Born to a mother from Isale Eko, and a father from the River Tribe, Ochanya grew up enjoying the best of both worlds until she got involved with M'Baku, who courted her to be his bride, causing her to leave the River Tribe, and live in the Jabari Tribe.

The night of Ochanya's birth, Olokun (Yoruba: Olókun) who is an orisha spirit in the Yoruba religion, chose Ochanya as her new host.

As the host of an orisha spirit, Ochanya can develop and master a variety of magical skills and powers. She also developed martial arts skills which made her free-spirited, carefree, and most rebellious in her youth.

As Ochanya grows from childhood to adulthood, she carries a regal essence everywhere she goes and possesses divine beauty. She has dark brown skin, full lips, with round dark-colored eyes. Her beauty enchants all. Men, women, lords, and kings - it made no difference. They all fall under the thrall of her. Especially, M'Baku, who stumbled upon her as she was singing at the edge of the river that connects to the mountain of Jabari land.

They developed a close bond and the two dated for a short while before M'Baku asked for her hand in marriage. She accepted even though her tribe did not agree with her decision. Upon her arrival at Jabari land, she was immediately addressed as Her Highness Lady Ochanya as the spouse of M'Baku.

When tension rises between the Jabari Tribe and the rest of Wakanda. Ochanya struggles between her loyalty to the River tribe and her love for M'Baku.

When her father asks her to kill M'Baku, Ochanya runs away instead, ending her relationship with M'Baku through a letter. Ochanya disappears and is presumed dead.

Eventually, Ochanya settles in California, where she starts her company, Tidal Wave Corporation, whereas a marine biologist, she conducts experiments to improve marine life.

Ten years later, following the Blip, M'Baku and the Jabari Tribe were recruited by the Masters of the Mystic Arts to help fight in the battle against an alternate Thanos at the Avengers Compound in New York.

Where he sees Ochanya helping Tony create the Nano Gauntlet with Bruce Banner, and Rocket Raccoon.

He, his Tribe, and the Wakandans arrived through a portal led by Okoye, T'Challa, and Shuri. Early on, M'Baku was being piled by a few Chitauri as he focused on making sure that Ochanya doesn't get hurt, but he was able to gain the upper hand and smash his way out. When the battle was over, M'Baku watches as a little boy runs over to Ochanya calling her, mom.
