The Kingdom of Matobo is traditionally divided into four nations: the Water Tribe, Earth Tribe, Fire Tribe, and Air Tribe. Each tribe is culturally unique and associated with one bending technique: waterbending, earthbending, firebending, and airbending, respectively.

It is one of the most technologically advanced nations on Earth, known for its rich deposits of the elements: graphene, feminum, mithril, and vibranium.

It is situated between the Sahel to the north and the Gulf of Guinea to the south in the Atlantic Ocean. It covers an area of 923,769 square kilometres (356,669 sq mi).

The tribes are split into multiple cities, while people of the different nations often intermingled to form new cultures and ethnic groups.

Matobo is an absolute monarchy, with Queen Sena as head of state but each of the four nations has a representative on the United Tribal Council.

As the monarch, Queen Sena controls all four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) plus (Healing, Flight, Spirit, Lava, Metal, Electricity/Lightning, Darkness, Energy, Moon, and Blood) and is tasked with balancing and keeping the Four Nations at peace.

Matobo has an alliance with New Asgard and Talokan.

In November 2017, Queen Sena married Erik Stevens (N'Jadaka), a prince of Wakanda, a year and four months after discovering his body in the ocean and healing him.

Sena and Erik had three children: Crown Princess Shanea, Prince N'Jobu II, and Prince Cali.
