Y3 ☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙ In The Snow

Y/N flipped on her bed lazily and groaned. Someone was shaking her body violently for the second time of the day. It was snowing outside, and Y/N wasn't in the mood to encounter the cold air at all.

"Cut- out-" Y/N muttered and covered her face with her pillow and blanket. The person didn't stop.

"Y/N, it's almost noon! I thought you were at the library or something." Hermione said, concerned. "What happened?"

Y/N didn't reply.

"Did you just fall asleep in my face?" Hermione sighed. She yanked Y/N's blanket away, making Y/N whine childishly.

"Give me!"

"No!"

"What do you want!"

"Wake up! And explain to me why you're suddenly Ron." Hermione pulled Y/N up by the arm.

"You're so evil, Hermione Granger." Y/N said and rubbed her eyes. She looked around and saw that the dorm was bright and her other roommates were gone. "What time is it, again?"

"11:49," Hermione said grimly. Y/N's eyes grew wide.

"Oh, shit! We have Potions today!" She exclaimed. "Snape's gonna-!"

"No we don't, Y/N! It's a Saturday!" Hermione said, laughing slightly. Y/N's face relaxed and she sighed in relief.

Then, she remembered why she woke up so late. She thought back to the events that happened earlier that day and felt her face go hot.

"Care to explain why you woke up so late?" Hermione asked, thrusting Y/N fresh clothes.

"Well... have you seen Harry today?" Y/N stood up, grabbed her clothes and walked into the dormitory's bathroom.

"No, he has Quidditch practice." Hermione said slowly, picking up her cat, and sitting on Y/N's undone bed.

"Ron?" Y/N asked from the bathroom.

"With Fred and George." Hermione said.

"Brilliant!" Y/N's voice muffled from the bathroom. "I heard they were planning to prank him. I bet little Ron's probably covered in-"

"You still haven't answered my question, Y/N. What did you do last night?" Hermione repeated.

Y/N came out of the bathroom and her face was slightly red. She threw her pajamas into her trunk and sat next to Hermione.

"Well?" Hermione said impatiently. "What did you do so late last night?"

"Erm..." Y/N started. She didn't know how to explain all of it.  "M-me and Harry... were- erm-" Hermione's eyes widened and she gaped at her girl best friend.

"You did not!" She squealed. Y/N realized what Hermione meant and gasped. Hermione's mouth was hung open."I thought-!"

"Oh, Goodric, Hermione, no!" Y/N exclaimed, hitting Hermione on the arm. Hermione's face turned pink and sighed. Y/N scrunched up her face. "What the hell, no, no, no!"

"Thank Merlin," Hermione said breathlessly.

"Excuse me?"

"Tell me what happened, then!" Hermione said, still red in the face. Y/N rolled her eyes.

When the two calmed down, Y/N started to explain to Hermione about the events that happened earlier. She told her about Peter's name and Snape, but intentionally left out the part about the kiss. She silently watched as Hermione nodded slowly.

"I have to say," Hermione said. "Seeing Pettigrew on there- is odd. See, magic is not like muggle devices. It can't glitch, Y/N. It doesn't work like that."

"I don't know... Nothing explains this." Y/N frowned thoughtfully. The two sat their in silence for a while, finding an excuse for Peter Pettrigrew's appearance on the map. Hermione finally got up and sighed loudly.

"Say," she started. "I think Harry's done with Quidditch. Let's go find you some food and talk to that boy."

ϟ ͛ r⃒⃘

"Earth to Y/N," Harry grinned, ruffling Y/N's hair. He knew Y/N hadn't forgotten about the kiss from earlier that day and was grateful she didn't tell Hermione or Ron about it.

He was good at acting like things never happened, and so was she. There was no tension and no awkwardness between them. Y/N huffed and rolled her eyes playfully.

"Play nicely, Potter, I just brushed my hair." Y/N grinned at the boy and sat on the Gryffindor table next to Fred and Hermione.

The Gryffindor team members were soaking from the snow outside and looked as dead as ever.

"So how was practice?" Hermione asked them slowly, watching Ron stuff himself with fish and chips.

"Freezing." Harry and the Weasley twins said at the same time. Y/N chuckled.

"Why're you practicing so early anyways?" Ron asked, scooping a mouthful of mac n cheese into his mouth. "Yoo on't 'ave widditch till after bweak."

