Huening Kai was on his phone, just scrolling on his social media. He was pretty bored if you say. His roommate and Bestfriend Taehyun wasn't here right now. He went out to buy snacks for them. Only a few minutes had passed since Taehyun left, but Kai already felt bored.

He was scrolling reels, when he stumbled upon a video of someone posting the edit of herself and her bestfriend. The video was "who would sit at my grave the longest?" "She would."
The song used in the edit was making the vibe more wholesome and full of agony yet comforting and lovely. Kai doesn't know what clicked in his brain...but he immediately thought of Taehyun. For him Taehyun is that person.

A sudden realisation hit him like a truck. His memories with Taehyun started flashing infront of his eyes.

He first met the boy when they were 15. He still remembers that day as clear as crystal. It was his first day in his new school. He transferred here because he was bullied in his previous school. He walked into the class that day, eyes facing down, hands trembling and voice not coming out of his throat.

He just introduced himself briefly and walked towards the seat assigned to him. His seatmate was "Kang Taehyun." A boy with big, pretty eyes, a wide charming smile and aura of an angel. Completely opposite of his broken, insecure and blue personality.

He was determined to keep his distance from every single person in this school. He knew the consequences of befriending the wrong people now. He had suffered enough. So why did he let the cheerful boy with big pretty eyes, enter his space?

Maybe it was the way he approached him with a gentle smile and curious eyes? Maybe it was the way he didn't leave his side even when he tried to act cold and push him away? Maybe he was the only person who seemed to take an interest in him and his likes and dislikes rather than digging his history and using him? He isn't quite sure why he let Kang Taehyun enter his life. But he was glad he did.

Because now, he wouldn't like to be anywhere or be with anyone else other than him. Taehyun was the one, who showed him what an actual friend is. He showed him, how it was like to be someone's priority. How it felt to accomplish things with someone without being jealous but happy for the other's win. Taehyun showed Kai what a real friend is supposed to be like.

He remembers the time, when he had insecurities eating him from inside, when he felt like no one was there for him, and love was just an illusion. His past haunting him... reminding him why he used to be bullied and hated. Every single thing reminded him how big of a loser and unlovable person he was.

That time, Taehyun was the one willing to wait for him to share his stories,to see his deepest scars and bruises. He reminded him how he was the most lovable person to ever exist. Taehyun had held his hands softly that day....sitting beside him quietly until he spilled all the things which was bothering him. Taehyun said nothing, only listening to him and giving his hands a gentle squeeze reminding him that he was here, here to listen to him. That day Kai realised, there was someone always here for him. He wasn't alone. He had Taehyun.

He remembers that day when they were in last year of highschool...the day his father reminded him that how useless he was and that he was a burden to everyone, when his mom and sisters decided to leave that house final and forever. Their parents separated that day, the three siblings chosing to stay with their mom. Even though his dad was shitty...leaving him and getting to hear those hurtful words hurt him and made him more insecure.

That day he was convinced he wasn't deserving to be loved and he was a burden to everyone, even Taehyun. Negative thoughts filled his head that day...his inner voices telling him about how Taehyun will leave him oneday too like everyone else. He tried to distance himself from Taehyun after that day, avoiding him at all costs. But Taehyun never left him even once, not even when he tried to push him away, trying to shut him off thinking he was just a burden to Taehyun.

He remembers Taehyun getting angry a few days later after that incident....coming to his house, entering his room with the help of his sister and convincing him that "Hyuka you aren't a burden to me! I chose you to be my bestfriend! You have me...you are precious to me hyuka!! I'll never leave you! Not in this lifetime."

That was the first day, he cried infront of someone other than his sisters. That was the day he realised no matter how much he struggles, no matter how much he sinks into darkness, Taehyun would be always there to pull him back and be his ray of hope. That day he realised he had a person whom he can call "Bestfriend."

He would never trade anything in the world for Taehyun. The boy who was willing to love him despite his scars. The boy who made him smile the most.

He remembers the time when he used to hate Summer and his birthday. He hated the whole August month to be honest. But after that one day...he grew to like Summer and his birthday. It was his 19th Birthday and Taehyun took him to the beach at night. Kai was greeted with a huge surprise that day.

Taehyun had prepared a camping date that day for him. He had set up fairy lights along the tent....a cake placed on the picnic blanket with various snacks and his favourite grape juice.
"Happy Birthday Hyuka!" Taehyun said after removing his hands from his eyes....and a shocked noise left his mouth. He was on the verge of tears. No one has ever done anything like this for him. Taehyun knew Kai loved beaches.
He still remembers that day, they ate cake, laughed over silly jokes and also had deep conversation about their future together, laying down on the blanket beside each other, looking at the starry sky.

He remembers looking at Taehyun's eyes, seeing stars unfold inside them, shining brighter than the stars twinkling in the sky. He realised Taehyun was his "Brightest Star" that day.
Since that day, he seemed to love August and summer. Summer was his favourite season now...because he made the best memories of his life in summer with his favourite person.

