𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐄: Mystery Caller

──────────❝ 💌 ❞──────────

Annie moved around the kitchen making herself dinner, she was home alone due to her parents going on a trip. Her friends were busy with their own plans such as Melinda and Randy hanging out together, Sidney and Tatum having their own sleepover, Stu had plans with his family while Billy had to work late; having to work now that his mom had left and his father was drowning in work for his mistakes and ignoring his responsibilities. So this left Annie to hang out by herself watching movies while finishing her work for Junior Year, she was pretty keen on Senior Year.

As she opened the fridge, her landline began ringing catching her attention. With a sigh, she closed the fridge and walked over to the phone. "Hello, this is the Dalton residence," Annie answered with her usual greeting for the family phone. "Hello?" A deep, raspy voice greeted making Annie pout slightly. "Who is this?" Annie asked politely. "Who is this?" The stranger repeated back making her shake her head. "Someone trying to cook without burning my house down," Annie responded with a slight giggle. "What are you making?" The stranger asked, intrigued. "Well, stranger, I am making my infamous spaghetti and meatballs," Annie answered them.

"That sounds delicious," The stranger said as Annie moved towards the pot. "I'd hope so," Annie teased with a smile. While most people would have hung up on a random stranger, Annie felt that to be too impolite and she had many great conversations on the phone in the past with people putting in the wrong number or simply finding someone to talk to for the night. "You sound delicious," The stranger cooed making Annie scoff. "Careful with what you say," Annie warned playfully. "Do you have a boyfriend?" The stranger asked. "Yes, I do. He's amazing and so sweet," Annie cooed.

She pouted slightly, "He's busy tonight but we have plans to hang out tomorrow with our awesome best friend so that makes up for it." The stranger was quiet for a moment before speaking, "Sounds like you really care about them." Annie's smile softened greatly, "They mean the entire world to me, dude. I struggled in life without them but knowing I would be able to come back to both of them one day." Annie emptied the water from her pasta before stirring her sauce, checking on the meatballs to see they were almost ready.

"Seems to me that they are lucky to have you," The stranger said softly. "No, I'm lucky to have them. An amazing boyfriend who deserves the entire world, his smile can brighten a room and just everything little thing about him makes me happy. And an awesome best friend who I can rely on no matter what, someone who I know would be there for me the moment I called. He's been through so much recently but he stands tall through it and it inspires me so much. I adore both of them," Annie rambled passionately. The silence made Annie realise she had been rambling on about her boys.

"I know... I ramble but it's truly how they boys make me feel. I don't think anyone in this world compares to them," Annie added as she finished mixing her food together, happy with the outcome before pouring it into her bowl, sprinkling some cheese on his before moving to rinse out the pots before placing them in the dishwasher. "It's nice to hear such passion," The stranger replied, "Sounds to me that you love both of them." Annie froze in the doorway with her plate in her hand, she bit her lip and sighed. "I do... I really do," Annie whispered before clearing her throat.

"Anyway, here I am rambling and yet, I didn't bother to ask if you called the wrong number or are just looking for someone to talk to for the night," Annie said as she placed her food down on the coffee table, moving to push the VHS into the player before sitting down on the couch. "Which is totally okay. I used to talk to random people over the phone, helps others feel less lonely," Annie added with her usual bright smile. "I was looking for someone but I'm glad you answered the phone. This has been a great time for me," The stranger replied to her with a soft tone.

"I'm glad. We all need to feel a little less lonely in this big world. Would you like to talk more or did you wish to call the person you were searching for?" Annie asked politely as she pressed play on the movie, a smile on her face knowing it was Billy's favourite movie. "What's that sound?" The stranger asked having heard the TV. "Oh, I'm watching Psycho, it's my best friends favourite movie. I like it but he adores it. And then I'll be watching Billy Madison as it's my boyfriends favourite movie," Annie answered him, Stu adored any Adam Sandler movie.

"Great taste in movies and girls... seems to me they are lucky to have you," The stranger cooed making Annie laugh softly as she scooped up some food onto her fork. "Well, as I said, I'm lucky to have them. I was hoping we could hang out tonight but they were busy, which is okay obviously, but it makes seeing them tomorrow all the more fun," Annie exclaimed happily. "Well, I'll leave you to enjoy your dinner and movie. Hopefully we can talk again?" The stranger asked with a hopeful tone. "I'd be happy to talk again. I hope you don't mind me telling my boyfriend though, I don't want him getting the wrong idea," Annie told him.

"That's perfectly fine. I wouldn't want to get between a sweet couple," The stranger responded immediately. "Well then, it's settled. I look forward to our next call," Annie smiled as they said their farewells before the mystery caller hung up. Annie leaned back in her seat with a smile before picking up her dinner and eating as she watched the movie. It wasn't long after she finished watching Billy Madison that Annie had finished the dishes, locked up the house and turned all the lights off before crawling into her bed with a content smile, falling asleep without the knowledge of the masked man watching the house before walking away.

"Hey, man. How'd it go?" Stu asked Billy, the two at the Loomis household as Hank was out. "Sweet Annie, as usual. Polite and honest and..." Billy trailed off as he sat on the end of the bed, his head in his hands causing Stu to frown as he sat down next to his best friend. "And what?" Stu asked in concern causing Billy to pull out the recorder, he pressed play on it so Stu could hear the whole conversation that the two had. Stu's heart was racing as he listened to his girlfriend and the way she spoke about him and Billy. "She really loves us," Stu whispered as Billy sighed and turned to his best friend.

"We can't let her get hurt in this plan but... Annie is a defended, she protects her friends and I'm worried she'd get hurt in the process," Billy told Stu who nodded in agreement, the two thinking about how to keep her safe. "She's smart, Billy. Once she learns that others got mystery calls, she put those pieces together. Then in the call, warn her to not get involved or fight back... we could say the killer would hurt us and it should be enough to lessen her chances of being harmed without seeming favoured," Stu replied to Billy, he sighed as Billy smiled at his words. "Genius idea, Stu," Billy told him before rewinding the recorder.

"She loves us, Billy..." Stu whispered as they replayed that part over and over again. Billy and Stu knew they needed to go through with their plan but the idea of Annie getting hurt by them was almost enough for them to call off their plan entirely. But Billy remembered the pain that Casey Becker caused Stu and the things she said about Annie behind her back, Billy remembers the sexual comments Steve Orth made towards Annie and the way Steve mocked and tormented Stu, and most of all, he remembers catching Casey and Steve sleeping together while the bitch was with Stu and his best friend deserved revenge.

The next day, Billy and Stu showed up to the Dalton residence with Annie's favourite movies, her favourite snacks, and most of all, they bought her something she had always wanted. "OH MY GODS! IS THAT A PUPPY!?" Annie screamed as Billy held up the most adorable German Shepherd that she had seen. "He's yours. A gift from us," Billy told her as she grabbed the pup from his hands, the dog instantly snuggled up to her and began licking her face. "This is... oh my God!" Annie pulled the two boys in for a hug which set the puppy off, he began licking the boys faces and wagging his tail excitedly.

The three of them had spent their time watching movies while playing the pup that Annie had named Loki from her love of mythology. She had worked on training him to sit and roll over instantly, she was smiling so much that her jaw was aching but she didn't care about that. Billy and Stu both felt elated at the pure happiness on her face, they knew the coming months would be rough but they would make it through and by the end of the storm, there would be sunshine for all three of them. They'd be together, happy and free from the demons of their past; that was a promise from them to her, their Annie.