Hermione eyed him sourly.

"Wood's so determined to get us ready." Fred shrugged. "Quidditch isn't till January and he's already training us."

"He's becoming a mad man." Harry piped in.

"Quidditch starts 2 weeks after break, though!" Ron frowned. "That's bloody mad!"

"Go say that to Oliver." Angelina Johnson said grimly. "I bloody dare you."

Ron fell silent and went back to eating his Mac n cheese silently. Hermione and Y/N glared at him as the boy chewed loudly.

"Speaking of break, are you all staying here for Christmas?" Y/N asked, piling ketchup onto her plate.

"We are," Ron and the twins said with a smile.

"I am, too." Hermione said. Y/N smiled. Hermione never stayed at school, so she never had anyone to talk to in her dormitory. Y/N turned to Harry.

"You?" She asked. Harry scoffed and grinned.

"Nope." He said sarcastically. "I'm celebrating Christmas with my lovely Dursleys. They'd adore me for blowing up my aunt." The whole table laughed, and Ron spluttered out his water. Y/N shook her head.

"What about you, Y/N?" George asked the girl.

"Staying. Like always." Y/N smiled. Her parents were always busy during Christmas. Her mother was an Auror and was busy all the time. Her father often had to go back to America to work with her Grandmother during winter.

The Gryffindors then changed the topic and chatted excitedly about how they've been and about Lupin's lessons. Angelina Johnson said he was 'the best teacher Hogwarts has ever gotten'.

"By the way," Harry lowered his voice so that Y/N could be the only one who heard him. The others were busy discussing Lupin's lessons. "Lupin said he would teach me how to defend myself from those Dementors."

"That's brilliant, Harry." Y/N smiled. Why was he telling her this?

"He said you could come along." Harry continued. "So you can back me up when I pass out again. Since you're always with me." Y/N rolled her eyes and grinned.

"Sure. Why not." Y/N smiled.

"Brilliant." Harry felt a weird sensation spark in his stomach.

Christmas was Y/N's favorite time at Hogwarts. The castle was practically empty, since most students were home with their parents. The weather and the decorations were awesome, and she got to spend time with her friends all week long. It felt so magical.

Y/N woke up with a start on Christmas morning. She bolted up immediately and smiled at the pile of presents she'd received at the end of her bed.

"I love life." She said to herself and bounced off her bed, ignoring her messy hair and her undone bed. Damn, it was freezing.

Only Y/N and Hermione were staying in their dormitory and Hermione was still sleeping peacefully on her bed... well, not for long.

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS, HERMY!" Y/N said happily in the girl's face. Hermione let out a shriek and rolled off her bed and to the ground with a loud 'thump'. Y/N burst into laughter and pulled the girl up.

"Y/N!" Hermione scolded.

"Sorry, but I can't help it- it's Christmas!" Y/N grinned and threw Hermione her present. Hermione sighed and smiled.

"I guess that's exceptional," she shrugged and gave Y/N a squeezing hug. "Happy Christmas, Y/N." Y/N laughed and playfully pushed her away.

"Yeah, yeah, now open the present." Y/N said excitedly. Hermione unwrapped Y/N's not-so-neatly-wrapped gift. She pulled out an ancient looking book and her eyes grew wide.

"You did not buy me 'Hogwarts: Famous Alumni's'! I've been searching for this book for so long, thanks Y/N!" She flipped through the book carefully in awe.

"No problem. My grandfather owled me about it, and I remembered you wanted it, so he sent it to me." Y/N said. Hermione blushed, thinking of how the Newt Scamander had sent her her Christmas gift.

"Do you think Harry will be on here one day?" She asked, staring at a moving picture of Dumbledore.

"Probably." Y/N shrugged. "I hope I live 'till that day."

Y/N unwrapped he presents happily. She received amazing presents this year. Hermione had gotten her a shiny new quill, Ron got her a set of wax stamps, and Harry got her a F/C fuzzy beanie. It came with a hand written note:

'To Niff,

Happy Christmas, idiot. Got this beanie for you because I knew you liked F/C, and I always see you wearing those stupid fuzzy hats.

Love you (not),

Harry :)'

Y/N rolled her eyes and pouted at the knitted hat before budging it on her head.

"Aw, that's cute!" Hermione said, looking at the beaming Y/N. "Who got you that?"

