Damon uncomfortably laid on his bed till late in the morning watching the sky through his bedroom window. It didn't feel like the last time. The bite. Every morning he felt like he had healed until suddenly, in a tight second he toppled up in pain like never known before. The agony Damon felt was spreading throughout this entire body like every bone was breaking, but they weren't. His skin was cold and clammy, but his body was emitting heat. When asked by Elena or Bonnie where he felt the pain, he couldn't pinpoint it. It was as if he was being punched and kicked repeatedly, yet there was no evidence of it. Two puncture marks from canines were still visible on his neck, still fresh as the day he'd received them.

He remembered Elena and Bonnie telling him the night before that the only thing that would cure him of his pain was Maeve's blood. He knew because of his actions, everything he had ever done to Maeve, she would never cure him.

"You look like shit." he heard her comment. Damon lifted his head from the pillow to find Maeve standing over by the doorframe of his room. She leaned on the frame, her arms crossed in front of her chest. Her eyes were dark and serious as she stared at him.

"Yeah...well I feel like it too." Damon's voice sounded strained and weak.

"You deserve to feel like that. I wanted you to feel my pain." Maeve said with a stern voice. She made her way to him but stood by the foot of the bed. "I didn't want you to feel anything but my pain. What I went through and my nightmares." She looked up at him with her head cocked to the side. Damon looked at her with concern. His concern was not for her but himself. He didn't know what to expect from her.

"Tell me. Tell me honestly, Damon. Why did you treat me like this? Ever since that night of the werewolf attack...you have been treating me like all I am to you is a shield to protect Elena. Was everything a lie? Wanting to be friends and coming to comfort me all the way in Georgia for Pops funeral? You abused me...made me feel like a tool, but you know what? I deserve better than this. I got that."

"Then why are you here? Here to gloat over me? Watch me die?" snared Damon before he coughed. Maeve smiled coldly. she walked around and sat next to Damon, at the edge of the bed.

"I know what you're feeling. Breaking bones but nothing happening physically. Heat flashes but cold skin? It's like a nightmare. You feel like you're dying but your body isn't breaking down. Like a storm inside you but no rain." she said in a calming soft voice. "But...you have already suffered for a week." she continued, "I wanted you to burn in hell. I wanted you to know exactly who you messed with. I am Maeve Kalon, crowning Alpha of the Kalon Pack, and I will never forget what you did to me." she said in a low raspy voice.

Maeve reached into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out a vial of blood. "I am healing you. Not because I forgive you or because I am going to forget it...I am neither Jesus nor do I have Alzheimers.. Because I will not stoop to your level." Maeve placed the vial in his hand. "Goodbye Damon."

Maeve stood up from the bed and exited the room.

Maeve stood by a table inside Klaus's mansion. The map of Mystic Falls was spread over on top with four candles, one on each corner of the map.

"What do you need?" asked Klaus approaching her.

"Just your blood. The blood connection will make it easier for me to track down your siblings." Klaus gave her a short nod and bit into his wrist, letting his blood drop in the granite bowl placed on a side.

"What are you doing!" shrieked Maeve in disbelief. She pressed a hand to her forehead.

"You said you needed my blood!" argued Klaus, confused about her outburst.

"I said I need it...didn't say where!" Klaus pursued his lips.

"Then where do you need it?"

"On the map." instructed Maeve. Klaus did as told, letting droplets of his blood fall on the map.

"Okay, great. Now, let me concentrate." Maeve closed her eyes and began muttering the spell. Klaus stared at the drops of blood move around the map. One drop stopped at the location of the boarding house while the rest kept moving around aimlessly.

Maeve opened her eyes with a grimace. "What's happening?" asked Klaus.

"One drop on the Salvatore house and the rest are still there. Meaning one of them, and I put a million dollars on this, Rebekah is at the Salvatore house. The rest are cloaked." Maeve explained. She paused for a moment before continuing, "I need to focus more."

"Well, It's good I already did a little persuasion." Klaus smirked making Maeve give him a significant look.

"About that, what did you do?" Maeve asked.

"Not much just compelled Jeremy to stand in front of a moving car." Klaus shrugged. Maeve was shocked to hear him.

"Are you crazy!" shouted Maeve. "He's a boy." Maeve vanquished the flames on the candle and turned to march to the door.

She ran over to the Gilbert house. She had her anger and hatred for the doppelganger but she cared for Jeremy. He was a kid who was roped into all of this without any reason. She panted loudly as she stood near the house. Maeve first saw the Paramedics driving away before she turned to the house.

Maeve saw a figure standing oddly in the doorway, leaning in as much as they could without stepping in. "Might wanna invite me in Elena." She heard the hybrid say in a cruel voice.

Maeve stood just behind him. She bared out her claws and shoved her hand through his back, gripping the hybrid's heart. The hybrid stilled before he spluttered. Maeve ripped out her hand still gripping the heart in her hand.

