The room was dimly lit, the thick and heavy curtains were drawn down to block the harsh daylight. Taehyung stood by the side of the bed looking down at his mother, Soomin. Her vibrant features had paled, her breath coming weak, the poison was slowly draining the life from her.

Soomin's frail hand rested in Taehyung's as if he wanted he could somehow anchor her to the world a little longer. His expression revealed a flicker of warmth, a rare tenderness reserved only for her.

"Mother," Taehyung's voice was soft, very different and rare to the commanding tone he used with everyone else.

"I'm here."

Soomin opened her eyes weakly, now a small task as simple as eye-opening felt like a burden to her body. She managed a weak smile as she looked at her son. "My Taehyung," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Taehyung leaned closer, his free hand brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead. "I'll find a way," he said, his voice laced with desperation. "I promise I won't let this poison take you."

Soomin's smile remained, but there was a sadness in her eyes. "You can't protect me from everything, my son," she murmured. "But I know you'll try, just as always."

Taehyung's grip tightened slightly, "You're all I have, Mother," he whispered, the vulnerability in his voice bringing out the depths of his fear. "I can't lose you."

Soomin's hand gently squeezed his. "And I'm so proud of the man you've become," she said softly. "But remember, Taehyung, even the strongest of us need help sometimes. You don't have to carry this burden alone."

For a moment, Taehyung's stoic mask slipped entirely, revealing the pain and love he held for her. He nodded silently, unable to speak as her words settled on him. A few minutes passed, and the room was filled with Soomin's silent breathing. Taehyung was lost in his thoughts, unknowingly caressing his mother's knuckles.

Taehyung hesitated slightly as he spoke. "Grandma mentioned that Jungkook might be able to help you. She believes thatโ€”"

He faltered, unsure how to continue, because Soomin's eyes hardened with anger. The sadness that had once filled her gaze was now taken by bitterness and hate. Her voice carried anger. "So now, a courtesan's daughter is expected to save me? Is that what this is about?"

Taehyung hesitated, his brow furrowing. He shifted slightly, struggling to find the right words. ". It's... it's about any possibility of help. I didn't mean toโ€”"

Soomin's frustration cut him off. "You think a simple gesture or a cure can resolve everything? The deep wounds? Do you honestly believe that?"

Soomin's eyes held a sharp edge of loathing as she spoke.

"Taehyung, promise me, swear to your mother that you will not marry Jeon Jungkook. I would rather face death than accept her as my daughter-in-law."

The bitterness in her tone was visible, no doubt, and her gaze was filled with a deep-seated hatred towards Jungkook. her words hung in the room, making the air tense.

Taehyung took his mother's hand gently, "Sure, Mother. This is Kim Taehyung's promise."

His hand pressed firmly against hers, a gesture that was both a vow and a sign of his commitment to her wishes, even as his heart wrestled with the decision.

Soomin's breathing grew shallow, her eyelids fluttering as she struggled to stay conscious. Taehyung's heart raced, "Mother," he whispered urgently, but her grip on his hand slackened, and her eyes finally closed.

"MOTHER!" he called out, his voice filled with panic. But there was no response. Her body went limp, sinking further into the bed.

"MOTHER," Taehyung yelled again, rubbing his mother's hands hastily. He looked around searching for anything or anyone which could cure his mother.

Just then, the door to the room opened and Taehyung's grandmother entered. Behind her was Rosie, entered, a woman with magic in her veins. Rosie's eyes shimmered with a golden glow, proof of the magic she carried within her.

The grandmother's expression was grave as she moved quickly to Soomin's side. "She's fading fast," she murmured, her voice filled with concern. She looked to Rosie, who stepped forward.

Rosie placed her hand gently on Soomin's forehead, closing her eyes as she concentrated. A faint glow originated from her palm, but after a moment, she shook her head, pulling back with a deep sigh.

"The poison is too deep," Rosie said softly, "My magic isn't enough to heal her."

Taehyung's heart sank and he fought to keep his emotions in check. His voice wobbled with urgency.

"W-W hat's happening to my mother?" he demanded,

Rosie's gaze met his, she hesitated, as if reluctant to speak the truth. Finally, she took a deep breath and replied, "Your mother is... dying."

The words struck Taehyung like a blow, his breath catching in his throat. "No," he said, shaking his head as if trying to reject the reality of her words. "There must be something you can do. Anything."

