                                      ~GIWA~

"There's a thief in our class!" Hassana complained to me that Monday morning.

We were both in our class that morning, waiting for  second period to start.

I legit just came back from a hectic prefects meeting and while I was struggling with a throbbing headache, she was only adding to it.

"No, I'm telling you!" She went on. "I came this morning and my locker was broken! Now, I can't find my Chemistry textbook!"

While she ranted on, I basically ignored her and just started to unpack my books from my bag, into my locker.

"It's because WAEC is this April, naw! The idiot that stole my textbook just wants me to fail!" Hassana ranted on.

"Hassana." I said, and she turned to me immediately.

"Please, I just came back from a meeting and my head is paining me. Can we talk about your chemistry textbook later? I have more disturbing things on my mind." I told her plainly.

Hassana was quiet. I didn't hear her voice again. I didn't look at her to see what her facial expression was like, but I heard her make a small, almost snotty sound that I would have originally ignored, until she said;

"When they start stealing your own books now, you'll start shouting at everybody anyhow."

I turned immediately to her and pierced her with a death glare that mellowed that loud mouth of hers.

I hissed when she looked away fearfully, and I continued what I was doing.

And woah, what a mood I was in this morning!

Ever since that fight with me and Ivandor last week Friday, I had been too irritable. Sadly, Hassana was a major victim of my outbursts and she didn't even know what happened. Maybe today, she decided to defend herself.

Luckily for me, the class was not noisy today. It was full, yes, but everyone was trying to focus on finishing their Math assignment before the math teacher comes in.

Apparently, Hassana couldn't care less about it. Instead, she was complaining about a chemistry textbook she may probably never read in her life.

"What's wrong with you, anyways?" I heard Hassana ask grudgingly.

Ivandor Fejaun.

"Nothing." I replied instead.

I was certain she didn't believe me, but she didn't push me either. She just let it be.

Ivandor hadn't texted me the entire weekend. A part of me felt he probably wasn't bothered.

I didn't care anyways. Whatever he wanted was fine. Even if he was bothered, that wasn't even my business.

He wasn't in class at the moment. Where he usually sat with his friends, I only saw Krisdana and Nova there, both of them looking busy with their books. While Nova looked like he was struggling with his math assignment like the rest of the class, Krisdana looked rather calm and collected - with an economics text book infront of her desk, a small fancy jotter by the side, and a pen hanging over her ear. Looked to me like she had already done and dusted her math assignment.

Ivandor was probably still on his way from the Prefects meeting. And speaking of the meeting;
I did well to act like Ivandor was non-existent the entire time, and right after the meeting was closed, I was the first the first person to run out of that staffroom.

I heard Hassana muttering to herself as she roughly handled the books in her locker in anger, but I ignored it.

Just when I placed my Math textbook and notebook on my desk to get myself ready for second period, I just so happened to jam eyes with Ivandor who was just literally walking into the classroom at that same moment.

We held eye contact for a few seconds. A few seconds that was enough for me to see the deep sadness in his eyes.

I looked away immediately. This boy was not going to be charming me today.

Still, through the corner of my eyes, I noticed him making his way towards my seat.

I only wondered where he was going to stay if he actually was walking up to me to talk, because everyone in class was seated on their seats, and there was absolutely no empty seat for him to scoot into.

Surprisingly, he wasn't even bothered with the idea of having to stand infront of my desk while everyone else in class was sitting down.

"Giwa." He said, as soon as he got infront of my desk.

I turned my face away from him, and set my eyes the other way so I wouldn't have to look at him.

The class was extremely quiet, so people close by should have heard him call my name.

I ignored him completely.

Hassana, by my side, even had to nudge me. Ofcourse, the way I ignored him, it was almost like I had not a single clue he was even there. She probably wanted to alert me and tell me he was standing in front of my desk.

But hell, I knew. I just wasn't interested in anything he had to say right now.

"Giwa, I'm sorry about everything. Please. I just want you to give me the chance to explain myself. I'm ready to tell you everything." Ivandor pleaded.

I answered him not.
A single glance? I didn't even spare.

"Giwa, please, let me explain," he begged.

As much as I wanted to give an ear to him, I forced myself to harden my heart. He wasn't easily going to have his way with me. Not today.

After treating me that way the entire holiday and nearly giving me a heart attack. Making me feel so insecure the entire time, and then screaming at me like that in class that day, he really thinks he can just come in here and easily have me throw my hands all over him? He must be joking.

"Please, Giwa," he kept on pleading.

I noticed that the people who sat around my seat area were starting to understand what was happening between us. Slowly, they started turning to look at me and Ivandor.

