~Giwa~
How could she?!
Shade knew very well that she was the only way we could get back home from Yure's house and she decided to dump all of us here just like that, because of a stupid photoshoot! For God sake, is she the only model in the world? She knew how to act like her career was the most important thing in the world and she was too busy to do even the littlest things for her friends. Tonight, she has to go for a photoshoot. Tommorrow, she'd say she has to go for an "exclusive" Interview. The day after that, she'd say she has to walk with the Queen of England on the red carpet. Last week, she had even ditched our girls night to hang out with Nancy Isime. Maybe, next, she'd tell us she has a date with the Hemsworth brothers on the moon.
Shade Onam was just so full of it. Just because she was a top teenage Nigerian model and happened to have 5 million stupid followers on Instagram and Twitter, she was suddenly better than everyone. I'm really getting sick of that girl. I just_
"Hey, are you okay?" I heard someone ask behind me. I was standing by one of the chocolate fountains, sipping from the glass of wine I had gotten from Prissy some minutes ago. I had stormed out of the gathering where my friends and the guys were at after Prissy told us about Shade not showing up. Neither of them - not Hassana, Prissy, Aaron, Casper, or any of the others there had the courage to walk over and say anything to me. Of course, everyone knew how I could get when I was angry and none of them were ready to taste my wrath this night.
"Hey?" I heard the voice come again. I turned back to see Nova Igwe behind me, standing with a glass of what looked like Hennessy.
I forced a smile, which was quite unlike me when I was in a bad mood.
Nova Igwe just happened to be the only guy in Castron High that I truly, completely like - as a friend. I had a soft spot for him, even if sometimes he could tick me off. Maybe, it was because of his sweet guy nature, or the fact I truly admired his mother - single mother, who raised five boys on her own, having Nova as the last of all of them. Still, even if he didn't have any sister - that didn't stop him from treating all girls around him like Queens - literally.
"Queen Giwa," he addressed me.
I told you.
"Nova, please, leave me alone," I said, laughing.
"Okay look babe. Are you actually going to tell me why you've been fuming by this fountain for the past five minutes..or are we going to stand here and pretend like everything is okay," He said , a grin plastered on his adorable light skinned face.
I playfully rolled my eyes at him and a stiffled laugh escaped my lips.
"Seriously, I'm not in the mood. And, I don't want to be rude to you, Nova," I told him.
He looked at me for a while like he was observing me - his brown eyes narrowing slightly.
Then, his next action completely shocked me. He just held me tight by my waist and raised his right hand up in the air to get the attention of everyone. I stood there, by him, shocked and confused.
"Yo, Everyone. Over here!!" He called out loud.
"Nova what are you..,"
"Yo, Everyone! Look this way!!" He called out even louder, and he sure did get the attention of every one. Before I knew what was going on, all eyes were on me and Nova.
Jesus Christ. This guy had zero chills!
"I just want to say that I think Giwa is a Queen and she looks amazing tonight. And.. I want her to put a smile on her face. And, If she's going to shout at me and tell me to leave her alone, I want her to do in front of all of you," He yelled out to everyone.
That got people laughing. Needless to say, me too. I could read the lip of some of the girls mouthing "aww". Some of them, practically looking me over like I was a piece of rag. I didn't care really. All I knew was that I couldn't even be mean to Nova right now even if I wanted to - not after the scene he just created.
However, just in the midst of the crowd who were spectating us, I just happened to see Yure Adediji stepping out. His eyes met mine directly, and the way my smile dampened may have even shocked him. I hate that guy so much.
"You look amazing, your majesty," Nova said, kissing the back of my palm softly.
The way Nova interacted with girls, you'd think he had a crush on you.
"You and your friends always seem to always blow everyone away all the time," he said.
"Why Thankyou,"
"But, what about your friend..the model. Shayde? I haven't seen her here..," he said.
He was talking about Shade.
And almost immediately, a nerve hit within me. I was actually starting to forget how angry I was and it all just came back.
Now, remember when I said, Nova ticked me off sometimes. This was a good instance - Nova absolutely adored Shade Onam.
Before I had the chance to say anything to Nova concerning Shade, I was caught off by a very loud ugly shriek of a laughter.
Jesus Christ! Who laughs like that?
I turned to my left where the laughter had come from just to get a good look at Ajiroghene, the sets own Warri girl a.k.a mama crase, playing and rubbing herself on Nomso Eze, who looked very uncomfortable and eager to leave the conversation. God! That girl was so irritating.
"I jus look am. He no know say I be Warri geh. I BE WARRI GIRL OO!!" She gisted Nomso at the top of her deep husky voice, gesturing and jumping carelessly with her oversized body to emphasize how much of a Warri girl she was. She almost never spoke English - always pidgen. The last statement she made, she stressed the "b" a little too much and ended up spitting on poor Nomso's face. He looked a bit irritated by this. It really amazed me how Ajiroghene's parents could be so wealthy and still raise such a mannerless local child like her.
"Who even invited that Ajiro girl to this party!!" I blurted out louder than I wanted to. And believe me when I tell you, I had a very loud voice. Perks of being the Head Girl. Ajiroghene just happened to hear what I said and I knew she was going to make a dirty scene. As expected, I heard her voice coming after me saying, "Ah, who be this one"
I didn't even look at her. My eyes were fixed on Nova who was bat out of hell confused at this point. I say to Ajiroghene loud and clear;
"Look Ajiro. I'm really not ready for your drama this night. Find another person to make a fool of yourself with,"
That was enough to set her on fire. She started to jump and swear, threatening to beat me up- rubbish empty threats. I wasn't even scared one bit. If anything was going to ever scare me, it most definitely wouldn't be that local girl. Sure, if she did try attacking me, I most likely wouldn't be able to fight back. Ajiro was about twice my size so I wouldn't stand a chance. But then, Ajiro could sadly do nothing to me than shout and make a fool out of herself. And she knew it.
