had noticed he looked bigger yesterday and I wondered if it was just me. I was certain it wasn't now. He probably took his work out sessions to another level.

Anyways, I ended up talking longer than I intended to with him and accidentally spending more time than I wanted to, and most especially, forgetting my aim for even coming in here in the first place.

Ivandor and I leaned by the protector railing, talking about the most random things. I gisted him how the girls had talked me into getting rid of my kinky braids and coming back to school with weaves instead. I told him about what we did today, what we ate, and I showed him the pictures we took as well.

He told me how he, Nova and Yure went hunting for prom outfits, just a minute ago. Talk about last minute hustles. He told me about how he had developed a mini headache from all the noise, and he most especially, couldn't get Aaron's voice, screaming his surname, out of his head.

He also told me he was looking forward to Prom. I told him I was too. I mean, that was literally the highlight of my day. The one thing I couldn't stop thinking about.

.. spending Prom with Ivandor

We eventually met up with the girls after about an hour of talking, and they nearly had our heads for it.

"Imagine oo!" That was Krisdana. "So, that's why you left us here, waiting for you!"

They, couincidentally, happened to be with Yure and Nova, and I was guessing the boys may have been waiting for Ivandor too.

Oops. Our bad.

"The boys kept us here," Shade said. "We would have left a longggg time ago."

That was how we all ended up going on a group stroll together. Me, the girls - Shade, Krisdana, Prissy, and the boys - Ivandor, Yure and Nova.

We had spread out, literally taking the entire so of the road, walking, talking, laughing, for what seemed to last for a long, long time. We literally walked, until it started to slowly get dark, and it was fun all the way. I didn't regret this.

Ivandor's hand was on mine, the entire time. Yure was by the left of Shade and Nova, and just right next to me and Ivandor. Krisdana and Prissy walked by the right of Shade and Nova instead... We talked and walked for a long, long time.

We were close to the class once again when Chika and her clique literally pounced on us. I visibly shook when I saw how jumpy that Dabeluchi girl was, all of a sudden, but I said nothing.

The girls dragged Yure away from us, whispering and giggling and rendering is confused.

"Seems like Yure is in trouble," Prissy commented as we all watched them pull the hopeless boy, took him away from our sights, into a circle of their confraternity.

"It's like they want to use him for rituals or something," Nova laughed.

"I would have suggested we go there and help him, but this is so fun to watch," Shade was putting a hand to her mouth to muffle her chuckling.

They finally let him go, literally giggling and laughing, and dumping him there, running away.

Yure came back to us, mouth hung open in shock, eyes wide as saucers, and a red lipstick kiss mark on his left cheek.

He blinked. "What. Just. Happened."

"You, tell us, ladies man," Shade quipped.

"One, those girls are crazy," he started.

"Uh huh?" Prissy urged him on.

"And I think I may be going to prom with one of those twins, I'm not sure which one," He went on and we burst into laughter.

He couldn't explain how or why the kiss mark was on his face or who did it and I concluded that none of those girls in Chika's clique, including Chika, herself, was normal. I love them, but they aren't normal. Period.

We walked back, into one of the classes to witness a level of crase from my classmates that I didn't expect. My classmates were apparently all filled up in the class, witnessing and edging onn a rap battle between Ziba and some guy.

"Is that Affah?" Krisdana was the one who had called out attention to the guy who was in a free style battle with Ziba.

Affah. That was his name, I didn't know. All I knew was that he hung around a lot with Kaniru and the boys.

Speaking of Kaniru and those boys.

I hadn't seen them since yesterday that we all got here. Turns out after the investigation, Ajiro was innocent after all. Not all Class F girls were involved, or even knew about the assault, but a good number did. The majority of them were actually the Ss1 girls - Kaniru's sister and co.

Our parents had come to the conclusion to have them, as well as every kid involved in the assault, arrested for a few months. The last I heard of them was that their cell had mysteriously caught on fire and harmed them severely. However, no one was recorded to have lost their lives, but a few were sent to the hospital. This had reportedly happened on the day of the Sports Awards, we heard the news after Hassana's death.

But Affah, surprisingly, was the boy in the group who had helped to give off the names of the other boys. According to what was told to us, they confirmed that he didn't take part in the assault.

Things didn't sit well with me... About him. I was grateful he was of help to catch the people who nearly killed me that day, but I knew that, once upon a time, they were his friends. He didn't seem bothered, having to snitch on them, and look at him today, having the time of his life and intently trying to finish off a rap battle... Basically enjoying his last days of Secondary school, like he didn't even care that his friends were hurt severely.