"Harry- did." Y/N replied, blushing slightly. Hermione smirked knowingly, then gave her a genuine sweet smile.

"He loves you, that boy." She said to Y/N. "Yeah, he hangs out with me and Ron, but he loves you."

At this, Y/N turned fully red and looked away, avoiding Hermione's gaze. After what had happened a few weeks ago, she knew quite clearly what she felt for Harry. And she was positive Harry felt the same. But they were still young, and if anything went wrong, their friendship would be ruined.

Y/N went back to unwrapping her presents, Harry's gift sitting on top of her head.

Her mother gave her a brand new cauldron, her father gave her a book about magical creatures, Rolf gave her a leather wallet, and Molly Weasley gave her a knitted Weasley jumper.

Y/N's jumper was the perfect shade of grey and had her initial knitted in gold in the middle of it. She was the only one that wasn't a Weasley, apart from Harry, that got a Weasley jumper on every Christmas.

"You got a Weasley jumper!" Hermione said quite jealously. "I got a scarf from Mrs Weasley, but- you are closer to her."

"So sweet of Molly," Y/N said with a warm smile.

"That's nice," Hermione smiled weakly. Y/N pouted her lips sympathetically.

"You'll get one one day...when you marry Ron, perhaps." Y/N teased. Hermione rolled her eyes and muttered, 'like that's gonna happen.'

Her and Ron were in a middle of a fight about their pets, but Y/N knew, just like how Hermione knew about her and Harry, that Ron loved the muggle-born girl. He just didn't realize it yet.

Suddenly, the girls heard a yell from the boy's dormitory and frowned. It was definitely Ron's voice.

"What the bloody hell," Y/N said.

"Let's go check up on them, shall we?" Hermione said with a sigh.

The girls rushed through the swirly stairs to the boy's dormitory, with some of their Christmas gifts in their hands.

Hermione pushed open the door to the boy's dormitory and frowned.

"What's all the noise?" She asked. The two girls came in and saw Harry and Ron in their pajamas, covered in gift wrap.

Y/N squealed. In Harry's hands was a brand new Firebolt broom. She wasn't really into Quidditch, but her brother was. Rolf had been begging their parents for that broom. And her parents were rich, but they still didn't have enough spare money to afford such broom.

"Hey there, you." Harry smiled at her. "Love the hat," Y/N was too busy looking at the broom to flirt back.

"Who in the world gave you that?" She asked, and sat on Seamus's bed.

"We don't know!" Ron said excitedly. "No note, no card, nothing at all!"

"That's so freaking brilliant!" Y/N exclaimed. "You have a broom, now!"

"Oh, but that's..." Hermione frowned and examined the broom.

"What now?" Ron snapped. Y/N threw him a look.

"It's just..." Hermione's face scrunched up. "Don't you think it's a little weird? I mean, this broom is expensive expensive. Why would the person who sent you this not want you to know who they are?"

"Does it really matter?" Y/N said. "Rolf will be so jealous! He has a Nimbus 2002-"

"Y/N! Can't you see how sketchy this is?" Hermione said. "I thought you cared about Harry!"

"Don't come at her like that." Ron said, red in the face. Hermione shrank back a little.

"There's no need for that, Ronald." Y/N said cooly. "Besides, it's up to Harry what he's gonna do with it. It's his, now. What do you say, Harry?"

"I'm going to keep it, of course." Harry replied. "But don't start arguing again. Please. Let's just go down to breakfast."

"And don't go boasting about it," Ron added, giving Hermione a tough look.

But that didn't help. Right after breakfast, Professor McGonagall rushed over to their common room to the Quartet and examined Harry's Firebolt.

"No note, no card, nothing at all?" McGonagall asked slowly. Harry and Ron made a fist.

"No, Professor." Harry replied quietly. Professor McGonagall nodded and gave them a stern look.

"Then I have no choice but  to strip it down, Potter." The Professor said.

"What?" Harry, Ron and Y/N exclaimed.

"It's for the best. For your own safety."

"Professor! You can't-!"

"It is for your own safety!"

"But-"

"No buts, Miss Scamander." The Professor said firmly. "You will have it back in a few weeks once I'm satisfied with its safety."

Professor McGonagall took away the new broom and left Harry's and Ron's mouth hung open.

"Why'd you have to run to McGonagall like that?" Ron snapped at Hermione, who was red in the face.

