Chapter Thirteen : Magic Can't Fix Everything

A few days later

"Send her in," Catelyn ordered.

"Whom, I may ask?" replied Robb.

"That demon, SEND HER IN!" roared the grieving matriarch. Robb had never heard her scream like that, not giving birth to Rickon.

"Mother, magic has its limitsβ€”"

"I don't care, Robb! She has turned Lyarra and Arya against us, and you're telling me that she can't heal Bran!? Send her here, and let her prove to us that she means no harm, NOW! " Catelyn bellowed. Having no choice, Robb exited the room, not noticing Lyarra hidden behind one of the pillars.

The ice princess found her friend in the Gods' woods, honing her seer magic. She seemed so focused, something Lyarra rarely saw the past few days. She knew that she should not disturb her friend, but this was urgent.

"Samara?"

The Sourceess stopped practicing and stood up. She had also felt the blues come to her; she too saw Bran as a brother.

"Is this about him?"

"Yes. Mother wants you to heal him."

"Lya, I am so sorry but I have not reached that level of skill. I'm still learning about my powers like you."

"Mother will not have it; she is getting desperate, and she's blaming you for what happened to Bran, as always."

"I had nothing to do with his fall, and I can certainly not heal a broken spin spine."

"Not unless we do it together"

Both ladies exited the forestry, hand in hand. They had to stay strong; Lyarra for Bran and Samara for her safety.

Samara entered the room, noticing the pile of articles on one side of the table; circular mandalas featuring the Seven-Pointed Star.

"Lady Stark, I apologize for what happened toβ€”"

"Apologize? You could have used your magic to stop his fall! Because of you, my eldest daughter has turned against me, and so has Arya. My family started to crumble since you came here. If you do not want to be handed to rapers and wildlings, heal my son! " Catelyn demanded.

" You won't be handing Samra to anyone because I will turn anyone that harms her into ice sculptures " Lyarra threatened as she entered the room closing the door behind her.

"You're still defending her? What has she done to you, Lyarra? Your brother lies here, inches from death and you're still siding with that friend of yours?." her mother shot back.

It was at that moment that she noticed the crow feather on the sorceress's shoulder.

" Did you know that crows are omens of death? " she hissed. Samara realise that she had not hidden her mentor's keepsake well enough.

" My lady, it's not what you thinkβ€”"

"Heal my son. Make him walk again, or I will cut your throat and hand it to your foreign mentor."

That left no room for debate. Pressured and grieving, Samara stood in front of Bean's bed.

Oh, Goddess of Sun and life
Hear my plea and change this child's plight
May blood flow and restore his broken spine
Bring back the skill, lost to time!"

To Catelyn s surprise, she heard not one, but two voices saying the chant.

A circle of golden light burst forth from Lyarra's and Samara's hands, converging into Bran's legs. The light grew brighter and brighter, but something was awry. A third voice was whispering in the wind as the two mages tried their best to wake the young boy.

"L-Lya? Samara?."

It worked, my special boy is... huh?

Then it happened.

"NOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

A loud explosion pummelled the mages away from Bran, who had fallen back asleep. Catelyn was stunned as she saw her daughter and her best friend pass out from exhaustion.

She finally understood the whispers.

It was the foreign wizard's warning.

Now, only the scattered hairs of that lone crow feather lay witness to Samara's efforts and her greatest mistake, not seeing her daughter for who she was.

Ned burst into the room, the explosion and mysterious scream having woken him from his slumber. Robb and Jon followed him, horrified to see the situation that had transpired after the healing attempt failed.

" Cat what happened in here " Ned questioned.

" Lyarra, Samara " Jon yelled making his way towards the two fallen girls.

" Lya " Robb screamed, taking his fallen sister in his arms.

" Ned, I " Catelyn trailed off.

"What happened cat " Ned yelled in anger.

"... Forgive me, Ned!" Catelyn sobbed.

"I just wanted our sΓΈn to be normal again, and I β€”"

"You forced our daughter and Samara to perform a spell too advanced for them? Cat, magic can't fix everything!"

" I tried to tell her the same thing but she didn't listen " Robb added.

