The big waxlights that were placed on every angle lit up the soundless and dark hall, giving warmth which the cold wind that sipped from the large opened windows will soon sweep away, blowing the red curtains along the way. The grand entrance dressed gorgeous golden wrapping that are dangled on cone shaped, high sealing as it's ends leisurely form curly pattern. The floor dressed in a silky golden and sliver carpet, stretching on the long, narrow floor.Tops, decorated in a traditional design. The outlines of the walls carved majestically, highlighted with a sliver paint as it was carved with anicent ethiopian letters ( Geze).
The light reflecting from the moon and the candles on the place made it more enchanting and mysterious than it actually was. Andro had no words for it. For someone who reads so many books. She should've have been able to pronounce it but that is how beautiful it was. It leaves you speechlessly gaping.
The walls spoke more than they should, whispering the words of geze by the engraved scribbles on their rock form as they sparked the sliver paint like diamonds freckles. The floor held more than it looked, illuminating the scene. It was bewitching to say the least. With a swish of Farah's magical sword and here they were at heart of the marvelous palace, surrounded by shimmering site of the stronghold, captivating anyone who looks at it. They are enough to hold your gaze forever.
It only took them a fraction of minutes for them to reach here. It all still felt like a dream to her. A trance that she was put in to by powerful necromancer. She made sure it wasn't by pinching herself now and then but it wasn't gone. She was still there, walking on the comfy floor and far away from her family. She wasn't sure how far. She felt like a thoushand miles away. She thought about making a run for it. Although it was a bad idea, since she didn't even know where she was exactly.
" Where are we?" Andro asked still a bit unsure if this was actually happening at all.
She walked behind the lady trying to capture everything she came across in this little time. Her eyes roaming all over, wishing she had thoushand pair of eyes so that she could look at every inch of it. The faint sound of people chattering made her turn around only find it as empty and as enchanting as she remembered it.
The chilly wind entering form the large window made her shudder, taking away the hot air that the waxlight emitted.
" This is Palace of Ethiopia" The lady replied still walking not even turning to glance at her.
Andro muttered to herself astonished at the majestic site.
" Wow"
The moon was there lighting the dark sky as the flickering dotted stars helped her. She looked at her through the large window, taking a pause to admire the bright bundle beauty. No matter how many times the moon went up on that sky. She still brought a new grace with her every time.
Farah commanded, " Come along, quickly"
Andro looked away sighing as she followed the lady. They walked for what seemed like half hour , turning from left corrider to right until she lost count, passing by large and smaller wooden doors.
They finally reached a small wooden door.Farah pushed the door open. A torch was there giving the small room a light it needed. A window was shut preventing Andro from seeing the moon. It had one small bed with a soft white wrapping on it and a large wooden case beside it.
Farah took out a white, long night gown, it's edge forming in to small trim of threads.
Andromeda has never seen such unique gown or habesha as Farah called it before.
Beautiful would be underestimate for it. It's smooth light texture felt heavenly under the skin of her finger.
" You can change in to this after you wash over there" She pointed to the small tub near the wooden window that Andro hadn't noticed when she first entered.
" I will wait out in the hall."
The lady got out closing the door. Andro sighed taking of her torn, blood stained dress. She soaked herself in the water of the tub scrubbing her body. The water washing not only her filth but also her fear. She dried herself. Graping the smooth fabric, she proceed to wear the dress with long sleeves, reaching up to her slim wrist. She pulled down the dress, aligning the gold desgin with her waist.
It seemed like all the colors she saw were golden, red or silver. She wondered if there had implication behind it.
The gown felt soft and light yet warm on her skin. Andro has never woren something so artistic. She smiled and spinned. The dress spinning with her, forming a golden ring. It seemed to her like it was ages ago that she was smiling.
" Are you finished?" Farah interrupted her.
She groaned and muttered yes. This woman just loves to interrupt a good moment.
" Now you listen to what I am about to tell you" Farah said gesturing for her to sit on a chair with no back which seemed odd to Andro.
It was a traditional chair called Berchuma. Andro sat and waited for the lady to speak her mind.
" You are from this day forth a maid by day and a warrior by night. You will train how to fight. First lesson. Sit straight. You are a solider." Farah scolded as Andro gulped straightening her back.
All that came out of the woman's mouth were rules and commandments of how to be. Andro didn't saw a lady who just met her niece. She saw a cold sad lady shielding her hurt behind her stone facade.
