Epilogue
________
After a lot of texting back and forth, a week later they finally find the time to go on the promised date. That evening after talking on the mountain platform, they drove around the city for a while until Jungkook dropped Jimin off at the door of the bakery. It would be an understatement to claim Jimin hadn't already formed a bond with the dark-haired man that evening.
Not only was he blown away by his character but also by the similarities they had already established. Jungkook was just lovely and funny that night and Jimin could almost say he fell for his charming smile and doe eyes, but he is not someone who jumps to conclusions, even less when it comes to people. However, the day they both anticipated has finally come.
Jungkook told him to keep the motorcycle home today, instead he will pick him up directly from home. When Jimin has finished getting ready in his room and steps into the living room, he notices his grandmother's raised eyebrow as she studies his outfit. He's wearing a white top, and light brown eye shadow make-up.
Jimin feels his cheeks heat up and covers them with his palms, willing to hide his embarrassment at being caught sneaking out. It's not embarrassing enough that she overheard the flirting, she also has to catch him trying to sneak out for his date. He should have expected that he wouldn't be able to trick his grandma.
"Are you going out?" Her voice is layered with curiosity as she pours herself a glass of water and sits casually on the couch. Her hand reaches out again to the remote control lying on the beech oak coloured coffee table. "Have fun."
Jimin's mouth falls open.
Since when is his grandmother so straightforward? He clears his throat and catches himself again, after all he doesn't want to keep Jungkook waiting. He feels warm inside and giddy at the thought of having met someone who has caught his attention and gives him this tingly feeling. Although it may not seem like it, up until the time he left school, Jimin was more of an introvert. As he mentioned, a number of people had already tried flirting with him, but he always turned them down; none of them were good enough. That is until Jungkook stepped into the bakery, with his leather jacket, his eyebrow piercing and brown doe eyes that enchanted Jimin from the first moment.
He decides against saying anything to his grandmother that could trigger a longer conversation. "Thank you. I'll see you later."
So, he quickly slips into his black leather boots and opens the door with a little too much enthusiasm and it almost hits the wall. He gets into the lift with a shaky breath. This would be his first real date ever. He swallows nervously as he wonders what the other might have planned. Is he well dressed? Would Jungkook like the outfit he chose?
Strands of his silver hair are blown out of his face as the metal doors open, the soles of his boots clack on the stone floor as he steps out of the lift. The corners of his mouth pull up at the sight of Jungkook leaning against his motorbike and looking down at the pavement with his arms crossed. Jimin uses the distraction to approach him and wrap two arms around his waist. Jungkook is startled at first, but returns his hug with a sweet smile.
"Hi," Jimin murmurs against his chest.
"Hi."
"Have you been waiting long?" Jimin wonders, shivering a little and squinting his eyes because of the cold breeze. Even when the sun is shining, spring is known for its not always pleasantly warm temperatures.
"No, I haven't." The brown-haired man shakes his head. "Don't worry about it. You look fantastic by the way."
"Thank you," Jimin replies, detaching himself from Jungkook to admire him in his full glory. He's exactly the opposite of Jimin, colour-scheme-wise, which makes him grin. It's like darkness and light.. Jungkook is wearing a dark blue bomber jacket over a black turtle-neck sweater and Jimin a fluffy jacket with light earth tones. Jungkook's long hair is cut and parted in the middle, exposing his forehead.
"You look handsome too. I already miss your long hair. I was looking forward to making you a bun." Jimin pouts and tangles his fingers into his short brown hair, fingers playing with the end of some strands. No matter what hairstyle he has, Jungkook will be handsome in his eyes, nonetheless.
The latter grins. "Yeah? I could grow my hair again for you."
"You would?"
"Maybe? Let's go, I have planned an entire day for us." He grins and mounts his bike, Jimin quickly climbs on the back wrapping his arms around the other. With their helmets on for safety, they make their way to the first destination of their date. As they arrive at a big building with decorated doors, Jimin starts to believe Jungkook's words that he has planned an entire day. But it's the name that has Jimin's eyes widen as he gets off the motorcycle.
"Meerkat friends" is written in white above the entrance to the grey building, which initially confuses Jimin a little. The decorated doors don't necessarily give any clues as to what might be hiding behind them and he hasn't been to this area of Seoul yet, so he has no idea what could really be behind it. Could the name have something to do with animals? He can't imagine that it could really have anything to do with meerkats, especially here in the city.
He is pulled from his thoughts when Jungkook grabs his hand and escorts him into the building, surprised by the modern architecture, the smaller blinks. Jungkook leads them further to an escalator leading to another painted door, however, there is something written on it that catches Jimin's attention before Jungkook pushes the door open.