"Because, I think-" Hermione said boldly. "and Professor McGonagall agrees with me- that Sirius Black was the one who sent Harry the broom!"

ϟ ͛ r⃒⃘

For the rest of the day, Y/N, Harry and Ron spent time with the twins and Ginny, building snowmen and snowball fighting. Y/N had persuaded Hermione to join them, but both she and Ron refused to go near each other. It was quite sad, really.

"Nice snowman, Ginny." Harry complimented the youngest Weasley sibling. The snowman was mostly Y/N's work, so that made Y/N slightly bothered.

"Thanks, Harry," Ginny blushed red. Y/N knew she had a crush on Harry since first year. "But it was mostly Y/N's work." Ginny quickly added.

"Is it really?" Harry grinned and locked eyes with Y/N. Y/N rolled her eyes and slapped another layer of snow onto her snowman, unamused.

Harry stared as the girl fussed around irritatingly. She was, in his opinion, undoubtedly beautiful. Not only did her E/C eyes sparkle, but her smile could make everyone stop whatever they were doing and stare at her. Or at lease, that's what Harry personally thought.

"Stare longer and this snowman's face would look cheerful compared to yours," Y/N said. Harry shook his head soberly and laughed.

"No way that's possible! That poor snowman looks depressed." He chuckled, poking Y/N's snowman.

"Sod off," Y/N threw the fistful of snow she had in her hand at Harry's face.

Harry gasped dramatically and shook his head. He bent down to gather a giant pile of snow.

"You did not, Y/N Scamander!" Harry grinned. Y/N laughed and ran away as Harry chased after her.

"Remind me again, why aren't they married?" Fred asked as Y/N and Harry ran away from the Weasleys.

"Honestly, I have no idea." Ron said, grinning at the laughing Y/N and the beaming Harry.

Harry carried giant snowball and ran after Y/N, chuckling at her laughter.

"Stop it! Harold! I'm sorry, please!" Y/N half laughed half screamed, but Harry was too fast.

He shook his head and threw the snow ball with all of his might, aiming at the girl's head. It hit the running Y/N in the back of her head roughly, making her fall over face-first into the snow. Her body sank into the deep and fluffy snow with an audible 'flump'.

Harry and the Weasleys burst out laughing as Y/N pulled her head out of the snow. She rubbed her forehead and winced.

"Owww, Harry! My head hit a block of ice!" She fussed. Indeed, her forehead was slightly red. That made the Weasleys laughed even more. Ron was practically dying on his knees. Y/N scowled. "Not funny, Ron! It hurts!"

"Aw, yeah?" Harry sarcastically pouted. "Put some ice on it, maybe?"

Y/N couldn't help but snort out a fit of laughter.

"You are so done for," she said with a grin. She lunged at Harry and jumped onto him. Harry yelped and fell backwards, pulling Y/N down with him. They fell into the thick snow with a loud grunt.

Their faces were only an inch apart.

"Damn, Scamander." Harry whispered quietly and stared into Y/N's E/C eyes. "Always find the excuse to snog me?" Y/N scoffed and pushed him away.

"Don't be so self-centered, Potter." She said, blushing slightly.

"You snogged me exactly 2 weeks ago, remember that?" Harry nudged her and grinned. Y/N huffed, her face glowing red.

"You were the one who snogged me!" She said loudly.

Fred, George, Ginny and Ron stopped laughing immediately. Ginny slowly turned a faint colour of red. Harry grinned mischievously and mouthed an 'oop'.

"What did you just say?" Ron asked in a high-pitched voice. His snowman's head slowly dropped to the ground.

"I think we all heard." Fred said with a smirk.

"So my theory is right." George chimed.

"Bloody hell! I'm gonna be a friend-in-law." Ron said and Y/N rolled her eyes.

"I knew it! Give me the two galleons, Freddie." George said happily. Fred huffed. "The bet, remember? Oh- Professor Flitwick also put in 2 galleons-"

"Flitwick?!" Y/N and Harry exclaimed.

"That was if they were dating," Fred said, ignoring Y/N and Harry. "not if they were snogging-"

"Why were they snogging if they weren't dating-" George argued.

"Maybe it was just a one-sided kiss-"

"Hey, hey! We can hear you!" Y/N said, scrambling onto her feet. Harry followed, blushing slightly. "And it was just to cover up a silly mistake we made."