A smile crept upon Kai's face remembering this. Taehyun was still not here. What's taking him so long? He missed Taehyun even more now...even though he just saw the other like 10 minutes ago?
He got lost in his thoughts again as the memory of their recent night cuddling together flashed infront of his eyes.

They are in the first year of University now and luckily roommates too. Kai was over the moon that day when he got to know that Taehyun is his roommate.
This memory was about a week ago, when Kai came back to the dorm after a long day. He was tired as hell, all he wanted to do was drag himself into his bed and fall face forward onto the first pillow he sees and get a good sleep. His brain was tired from continuously studying nonstop for 3 days.

He remembers walking inside their shared room, looking at Taehyun sitting on his bed.
"Welcome back Kai!" Taehyun had said that time with his usual honey like voice, which always made him feel relaxed and peaceful. He loved Taehyun's voice.
Kai walked towards Taehyun, crashing onto him, making him fall back on his bed. Taehyun placed his arms around him, laughing and saying-
"you missed me so much huh? Get up you're heavy kai."

Kai knew Taehyun was joking, but he was right about one thing. He missed Taehyun.
He didn't listen to Taehyun's protest about eating something first...he dragged Taehyun into his bed and layed down, hugging him like a koala.
Taehyun didn't say anything and hugged him back, smiling. Kai was cuddled up against Taehyun, his face buried into Taehyun's neck. He could hear Taehyun's heartbeat. It made him feel safe and relaxed. He realised in that moment that Taehyun was his home. No matter how shitty a day he had, he could Always come back to his home, feeling safe and forgetting about all his worries. That day he fell asleep in the warm embrace of Taehyun, feeling like being at home after a storm.

Kai was now looking at the wallpaper of his phone. It was a picture of him and Taehyun. He went Through a whirlpool of memories right now. About how he realised what Taehyun was for him. The smile stayed on his face.

Now that he thinks about it, he realised something right now. He loved Taehyun. More than anything. He realised Taehyun is the one he would do anything for, the one he would love to hold and kiss. The one with whom he will like to spend his entire life with. He loved him all along...and he just realised it now? After 5 years? How more dense can he be?

He was completely lost in thoughts, until he heared the door click and Taehyun walking in.

"I'm back Hyuka!! I swear i had to go to another store, the near one was closed. Did you miss me?"
Taehyun joked, smiling. The same smile Kai fell for. The smile he would do anything for to see every day.
Now that he realised this new feeling....he couldn't help but think what if tells Taehyun about it? Will Taehyun hate him? Does he likes him too? Will Taehyun like him this way?

Getting no response from Kai, Taehyun walked to the kitchen, put down the things he bought and walked towards Kai. Kai still seemed lost. He had the same look on his face which Taehyun knew too well. He was thinking seriously or something was bothering him.
"Did something happen to him? Is he fine?" Taehyun wondered. He knew the other too well. He knew this look didn't mean good.

"Hyuka? Are you fine? What are you thinking about?"

"You. I'm thinking about you."

"What? About me? What about me?"

"I just realised something Tyun."

"What did you realise?"

"That...that I'm in love with you, I've always been."
Kai said, lifting his head up to look at Taehyun.

Taehyun was shocked. The air was punched out of his lungs. Is he hearing things right? Did Kai just said he Loves him?

"Y-you...love me kai?"

"Yeah, i always did...i just realised it right now."
Kai said shyly, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. He was feeling nervous now. He didn't plan to say this at all. It was just sudden, he was used to tell Taehyun everything... whenever something bothered him, he told Taehyun. That's why this thought slipped from his mouth too...and now he wishes he could take his words back. He was sure he fucked up...he should have kept his mouth shut. Why would Taehyun like someone like him?
He was on the verge of breaking down at this point.

"So you finally realised Kai."
Kai shot up his head, looking at Taehyun in surprise. What does he-

"I'm in love with you too Kai, you're not alone. I'm literally hopelessly in love with you Kai."

"W-what! Really? So....my love is reciprocated?"
Kai said, his face lighting up with happiness. How could he be this lucky? He must have saved a kingdom in his past life.

"Yeah...it is."

"Then can i hold you forever and kiss you?"

"W-what... ofcourse y-yeah you can Kai."

"Okay."

Kai smiled and walked towards Taehyun, staring at his starry eyes. He reached out his hands to caress Taehyun's face. He was so breathtakingly beautiful. It should be illegal. He moved closer to Taehyun, placing his lips on his plump ones. This was his first kiss, so he wasn't sure what to do...but Taehyun guided him. Just like he always does.

After parting away, Taehyun's and Kai's both faces were red as tomato. They giggled and walked over to Kai's bed with hands interlocked.

"How did you suddenly realise you love me Kai?"

"I was scrolling reels when i saw a reel which reminded me of you...and then all our memories flashed infront of me...and i realised I'm in love with you."
Kai explained, smiling thinking about it.

"What was the reel?"

Kai showed Taehyun the reel. And Taehyun laughed. His laugh was music to his ears. Seeing his laugh was the best thing.

"Who would love me despite my scars?"
"He will"