The words meerkat and cafe.
Jimin's jaw drops as they step inside, and he sees not one, but two meerkats a few metres ahead of them on the path. He stops deadpan and pauses in his tracks. His grip on Jungkook's hand tightens and Jungkook can only look at him with a soft smile as they walk straight to an employee at the counter who leads them to an empty table.
It is then that the silver-haired one opens his mouth in disbelief as one of the small animals curiously approaches them. "Meerkats? You brought me to a meerkat cafรฉ?"
Jungkook grins happily at his date's reaction, it's exactly how he had hoped Jimin would react. His eyes begin to sparkle as one of the meerkats crawls into his lap and stands curiously on two legs looking at Jimin. Jungkook is sure he has hit the bull's eye with this, and he can feel a sense of pride blossoming in his chest as Jimin strokes the fur of the meerkat with admiration.
"I came across it on the internet by chance. I didn't want to go to a cat cafe like most people do. I wanted to try something new. I'm glad to see you like it," Jungkook comments with a satisfied smile when a meerkat also crawls onto his lap and lets him pet it. He had considered going to a dog cafรฉ first, the only one in Seoul, but that would have been a real failure if it had turned out that Jimin feared dogs - a fact he has yet to find out about.
"Like it? I didn't even know there's a meerkat cafe here." The smaller shakes his head in glee and begins to scratch the little animal's belly in his lap. Jungkook has surprised him with this - for the better. Noticeably, this is the beginning of a good date. "You're just... I don't know. I still can't think of a word to describe you."
"Something good I hope." The taller one leans forward a little, looking deep into the other's eyes as he does so, tongue wiping across his lower lip. Jimin catches the movement and his gaze momentarily lingers on Jungkook's lips. His cheeks heat up as he notices the corners of Jungkook's mouth curl into a smirk.
Their game of glances gets interrupted by a waiter who takes their food orders and brings them both a glass of water.
A few moments pass in absolute silence, but it isn't an awkward silence - with the animals demanding their attention, it is all but awkward between them until the food is brought. "There is something...I wanted to ask you, how did your sister like the cake?"
Jimin had tried to put himself in Jungkook's sister's place that day, to decorate as best as he could a cake as it might possibly suit her. However, Jungkook never told him how the birthday had gone.
"It was... emotional."
"Emotional?" Jimin tilts his head to the side at the lack of elaboration of the situation.
"She had invited some friends and I thought the birthday would go like any other, but when I walked through the door with the cake, she looked at me with eyes full of expectations, even if she couldn't see the cake right away through the box," Jungkook stops to take a bite of his food and clear his throat. "When I put the cake down, she got sparkly eyes first and then started crying."
Jimin tenses. His worst fears seem to be coming true. "She started crying, but not for the reason you might be imagining. She practically jumped into my arms and thanked me a thousand times. Apparently, you didn't only charm me but also her."
The last sentence is half-hushed by Jungkook, but Jimin catches it and looks at him with wide eyes. He casted a spell on him. Jimin is not sure how to react to this, so he gives him a sweet smile, his eyes forming two crescents, and Jungkook swears at that moment that this is the most beautiful smile he has ever seen and his favourite in the entire world..
From then on, their conversation flows, and they spend a few hours there, losing track of time as they get to know each other better. They talk about a wide variety of topics, and Jungkook learns not only that Jimin is a year older than him, but also that he got into baking through his grandma, the woman he grew up with.
They also learn about each other's taste in music or where Jungkook's passion for motorbikes comes from and before they know it, it's time to leave the cafe. Jungkook holds his hand out to Jimin and helps him up, not missing the sad facial expression when they head to the counter to pay.
"They are so cute. Wish I could take one with me."
"We could come back here, if you wanted to go on a second date."
"Of course! I meanโ Yes, I'd like to." Jimin tries to cover his stumbling over words with a cough, but there's no use as Jungkook has seen through him. Jimin feels again the warmth of the other surrounding his hand and can't help thinking that it fits perfectly into his. Meanwhile Jungkook is distracted by how shy Jimin seems to be today compared to the day he walked into his bakery for the first time or when they sat next to each other on the viewing platform.
"Perfect. Let's go to the second destination."
Jimin gapes as they push the doors open and walk toward the parked motorcycle. "There's more?"
"You are wrong if you thought I would take you home in broad daylight right now. There's so much I still want to know about you, cupcake."
