Welcome, Again!!!😊
How are my readers doing today???😊❤️
~Giwa~
"So you guys.." I started.
My girls, Hassana, Shade, and Prissy were with me in my bedroom that evening after our Saturday lessons. We sat together on a mat on the floor, in a circle pattern.
"Who are the people we're inviting for Shade's Birthday??" I popped the question.
So, Shade was turning seventeen on the 9th of November, and it was just next month - barely two weeks from now.
"Okay, let's start with the guys.." Hassana started, squeaking excitedly as she waved her note pad and pen in the air, causing all of us to laugh.
"Speaking of the guys.." Prissy said. "Where are Aaron and Casper? Shouldn't they be here by now??"
So, yes, we called Aaron and Casper to come over to my place and help with the planning. Being as lively as they were, they were used to being called up to help with party planning in the set. Their heads always bubbled with all sorts of ideas, and that's just what we needed for Shade's party.
"They said they'd be here soon" I said. "But for now, asides Aaron and Casper, who are the guys we're inviting?
"Nova, Definitely" I heard Prissy speak up first. And all the girls seemed to agree. Obviously. I mean, everyone loved Nova.
"Right? Shade?" I heard Prissy say audibly, as she sort of gave googly eyes at Shade. That got all of us rolling in laughter, and Shade was covering her face as she laughed with us. Apparently, last Thursday, Prissy had mentioned to all of us on our girls group chat about Shade's little chemistry with Nova, and we'd teased the HELL out of her since then.
"Okay okay..Since we're inviting Nova.." Hassana said. "That means we're also inviting Yure and Ivandor?" The way her voice accented as she said Ivandor's name.
"Ahh. Obviously!" Prissy came in, with the tone in her voice screaming 'why not'.
"The three musketeers, baa?" Hassana laughed, agreeing with Prissy.
"Besides.." Shade spoke up for the first time. "The boys are really fun to be around." As she said it, it seemed to me that she was talking more from experience. It made me wonder how long she'd been with Nova and how much time she'd spent with him and his friends as well.
"Okay okay..Hassana, put down the names then. Nova, Ivandor and Yure" I said, and as I said Ivandor's name, something about it hit different for some reason. That fact both shocked and scared me at the same time.
"I'm actually shocked you said Yure's name without cringing" Hassana picked out, after scribbling on the notepad she was holding.
Indeed, I didn't. I was too focused on the strange feeling I got just by saying Ivandor's name to even regard my distaste for Yure. Wierd.
"Okay okay" Prissy said. "Also write down Daniel, Wilson,Nnaemeka,Chido, Marcus, Ayo, Jaja, Bolu..." She rapped the boys' names without warning.
"Jesus, Slow down!!" Hassana laughed immediately, shocked at the speed herself.
Suddenly, my room door was kicked open with a loud sound. Following that, my big sister, Lola, literally barged into the room with Nini. Both of them had left early in the morning to do their hairs and seeing the new looks they both had on, I was guessing they were done. Lola had on weaves, that were brown, long and silk, while my little sister, Nini, had on very long braids, that were black and ...what? ..silver at the tips?
"You guys! Check us outttt!!" Lola screamed, as she flipped her hair around. Nini, was rather blushing by her side and doing little bows.
"Oh my God. You guys look sooo goodd!!" Hassana screamed too.
If anyone was going to give the exact reaction Lola wanted, it definitely would have been Hassana. However, the other girls dashed out compliments too - all of them, going on and on about how cute my sisters' new hair dos' looked. I, myself, felt rather uneasy about Nini's hair in particular.
"Lola.." I managed to speak up, amidst all the voices.
She turned to look at me. A huge grin was platered on her face and her eyes were wide with excitement.
"You know Nini isn't supposed to make coloured hair to school.." I reminded her. She was an ex student of Castron High, so she should have known.
Nini's lips formed a pout and her face contorted to a fake frown. Lola, however, just laughed.
"So? You guys are in Ss3, naw. Nobody will disturb her." Lola said, brushing the topic off. Nini smiled hearing that. She knew she was covered. But still, even with all that, I still felt uncomfortable with my sister breaking school rules just because I was there to protect her.
"Okay you guys, we're going. Nini and I have a lot of pictures to take!!" Lola announced.
"See you, Bye!!" Nini chirped, before she and Lola literally hopped out of my room together.