When I turned sharply to look directly at Daniel Gbenga, whose eyes were fixed directly on us like we were television, he turned his eyes away immediately.

However, when I turned to also look at Krisdana who also seemed to have been watching us, she didn't budge. Her look remained dead on me, without flinging. I was forced to look away myself.

"Giwa..please..," Ivandor's voice that was now filled with that same hopelessness and extreme sadness in his eyes, came again. He didn't even seem to care that people were even watching us. He just didn't care.

That moment, the Math teacher walked into the class, and I have a sigh of relief. Wasn't sure how much longer I could close my heart towards Ivandor.

He, Ivandor, was eventually forced to leave me alone, and go to his seat.

Hassana did not even ask me a single question about what happened afterward.

The main topic of the Prefects meeting was for the purpose of the Castron High Interhouse Sports Competition that was just around the corner - the second week of February to be specific. We had barely a month to prepare.

As you know already, every student had to be in a club house for Inter house Sports. In Castron High, there were 8 houses; Red House, Yellow House, Blue house, Orange House, White house, Green house, Pink house, and Majenta House.

By this time of the session, every student was expected to gather up in the field to find out where their house members are gathered for the first meeting. You would know where your house was because an SS3 student would most likely be holding up the house flag to attract the house members.

School was over already, but all the students had to wait behind briefly, for the first Inter house meeting. I was already out on the crowded school field with Hassana and Prissy.

Nearly the whole school was out here on the field, at the moment and it was like a jungle!

At different sides of the huge over-populated field, I saw a variety of colored house flags, being waved in the air, and students - ranging from Jss1 to Ss3 - gathered all around them in groups. Some students weren't in groups, but rather littered themselves around the entire field -probably trying to find their house flags. Ofcourse, everyone was trying to locate their house as quickly as possible. And so were me and my girls.

"Oh, there's Yellow House flag!" Hassana chirped beside me, before hurriedly leaving me and Prissy to run towards Yellow House gathering.

I couldn't help but notice it, but, Ivandor was there too, in the yellow house gathering. He just stood still, watching with an unbothered look on his face, as his cousin, Krisdana, as well as some other of our other classmates there, were trying to co-ordinate the Juniors that were in scattered lines.

He looked very disturbed.

I tried not to look too much.I really tried not to.

"Are you okay?" Prissy asked me. She was walking right beside me, as we ventured further into the field to find our house flags. Castron High field was too massive. This was a strenuous task.

"I'm fine," I lied.

Like Hassana, she didn't push further as well.

"Found White House Flag!" She eventually informed me, then she scurried of as well.

From that moment, it wasn't hard finding my own house flag, because I saw Soma Best, the Utility Prefect, waving it from a distance with so much enthusiasm.

Why was she even so happy today?

I shook it off and walked towards my house gathering.

Red House.

As soon as I got there, I saw how my my classmates - mostly the females, some guys too - were forcing their power and authority on the juniors, all in the name of arranging them into perfect lines.

While the guys majorly handled the boys, and the girls majorly handled the boys. People like Soma Best did not even care about Gender. I literally walked in on the babe whacking a Jss2 boy on the ass with the Yellow House Flag, because he was 'too sluggish'.

I also noticed she had a bell in her hands as well, and she kept clanging it in the ears of the 'sluggish' juniors.

Damn, those juniors just find that girl extremely blood boiling!

And Goodness Lord, my house was filled with Class F boys!

Oh, God. I think I'm soon  going to have a throbbing headache soon.

While most of the Class F boys focused on the Jss1 to  the Ss1 set, only the Sanitary Prefect Boys, Chido Ihenna, walked round the tall and huge SS2 Boys, ordering them to dress up properly.

He wasn't in Class F, so unlike those idiots making noise here, he didn't even have to talk much. He just tapped any one defaulting, and they knew what to do instantly - whether it was tightening their tie, or tucking in their shirts properly.

However, when I walked in, I gathered all the attention to myself.

Suddenly, it seemed like the orderliness that my classmates had been screaming on top of their lungs and pulling their hair out to achieve from these juniors, came immediately, as all them - both boys and girls- diverted their attention towards me.

There was hushed whispering - I could hear exclamations of 'jesus' erupting from the juniors. Eyes were widened in terror, and these juniors looked like they were legit holding their heart in their hands.

I almost laughed out loud.

My former house used to be White House.

However, I had changed my house at the beginning of the session, and picked Red instead.

I'm pretty sure the last thing on these juniors' minds was to see my face showing up in their house today.

