It was the day of their finals, and Y/N and Hermione were waiting for their Runes examination while the others were waiting for their Divination examination. The two girls knew best not to waste their time on such class.
"Y/N, quiz me again- please? Pretty please?" Hermione begged, when Hannah Abott came out of Professor Vector's room.
Y/N tried her best not to roll her eyes.
"Hermione, I've already quizzed you five times." She said, trying to contain her annoyance. "Plus, you're the best at Runes. You'll nail everything."
"Oh, but I won't!" Hermione kept on fussing. "I'll mess up everything!"
"You've been saying that for all the classes and all you messed up was running away from your Boggart." Y/N reminded her.
"Miss Hermione Granger," Professor Vector called from her office. Hermione squealed and gathered her things quickly.
"See you, Y/N." She said and practically sprinted into Professor Vector's room.
Y/N chuckled to herself and waited quietly.
After a very long hour or two, the two girls were finished with their examinations.
Y/N groaned and ranted about how bad her head ached and Hermione went on and on about her Boggart situation.
They went to the Great Hall for dinner and found Harry and Ron slumped in the corner of the Gryffindor table, looking as exhausted as they were.
Hermione ran across the hall to them and slipped into the seat next to Ron. Ron sighed as she started her rant.
"How was your Divination exam?" Y/N asked Harry meanwhile. He let out a deep sigh.
"Quite horrible." He replied and scooped some dishes onto his plate. "Trilawny was acting weird, though. Said something about something happening tonight. Said Voldemort's most loyal servant will be back."
"I'm betting on Sirius Black." Y/N said and scoffed. "It's just a load of bull crap. Don't worry about it."
"I guess. What about you?" Harry asked.
"It went alright," Y/N replied with a shrug. "Professor McGonagall seemed impressed with my Transfiguration skills. That's all that matters."
She smiled in satisfaction and turned to the frantic Hermione.
"I swear I got all the Runes letters right," she told Ron. "but ansuz and ac were really similar-!"
"Hermione, I'm sure you did great." Y/N said firmly.
"Yeah, at least you didn't get kicked out in the middle of Professor Binns' exam." Harry smirked and glanced at Ron.
"Shut up, Harry." Ron said, but Y/N was laughing.
"You got kicked out mid examination?" Hermione frowned at the redhead.
"Yes. So you might as well not complain about yours." Ron said moodily. "At least you didn't mess up History of Magic."
Hermione stopped talking and Ron and Harry sighed in relief.
She then acted suspiciously weird. Hermione frowned slightly and tilted her head. Then, she opened her mouth and shut it immediately.
"What do you want to tell us?" Ron asked.
Hermione narrowed her eyes and turned to Y/N.
"It's just..." she started. "I realized something."
"Tell me about it." Y/N moved closer to her.
"Tell us, too," Ron chimed in and Harry nodded in agreement.
"I just realized-" Hermione started slowly. "Speaking of History of Magic, when I was studying about magical dis functions for the exams... I came across something. It was a case in Africa about a child that was an obsurial."
"My grandfather wrote about them." Y/N said quietly. "I've read some of it."
"Slow down, my brain's not processing." Ron said. "What is this obstaturial, exactly?"
"An obsucurial, Ronald," Hermione said with an eye roll. "is a young witch or wizard that develops a dark parasitical magical force called an obscurus. It's non spreadable, but it's very dangerous for them. Whenever they lose emotional control, they cause major destruction in some sort of way."
(A/N ~ This is an Obscurial):
Ron and Harry were frowning, and Y/N was nodding slowly.
"I'm catching on your theory," Y/N said thoughtfully.
"I'm not saying you are one, Y/N," Hermione said quickly. "because your powers and an obscurial's don't match up exactly, but it's probably something similar."
"And can someone stop being an obscurial?" Ron asked curiously.
"As for as far as we know," Hermione sighed. "no. It's very rare. And they die at a very young age."
"That's comforting." Y/N smiled weakly.
"No, I didn't mean it like that-!" Hermione said with wide eyes. "The destructions that you cause are way smaller than an obscurial's. You're probably something way less harmful, but it's the same concept."
"Now you're just making me worried." Harry said with a frown.
"It's not something to be worried about- it's just an observation." Hermione defended. "But I'm sure Y/N could learn how to control her powers. They might even be useful."