Moving on, we resumed what we were doing before my sisters distraction. As Prissy mentioned guys in our set who should be invited to Shade's party, Hassana hurriedly wrote the names down in her note pad.
However, Lola trooped back into the room again about a few minutes after, but without Nini this time. She looked a bit confused as she came in, glancing back behind her and back at us a few times.
"You guys .." she said. "..Why are Aaron and Casper in our house?"
Oh ThankGod. They're here!!
Lola looked surprised however. I couldn't blame her. It was unlikely for me to call boys from school into the house.
"We called them, Lola." Shade answered, laughing at Lola's facial expression. But, before Lola had the chance to reply, some people just barged right into the room without any form of warning, startling all of us - especially Lola, who unfortunately was standing close to the door. However, our fear and shock changed to amusement and we immediately erupted in laughter when we realised who the intruders were.
Aaron and Casper.
The two knuckleheads were standing in front of my room, in matching hoodies, and laughing their heads off.
"Lola!!" The boys chorused as soon as they saw my sister. Apparently, they were very close to Ss3 girls when we were in Ss2, and Lola happened to be one of those girls they were quite fund of. I mean, who wouldn't? Lola was georgeous.
"Lola, you look like you've seen a ghost!" Aaron said, noticing my sister's shocked face. She was the only one who wasn't over the shock yet.
"You two are ghosts!!" She screamed at them, laughing immediately with the statement.
"We love you too, Lola!" Casper said to her. That earned him a playful, but painful, punch on the shoulder from Lola. He winced and just continued laughing in between the pain.
"I don't love you abeg. Continue barging into ladies rooms anyhow! Yeye boys!" She said, as she laughed and started to make her way to the door and out of the room.
"But the door was open!!" Aaron yelled behind her, but by the time, Lola was already out of the room and walking down the stairway outside.
"I'm marrying that girl." Aaron said, as soon as he turned to face us on the mat. Aaron had been declaring that he would get married to Lola for as long as I could remember.
"You people should come and sit down abeg." I laughed. Goof ass boys!
Aaron and Casper rushed into our circle like little kids, squeezing themselves by Shade Onam. Aaron, by her left, and Casper, by her right. And while at it, I kept hearing whispers from them saying to her, "Shades of Green" over and over. For some reason, they really liked Shade - maybe even more than Lola.
"So about Shade's party.." Casper said, calling our attention to the plan again.
"Okay so Aaron and I were thinking we should do a 90's spin-off themed party where everyone would show up wearing clothes from back in the days, like fela trousers, jump ups, and all that, but everyone will have to sort of recreate these trends in their own style and creativity.." Casper was telling us, and instantly, the girls and I were already loving the idea.
"You know that was actually my idea and not our idea." Aaron said to Casper, leaning slightly over Shade to look at him.
"No dude.." Casper opposed, leaning in also over Shade. I instantly felt bad for the girl.
"You were talking about the retro themed party idea, I brought up the idea of the 90's spin off" Casper said.
And in seconds, the two boys started a petty argument about who brought up the idea. I felt worse for Shade, having that she literally was in the middle of the boy's squabble and trying to redeem herself.
"Guys!" I heard her shout.
The boys surprisingly kept quiet and even backed up away from her afterward.
"It doesn't matter who brought up the idea. It's a great idea." she told them.
"Exactly!" Prissy agreed. "And on a side note, we haven't even discussed the girls we're inviting yet, we only have names of guys."
"Girls, aye" Aaron said, with a thinking face.
"Krisdana should be there." Casper suggested.
I sort of frowned at the idea. Krisdana Moe?
"No abeg!" I opposed.
"But the girl is fire!!" Aaron hyped.
"As in guy!!! Life of the party!" Casper followed.
Hmm.
I didn't fancy Krisdana much, but I knew she was. Somehow, she got spotlight in every party she attended. If she wasn't twerking for everyone or stealing the dance floor with her sick moves, she would be showing off with her voice during the talent sections. Everyone couldn't just get enough of Krisdana during parties.
"They're actually right though.." Prissy said, agreeing with the boys, shrugging shyly like she thought I was going to come after her for taking their side on the Krisdana case.
I just rolled my eyes.
Whatever they wanted.
It's not like I ever associated with every single person in Castron High Parties anyway.
"Chika Chioma too" Aaron said, and everyone immediately agreed with that one. Hassana was busy writing busily.