"Oh, so now you people will behave, abi! Stupid children!" I heard a voice screaming behind me, at the Juniors, and breaking down into a mock filled laughter afterward.

I turned back to see Chika Chioma, sitting on the red and white striped pavement behind me. She was the one who just shouted at the juniors.

Apparently, I could see her younger sister in SS2, Stella, was also sitting right next to her on the pavement, with a sly smile on her face.

Hmph. Nice one, Stels. Way to feel bigger than your mates, aye!

Chika was just lucky I liked her honestly. If not, I would have sent her sister back to squeeze herself in with her other SS2 Classmates and she would have done nothing about it.

I turned my attention from both girls, and to the Juniors in front of me.

"RED HOUSE!" I announced. The authority in my voice had weight and mass.

"Yes, senior!" They all chorused simutaneously.

"Arrange yourselves according to your classes! Boys and girls seperately. NOW!" I ordered.

With a speed that even shocked me, these juniors started shoving themselves around to make perfect, straight lines.

In about seconds, I saw five perfect straight lines formed. All of them were standing according to their classes - Jss1 to Ss2 - in the most orderly manner ever.

Wow! Perfect Co-ordination!
I was impressed. Yet, I didn't smile to show that. My face remained plain and impassive, enumerating that no-nonsense aura that scared them stiff.

"Welcome to Red House." I told them all.

"You already know who I am, so let's skip the unnecessary introduction. All you should know is that I am your new house captain." I said plainly.

The whispers came up again amongst them. Looking to the SS2 girls line, I noticed Amina Dule - the black beauty of Ss2 and the self acclaimed Queen bee, giving off nasty faces and saying something to her disgusting group of clingy friends.

A brow of mine arched. I hoped those nasty faces they were making wasn't meant for me, because I'm in the perfect mood to kill someone's daughter right now.

"I'm not going to talk too much. I just have a few things to say. You know, we are really capable of flowing well in this house without me having to skin anyone alive. Ofcourse, that is on the condition that you follow all my rules!" I informed them audibly.

The whole place was silent, as all eyes set on me, waiting for me to speak.

"First rule. Don't smile unnecessary while you're here." I said the first rule.

"Exactly oo!! All of you that will just come and be shining your teeth and laughing anyhow as if you're in a circus, abi, comedy show! Especially all these stupid Ss2 girls!!" Chika shouted behind me and hissed loudly.

I clearly saw Amina, a.k.a, Ss2 Queen Bee, and her group of friends eyeing Chika in the most nasty way possible.

I ignored that.

Instead, I turned back to Chika, who she held on to her younger sister who was in the Ss2 set that she just insulted.

"Chika, I think I'll take it from here," I politely said to her.

"Continue. I won't disturb you again, my dear!" She urged me on.

I turned back to the Juniors, and continued;

"As I was saying, do not be smiling or laughing or engaging in flimsy chit-chats while we're here for our meetings. The Interhouse Sports Competition is not a joke. Therefore, it shouldn't be treated as such. Am I understood?"

"Yes, senior!" The grudge filled, almost faint, reply came from the Juniors.

"I said, Am I understood?!" I repeated louder.

"YES, SENIOR!" They chorused very loudly.

"Good, and if you feel you can represent the house in anything, kindly meet Amarachi Ukeje -," I gestured to the tom-boyish Sports girls and ex captain of the house, that was talking with the Sports master, behind the juniors.

"..Or, the assistant captain of the house, Your Sanitary Prefect Boys, Chido Ihenna -," I gestured to Chido, who stood like a guard behind the SS2 boys.

"Make sure to get your names down with them, and do not bother registering your name if you're not sure you're bringing a win for the house. If you disappoint the house, I will simply break every bone in your body. Understood?" I announced.

"Yes, senior!" They all chorused.

"Our match past practice starts tommorow during sports and takes place every Tuesday. Every member of this house is expected to be here by 12:30pm on the dot. Do not be a second late. Don't even dare stepping in here after me. That would be even worse. Understood?"

"Yes, senior!"

"Do not run away from the Match Past practices. It's a warning. I know a lot of people will not be able to stand seeing Giwa Falade's face all the time, and may attempt running away. I have the list of all the members of this house and there will be a role call for our every meeting. So, if I find you absent, I promise you won't like yourself. The only people exempted from this rule are people with health challenges. Is that understood?"

"Yes, Senior!"

"And finally, every member of this house is expected to show up to the House meetings well - dressed in the correct school uniform. Ss2s' are not exempted." I announced clearly.

They knew exactly what I meant by that last rule. The sudden whispers coming from Ss1s' and Ss2s' made that clear enough.