"To be honest, I don't really want to know what I am." Y/N said truthfully. "Right now I just want to eat dinner and go down to see Hagrid."
"Oh, right- Buckbeak's execution." Ron said sadly.
Their faces fell and they were silent for a while.
"I almost forgot about that." Harry whispered.
"We tried everything." Hermione squeaked. "We really did."
"I- I saw the assassin, on the way here..." Y/N whispered. "Macnair's his name, I think. He likes doing this stuff- it's horrible."
"Hagrid needs us with him." Harry said firmly. "We're going down to see him after dinner- deal?"
Ron, Hermione and Y/N nodded.

"Ah, come to see the show?" Malfoy sneered, Crabbe and Goyle were snickering on either side of him. The Quartet glared at them in disgust.
The three Slytherins were crouching at the stone hedges not far away from Hagrid's hut, obviously trying to witness Buckbeak's execution.
"You!" Hermione growled, pulling out her wand. "You foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!"
She pointed her wand at Malfoy's neck, making him back against the stone hedges in fear. He whimpered and stared at her wand cautiously. Y/N could see the determination in Hermione's eyes.
"Hermione, no!" Ron warned. "It's not worth it."
Y/N watched as Hermione stared at Malfoy's terrified face. For a second, Y/N really thought Hermione would hex him, but she slowly lowered her wand and turned away.
Malfoy's fear faded away and he started to snicker.
Just as he started laughing, Hermione whipped her head back and threw a satisfying fist right in the middle of Malfoy's face.
Malfoy bounced back and hit his head on the stone hedge, causing him to groan in pain.
"You OK, Malfoy?" Goyle asked in his low voice.
"What are you waiting for, go!" Malfoy said frantically, scrambling away from the four Gryffindors.
Y/N and Harry laughed loudly as the three Slytherins ran away back into the castle.
"And she'd do it again!" Y/N yelled after them. She turned back to Hermione and beamed proudly.
"That felt good," Hermione smiled. Harry and Y/N chuckled.
"Not good, brilliant!" Ron said, thumping her back.
"Let's go to Hagrid's before the ministry people come." Hermione said and their smiles disappeared. "They'll be there any moment."
The three nodded and followed Hermione's lead to Hagrid's small hut. It was quiet, and the air was filled with remorse.
"Hagrid- Hagrid, open up!" Hermione knocked on Hagrid's door rapidly, while Y/N went to say good bye to Buckbeak.
The half-bird half-Griffin was tied up in the middle of Hagrid's pumpkin patch, and it looked quite gloomy.
"Hey, it won't hurt- not really." Y/N said to the creature, stroking its beak. "I'll be with you, if they let me. But Hagrid will definitely be with you. It'll be fine-"
"Aye, get away from 'im-! Oh, it's you." Hagrid poked his ginormous face out his window. Y/N turned and smiled at her friend sadly. "Yeh lot shouldn't be here!"
Hagrid went to the door and opened it for the four to come in. They rushed into the hut and faced the puffy-eyed giant, who seemed to be crying all day. The quartet felt horrible seeing Hagrid, who was always happy, sad like this.
Y/N wiped away a tear without letting anyone see and slumped onto a chair.
"Hagrid, we're so sorry-"
"Nah, it's fine, e'rything's fine." Hagrid sniffed loudly. He wasn't crying anymore, but he definitely was, not long ago.
Fang, Hagrid's big friendly dog, rested his chin on Hagrid's leg, trying to comfort him.
"Is there anything we can do?" Ron asked kindly.
"It's all decided. Nothing yeh can do." Hagrid's replied. "Wan' some tea?"
The four Gryffindor glanced at each other and nodded.
Hagrid stood up and grabbed five mugs from the cupboard with shaking hands.
He grabbed a jug of milk and started pouring it into the mugs, spilling milk everywhere. He then let out a loud sob. The jug of milk slipped from his hands and shattered all over the floor.
"Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed.
"I'll do it, Hagrid." Hermione said firmly, standing up and cleaning up the mess.
"Thanks, Hermione." Hagrid sobbed. "There's another one in the cupboard."
Harry and Y/N patted their giant friend's back gently and Ron tried to find reassuring words to comfort him.
"We'll stay with you, Hagrid." Ron said.
"Yeah, we are." Harry chimed in.