I couldn't understand it... I didn't even want to.

"FEJAUN!"

Simutaneously, we jumped at the shout. Only Ivandor stayed still.

"FEJAUN!"

Ivandor stayed stoic, sighed softly, and I heard him mutter, "Shit."

"FEJAUN!"

Nope, Aaron wasn't done yet. Before we knew it, the two boys, Aaron and Casper were pulling the entire class' attention towards us. We barely had taken two steps into the class, but thanks to those goofy ass boys, the entire class was giving us all the attention.

Aaron and Casper took us in. Wasn't necessary, but they did. All the way, they made sure to exchange pleasantries with each and everyone of us. Somehow, these boys knew how to do it. Give equal, and excess attention to everyone!

They addressed me with respect, just as they always did. Aaron reminded Krisdana of all her threats of chopping off his manhood, while Casper suddenly got lighter in overactiveness around her.

Both boys treated Prissy like a baby, complimenting her dancing last night. They accused Nova of ditching them in the media room for Shade. They taunted Shade, calling her 'Shades of Green's over and over, and I thought Ivandor was soon going to scatter Aaron's face with a punch as he kept screaming 'FEJAUN!" like a mad man.

Yure's attention was extra ordinary.

The boys folded books into microphones(God knows where they got them from), and started hooting into it, making loud noises all in the name of gathering everyone's attention.

I swear, it felt like the entire set was packing themselves in this one class. It wasn't possible, yeah, but it felt so. And seeing that Aaron and Casper were both present, I understood why it was so easy to pull the entire set together. Those boys knew how to gather an entire crowd and keep them entertained. Talent.

"So, guys, we have our very own Chris Brown in the set oo, I don't know if you people are current oo!" Aaron announced into that folded book he decieved himself was a microphone.

"Yes ooo. The one and only. Abi, you people heard the mad jam already!" Casper followed up.

I laughed and face-palmed, already feeling bad for Yure. The attention on him this period was just something else.

Yure didn't have a choice. Due to the pressure from ALL our classmates, he had to sing.

I sat on a desk locker, next to Ivandor and Nova and the girls hung around.

Someone played the guiltar and quickly, I recognised the tone to be 'Best Part' by Daniel Caesar, and Yure started the song with a soft, addictive sound. A skill in singing that I heard from Krisdana and Prissy was called falsetting.

The class was quiet, listening to him. Again with the choice of songs... Yure always knew the songs that best complimented his voice and God knows, every song I ever heard Yure sing, I never looked at it the same way again.

And he sure did flaunt this song. If I didn't know him better, I'd conclude he was showing off. I mean, when he got to the bridge, Yure switched into a clean whistle register. I'm not even shitting you. This boy took the keys up so high that he practically started to whistle with his voice. Clear, clean, like a fucking bird!

This was a skill that many singers are dreaming to be able to do with their voice, I knew that because of Krisdana... And yet, a secondary school boy is effortlessly flaunting it, like he was born with it. Honestly, Yure was a blessed singer. A unique singer. Once again, I was glad that talent wasn't wasted.

There was quickly a vocal battle between Yure and Ella who used to be the chapel prefect and it was all fun to watch them play with the songs. Afterwards, everyone decided they felt like singing, both the ones who could and the ones who couldn't sing, sang out at their loudest.

Before dinner that evening, the whole set was outside. Someone was playing Alone by Alan Walker and Ava, and the sweet feeling the song brought blended well with the warm atmosphere. Easily, a lot of classmates joined into our circle, trying to spark conversations, and we found ourselves, I found myself, talking with people whose names I never knew, or whose faces I could have sworn I had never seen in our set.

Prom was scheduled to begin by 8pm and before that time, Shade already made up her mind on getting special stylists and make-up artists for all of us. Krisdana was excited and decided she needed to drop by at her house and get her brother's camera.

The thought of stopping by at Krisdana's house didn't sit well with me.

"Kris, I'm not going in there," I told her bluntly, frozen on my spot in Shade's limo as we parked outside the house.

Apparently, everyone wanted to step down from the limo, but I adamantly glued my butt to the seat, not moving.

"Why?" She asked.

"Your dogs," I didn't lie. "They hate me."

They all laughed me to scorn. I didn't even laugh. Nothing was funny.