"That means tommorow, you should be on your school-given sports shirts, school-given sports shirts and sparkling white socks!" I elaborated still.

Ss2s' had the most problem with that rule. Virtually all of them had black socks on, and I doubt there was anyone in SS2 who had the school-given sports uniform. Theirs' was all re-made and fancy.

"And for the girls, all those mumbo-jumbo on your hair. Get rid of it before tommorow or you'll have to pay the consequences." I said.

I was clearly referring to the outrageous hair-dos'.

Right in the middle of the noise erupting, I announced;

"This doesn't mean you get off the hook for defaulting today anyways. That being said, If you are here and you are wearing black socks, kindly step out before I fish you out myself!" I ordered.

My major culprits were SS2 girls. As expected. Some SS1s' and not more than 10 students all from Jss1 to Jss3.

They all came out themselves, and the seniors segregated themselves from the Juniors, as they knelt down on the grass.

While I gave my other rules, I ordered for the defaulters to remove their black socks and they obeyed. As they took it off, I made them wear their school shoes, without the socks, to go back and stand in line with their mates.

However, when nearly everyone had adhered to my rule, and done as I said, Amina a.k.a  Ss2's  Queen bee, begged to differ.

She bluntly refused to take off her black socks.

"Queen Amina of Ss2!" I addressed her, and she snottily looked at me.

"Take of your black socks!" I ordered her, but this girl was hell bent on forming big girl for me.

There was a tight scowl on her face and she folded her arms, clearly ignoring me.

Now, you see one thing about Ss2s'. They had the most guts over all the juniors, because they were our immediate juniors. The way these SS2s' are, they can ignore you with swag and you'll just hate yourself.

That had never been the case for me anyways. I held this school in my palm. Ss2s' included.

So, that's why when Amina tried proving sass and sauce for me, everyone's mouth was dropped open in shock. Everyone. My classmates. Her classmates. Her juniors, as well.

"Amina, don't make me repeat myself!" I snapped at the bitch. The anger started to rile up in me. I really was not ready for this girl right now.

She kept her hands folded and rolled those big cat eyes of hers at me. Then, her perfectly rounded lips opened, and she said to me with the rudest tone. "I'm not going to."

Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Her guts shocked me to my bones.

"Look, Senior Giwa." Amina started.

I watched in shock as she rapped her mouth thereon;

"I came out infront of my juniors and embarrassed myself like this by kneeling down on this grass and that's enough! You're not going to make me wear shoes without socks and walk around school! That is disgusting, and if you are a disgusting person, I most definitely am not!" Amina spat at my face with so much boldness.

The whole place seemed to set on fire immediately.

My female classmates furiously started screaming at her, and she just kept eyeing them one after the other.

And the juniors? While some were scared still at whatever my reaction was going to be, some were happy that someone actually spoke to me like that.

Infact, Amina's classmates looked like they just won the lottery. They were so happy.

The next thing that happened did everything like film.

My hand landed on Amina's ebony face with tremendous force.

Once. Twice. Three times.

I gave Amina three consecutive, brain resetting slaps that sent her to the ground immediately.

Everywhere stilled again. Silence everywhere, as Amina held a hand to her cheek on the floor in shock. Her eyes looked like they were tearing up

Once again, I could see that fear in her eyes as she looked at me. It gave me immense joy.

Ofcourse, the slap attracted attention from the other houses close by in the field. Including Yellow House, where Ivandor was.

Chido had to step in eventually, and died the matter down. Surprisingly, he managed to get Amina to remove the socks in order to let peace reign and she obliged without any stress.

I felt satisfied.

Right until I got home that day, that satisfaction never faded.

I felt so satisfied with myself.

Sounds sick, yeah?

But on a serious note, It felt good to remind myself who exactly I was again. Because, in all honesty, I didn't even know anymore.

With the way I had softened up lately. I had been feeling too tamed. Too light-hearted. Too weak even. This whole entire time.

And it was all because of Ivandor.

As much as I hated to admit it, I wanted to talk to him again. I really did.

And I was angry at myself for even considering letting him off the hook after everything. I hated how weak hearted I was becoming.

I actually missed him.

But you know what? Maybe I missed my old self even more.

And as I locked myself up in my room later that evening, I tried my hardest - I forced myself to harden that bitch beating inside of my chest.

I wanted to harden it once again. I was determined that was what I was going to do.

I looked to the mirror in my room, and said to myself;

"I am Giwa Falade. I am ruthless. I am feared. Nothing and no one is changing that."

We af finish ooooooo!!!!!!!!!😅😅❤️