" Father, they're not waking up " Jon cried out holding Samara and Lyarra in his arms tears starting to fall from his face.

" Ned, I'm sorry. "Catelyn cried out.

" How could you be reckless Cat " Ned bellowed.

Samara soon awoke with a gasp, " Samara you're okay " Jon signed in relief.

" Is Bran healed? " Samara asked.

" No, it didn't work " Ned answered looking at Sourceess in pity.

" Why isn't Lyarra waking up " Robb demanded, trying to shake his sister who was still unconscious

" She's new to magic and inexperience it may take a few days for her to wake up " Samara explained.

Before Ned say anything that he might regret, the room's windows suddenly opened, courtesy of the wind picking up its gustiness. Samara had no time to react as the hairs on the broken pieces of the crow feather glowed silver.

This is a warning, Lady Stark Harm my fellow sorceress again, and I promise in the name of Suguwara no Hayate; I shall slit your throat open, and feed your corps to the Others. Heed my words, and you will be safe.

That was all it took to leave the Tully in shock and silence.

" Now look what you did Mother now you've angered a powerful sorcerer we may be cursed now " Robb hissed at his mother's foolishness.

" Robb I was thinking of Bran here he lays unconscious I had to try to get him back " Catelyn cried out

" what about Samara and Lyarra they could've died from overusing their magic too much Lady Catelyn " Jon snapped.

" You could've killed them, kill your daughter " Jon yelled.

" Don't talk to me like that bastard, Ned get your bastard son under control " Catelyn growled.

"Catelyn, ENOUGH! You almost killed her and Lyarra, and for what? He won't be able to walk again anyway!" Ned roared. The quiet wolf had finally snapped.

"Fuyutsuki... Isn't known to be very forgiving, and if he invokes Suguwara no Hayate in his warnings, he'll certainly go through with it." Samara elaborated.

" keep quiet demon " Catelyn hissed.

"IT'S TRUE! You cannot riskβ€”"

Another uneasy silence filled the room as everyone looked out of the window. A humanoid figure with wings floated above the broken tower, stoic-faced. He appeared to pick something from the floor, tossing it towards his descendant's friend.

Hair, golden and wavy. What does this mean....?

Ned, Robb, and Jon did not care so much about that mysterious man. Jon helped Robb transport Lyarra back to her chambers, not minding Catelyn s feeble protests.

They emerged from the room, tired and throats sore from screaming. Arguing while someone was so close to death took a toll on them all, especially Lyarra.

"Are you all right, Samara?" asked Jon.

"Yes. It's Lya we have to worry about." the sorceress replied. She understood where Lady Catelyn was coming from, but the Tully Trout was being irrational. She held the evidence close, seeing if anyone would intercept their travel.

And indeed, there were obstacles to their destination.

The Kingslayer, The Bold, and the Adipose Rex.

" Your grace " Robb, Jon, and Samara said in union with a bow shock to see him there.

" Seven hells what happened," Robert asked looking down at the eldest stark girl who was passed out cold.

" um well " Robb trailed off before Samara spoke up

" Lady Lyarra had a little fall she hit her head on some stone steps, we took her to the masters she'll be fine just needs to rest your grace," Samara said.

Good thinking, Samara mused Jon. He, Robb, and the lone sorceress moved past the three men, anxious.

" We should be taking her to her chambers now your grace " Robb spoke up.

" Is she alright?" Jaime asked staring down at the young ice dragon in concern he don't know what but seeing her so vulnerable caused something inside of him.

He never felt that kind of pain when Cersei was unwell or vulnerable.

Noticing the stares Jon and Robb were giving him, the golden Lannister Knight exited the room. It still didn't stop him from worrying.

He did not know where to go; no one would unlock the gates of the Godswood for a Southerner. He instead sat near the training yard, contemplating his life.

but he had been a conflicted knight. With two of the oaths betraying each other, he had to choose.

He may have made the right choice, yet he was hated for it.

Kingslayer

Man without Honor

Those sheep never went through what he did; defending the innocent was far more honorable than submitting to the orders of a madman playing at governance.

It was not about burning people alive.

If only people could see that. I sacrificed my honor to protect them, now they hate me for it