Rosie met his gaze, "There is one way! But it's beyond my abilities. The only one who can truly heal her is Alara."

"Alara?" Taehyung repeated, looking at Rosie with hopeful eyes.

Rosie's eyes were filled with sorrow as she spoke. "Only Alara can heal Soomin. Her magic, her presence is the only force strong enough to combat the poison that's destroying your mother. You need to marry her."

As soon as Rosie mentioned Alara, Taehyung's mind froze and a name suddenly bubbled up from the depths of his memoryโ€”Jeon Jungkook.

But another memory surfacedโ€”his mother's sharp, demanding voice. The promise not to marry Jungkook.

But now, with his mother's life hanging by a thread, that promise felt like a suffocating metal chain around his heart. Jungkook was the only one who could save herโ€”Alara was the only one who could save her. Yet, to ask for Jungkook's help, to bring her into this, Taehyung would be going against his mother's dying wish.

Taehyung's mind whirled, torn between the desperate need to save his mother and the guilt of breaking the promise he had made. His jaw clenched, his eyes filled with a storm of emotions as he looked at Rosie, who was watching him expectantly.

"I can't marry Jungkook," Taehyung finally said, his voice strained, the words thick with the conflict warring within him. He looked away, unable to meet Rosie's eyes. "I promised my mother that I wouldn't. She asked me not to... not to marry Jungkook."

Rosie's brow furrowed in confusion and then understanding dawned.

"But Taehyung," she said softly, "you need to marry her. If you don't, the consequences for this house will be far worse than you can imagine. Alara's power isn't just in healingโ€”it's in protection. Without her by your side, this household, this land, will face problems that are... uncountable."

Taehyung's eyes snapped back to hers, his gaze filled with fear and defiance.

"What are you saying?" he demanded, "How can marrying Jungkook protect us from that?"

Rosie took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully.

"Alara's magic is ancient, tied to the Earth's foundation. By marrying her, you're not just joining two livesโ€”you're binding her power to your family, to your home. Her magic would become a part of your bloodline, a shield against the dark forces that harm your family. Without that bond, the marriage, even the protection she offers will falter.

The poison that has taken hold of your mother... it's only the beginning."

"You don't understand," Taehyung said, his voice dropping to a near whisper, heavy with the struggle between his heart and his duty.

"She asked me not to, Rosie," Taehyung pointed to his weak mother, "My mother made me swear, and I can't break that promise now, not when she's... like this."

Rosie's expression softened, "I understand the burden of a promise, Taehyung. But sometimes, we ought to choose between the promises we've made and the lives we must protect."

The room fell silent. Taehyung's thoughts stirred, the image of his mother lying unconscious on the bed was soul-wrenching for him. He glanced at her pale face, the woman who had raised him, who had taught him strength and resolve, now slipping away because of a poison that only Jungkook could cure.

Rosie's eyes were serious as she met Taehyung's gaze and she explained further.

"You need to marry Jungkook within the next 24 hours. The bond between you two must be sealed by the time the sun sets tomorrow. If you wait any longer, the poison will reach a point where even Alara's magic won't be able to save your mother."

"24 hours!" Taehyung repeated to himself.

ย  ย  ย  โ†ชJungkook's House

Taehyung reached Jungkook's house and he paused, taking the sight before him. The house was beautifully decorated, with garlands of yellow flowers draped over the entrance and lanterns hung in the corridors. He hesitated, then pushed forward, stepping inside the house.

The inside was also as beautifully adorned as the outside, with more flowers and candles around the mini garden. Taehyung's eyes scanned the room, taking in the details, when something on a nearby table caught his attention.

A wedding invitation card, resting on the top of a lace cloth.

He moved closer, his hand reaching out to pick up the card, his breath catching in his throat as he read the words inscribed in elegant script:

| Jeon Jungkook weds Lee Sangwoon |

Taehyung's heart dropped and the words on the card became blurred as he felt disbelief.

Jungkook was getting marriedโ€”to someone else.

The shock hit him like a wave, his grip tightening on the invitation as his mind raced to make sense of what he was reading. The house, the decorations, it all made sense now. Jungkook's family was preparing for her wedding.

The realization was like a knife to his chest and for a moment, he couldn't breathe. He had come here to ask her to marry him, to save his mother, to bind their lives together out of necessityโ€”and now, it seemed....Difficult.

