Lizzie and Izzy entered the operations center and walked over to the conference table. Lizzie stood next to her husband, and Izzy stood next to Sebastian.

The blonde girl glanced briefly at Sebastian. His body language said the Brit was nervous about something.

- Sorry I'm late. Lizzie and I have been looking all over for Max. Has anyone seen him? - Izzy asked them and she looked around the group.

- Have you been to the armory? - Jace asked her and Lizzie. - He's probably sharpening his blades for his first assignment - Jace stated when he looked at her and then at his sister.

- We checked - Lizzie told him.

- We have more pressing matters. Thanks to Dot's help, we now have the Mortal Mirror - Alec told them.

- And you have it at the Institute and it's well guarded, as I assume? - Sebastian asked him.

- Only the Elite Guards know its location. It's safest that way - Alec told him.

- Jonathan went after Elliot and Dot to get the Mirror. Now that he knows we have it, he's going to come back for it - Clary told him.

- I agree. Report ye all the possible scenarios where Jonathan and Valentine could try to break in - Alec told her.

- Okay - Jace told him before he left with Sebastian and Clary.

- Alec, can we talk in private? In our room? - Lizzie asked him when she looked at him.

- Yes - Alec replied and they went to their room.

- I'm telling you Alec, Sebastian maybe could be Jonathan Morgenstern - Lizzie said to Alec when she closed their bedroom door so no one would hear them.

- Honey you're just oversensitive because Jonathan is out and anyone could be him - Alec said.

- Think about it. Sebastian appeared out of nowhere. He was there when we were talking to Dot and probably saw the mark on her wrist. he not is stupid, so figured out that the mark led to the Angel Mirror. Then he followed us when we went to get the Mirror - Lizzie said angrily as she looked at her husband. - And now he's trying to ask you where it is, that's definitely not suspicious - The blonde girl said sarcastically.

- You're falling in paranoid - Alec told her, who dismissed her suspicions.

- That's not true and if we don't stop him, someone innocent will definitely get hurt - Stated the blonde who she was determined to protect her family.

- Where are you going? - Alec asked her.

- I going found Max - Lizzie replied and looked at him, then left the room.

A few minutes later Lizzie was helping Izzy look for Max. The blonde girl was worried about the fact that there had been no contact with the boy for several hours and she was afraid that Jonathan had caught him.

The girls walked down the hallway until they saw blood stains on the floor, so they followed their trail and ended up in Izzy's room. Both girls immediately ran to Max when they saw him lying unconscious on the floor, with a bleeding nose.

At that sight, Lizzie's heartbeat quickened. At that moment, she preferred to be wrong than for her premonition to turn out to be true.

- Max, can you hear me? Max? - Izzy asked him and she tried to wake him up, but the boy didn't react. - Someone call a medic!

Max was transported to the infirmary and was being examined by the doctors. Tears were streaming down Lizzie's cheeks as she looked at her injured brother-in-law, who was lying on the bed with a bandage on his head.

- I tried using an iratze rune to wake him, but nothing's working - Izzy informed the doctors.

- What happened? - Alec asked her as he and Clary rushed into the infirmary. The man stood next to his wife and put one arm around her waist.

- We don't know. Me and Lizzie found him like this in my room - Izzy answered.

- Oh my god, Max - Clary said when she saw Max unconscious.

- We should send him to Idris. See what they can do - Alec said and looked at his sister, who was just as worried about Max's condition as everyone else (except Sebastian).

- The medic said that in his condition, he won't be able to survive the transfer - Lizzie told him, distraught.

- Max. We checked the Institute's security footage. Whoever attacked him is somehow covering their tracks - Jace said when he and Sebastian entered the infirmary.

- Was he able to talk? - Sebastian asked her. Lizzie was observant, so she saw the fake sadness on the British man's face.

- Not yet. He's unconscious - Izzy answered him.

- I don't understand. Who could hurt him? - Clary asked.

- I don't know, but I'll find out - Alec stated and noticed the suspicion with which Lizzie looked at Sebastian.