They mount the motorbike and drive to the next destination, Jimin's hands immediately sneak around Jungkook's waist as he enjoys the feeling of the spring air against his exposed skin. Jimin feels content; so, content in Jungkook's presence. At first he thought that Jungkook was nothing but a big talk, however in the previous weeks Jungkook has convinced him of the opposite. Jimin smiles, hidden by the helmet on his head but it doesn't take away the tingling feeling that lingers in his stomach. He's certain he can imagine becoming closer to the lovely man he holds onto at the moment.
Again, Jungkook intertwines their fingers after he has parked his motorbike near the Seoul Forest. They walk down the street until Jimin breaks the silence.
"Cupcake, huh?"
"You don't like the nickname?" Jungkook panics. Did he say something wrong and mess it up?
"No, quite the opposite. Usually I'm not a fan of pet names but it's fine if you're the one saying them."
"So does this mean I'm special?"
Jimin shrugs and turns his face away from Jungkook, hiding the fondness that flashes in his eyes.
From afar, Jimin can peer at the mesmerising view of an avenue of cherry blossom trees. Deep down he knows that this is his breaking point. No one would make this much effort if they didn't want to get to know him - not that he doubted Jungkook.
"Wow, I didn't take you for a romantic person..." Jimin says breathlessly, voice stolen by the view as they enter the park hand in hand. He can feel Jungkook's thumb drawing patterns onto his skin, which doesn't help calm his pounding heart in his chest at all.
"No? What did you think of me then?" There's no trace of anger or displeasure in his voice that Jimin can detect, rather it's the flabbergasted expression and the flash of merriment and curiosity in his eyes that tells Jimin otherwise.
"Don't come at me, but the second you stepped into the bakery I thought you were this clichรฉ flirting boy who asks for my number only to get a one-night stand, but the more I got to know you, I understood that I was mistaken. Now, I know you have a soft spot for me." Jimin snickers and tabs his dainty fingers along the fabric of Jungkook's clothes, over his heart.
Scrunching his nose and enclosing Jimin's fingers in his, Jungkook pulls him closer, voice low.
"Don't look at me like that."
"Like what?" The silver-haired man asks and fakes innocence.
"Like all you want to do is stare at me?"
The baker shakes his head and looks forth and back between Jungkook's doe eyes, which seem to hold the calm within. "Maybe. Who knows? You might have to risk it and find out for yourself."
"Some risks are worth taking." Jungkook counters and steps even closer, by now if one of them just leans in, their lips would brush. However, Jimin feels too proud to give in to their push and pull game for now.
Blushing, Jimin pulls him to the nearest bench, which is under a cherry blossom tree. "Tell me one hobby you can't live without?" He asks to change the topic.
"That would be probably playing guitar."
"Not racing?"
"That too, but in the end the guitar is what I make money with." Only then does Jimin realise that he does not know what Jungkook is doing for a living. He thought that he might be studying at a university. But if he makes money with his guitar... What does he do for a living?
"How so?"
Jungkook nervously tugs at his jacket before his fingers lead to his intertwined hands with Jimin and he randomly starts playing around with them. The confidence Jungkook had shown so far is now swallowed by a great uncertainty. Will Jimin think differently of him when he finds out what he does for a living?
"I play guitar in a band. Not a big band. We tend to play in clubs but we have also played at festivals as well."
"You- but that's great. You can be proud of yourself. You found your way in there. Is it something you're happy with?"
"Very much so."
"Could you play my favourite song for me then? Cause I'd love to hear your voice..." Jimin asks, looking at him with big brown eyes.
"What song?" Jungkook turns to him, interested in what song he wants to hear.
"Stay alive, I don't know if you know it. I heard it recently in a coffee shop and immediately fell in love with the singer's voice," Jimin sighs as he remembers the singer's lovely voice.
Jungkook has to stifle a chuckle at his words and a question then forms in his mind. Hasn't he searched up the band?
"Surely I can play one of my songs especially for you at our next gig, since I don't have my guitar with me at the moment, unfortunately," the dark-haired racer confesses, raising an eyebrow barely noticeably.
"What? really?! You'd do that? My date would sing me a song?" The silver-haired man leans forward happily and tugs at the younger man's jacket with his free hand. Jungkook can only nod, but wonders in the back of his mind if the other misheard what he said.
"Thank you!" Jimin exclaims happily while hugging Jungkook, who just sits there transfixed in shock.
"Wait a minute..." the other suddenly pauses in the hug and leans back to look Jungkook in the eye, incredulously checking if he understood Jungkook's words correctly.
"Your song?"
"Hmm... Thanks for the compliment by the way, I didn't know you loved my voice," he winks at him and enjoys the other's reaction. A mix of shock, surprise and mesmerisation flashes over his face. His mouth falls agape as the information settles.