"I think ther ruddy hell not." Hagrid barked, wiping away his tears. "Yeh're to go back to ther castle."
Y/N could see Hermione cry silently, as she bustled around making the tea.
Just as Hermione was about to pour the milk into the jug, she let out a high pitched shriek.
"What?" Y/N asked in panic. "What is it, Hermione?"
"Ron! I can't believe it- it's Scabbers!" The girl exclaimed.
Ron gaped at her.
"W-what are you taking you about?"
"In here!" Hermione tipped the milk jug over on the counter and out came a very skinny looking garden rat.
Hermione grabbed it with both hands, before it could go anywhere. Scabbers squeaked loudly as Hermione held it still.
Ron raised his eyebrows and rushed over to her side.
"Scabbers?" He said faintly. "Scabbers, what are you doing here?"
Ron scooped the squeaking rat into his hands and held it tightly as it struggled in his grip. Y/N could see it was old and was missing a finger.
It was definitely Scabbers.
"It's OK, Scabbers!" Ron said frantically when it didn't stop struggling. "There are no more cats! It's alright!"
"OUCH!" Harry yelled suddenly, gripping the back of his head. They all turned to look at him."Someone threw a rock at me-! Wait. Wait, guys. They're coming!" Harry pointed out of the window.
Y/N leaned over to see Fudge the Minister, Dumbledore and Macnair marching down the grounds. Macnair was holding a huge axe over his shoulder, and the three wizards were heading towards them.
"Go, quick." Hagrid ushered them to the back of his hut. "I don' wan' yeh to see it."
The four gave Hagrid one last look of sorrow and rushed out of the back of his cabin.
"Ouch Ron, you elbowed me!" Y/N hissed, rubbing her arm.
"Sorry, Y/N! Scabbers is- Not. Staying. Still." Ron fought his struggling pet roughly, as it squeaked in his hands.
The four ducked their head low and ran behind the giant pumpkin patch. Y/N couldn't bare looking at Buckbeak, so she kept her head low. But she just couldn't leave him there. She couldn't just let him die.
"Come on, Y/N." Harry laced his hand in hers and dragged her away from the creature.
"Harry," Y/N whispered faintly. She felt like she might be sick any second. "Harry, I can't watch. Go, quick, I don't want to hear it- please."
"Guys, go faster!" Harry said frantically to Ron and Hermione. He held Y/N's hand tightly as she started to tear up anxiously.
They ran up the hill and reached the stone hedges where Hermione had punched Malfoy earlier.
Ron stopped in his tracks.
"Ron, what are you doing- go!" Harry said in frustration motioning Y/N's uncomfortable expression.
"I'm sorry-! Scabbers- stop moving!" Ron fussed.
"Put it in your pocket!" Hermione exclaimed. She, too, was in the verge of tears. "Please just go."
"Ok- right- there, he stopped struggling." Ron sighed in relief. "Lets just go-"
But it was too late. The four heard the loud sound of Macnair's axe slicing through the air and right through something solid.
They all froze at their spot, unable to say anything. Y/N felt her lungs shrink and her face went pale. She felt sick to the stomach. Buckbeak was gone. (A/N ~ lmao sike)
Hermione let out a whimper. She broke down completely and hugged Ron's neck in despair.
Y/N was speechless, and her lips were trembling. Harry wrapped his arms around her and she nested her head in his neck. He patted her back softly and stood there in shock.
They all mourned silently at the spot, and no one spoke for a while.
"They did it- they really did." Hermione whispered.
"OUCH!"
"What now, Ron?" Harry turned to see Ron's frantic face.
"Scabbers! He bit me!" Ron had let go of his rat, and his finger was bleeding. The Rat hit the ground with a thud and scrambled away. "Scabbers, no! Come back here!"
Scabbers ran through the grass and towards a big swaying tree. Ron ran after it blindly, reaching out both of his arms.
"Ron!" His three friends shouted. But Ron didn't listen.
He dove after his rat and ignored their warnings. Finally, he launched himself forwards and caught the rat in his hands.
"Got you! You stupid fat rat." he muttered angrily. But what he didn't realise, was that he was right in front of the Whomping Willow.
"Ron, come back here!" Y/N bellowed.
"Ron, behind you!" Harry pointed at the Whomping Willow.