"It didn't mean anything." Harry added and Y/N nodded in confirmation. But for some stupid reason, she felt a tinge of hurt. Wait- why the hell was she hurt? Just stop it, Y/N.

Harry looked up and saw her slightly hurt face and felt suddenly guilty.

But it didn't mean anything, didn't it? It was just to avoid answering questions about the Marauders Map. It was just a cover-up. It was emotionless. It didn't mean anything... did it?

"I can feel the tension," Fred said in a sing-song voice.

"If you don't shut up, Weasley-" Y/N threatened, walking back to the group of redheads.

"What? What're you gonna do, Y/N?" Ron smirked. Y/N shoved him lightly, making him shove her back.

"Did you just push me back?" Y/N snapped, unamused. But Ron seemed to be enjoying her annoyance.

"Yeah, and what about it?" He teased, shoving her again.

"Stop it, Weasley!" Y/N growled. Just as the word 'it' left her mouth, Ron's headless snowman bursted dramatically into flakes of snow. Oh, not this again.

Silence fell, as they all stared at Y/N with wide eyes. It had happened again. Her weird arse power. This time, her anger wasn't even severe. Ron gulped and fell silent, muttering her a sorry. Ginny backed away behind George and Fred stepped in front her slightly. Were they scared?

"Y/N..." Harry whispered. Y/N didn't answer. She was scared he might fear her too. Harry continued. "You just... you just- you started another snowball fight! HA!"

He threw a snowball at her stomach, leaving Y/N's mouth parted. Harry looked at her nervously. She scoffed dramatically and shook her head. The Weasleys all fell out of silence and laughed.

"It's always you, Harold!" Y/N laughed, throwing a snowball back at him. Harry squealed.

Not after long, they all shrieked with laughter and hit each other with large balls of snow. Their ankles were sank in snow and their breaths were visible. They played and played, until Ginny's face was as red as her hair.

Y/N caught her her breath and realized how long they've been in the snow and how cold it was. The boys noticed her and Ginny's expression and quickly led them back into the castle.

"Cold?" Harry asked Y/N.

"Yeah, but that was pretty fun, not gonna lie." Y/N grinned.

"That was bloody amazing," Ron beamed. "Let's do it again next year!"

"It was freezing," Ginny said, rubbing her hands together.

"I was far too distracted to be bothered by the cold." Harry laughed.

"Distracted?" Ron questioned. "What was distracting you-?"

"Hey! Filch's favorite hallway is empty!" Fred said, looking at the empty hallway ahead. It was Filch's proudest hallway, because it was always clean. "Looks like he's on lunch break."

"Brilliant." George smiled at his twin. "Do you want to do puddles or roaches this time?"

"Why not both." Fred replied. "We'll prank Percy after, too. See you lot later!"

The twins waved at them and left to go prank Filch. Ginny shortly left after.

Y/N, Harry, and Ron were now together. It was silent for a while as they walked back to the Gryffindor common room, and Y/N finally spoke up right before they went in.

"Seriously, Ronald." Y/N began. "You should go make up with Hermione."

"I think the hell not." Ron said stubbornly with his nose in the air. Y/N shot him a dangerous look, making him quickly add, "I- I mean, maybe I will... when she apologizes first."

"You better," Y/N sighed as they reached Sir Cadogan's portrait. "Eggnog!" She said the password.

Sir Cadogan's portrait swung open and the three entered the common room. Hermione was sitting at her usual spot, asleep. Her textbook was still hanging from her hand. Ron quickly went up to the boys dormitory, avoiding Hermione, and leaving Y/N and Harry alone.

"So," Harry said in his usual awkward tone. "Good Christmas?"

"The best." Y/N replied truthfully. Every year was the best, according to her. "Oh, thanks for the beanie, by the way."

"No problem." Harry grinned and watched as the girl blush a light tone of red. "Thanks for the hoodie."

"No problem." Y/N said. She could hear her voice shivering slightly. "Well I- I better check on Hermione. She looks tired- or something. Er- Happy Christmas, Harry."

"Happy Christmas, Y/N." Harry said softly. Y/N stared into his emerald green eyes dreamily and stood on her tip toes, before planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

She turned and walked away to Hermione immediately, her face burning furiously, leaving Harry red in the face and slightly confused.

As she woke Hermione up gently, she silently wondered to herself what it was going to be like on Christmas next year...