Jungkook was already promised to another man, someone named Lee Sangwoon. The thought of it twisted something deep inside him.

Taehyung let out a shaky breath, his eyes still fixed on the invitation. He felt an overwhelming loss as if something precious had been taken from him before he even had a chance to claim it. Yet, he knew he couldn't turn back now.

His mother's life was still at risk, and Jungkookโ€”Alaraโ€”was still the only one who could save her.

He placed the invitation back on the table with trembling hands. The clock was ticking and he was running out of time. He had to find Jungkook, to speak to her, no matter what.

Even if it meant shuffling her life, plans, and her future. he had no choice.

Taehyung's thoughts turned to the groomโ€”Lee Sangwoon. He barely knew the man. His mind raced with questions.

Who was Lee Sangwoon?

Taehyung stepped outside and pulled out his phone. He stood beside a tree and dialled the number of one of his most trusted men. As soon as the call connected, he spoke, "Justin, I need you to find out everything you can about a man named Lee Sangwoon."

There was a brief pause on the other end before Justin responded, "Understood, sir. I'll get on it right away. Do you have any more details about him?"

Taehyung frowned, trying to recall anything he might have heard about the man.

"No, nothing specific. But he's marrying Jeon Jungkook, daughter of Jeon Kara. Start with the wedding preparations, see who's involved, and dig into his background. I want to know who he is, where he comes from, and his intentions."

Justin replied, "Consider it done. I'll have a report for you as soon as possible."

"Good," Taehyung said, his tone firm.

"Of course, sir."

Taehyung ended the call, his mind still spinning with all the things happening in his life. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. Taehyung paced in front of the house, the tension building with each passing minute.

Finally, his phone buzzed. The notification on the screen revealed a message from Justin. Taehyung's heart raced as he opened the message, scanning through the information.

The words stopped him cold.

"Lee Sangwoon is already married. He has a wife and a child."

Taehyung felt shocked when his mind understood the words. How could this be possible? How could Jungkook be engaged to a man who was already married, with a family of his own? The very idea was infuriating.

He quickly dialled Justin's number, which was answered on the first ring.

"Justin," Taehyung's voice was tense, barely controlled. "Tell me everything. How did you find this out?"

The man's voice was calm and professional, as he replied, "I dug into Lee Sangwoon's background. his records were mostly clean, but I found some inconsistencies that led me to look deeper. He's married. His wife and child live in another town."

Taehyung gritted his teeth, his mind racing. His anger was barely contained as he turned back to look at Jungkook's house. The revelation about Sangwoon had ignited a fire within him, a protective instinct that overpowered all else. He needed to see Jungkook, to tell her the truth before it was too late.

How could Jungkook even consider marrying a man like that?

Taehyung barely noticed the decorations of the Jeon household as he strode through the front door. His mind was consumed with a single purposeโ€”finding Jungkook. The door hinges creaked with his forceful actions, but before he could call out jungkook's name, a figure stepped into his path, blocking his way.

Kara stood before him, her smile sharp and evil. Taehyung had always sensed something off about her, something harsh beneath the warm motherly surface. Now, as she looked at him with that smile, he felt anger.

"Where? Where? Mister! Is this your garden that you came to stroll around?" Kara's voice was cutting. She did not attempt to hide her scorn as she stood in his way, her posture rigid.

"Miss Jeon," Taehyung said, "I need to speak with Jungkook. It's urgent."

Kara's eyes narrowed, the smile fading as her gaze turned icy. "And who are you to decide what's urgent in my house? What gives you the right to storm in here as if you own the place?"

Taehyung took a step closer, his height and presence towering over her, but Kara remained unfazed. "I found out something about Lee Sangwoon. He's already married. He has a wife and a child. Jungkook can't marry him."

Kara's expression remained stoic, but there was a flicker of amusement in her eyes that only increased Taehyung's frustration.

"Oh, Young Master Kim," she trailed, her tone dripping with saccharine, "I already know about Sangwoon's... other family."

Kara's words hit Taehyung like a punch to the gut. He stared at her, disbelief and anger rising within him. "You knew?" he demanded, his voice rising slightly.

"You knew, and you're still letting this wedding go on?"

Kara shrugged, her smile turning cold and sharp. "Of course, I knew. And why wouldn't I let it happen? Jungkook is well aware of the situation too. She's made her decision."