Ron looked up at him and his jaw dropped. He raised a shaking finger and pointed at something behind his three friends.
"No, Harry, behind you!" He shouted back. "Harry, it's the Grim!"
Y/N felt all the wind knocked out of her lungs. She turned back slowly, and to her horror, she saw a giant black dog growling dangerously. Harry and Hermione gaped at the animal in shock- but it wasn't after the three of them.
The dog practically jumped over the three and sprinted towards Ron. The redhead yelled in horror as the dog sunk its teeth into his leg.
"HAAAARRYYY!" Ron yelled. The Grim was now dragging him by the leg, and Ron's face was covered in tears. "HELP MEEE!"
"RON- NO!" Harry exclaimed, but he and Hermione were rooted to the spot.
"RON!" Y/N yelled and ran after him.
"Y/N!" Ron wailed.
Y/N dove forwards and reached out for his hand, but it was too late. She tripped over and was forced to watch Ron get dragged into a tunnel right under the Whomping Willow. His yells echoed the tunnel, and his head disappeared out of sight.
"NO!" Y/N screamed.
"Y/N, look out!" Harry yelled suddenly.
Y/N turned around to see a branch of the Whomping Willow swinging towards her. Harry ran forwards and pushed her away. The branch hit him in the stomach and he fell backwards with a loud grunt.
"Harry!" Y/N and Hermione exclaimed. But they were also thrown back by another branch of the Whomping Willow.
"Hermione, behind you!" Y/N pointed behind Hermione's head. A big branch came swinging towards the bushy-haired girl, but instead of letting it hit her, Hermione grabbed onto it.
She screamed in horror and held onto the branch for dear life. Hermione was swung around in the air dangerously, the twigs of the tree scratching every inch of her face.
"Y/N!" Hermione reached for Y/N and grabbed her arm. Y/N's eyes widened as she was forced onto the swinging branch, dangling from Hermione's grip.
"Harry!" Y/N yelled.
When the branch swung close enough to the boy, Y/N grabbed a fist full of the front of his shirt and yanked him up with them. The three yelled in horror as they were swung around by the tree.
"Let go!" Hermione said at once.
"What?!" Y/N and Harry yelled back.
"Let- go!" She pushed their hands out of the branch's grip and they were all launched right into the small tunnel Ron was dragged into earlier.
They fell into a pile with loud 'ouph's and processed what just happened in their heads.
"Oww," Hermione groaned.
"You two alright?" Y/N asked the two.
"Yeah," they replied. The three slowly stood up and looked around the tunnel. It was really small and damp, and they couldn't hear Ron's voice any longer.
"Come on," Harry said faintly.
They ran through the tunnel frantically, searching for any sign of Ron.
"I have a pretty good guess of where this leads to," Harry said.
The three continued down the small tunnel, that turned into a long corridor.
Soon enough, the three found themselves in a creaky wooden room, with old furniture lying around. They gulped as they realised where they were.
"We're in the Shrieking Shack, aren't we?" Hermione whimpered.
"Let's just find Ron," Y/N said, ignoring the fact that they were in the most haunted house in Britain.
"Ron! Where are you?!" Harry called.
"Harry!" they heard Ron's faint scream. "Up here! The first Room up here!"
The three looked at each other and sprinted up the creaky stairs.
"Ron?" Y/N looked into the first room on their left. "Ron, there you are!"
She lunged herself into the room and kneeled down beside Ron and his severely bleeding leg. Tears were stained all over his face, yet, he was still holding onto Scabbers tightly.
"Ron, where is it? Where's the dog?" Hermione asked in worry.
"Not a dog, it's not a dog," Ron's voice trembled.
"What do you mean-"
"He's the dog... he's an animagus." Ron was staring over their shoulder.
And it all clicked.
The three slowly turned back and saw a man with filthy and messy hair and ragged clothes. His eyes were dark and almost empty, and he was grinning devilishly, showing his rotten teeth- Sirius Black.
"Hello there, Harry." Black said in his raspy voice. Harry pulled out his wand, but Black was quicker. "Expelliarmus!"
Harry's wand flew from his hand, and Black caught it mid air. He grinned broadly and played with it for a while. Y/N could feel Harry's anger rise.
"Don't do anything stupid, Harry." She whispered quietly.