- I don't know. But I'll find out - Jace said nervously and hugged his twin sister. - Hey. I'll get Robert and Maryse here. The rest of us, we'll find out who did this - The blonde man added after a moment and he looked at the group.

- Yeah, I'll stay with Max. If he regains consciousness, perhaps he can ID his attacker - Sebastian suggested to them.

- What did you find? - Sebastian asked as he, Jace, Lizzie, Clary and Alec, and stood at the table in the operations center.

- The box my mom kept Jonathan's stuff in - Clary answered and everyone looked at the wooden box that was sitting on the table.

- It was right where Izzy and Lizzie found Max - Jace added.

- I remember Max had his eye on it. He was so determined to prove himself - Alec said and Lizzie put her hand on her husband's.

- It's possible he found a way to use the box to track Jonathan - Jace told him.

- Wait, all this means is that Jonathan found a way to get into the Institute without us even knowing - Sebastian pointed out.

- He's Valentine's son, we've been trained to do impossible things - Jace said snidely.

- If Jonathan attacked Max and came for the Mirror... - Clary said.

- He wouldn't have left without it. Alec, he could still be in the building - Jace told them.

- Listen, we need to confirm that he's still inside - Alec told the group.

- We saw what the real Jonathan looks like. He'll be enchanted like one of our own - Jace said.

- He's hiding in plain sight - Clary said to Alec.

- Okay. Hey Sebastian, I want you and the entire staff to take on extra guard duty. The Institute is on lockdown immediately - Alec said to Sebastian before everyone started to leave.

- Waits, wait - Sebastian called out to them.

- Wait - Sebastian called out to Alec and Lizzie.

- What happened? - Lizzie asked as she and Alec turned to him.

- We'll have to beef up security outside. I can lead a team - The british suggested.

- No, we have it under control. If Jonathan is still in the building, he won't get out of here alive - Alec told them - Alec told them

- See you later - Lizzie told Alec.

- Take care of yourself and don't do anything stupid, it's Clary job - Alec told her before she walked over to them.

Izzy was sitting in a chair and holding her unconscious brother's hand, and Lizzie was sitting next to her. Both girls had their eyes red from tears.

- I haven't known Max for very long, but I know he's a fighter and he'll survive this - Lizzie tried to comfort her sister-in-law.

- You're right - Izzy told her. - I'm glad you're here - The black-haired girl confessed after a moment and put her free hand on hand the blonde girl.

- I'll always be there for you, because that's what family is for - Lizzie said with a smile and wiped the tears from her face with her sleeve.

- Sorry to interrupt - Sebastian said when he entered the infirmary.

Lizzie couldn't believe Sebastian's care and guessed that the blonde man wanted to make sure Max wouldn't tell them anything.

- We're still waiting for an answer from Brother Enoch. But Max has already overcome adversity and survived Jonathan's attack. If anyone could do it, it was him - Izzy answered him.

- Listen yous to me, you have to take care of yourself too. Yous should take a break - Sebastian said and looked at Max, then at Lizzie and Izzy.

- Uh, thanks, but we can't leave him while Jonathan is at the Institute and he could hurt him again - Lizzie said.

- Listen to me, Just a few minutes and you'll both feel better. And I'll watch Max while you're gone - Sebastian tried to convince them, but Lizzie's stubbornness wasn't helping him.

- I could use a break. Thank you - Izzy said.

At that moment the door opened and Maryse and Robert entered.

- Oh, Max - Maryse said when she saw her unconscious son.

- Mom, Dad - Izzy said and hugged them both.

- Hey Lizzie - Maryse said, then hugged her daughter-in-law, who stood up and hugged her mother-in-law back.

- Hey Maryse - Lizzie said with a smile.

- Your father and I spoke to Brother Enoch. He said that the sorcerer's magic couldn't heal Max - Maryse informed them.

- Our only hope is to allow the Silent Brothers to attempt a procedure that they only use in rare emergencies - Robert said.

- It's kind of like a brain reset - Maryse added.

- Are there any risks involved? - Lizzie asked her worriedly.

- I'm afraid so. Very few Shadowhunters have survived that - Robert replied.