The hybrid fell to the floor at her feet, giving Maeve a clear view of the inside of the house. Jeremy's eyes frantic and wide softened suddenly when he noticed it was Maeve.

"Maeve!" he yelled in surprise and jumped to his feet and at the woman.

"Are you okay Jerry?" inquired Maeve looking over and around him to see any sign of injury.

"I'm fine." said Jeremy. "Thanks."

Maeve turned to look at Elena who still stood inside the house. "Get Alaric to the hospital."

Jeremy stepped inside the house to help Alaric. "Why'd you do it?" Elena asked, looking around at Alaric and back at Maeve.

"The feud is between you and your boy toys, me and Klaus. Jeremy is a kid who doesn't need to be in the crossfire. Take care of him." Maeve said and turned to walk away.

"Maeve." Elena's voice stopped her in tracks, "Thanks."

"I did it for Jeremy. Don't forget that." said Maeve with hostility in her voice.

She turned around and walked away feeling the night mist and breeze fan over her face.

Maeve liked walking around the town soaking in the silence before she had to walk into the mansion again.

Maeve stepped into the study room to find Klaus stand near the fire place with a drink in his hand. "You're back. Saved the little Gilbert?" Klaus said sarcastically.

"Alaric got hit instead. And you, do whatever the hell kind of a torture you want to the Salvatore and Elena. Leave Jeremy out of this. He is a kid Klaus." Maeve said pointing a finger at him. "Also, leave a certain blonde out of this, please."

"Caroline Forbes." deduced Klaus.

"Yes." Maeve narrowed her eyes looking at the original. She studied his face, an unreadable expression appearing on his face.

"Nik..." she began dragging her feet across the floor over to him, "do you have a crush on her?"

"I do not. I have only seen her once."

Maeve hummed raising a single brow, "one look is enough."

Maeve pressed the door bell waiting for it to open. She held a bright lavender paper bag in hand. The door opened to reveal Sheriff Forbes. Maeve recognised instantly from the fearing look on her that she was fed lies by Damon, himself.

Maeve let out a sigh before saying, "I'm guessing Damon told you everything."

"He told me how you're now helping Klaus rather than him." said the Sheriff, shortly. Before anyone could say anything more, a small voice interrupted coming from behind Maeve.

Maeve turned around to see a tired looking Caroline putting her weight on Matt. "Oh my god!" shrieked Maeve immediately going to help the vampire, dropping her bag on the front porch.

"Tyler bit her." revealed Matt. "Because Klaus told him to." bitterly added Matt glaring at Maeve.

"Glare and plot my death later, Matthew. Let me get her inside." with ease Maeve lifted up Caroline and helped her inside. The Sheriff didn't protest but guided Maeve into Caroline's room.

"I don't understand." mumbled Maeve to herself. "I thought he said to go after Bonnie." Caroline coughed forcing herself on to a side as soon as Maeve laid her gently on her bed.

"What are you saying?"

"Klaus and my──the deal we made back before summer is still up. But this time the only names in it are you and Jeremy. I don't understand why he would ask Tyler to go after you."

"Because he's evil and you are too blind to see it." snapped Matt from the doorway. Maeve whipped her head to a side to send a sharp glare his way,

"He may be the villain in your story, Matthew, but in mine, he's the reason I am still alive. I know...you lot have your reservations about the man, but I know for a fact that he wouldn't disrespect our deal."

"Why are you helping him?"

"Why shouldn't I? Apart from Caroline and Jeremy, he's the only one who ever saw me as a fucking person and not some weapon or an elaborate plan to save Elena."

The sound of the door bell ringing interrupted them. Both raced down the stairs, one knowing who it was and the other simply wanting to act as a support.

"I know who you are." she heard the sheriff say.

"Nik." Maeve breathed seeing him standing on the other side of the door.

"Maeve. Could you convince her to let me in?" asked Klaus.

"Sheriff. It's okay. Invite him in." said Maeve walking up to the woman, "if he tries something, I can take him down like a bug on a wind shield."

Hearing her, the Sheriff decided to believe her, "you can come in." Klaus stepped inside the house, his eyes straining on the sheriff first before moving onto Maeve.

"I thought you said persuasion involved Bonnie."

"I said so too but I guess Tyler sought someone else out." muttered Klaus before venturing inside the house.

"Maeve? What happened?" asked the Sheriff. "I──I mean it was all so okay before..." it was clear to Maeve that the Sheriff was suddenly having doubts. Why wouldn't she? Maeve had been the sweetest person to have around, a great conversationalist, knowledgeable, mannered and respectful. Obviously being supernatural came as a shock, just as it did to the rest of them but to listen to a trusted source speak ill about her, didn't sit well.

"What exactly did Damon tell you?"

"Tha...that you were a powerful being and we cannot trust you anymore. You helped Klaus get to Elena and became best friends with him." repeated the Sheriff.

