Chapter One: The Last of Royal Blood
Shuri had initially meant to stay in Haiti to clear her mind and get to know her nephew, T'Challa II. She didn't expect to find out that the Crown Princess of Haiti, Fabienne, is her older half-sister. Or form a relationship with her at all. Shuri had two living family members now. She wasn't alone anymore although she still missed her parents and older brother.
And now, when she thought about finally making a return, she finds out that M'Baku and many others have challenged for the throne. Shuri convinces Fabienne to go to Wakanda with her and act as Counsellor of State for Shuri to keep the throne in the hands of their family until T'Challa II is old enough to ascend the throne.
If Fabienne becomes Counsellor of state she can carry out the monarch's official duties, while Shuri remains the black panther.
Fabienne agreed to do it only because she felt like it was the right thing to do for Shuri since Shuri felt guilty about abandoning her country as the last surviving royal family member. Plus it was a great way for Fabienne to get to know the country of her late father.
Now here they were on a Royal Talon Fighter with Okoye at the helm, finally making their way to Wakanda.
"Did you tell them you were bringing her with you?" Okoye asked Shuri.
"No, I did not," Shuri answered.
Okoye gave Shuri a look.
"Oh, Bast," Okoye said.
Shuri shrugged.
"Fabienne has every right to be there and sit on the throne as much as I do, Okoye," Shuri said.
"Of course, she does but what will she do when she has to sit on two thrones?" Okoye asked.
"Hawk Patuh! My mother will live long enough for me not to have to sit on two thrones," Fabienne answered as she spat away the bad luck.
"I'm sure that will never happen," Shuri said.
Okoye remained silent as the jet breached the canopy to reveal their home country.
"Wow," Fabienne said as they flew through the city, admiring the shining beauty of the place.
"We're about to land," Okoye told them, switching the controls to prep the jet to land in the courtyard.
Okoye lands the jet in the courtyard and Shuri quickly unbuckled herself and looks at Fabienne.
"Are you ready?" Shuri asks Fabienne.
Fabienne nods.
"Are you ready?" Fabienne asks Shuri.
Shuri squeezes Fabienne's hand.
"As long as you are by my side, I'm ready for anything and everything," Shuri answered as the jet doors opened.
In the short months that Shuri was in Haiti, her relationship with Fabienne evolved tremendously in a short of time. She felt like she knew her whole life, their relationship was a bit similar to the one she shared with T'Challa mixed with a bit of the relationship she shares with Okoye. Fabienne understood Shuri and she was glad to have her.
"Let's do this, ladies," Fabienne said.
Shuri smiled.
They descended the ramp and looked up to see M'Baku dressed in his traditional Jabari wear standing at the end of the courtyard, surrounded by the Dora Milaje.
Shuri lets go of Fabienne's hand and moves slightly in front of her.
"I know I'm special but you all didn't have to come and personally greet me!" Shuri called out as she crossed the courtyard, approaching him.
M'Baku raised an eyebrow at her before looking towards Fabienne.
"Who have you brought with you this time?" M'Baku asked. "Are you not tired of bringing outsiders into this country?" He asked her.
Shuri crossed her arms in front of her chest in salute and bowed a little at the waist. Fabienne did the same before Shuri pulls her to her side and loops their arms together.
"She is not an outsider, M'Baku," Shuri says before she pauses and leans a little bit into Fabienne. "Do you not see the resemblance between us -- This Fabienne, my older half-sibling," Shuri informs M'Baku.
M'Baku looked surprised, but the look faded from his face quickly, and saluted them in return.
Everyone gasps.
"Impossible," Ayo calls out.
Fabienne pulls down her bottom lip and shows her War Dog tattoo.
"She is a Wakandan," Shuri said.
"Why have you brought her here?" M'Baku asked Shuri.
"She will be my regent or Counsellor of State while I remain the Black Panther," Shuri tells M'Baku.
M'Baku tsked.
"Come. Let's get inside," M'Baku said as he turned so they could enter the palace.
"That went well," Fabienne whispered to Shuri.
"It's going to be chaos once we enter the palace," Shuri whispered back to Fabienne.
While they walked the halls, M'Baku talked about what has been happening since Shuri left. Once they made it to the throne room, Two Doras opened the door and M'Baku walked in before Shuri and Fabienne to greet the council.
"Princess Shuri has returned," M'Baku announced.
Shuri and Fabienne entered the room.
"Who is this with her?" The Mining Tribe Elder asked.
"This is Fabienne," M'Baku answered.
"Crown Princess Fabienne," Okoye corrected M'Baku.
"Crown Princess of what?!" The River Tribe Elder asked.
"Of Haiti," Fabienne answered.
"Why is the Crown Princess of Haiti here in Wakanda?" The Merchant Tribe Elder asked.
"It seems King T'Chaka was a very busy man," M'Baku replied.
"What do you mean by that?" The Border Tribe Elder asked M'Baku.
Shuri stepped forward.
"Fabienne is the daughter of King T'Chaka of Wakanda and Queen Jesula of Haiti. She is of Royal Blood of Wakanda. She is my older half-sister," Shuri told the council.
The throne went silent for a moment before chaos erupted.
M'Baku choked on his laugh.
Shuri groaned.
Fabienne rolled her eyes before she let out a high-pitched scream to silence the room.
"Yes, it is true. I am Crown Princess of Haiti, Princess of Wakanda as the daughter of Queen Jesula of Haiti and King T'Chaka of Wakanda, so show me some respect!" Fabienne said as she couldn't help but raise her voice.
"Fab--" Shuri paused as Fabienne held her hand up.
"Shuri has asked me to come here and be her Counsellor of State so that the throne remains with the Golden Tribe so please do show some respect," Fabienne said as she walked towards the throne.
She stands in front of it before turning to face everyone.
"I have studied your customs and rules, I will do my best to fulfill the monarch's official duties as Shuri remains the Black Panther," Fabienne said.
"You will be challenged for the throne," M'Baku told Fabienne.
"I will face anyone who challenges me for the throne," Fabienne said with a smile.
Shuri beamed with pride.
"That's my sister," Shuri said.
