Humans; what a silly species.

We haven't got a clue

As to what

We were put

On this earth to do.

Why do we wait

To appreciate

The things that matter most

Until the very last second

When we think they might be lost?

Once we've seen

That was has been

May no longer be,

Our eyes, at last, are opened

And maybe we ought to see

The worth in the things for which we care.

Things that weren't always meant to be there.

Humans; what silly creatures.

Have we learned nothing from our teachers?

The ones who came before us,

Made our same mistakes.

Why do we simply make a fuss

When things don't go our way?

We know the way of the world;

It takes and takes and takes.

But we don't learn

Instead we yearn

For the world to just obey.

Why don't we think two steps ahead?

The future lies in wait!

Do we really prefer this sick regret

That weighs down every gait?

How much better off we'd be

If our gratitude were a guarantee

For soon we'll lose

The things we use

And only took for granted.

How painful you'll see

It is to be left empty handed.