"And those her friends.." Prissy spoke up. "Dabeluchi, Soma Best, and those twins!!.." she started snapping her fingers to remember their names.
"Ebere and Ebube." Hassana reminded her, as she wrote into the book.
"And see." I spoke up immediately. "We are NOT inviting any person from F abegg!!" I finished and everyone laughed.
"As in. Cross all of them out. That Ajiro, Miranda, Abba, Kamkam.." I elaborated.
So, there we were, putting our all into the list of invitees for Shade's party. Only towards the end of everything, Shade Onam now spoke up.
"Can I say something?" She said.
All eyes turned to her, and she looked a tad bit nervous.
"I don't know. I'm not sure about this whole thing. I really hope it works out." she said.
"I don't understand" I said.
"I mean the party.." she elaborated. "I don't want anything to go wrong. Especially, since my manager..
I already understood what she was saying from that point.
"So are you saying your manager won't let you have your birthday party with us?" I cut her, my voice, sort of having a dead tone to it.
"I don't know." Shade said. "My manager is difficult. She always wants everything to be..professional." she said.
"I mean.." she continued. "What if we don't even end up having the party after everything?"
For some reason, that statement ignited something in me.
Shade Onam was at it again.
I had a feeling this would happen. I had a feeling she'd bring her manager into this, just so we couldn't stop her from having her "exclusive A-list" party. She did this last year too. I just had a strong feeling that she would do it again. Funny enough, I was actually starting to think that this girl and I were actually beginning to click.
I just sighed to myself.
"It's fine. We can dead the matter. You go on and have your party with your other celebrity friends." I said to her. I had already turned my face away from her so I wasn't really sure what her facial expression looked like after hearing what I said, but I heard her voice coming after me.
"What are you saying, Giwa?"
I looked up to her, to see a half annoyed, half sad look on her face. Everyone, however, had a "oh my God. I hope they aren't fighting" look on their face. I, for one, wasn't even ready to fight with Shade.
"You heard me." I told her. "It's okay if you don't want to have your party with us. No one is forcing you to. Go on and hang out with your A-listers."
That's when the sadness on her face dissappeared and the annoyed look came on full.
"Why do always misunderstand me?" She said. Her voice went high as she said it. It seemed the anger was taking over her.
All I did was laugh to myself.
But if I may ask though;
Who is this girl shouting out abeg?
"Shade." I said, scuffing initially, before looking dead at her.
"You better reduce your voice because I'm not understanding that tone you're using on me" I deadpanned.
She just stayed quiet looking at me. I turned my face away from her again and a deadly silence followed suite. Everyone was clearly uncomfortable at this point. Aaron and Casper's eyes were widened as they looked from me to Shade over and over again. Hassana looked tensed, and Prissy looked sort of akward instead. Nobody said a word.
"I think I'm leaving." Shade said, breaking the silence.
Everyone's eyes followed hers as she stood up from the mat. Well, everyone but me.
"Well, good. Your body guards have been standing around in my compound waiting for you" I said to her hearing, taking a glance at my nails as I said it, just to show her I couldn't care less if she was leaving or staying.
I wasn't looking at her, but I heard her footsteps clear and loud as she walked out of my room.
And immediately she left, all eyes fell back on me. All of them, probably confused on what to do next.
Another round of silence filled the air before Prissy's iPhone made a loud sound as a text message came in. In the midst of the overwhelming akwardness that filled the circle we formed, she took out her phone to check the message in her phone.
"Uh..Uh.." Prissy said, her voice filling everywhere in the silence.
"I have to go somewhere" she told everybody.
I didn't answer, but I guess the others did. Prissy left soon after as well, and I figured something about the text made her want to leave. Maybe, it was Shade who texted her, who knows.
That same way, everyone started taking permission one by one to leave.
Oh well. I guess that's it for Shade's Party.
So you guyssss!!
Let me know what you think!!
What do you think about Giwa's misconception of Shade? I mean, it's quite normal that people misunderstand people a lot. And, sometimes, we even misunderstand our own friends.
Do you think it's Giwa's fault for failing to understand Shade? Or do you think it's Shade's fault for failing to make Giwa understand her??
And about Prissy's text?
Who do you think texted her?
Yeah yeah..if you already guessed it..
Why do you think the person texted her?????
Fill me in guys!!!!