"If you want to kill Harry, you have to kill us, too!" Ron said, trying to hide his fear. He tried to stand up, but went pale and stumbled back down to the floor.
"Lie down," Black said quietly. "you'll hurt yourself even more."
"Do you hear me?!" Ron yelled. "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill all three of us!"
"Only one will die tonight," Black said calmly.
"Then it'll be you!" Harry bellowed. He pushed his three friends away and tackled Sirius Black to the ground. He grabbed his and Black's wand from the killer's hand and pointed them at his throat.
"Harry, don't!" Y/N warned him. She could see the determination in Harry's eyes.
"YOU- YOU KILLED MY PARENTS!" Harry pressed the tip of his wand deeper into Black's neck. "YOU DESERVE TO DIE-"
"Expelliarmus!"
The two wands in Harry's hand flew into the air and into Remus Lupin's hand. Y/N sighed in relief at the sight of her favourite professor.
Lupin was still in his teaching robes, and he was calm- he was even smiling slightly.
"Harry, move away," Lupin said, jerking his head. "Y/N, Hermione, Ron,- wand, please." The three handed the professor their wands without hesitation and rushed back to the corner of the room.
Harry scrambled to his feet and backed away. Y/N pulled his arm, getting him away from the two wizards. Lupin had his wand pointed at Black, who was lying on the floor, unarmed.
"Long time no see," Black said, a smile growing on his face. "Remus..."
Lupin grinned back, and lowered his wand immediately. Y/N felt her heart drop when Lupin pulled Black back up and hugged him like an old friend. Harry's eyes widened and Ron let out a long gasp.
"Professor Lupin..." Y/N whispered. "what's going on-?"
"I can't believe it!" Hermione suddenly bellowed.
Lupin pulled away from Black and faced her.
"Hermione, I can explain-"
"No!" Hermione shot. "I've been covering up for you and all this time, you've been helping him-"
"Hermione, listen to me, please!" Lupin said desperately.
"I've trusted you!" Hermione spat.
"Hermione, what-" Harry asked, confused.
"Harry, I've been trying to tell you- Harry, he's a werewolf!"
There was a ringing silence. Hermione was breathing heavily. Harry and Ron were in shock. Y/N knew, of course, and she also trusted him. She really trusted him. And she gave her only weapon to him so effortlessly. Now, they were trapped.
"I can't believe it." Y/N shook her head. "You were so understanding- you were trustable."
"Y/N, please just listen." Lupin said gently.
"I don't think I'll listen to anyone who's friends with a serial killer!" Y/N spat angrily.
At this, Sirius Black slightly winced and looked taken back, but no one seemed to have noticed.
"I knew not to tell anyone." Hermione said sourly. "I thought that- maybe you could be just an innocent werewolf, after knowing that not all werewolves are... cruel."
"You are the brightest witch of your age, Hermione," Lupin said with a slight smile.
"No I'm not. If I were brighter," Hermione said, "I would've reported you to Dumbledore the moment I found out you were a-"
"Dumbledore knows." Lupin said shortly. "He knows I'm a werewolf."
"He- w-what?" Hermione sounded breathless.
"Every teacher knows, actually." Lupin let out a hollow laugh. "I still don't get why they trust me, I mean- some of them don't, but-"
"Enough talking!" Sirius shouted hoarsely. "Let's kill him, Remus."
"Wait, Sirius," Lupin said in a low voice. "Harry deserves to know the truth."
"I KNOW THE TRUTH!" Harry said angrily and pointed at Black. "He was my dad's best friend and he betrayed him! He sold my parents to Voldemort! He's the reason why they're dead!"
"I don't deny that, Harry." Black said, looking at the floor. "I am the reason why Lily and James are dead, but you don't know the whole st-"
"I KNOW THE WHOLE STORY-"
"You don't." Lupin said firmly. "Just let me explain, Harry."
"How can I trust you!" Harry said in a hurt voice. "When all this time, you've been helping him!"
"I have not been helping him!" Lupin said impatiently. "If you would just- listen to me." he gave them a pleading looks.
When they all glared back at him fiercely, he sighed and threw them back their wands and his and Black's. "There. You all are armed, we aren't. Can you listen, now?"
Harry hesitated, but Y/N gave him a nod. She knew that if the two wizards tried to escape or hurt Harry in any way, she was ready to kill them in a blink of an eye.