In the end, Krisdana successfully ended up manipulating me into stepping down from the limo. I don't know how she did it, but all I remember was holding on dearly to the halfcaste girl and nearly crying.

Surprisingly... The dogs didn't attack me. Not like last time. Not at all. They just laid there, calmly resting, not making any noise at all.

"See? It's not that bad," Shade teased me.

It wasn't like this before...

"They only bark at bad people," Krisdana told me.

My heart dropped. Was that why they had barked at me in the past?

"I'm joking, I'm joking," Krisdana laughed, and I looked at this girl as if she was crazy.

"They bark at strangers." She shrugged. "I actually expected them to bark at you, but I guess they're in a good mood."

One, I didn't seem too convinced that that was the only reason they barked at me.

And two, Krisdana just said she expected them to bark at me, and yet she took me in here, WHEN SHE KNEW I WAS SCARED OF DOGS!

I stopped myself from strangling her.

The Dress Up Session in Shade's Mansion was lovely. We had fun all the way, vibing to cool music as her personal aids, make up artists, and hair stylists, did justice to us.

Krisdana showed up first, rocking a bold dark red lipstick, bolder, more pronounced cat eye-liner that popped out her blasian slit eyes, and a heavy, yet moderate contour that popped out the features of her face. She trooped into the room, wearing a long flowing, classy, spaghetti strapped V-neck evening gown. One she had refused to show us the entire time, and seeing what it looked like now... Wow, was all I could say.

Krisdana's prom look✨

Shade showed up next, rocking a stunning smokey eye make-up, dark red lipstick and a full, curly pony tail that looked like they had taken a whole day to make it sleek enough and perfect the edges. Her dress was chic and sophisticated - a maroon red, V-neck long sleeved, long dress that made her look like she dropped from the royal chamber.

Shade's look✌️

Since my dress was a light blue one, my make up was light and elegant, but enough. I wasn't a fan of blocking the pores on my skin excessively, and I was grateful when they managed to make me look good, even without doing too much. My dress flowed, almost like a ball gown, and I must admit, it felt a bit too heavy for me.... But what can I say? Beauty is pain.

Giwa's Prom Dress ✨

Prissy was the last one to get ready with her look. Ironically, she did the least. As she walked in from the dressing room with her neatly done black box braids - handled by the hair stylists - cute decent nude make-up, glitter on her skin, and her red, short, fancy off-shoulder flay dress. Her look was simply adorable.

Just imagine a dress like this on Prissy✌️

"Awww, Prissy," Shade coo'd. Even the girls were quick to acknowledge how simple, yet beautiful she looked tonight. She looked like a Queen.

"You look amazing," I told her, and she blushed, did a mock curtsey that got us giggling.

"Prissy is so pretty," I heard Krisdana mutter silently to herself. I didn't think I was supposed to hear her, but I did.

It almost sounded like a tired confession. I had to look at her, to get a glimpse of her, staring at Prissy with a look in her eyes. I could pick it up easily. It was slight intimidation, slight envy, yet a magnified adoration.

And that's when I saw it in her. That slight insecurity in Krisdana...

I couldn't believe it. Prissy was making Krisdana feel insecure?

"You're pretty too, Kris." I told her. I assured her.

She looked like she didn't believe me, yet she forced a smile and said, "Thank you." And that was all, I got myself wondering just how much Krisdana's self esteem had been battered and bruised.... I didn't even want to think about it.

In the end, they nearly drained me with the excessive pictures and videos they were taking. All the way, Shade went live again, and storms of people were viewing our every moment. I honestly wondered how people did it.. Why people would sit for nearly an hour, watching a celebrity on a live video, even if they were doing absolutely nothing. Didn't they have books to read or something?

We all held our dresses up to walk down to Shade's limo, except Prissy who comfortably walked in her short prom dress. We also decided to hold our shoes in our hands when Prissy nearly fell because of those glass heels she had on. We got downstairs, we chatted and laughed all the way, gushing about what we were expecting for Prom.

We got into the Limo and as soon as the drive began, I looked around me, to the girls. Krisdana, who kept talking about how Shade had skyrocketed her IG account from all the live videos. Prissy, who kept talking about meeting the Triple J, Shade, who couldn't stop going live. I smiled to myself, happy to be surrounded with this much vibrance on the night of my prom. Happy to be surrounded by these girls.

I already knew it, deep down in my heart, that this night was going to be one of the best nights of my life. I was looking forward to my prom, and a part of me, didn't even want it to end.