- Do you still think we should do this? - Izzy asked him.

- If we don't, Max will never wake up - Maryse told her.

- I will pray for your's son - Sebastian said and Lizzie noticed a sly smile on his face as he left the infirmary.

Lizzie was looking for a way to expose Jonathan, who Lizzie believed had taken the form of Sebastian Verlac. Then she remembered that one of Valentine's journals she had read had said that Jonathan couldn't stand electrum, because of the demon's blood.

The girl knew that Sebastian wanted to steal the Angel's Mirror and then he had to somehow get out of the Institute after getting it. So she asked Izzy for the whip to extract the electrum from it. She then used it to check every shadowhunters who wanted to leave the Institute.

When Lizzie saw Sebastian approaching her, she smiled at him falsely, so as not to arouse his suspicions that she knew who the British man was. Lizzie knew she was playing a dangerous game with Sebastian (Jonathan) and could get hurt, but she couldn't let the man not pay for what he did to Dot, Elliot, or Max.

- Has the lockdown been lifted? - Sebastian asked her.

- If you can prove you're not Jonathan - Lizzie replied calmly.

- Sorry, what? - Sebastian asked, surprised.

- I found a way to expose him. I read in Valentine's journals that Jonathan can't stand electrum - Lizzie replied.

- Sure, because of the demon blood - Sebastian told her.

- Valentine wrote that he screams in pain if it touches his skin, it will burn to the bone. So I pulled some electrum out of Izzy's whip and we're having everyone hold it to see if they react - Lizzie explained.

- Well, I'm very impressed. Seems Jonathan's finally met his match - Sebastian told her.

- Don't take it personally - Lizzie said and went to another guard who gave her the electrum.

- If you have to go, just hold this for a few seconds - Lizzie informed him and handed it to him.

- I was just wondering, actually, um... if you caught Jonathan, you wouldn't kill him, right? - Sebastian asked her.

- I don't judge anyone, but after what he did to Elliot and Dot, and now Max, I know there's no saving him and I'll kill him the moment I see him - Lizzie replied.

The girl didn't say anything as the blonde man hesitated to take the electrum in his hand.

- Well. Can we? - Sebastian asked her and Lizzie put the electrum in his hand. Sebastian closed his hand and smiled at her.

- You're welcome. I think I passed your test - Sebastian said when he gave her the electrum after a few seconds and then walked away from her.

- Sebastian! Wait! Hey - Lizzie shouted and ran after him, the man stopped and turned to Lizzie. - Hey, you forgot something - The blonde girl stated when she grabbed his wrist and saw a large red burn on his hand, thanks to which she was 100% sure it was Jonathan.

Sebastian immediately pressed the red button with his free hand, the elevator closed, and Lizzie was stuck with him. The girl pulled out her dagger and plunged it into him as Sebastian grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up. With his other hand, he pulled the dagger out of himself before dropping it on the floor.

- After ten years of torture in Edom, I learned to endure pain. In fact, I even like it - Sebastian said to her and kiss Lizzie in mounth. - I wanted you... and the Mirror. But if I can't have both... - The man continued and looked at her.

Lizzie didn't let him finish, she just pulled out her other blade and cut his pocket when she saw the Angel Mirror there. The mirror fell to the floor. The blonde girl stabbed Clary's brother in the neck and picked up the Mirror, then put it in her pocket. 

The girl turned to the door, drew a rune, and the glass exploded. The girl flew through it to the other side.

The guards, Jace, Clary, and Alec ran towards her. Sebastian pulled Lizzie's blade from his neck as Jonathan fled the Institute, the guards running after him.

- Lizzie! Are you okay? - Jace asked as he and Alec ran to her.

- Yes - Lizzie answered him.

- Go after him - Alec ordered the guards. - Where's Jonathan? - Alec asked Lizzie before he and Jace helped her up.

- I don't know. He ran away - The blonde girl answered him.

- Are you okay? - Clary asked her and she approached them.

- Yes - Lizzie answered.

- Did he get the Mirror? - Jace asked.

- No - Lizzie answered and pulled the Angel's Mirror out of her jacket pocket.