The revelation was like ice water being poured over him. Taehyung could barely process itโ€”Jungkook knew?

"Jungkook knows?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper as if he was afraid to hear the answer.

Kara's eyes glinted with a cruel satisfaction. "Yes, she knows. But she understands what's at stake. Marrying Sangwoon will bring immense benefits to our family. He's wealthy and powerful. A few... complications won't stand in the way of that."

Taehyung felt a wave of nausea rises within him. The idea that Jungkook would knowingly agree to marry a man who was already bound to another family, sacrificing her happiness for material gain, twisted something deep inside him.

It didn't align with the Jungkook he knew, the one who was full of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength.

"Kara," Taehyung began slowly, his voice trembling with the anger he struggled to contain, "if you're lying to meโ€”"

Kara cut him off with a sharp, mocking laugh. "Lying? What would I gain from lying to you? Jungkook knows exactly what she's doing. She's not as naive as you think, Kim. She knows what's best for her and for this family. If you're determined to speak with her, you're wasting your time."

Taehyung's jaw clenched. "You're letting this wedding happen, despite everything? What kind of mother are you?"

Kara's face twisted into a malicious smirk, her eyes narrowing as she leaned in closer, her voice low but laced with venom.

"What kind of mother am I?" she hissed, her tone dark and dripping with condescension.

"I'm the kind of mother who understands power, Taehyung. one who knows what's good for her family. And right now, what's good for us is for you to leave. You have no right to interfere with decisions that aren't yours."

Taehyung's hands clenched into fists, but he remained calm. "I'm not leaving until I've spoken with Jungkook."

Kara turned colder, her voice dripping with disgust. "I've already told you that she knows everything and is perfectly aware of what she's doing. If you continue this intrusion, I'll be forced to call the authorities. Now, leave my house before you make things worse."

The finality in Kara's voice left no room for negotiation. Taehyung was helpless. With a last, frustrated look towards Kara, he turned on his heel and walked towards the door.

This didn't sound like the Jeon Jungkook he knewโ€”the kind, strong, and gracious spirit who would do anything for those she loved.

Taehyung had to find Jungkookโ€”he had to understand what was happening. This wasn't over. Not yet.

The idea that jungkook would knowingly sacrifice her happiness for material gain didn't align with the image of her that had rooted itself in his heart. Something wasn't right and he needed to hear it from her lips. He needed to see her eyes, to feel the truth in her voice, to understand why she was allowing this to happen.

There was a burning need in his chest, an urgency to get to her, to pull her out of whatever darkness she had been dragged into. Kara's words had disturbed him, planting doubt and confusion, but they hadn't shaken his will. He knew Jungkookโ€”her soul was too pure, too good, to be tainted by the greed and manipulation that Kara revelled in.

No, this wasn't over.

He had to find Jungkook, to talk to her, and he had to protect herโ€”from Kara, from Sangwoon, from this entire twisted situation.

Because if Taehyung didn't, who would?

Taehyung sank into the driver's seat of his car, the events of the day pressing heavily on him. he stared out through the windshield, the world outside appearing dim and unfocused. His thoughts were a tangled mess of frustration, duty, and conflicting emotions.

Just then, his phone rang. It was Grandma Kim. Taehyung hesitated before answering, his finger trembling slightly as he pressed the call button.

"Taehyung," Grandma Kim's voice was weakened, "I'm sorry to call you again, but the situation with Soomin is worsening. Rosie says she's slipping away, and time is running out. We need to act fast."

"Yes Grandma," Taehyung replied blankly staring into a void.

Taehyung closed his eyes, trying to shut out the world and find some clarity in the darkness behind his lids. The urgency in Grandma Kim's voice, the revelations about Jungkook and Sangwoon, made his mind spin in circles.

He opened his eyes, the car interior illuminated only by the faint glow of the streetlights. He was surrounded by shadows, both literal and metaphorical. what he faced was more complex than imagined, a maze of right and wrong, duty and morality. He took a deep breath, his mind made up.

"No matter what, I will marry Jungkook. It's clear now that this is the only way to ensure my mother's safety. I've been struggling with this decision, trying to weigh my principles against the needs of my family. But the reality is that I have to take this step.

If marrying Jungkook is the way to secure my mother's health and ensure my family's future, then I will do it."
