"Wow," Hoseok breathed, seeing the twins walk into the small coffee shop. "God damn," he added with clear admiration.
"They look phenomenal." Yoongi commented. "But they look awfully . . ."
"Identical." Seokjin finished. "It was never this hard to tell them apart. Who is who?"
"I think Jeongguk is the one with the chunky sneakers and Kook is the one with the white Nike air forces." Namjoon took his guess, squinting a bit to see if he could tell them apart.
"Jeongguk has never worn so much black in his life if that's the case." Jimin joined in on the conversation.
As on cue, the Jeon Twins found the rest of the group's table, walking over and scooting into the booth with the remaining bunch.
"You all aged horribly." Jungkook said but it was clear he was poking fun at them, smiling wide already. He, unlike his brother, was astonished to be here with their high school friends.
". . ."
"Are you guys going to just stare or what?" Jeongguk frowned. "We can leave if there's an issue already."
"Namjoon was right." Seokjin spoke. "That's Gguk and that's Kook." He said told by their demeanors and attitudes.
Yoongi hummed. "Chill out, Mr. Quarterback-For-The-Carolina-Panther's." He gave his gummy smile, hearing small chuckles go around. "Do you know how stoked I was when I saw your name on my timeline?"
"I didn't know you followed up with football, Yoongi." Jeongguk said, a dull look riding his features. "I'm not famous, it's not like I did any better than you guys."
"Jeongguk," Jimin spoke up. "You don't even know what we do. Compared to you, we have day jobs."
"Don't say that." Jungkook rolled his eyes. "His ego is big enough. Let's not inflate it." He grinned, taking a look over at the older twin, spotting the distaste hidden in his tautly pressed lips. "Anyways," he looked back at the others. "What do you guys do now?"
"Well, I live with Namjoon. Namjoon writes books." Seokjin said, taking his husband's hand and holding it within his own. "He has a few published globally."
"Me and Hoseok produce music. It's a slow start but we're making progress. I also live with Hoseok." Yoongi informed with delight.
Jimin saw the group look to him. "I'm a journalist but you knew that, I got to meet up with you just last week. Or the week before that, my sleep schedule is messed up due to my traveling." He snickered, speaking a directly to Jeongguk. "Jungkook, what do you do?" He questioned.
"I'm an animator. I make cartoon designs for Netflix and do some on YouTube." He became bashful, scratching their back of his neck with his sheer shyness.
Jeongguk hummed. "I don't think any of our jobs are particularly bad . . . My job is really nothing special. We all make good money, all got houses and food in front of us." He shrugged.
"Aren't we missing someone?" Yoongi piped, changing the subject as he mentally counted the boys. "There's only seven here. We're eight, aren't we?" He asked.
"Yeah, Taehyung isn't here." Namjoon said. "Why didn't you guys bring him with?" He asked the twins.
The said twins both looked at each other, facing the group once again. Without missing a single beat, both voices aligning in sync, they said, "Who?"
Hoseok nervously let out a chuckle. "Um . . . Tae? The . . . Your guys boyfriend?" He didn't know what joke they were playing.
"Hmm, I don't know who that is." Jeongguk replied, tilting his head to the side like a confused puppy.
"Really, cut the crap. Where's Taehyung? None of us could get in contact with him and hoped you guys could bring him." Seokjin wasn't smiling, confusion showing crystal clear.
Jungkook shrugged, leaning back. "Sorry, hyungs, we're really drawing blanks on who exactly you're talking about."
Jimin didn't speak. He knew something was off when he interviewed Jeongguk, that's why he didn't bother saying anything when he spoke to him after it, not wanting to irritate him.
"Kim Taehyung? You guys bought him a fucking dog and you don't know who we're talking about? You guys gave him a promise ring at the beginning of your senior years." Yoongi was awfully lost, trying to connect the dots.
Hoseok went a bit wide-eyed. "I guess it's safe to say they didn't last after high school. College get in the way?"
"Honestly, you think you fucks would understand the gist of this whole fucking thing. We said we didn't know who the fuck that Trampoline-guy was so if you could stop pushing the topic, that would be nice. I didn't come all the way to South Korea to talk about Toy-Rung."
"No, Gguk, I think it's 'Piece of Shit,' you're saying it wrong." They spoke as if it were an actual conversation and that this person was seriously unknown.
Seokjin, as the rest, was utterly dumbfounded on why exactly they were being this way. "Okay," he said. "You're right, I don't know what we were thinking. It must've been someone else and we just all confused that somewhat." He shrugged, playing it off. "Anyways, anyone else romantically involved?" He asked to change the topic away from Taehyung. He knew they weren't in the mood to talk about it and didn't want to proceed to go on about it.
Jungkook didn't pay any mind to the new conversation, turning his attention to Jeongguk. He gave him those eyes, practically making sure he was okay by all means.
Jeongguk faintly nodded, pushing to his feet. "I'm going to head to the bathroom real quick. Can someone order me a black coffee? Thanks." He didn't let anyone speak, speeding off to the nearest men's restroom.
Jungkook let his brother be alone, knowing he needed it. He tapped his index finger on the surface of the table, letting his attention fall to the floor.
"Kook, surely you know something of Taehyung." Hoseok said, softening his vowels to make it sound a bit kinder than what it must've sounded like normally.
Jungkook narrowed his brows, moving his glance over at the aforementioned. "I don't, Hoseok, I really don't and I would highly appreciated it if you just stopped bringing up whoever that is, please." He said, then standing. "I'll order Gguk's coffee. Anyone else want anything while I'm up there?" He inquired but the rest of the group all denied.
"Um . . . Okay." Namjoon tapped his fingers on the table, watching as the twins were both now gone from the table. "Anyone? Anything on the situation?"
That question held answers of shrugs and 'don't know's.
"I mean," Jimin didn't make eye contact, swirling his cold hot chocolate. No one questioned why he had it in early fall but he had it. "Taehyung pretty much cut us all off after high school. The last message I ever got from Tae was him saying he was going to visit his parents back in Daegu for the week. After senior year, they moved back and he wanted to spend time with them, get them situated. I remember trying to call him and it told me his number was no longer in service. I haven't heard anything since."
Hoseok could concur. "I texted him congratulations on getting accepted into college but it never sent to his phone. I tried getting ahold of the Jeon Twins but it just never worked in my favor. I was really hoping to see him here."
"We all wanted to see each other but obviously they aren't exactly wishing to see Taehyung." Seokjin shrugged. "Let's just let it go. They don't want to talk about it, they're a little agitated we pushed it this far, let's drop it. I don't want to make them leave before we even start." The eldest spoke forth, taking quick glances around at everyone's face.
"It's just . . . Bonkers. They use to hang on each other's necks and now they apparently don't know one another? If this isn't the biggest plot twist." Yoongi exclaimed. "But we'll go along for their sakes."
"Thank you." Seokjin spoke, looking back to see Jungkook return, setting down the coffee for his brother and a brownie for himself.
"What do you guys want to do while we're all here? Me and Gguk got a hotel room for three days. He can't miss too much." Said the youngest.
Jimin hummed in thought. "We were going to travel a bit. There's this cool event going on in Daegu and then we had some plans for Busan the following day. We then wanted to have dinner the third day, this cool fancy restaurant we heard of. We set reservations for eight people but I'm sure they won't mind us coming one short."
"Busan?" Jeongguk walked over, fixing his jacket over his shoulders. "It's been awhile since me and Kook visited our hometown."
"Before dad left but that's neither here or there." Jungkook replied. "Road trip it is."