Maeve chuckled darkly hanging her head low. She lifted it up again shaking it sideways. "He lied to you. I mean half lied." she paused looking at Matt who held a similar expression as the Sheriff. "I am powerful. I did help Klaus and we are good friends. But did Damon tell you how he abused my powers? How shitty he made me feel about killing werewolves who tortured Caroline? Or almost killed him and his brother?"

"What?" shock marred over the Sheriff's face. Maeve raised her own brows when she concluded to herself that the mother didn't know what was happening to her own daughter.

"Yes. The werewolves. Pack members of the pack Tyler's uncle Mason Lockwood used to run with, kidnapped Caroline and tortured her with vervain, liquid and bullets and toothpicks. Kidnapped me too actually." she took in a breath giving the Sheriff time to absorb whatever she had said thus far before continuing on, "Damon made me think that I was like a monster. He even started to call me little devil."

Maeve stopped for another moment to read their expressions. She chose to continue without thinking much into it, "Fast forward...he knew where Klaus was holding me hostage, saw me but did nothing. But he did have time to go into my apartment search through stacks of grimoires and find a particular one to help Elena. Also, may I just add, since you also almost believe me to be evil...I struck a deal with Klaus which saved Caroline from becoming the vampire Klaus was going to sacrifice in his ritual?"

"That was you?" asked Matt, stunned to hear Maeve.

"Yeah. It was me. Damon offered me up as bait to Mikael to lure Klaus. He stabbed me with Silver and witch hazel. Then when Mikael stabbed me with a silver dagger, Damon didn't do anything." Maeve's voice had gone lower and grew colder, "he watched me die, Sheriff and did nothing. That man upstairs who didn't want your daughter hurt in the first place...healing her right now──is the reason I am alive today."

Maeve finished her monologue with a strong breath, "I get that this is hard to digest. But Sheriff, you should know...Damon is not a good guy. He could never be the good guy. He abused your daughter, Sheriff. He manipulated her, he used her as his personal blood bag for days when he first came into this town." The Sheriff's mouth fell agape at the news. "Stefan stood by and did nothing to stop him. I know this because Caroline told me...I also accidentally looked through Damon's memories when I didn't mean to."

Klaus walked down the stairs to see the three still in the same position as before. "All okay?" he asked placing his hand on Maeve's back.

"You healed her, right?"

"Yes. Don't think me so cruel, Maeve." said Klaus.

"I'll take your leave now Sheriff. I should have realised I am no longer welcome." Maeve cowered slightly as opposed to her, seconds ago venting out every ounce of truth that was manipulated to paint her as a traitor.

The two hybrids walked out of the house, both silent. Maeve looked up at the darkened sky letting the night's breeze flow over her skin and goosebumps.

"I thought I told you, no Caroline."

"And I thought you were over the Damon chapter."

"I thought so too." answered Maeve, truthfully. "I just...I guess I didn't expect to lose everybody. I figured I'd still have Caroline and this house...like before." mourned Maeve turning to face Klaus.

Both stood on the footpath silently soaking in the silence, one that didn't weigh heavy on their heart. "The amount of times, Caroline and I would scream out to Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson standing on the rooftop. God! I swear, the neighbours called the Sheriff once on us because of how loud we were being. The George Clooney Marathon and rom-coms all night." Maeve fell silent, "I guess everything has changed. Damon played a bloody round game on me. Tables turned and I can't do shit about it. I guess this was the last paragraph of that chapter."

"Good because if I had to listen to you say the Salvatore's name one more time, I would certainly killed you myself."

"Nah! You'd have missed me to much."

"Nonesense. I'm sure there would be a time in all of the rest of eternity where I would find someone else with a mediocrity of humor and an annoying personality."

"Really? Wow, way to make someone feel less special, Nik!" She smiled looking at Klaus, "I can guarantee you, this...is a once in a lifetime opportunity." said Maeve.

"Next chapter in the autobiography of Miss Maeve Kalon is meeting the Mikaelson siblings." said Maeve. She giggled, "title undecided. I was thinking of naming the chapter, the therepy seekers or Mikaelsons. What do you think?"

"I think I want to kill you."

"If you think that then go ahead. But remember, I know where your siblings might be." Klaus rolled his eyes and started walking away forcing Maeve to skip a few steps to match up to speed with him.

Unbeknownst to either of them, perhaps it was because of how easily they were having the conversation, two pairs of ears were listening to them. One with the intention of sabotaging their plan and the other with slight envy and more happiness for them.

Caroline listened to their conversation and watched them through the window of her bedroom. Yes, Klaus was evil but she couldn't help but feel relieved in the fact that Maeve, the selfless weird goofball she had come to love so much finally had someone who liked her as a person as opposed to her previous friendships.

Whereas Stefan, who stood at an undetectable distance, started brainstorming a way to stop Klaus from getting what he wanted.

Writing Maeve and Klaus's friendship is my favorite thing about this book other than writing scenes between Maeve and Elijah.

How are you liking this new friendship.