"You see you this Giwa! You see as you take be so ehh! One day, I go reason your matter. Mark my words, bitch!"
And with that Ajiroghene left - leaving Nomso to have his breathing space.
Mark my words, Bitch.
So she knows how to make a statement in English without adding pidgen. Good for her.
I turned into see Nova who looked like he had his heart in his hands. I almost laughed.
"You good?" I ask with humor in my tone.
"Like the Hell? I got scared i was about to witness a cat fight right now," he said.
I laughed out loud.
"Please. Everyone knows Ajiro is all bark and no bite," I said between my laughter.
"That's true, but you have to learn how to be ignoring people sometimes,"
Nova wasn't the one who said that.
I looked behind him to see my worst enemy - Yure Adediji, standing there behind Nova and smiling at me.
I stared blankly at the dark-skinned giant without saying a word. My face was as neutral as it could be.
"I'm surprised you actually came," he said, walking closer to stand just right next to Nova, gapping him with a height difference of about a head.
"Hmph," I reply, visibly uninterested as I sipped from my wine glass.
I always got invited for every Castron Party. I declined most of the invitation if I was certain it wasn't worth my time, I only attended 10%... but the things is, Yure actually wasn't one to throw a lot of Parties. The party throwers were usually Aaron and Casper - most of the time. Infact, asides this one, I don't even remember the last time Yure had a party. So, the fact that he had one and had me invited..? It piqued my curiosity.
"Hassana told me about Shade ditching you guys," Yure said.
"Okay and?" I replied.
"..and, I came here to let you know that my parents aren't home and a few people are most likely to sleep over here since its already late," he said.
I looked at him waiting for him to continue. I wanted him to get his point.
"You could sleep over night in one of the guest rooms. Tommorrow, I'll have the drivers drop everyone back at home safe and sound," he said, hitting the nail on the head.
I looked dead at him and gave no reply.
"Look.." he continued. "I know we don't particularly get along."
Well known fact.
"But that's why I invited you here," he continued.
Interesting, sarcasm intended.
"By Monday, we'd be in Ss3 and we can't keep being at each other's throats if we really want to lead properly. You're the Head girl and I'm the Head boy. We need to be a team. Why don't we just start over? Cheers to new beginnings?" he said.
I didn't know if I should believe him honestly. Like I said, this whole thing was just looking like a set up.
"C'mon Giwa," Nova urged. "Don't be stubborn"
I laughed a little and rolled my eyes.
"I'll observe first," I said. "Then I can decide"
Yure smiled at me.
"Perfect," he said.
I nodded with a pout on my lips. Whether he meant this or not, it was hard to tell really.
"Oh and about Shade..," he started saying.
I looked at him for the first time. My stare going upwards as I scanned his face.
"I really think you should talk to her," he said.
"About what?" I snapped. Disgust was already evident in my tone.
He laughed a little under his breath like my slight outburst amused him.
"Look, Shade isn't a bad person," he said. "I agree dumping you guys here was uncalled for but I really don't think she meant for this to happen"
I couldn't believe it. He was actually siding that bitch even after what she did. He always had a way of making it seem like I was always the one doing the wrong thing.
"I don't understand what you're trying to say," my reply came.
"I mean..I know Shade. She's a very nice person. She'd never want to intentionally do this to you guys for no just reason," he said, emphasizing on the "just".
"Shade is my friend. I know more about her than you ever will!" I snap at Yure, who just nodded slowly like he was trying to reason with me.
"Then, if that's true, you should know that she means well for everyone. I think Shade may really have an explanation for her actions that aren't as self - centered as you think," he retorted very calmly.
I completely lost my mind at that point. How everyone sided Shade all the time drove me nuts. Everyone spoke so highly of her, like she was some kind of saint or something. For Christ Sake!!
"You know what? You can bow down and worship your God, Shade Onam, for all I care!" I spat at Yure's face.
He backed up in shock at my statement. Nova did too. I didn't care. I went on.
"To hell with you, Yure Adediji!!" I screamed, gathering attention of people nearby.
"To hell with your stupid party! To hell with new beginnings! Yure Adediji, I swear to God, I am soooo ready for you this session!!"
Yure's mouth hung slightly open at my attack. Nova remained wide-eyed in shock.
I started leaving the living room, eyes following me all the way and people clearing the way for me to walk through as I stormed out in a fit of rage. I wasn't sure how exactly how I was getting home, but I was sure of one thing;
I couldn't stay in the same building with Yure Adediji.
Okay so that was feisty lol!
Uhmm so I want you guys to give me your thoughts on the way Giwa handled the whole Shade thing. Do you think she overreacted? Do you think Yure is as bad as she thinks? And do you alao think Shade is as bad as well? And what about Nova? What do y'all think of him?? And her encounter with Ajiroghene?? I think we have a lot to talk about lol! Hit the comments!!!
Okay again for Non Nigerian readers..
When Ajiroghene said, "Ah who be this one?" She meant "Ahh who does this one think she is?"
Again when Ajiroghene said, "You see you this Giwa. You see as you take be so ehh. One-day I go reason your matter" she meant "You this Giwa. You see the way you are. One-day, I'll take my time to deal with you"
That's it for this chapter!! Fill me in on your thoughts!!!