- And no one will ever use it to destroy the Underground - Clary said as she took the Mirror from the Lizzie hands, pulled out her stele and began to draw a rune on it.

- What are you doing? - Alec asked her and he looked at her.

- By nullifying his powers. Just like I did with the Soul Sword - Clary explained. - What just happened? - The redhead girl asked after a moment as the four them saw that the Angel's Mirror had turned to dust.

- I don't know, but I doubt it's something good - Lizzie stated.

The Lightwood family and Jace stood by Max's bed. The news that Max's surgery was a success allowed them to forget about Jonathan for a moment.

- How did it go? Is he okay? - Alec asked them when he entered the infirmary.

- Everything's okay, Alec - Izzy replied, and Alec stood next to his wife.

Everyone in the hospital heard Max groan as he woke up.

- Did ye catch Sebastian? - Max asked them.

- You almost died, and that worries you? - Maryse asked him with a smile.

- I should go now. Max, take care of yourself - Magnus spoke up.

- Thanks for the help - Lizzie told him before he left the infirmary.

- Now that we're all here, Lizzie and I have an announcement to make - Alec announced as he and his wife stood in front of their family. Everyone looked at them. - In a few months our first child will be born - The man said with a smile and put his hand on his wife's rounded belly, which Lizzie was hiding under a loose dress.

- By Raziel I will be a grandmother - Maryse said and walked up to them. - Congratulations my dears - The woman said and hugged them.

- Congratulations son and Lizzie - Robert said, who also hugged his son and daughter-in-law.

- Saving me from Azazel, that must have been part of Jonathan's plan - Izzy said as she, Jace, Lizzie, Clary and Alec sat in Alec and Lizzie's office. - I was the one who brought him to the Institute.

- Don't say that. We're all responsible for this - Alec said and put his hand on his sister's shoulder. - Only Lizzie suspected something was wrong with him and wanted to prove it. But that doesn't mean she wasn't stupid to try to do it herself - Alec stated and looked at Lizzie.

- I had to do something to expose him and I did - Lizzie told him, who was sitting on the desk next to her brother.

- At least now we know Valentine will never get the Mirror and resurrect Angel - Clary told them.

- I'm not so sure. Look, even with our pure angel blood, doesn't it seem odd that Clary's runes would be powerful enough to destroy the Mortal Instrument? And why didn't they destroy the Sword? - Jace asked.

- What if the mirror I destroyed isn't the Mortal Mirror? - Clary said as when stood up from the table she was sitting on.

Everyone looked at her.

- Then why would your mother give it to warlock to protect? - Jace asked her.

- Maybe she thought so, we all did. Maybe whoever made it wanted it to be that way - Clary told them and walked over to the painting of Lake Lyn.

- To distract people from finding the real one - Lizzie pointed out

- Well, legend has it that the Mirror isn't easy to find. That the Angels hold the key... - Jace told them.

- Water. It's a reflection - She said and she turned to the group.

- What water? What are you talking about? - Asked Jace surprised when he looked at her.

- I didn't destroy the Mirror. These visions I have are a message from the Angel. The Mirror is Lake Lyn - Clary told them.

When Alec was alone with his wife he decided to talk to her.

- I wanted to apologize for disregarding your hunch about Sebastian... and implying that you were paranoid - Alec started a conversation with his wife.

- Alec we don't have to talk about this - Lizzie stated.

- And I do - Alec told her. - I should have trusted you and helped expose Sebastian, but I let him manipulate me - The man continued and put his hand on his wife's hand.

- He manipulated everyone - Lizzie noticed.

- Don't make excuses for me, you're too good for me - Alec said to her.

- Alec we are married, and that means we will argue and make up - Lizzie told him. - We have to catch Jonathan and Valentine, and when we defeat them, we will be good parents to our child - Lizzie added with a smile.

- You are lucky I married such a beautiful and intelligent woman - Alec said and kissed her on the lips, and she returned the kiss.

Alec and Lizzie were destined for each other and despite the misunderstandings and obstacles they met on their way (and probably will meet in the future), they loved each other more than anything in the world.