" You will tell them. You came from a far away place called Menesa. No one must know of your identity. Your father already married a woman and had a daughter. Unfortunately the second queen died of plague. Seems like the king is unlucky with keeping his queens--- giving her one glance she returned her gaze back to the wall.
"The daughter however is spoiled venom. She thinks so highly of herself. You mustn't trust anyone except me. Am I clear?" Farah said as Andro nodded fear flashing through her orbs.
" You will train at noon and on your day offs from your chores at the palace"
Andro sighed nodding to her aunt's every word. She didn't want to face the outcome if she protested in any way. This woman afterall was more scarier than any of the witches she had read on one of the books.
Farah told her that the royals and their family is to be respected and she needs to bow in their presence and agree to their outlook on any matter. It was bitter for Andro to hear such things let alone do them. She had that rebellious side which make her break rules often. How is she going to learn to be a submissive maid?
One thought led to another and Andro wondered about her mother. If she was okay. She didn't even get to say goodbye or hear her angelic voice one last time. All the life she knew was swapped with another harder life.
Arguing with herself she finally found the voice to ask.
" What about mother?"
" You departed from your mother. The moment you took my hand. This will be your second lesson. You won't very depend on anyone. I want you to be detached from everyone here. You are not a just a girl anymore. You are a warrior."
Andro's protests died as she tried to push the tear back in, but one escaped, falling on her rather slim cheek. She has never been the one to cry easily but not seeing her mother and even her annoying little sister was too much to handle. Running away once again crossed her thoughts as she came up with possible ways of her escaping from here and in the end she found nothing. Instead she gained a hammering headache. Farah will surely find her if she tried to run away or worse she will go after her mother.
The lady harshly spoke as Andro wiped her soaking face.
"A warrior doesn't wail. Wipe those tears and don't ever let me see them again! "
Farah must've felt her harsh words sting Andro because she gently held Andro's shoulder, titling her head down to gaze straight into her eyes. This was the first time Andro looked at her emerald eyes up close, it was as beautiful as a evergreen forest.
" I am sorry Andro but this is who you are meant to be. The sooner you accept that the better."
Farah paced back and forth from one side of the room to the other. Andro's eyes followed her every move. Was this the freedom she so longed to have? Because she felt more tied down than ever. As if someone has cut off here wings and locked her in a cage.
" You will live here in the castle as far as anyone here is concerned you are a maid. At sunset when you are done with your chores. You will come back to your room and press on the fence here" She pointed to the wall that was facing the bed."You will knock on the door and whisper the phrase kefte three times Understand?"
Andro nodded staring the ordinary looking wall, muttering the phrase in her head.
"No this won't do"She rubbed her lips with her finger. " I will show you"
She walked to the stony wall, telling Andro to come too. Andro strolled quickly to her. Farah muttered those words and the barrier vanshied, reviling another room, but all they could see was darkness.Farah walked in first closely followed by amazed Andro. It was dark but Farah quickly snapped her fingers, making the waxlight light it up.
The room was wide, wooden chairs and tables seated, golden gears, armors, swords, crossbow and arrows hanged accordingly from small to big. She looked outside the window but she didn't saw what she expected. She thought there would be villages or at least sparsed huts but there was as thick throny jungle.
" This is the Parallel Room. It is connected to your room with the castle by a secret passage. You will come here at nightfall. I will be waiting for you at the entrance of the jungle and you will train there" Farah said.
Andro mumbled 'alright ',looking around the room. There was a rather odd small fire place, heating the room. She approached the gears on the wall but her aunt stepped infront of her blocking her way.
" Don't touch that! You are still not in control of your powers"
Andro wanted to ask what she meant by that but she was rushed back to the other room by her grumpy aunt.
Farah wished her a goodnight sleep and walked out in a hurry. Andro wandered if she had somewhere to be. She sighed and laid on the soft bed. It was actually comfortable than it looked but she couldn't drift. She rolled from one side of the bed to the other. She wished if she at least had her book with her. It was the only thing that kept her sane. The few minutes of the night felt like hours,as if time had stopped going. Many questions were clawing their way in to her mind.
Was she ever going to see her family? Will she see her father? What is he like?Is he kind or cruel? So many unrequited questions were on wobbly that she couldn't just close her orbs.
The feeling of being away from her mother and sister was foreign to her. This isn't the freedom she so urged to have, but we can't always get what we want. Sometimes things we want might come to us in the most unexpected ways.