"Oh my God! You're the singer? What's the name of the band?"
"Blue Hurricane."
"Oh, I have a feeling I've heard the name before." Jimin shrugs his shoulders and tries to remember at length, but doesn't get it. "Well, it's not that important. As long as you love it and maybe I can listen to you sometime. The song is something like an energy booster at work. When I am drained, I just listen to this song and get energy again."
That makes Jungkook laugh, he didn't expect that at all. "I'm glad to hear that. Listen, I was going to ask you, but you don't have to answer me if you're not ready for it."
Jimin squeezes Jungkook's hand to give him a sign that it's okay to ask.
"Why is it just your granny and you? Like I said, if you're not ready, you don't have to s-"
"No, it's fine." He interrupts. "I'm sure you'll find out eventually anyway and it doesn't hit me to talk about it like it used to. My parents... See this little scar? It always reminds me of the day we were involved in a car accident. I was very small, but old enough to remember it. Back then... I don't know how it happened. One minute I was happily talking about something with my toy in my hands and the next, they were rescuing us from the crashed car . We all went to hospital, but both my parents eventually died from their injuries."
Jimin said that it didn't hurt him like it used to, but with every word he said, Jungkook can see the pain in his eyes. He no longer hesitates to pull the smaller one into his arms as the first tear rolls down his cheek.
"I'm sorry for spoiling the mood."
"Bullshit, Jimin. I should be sorry for asking. It's normal for you to feel that way, I shouldn't have brought it up." Tenderly, he places a kiss on the other's head and then rests it on him. "You have every right to feel this way, do you hear me?"
"Thank you," he sniffles into the fabric of the taller's shirt and buries his head into the crook of Jungkook's neck. He feels glad for staying persistent and showing Jungkook that he cares about him.
"No need to thank me. Do you want to walk a bit?" Jimin nods and is about to wipe away his tears but he feels the familiar warmth of a thumb brushing along his cheek in a gentle manner.
"Thank you for agreeing to a date."
Jimin smiles under the cherry blossom trees and at that moment the world seems to stand still. "Thank you for existing and showing me that you care about me. I know it's early but I like you."
Stupidly grinning, Jungkook lifts Jimin's hand to his lips, and leaves a tender kiss on the back of his hand. "I like you too. Let's walk some more, hm?"
"I'd love to." Observing the surroundings and the other couples walking past them, Jimin for the first time does not feel alone among all of them. He had often looked at other couples with jealousy in the past and wished that he would also find that person who makes him feel complete and who knows, maybe - no, hopefully - that someone is Jungkook.
The said man then halts in his steps, and Jimin looks at him confused, but stops nonetheless.
"The shoe strings of your boots are untied."
"...Oh." Jungkook, the gentleman he is, kneels down before him and takes the shoestrings between his fingers, tying them into a bow and making Jimin blush in the process. He gnaws at his pink plush lip as he sees Jungkook standing back up, this time proximity decreases as the said man reaches with his hand out to him. Jimin wonders what it is that makes him do that. Is he going to cup his cheeks? Did he notice how he's blushing-
Stupid, Jimin! How can he not?
He is taken by surprise when Jungkook puts his hand higher, to be more precise to his silver hair. It makes him blink when the other pulls back his hand with a cherry blossom petal in his hand before focusing his attention back on him again.
Oh.
"Can I kiss you?"
"Please."
Jungkook's thumb carefully strokes Jimin's cheekbone while looking back and forth between his eyes, fascinated by those brown galaxies that bewitched him. Jimin looks so pretty in the spring atmosphere, breath hitching when Jungkook pulls him closer and closer with his hand on his waist and a finger underneath his chin. A shuddery breath leaves the baker's mouth, eyes fluttering close.
Their bodies are pressed against each other, and goosebumps arise along their skin. Jimin uses that moment to let his small fingers slide up Jungkook's chest and presses them against the spot where the other's heart pumps wildly under his palm. The desire to kiss him only grows more in him as he feels Jungkook's hot breath tickling his lips.
He hears Jungkook faintly whispering his name under his breath, their faces mere centimetres apart and then everything happens in a flash. Jimin's mind races the second their lips collide, like two worlds, causing his pulse to quicken and to drape his arms around the taller's shoulders. Jimin kisses him back, first softly then more firmly.
The kiss doesn't deepen until the baker buries his small fingers in the brown hair strands at the back of Jungkook's head. He feels like falling and a flood of emotions that he has never felt before makes his head spin. Sparkles run down his spine as Jungkook prods at his lips with his tongue.
Jimin understands and immediately opens his mouth to grant Jungkook's tongue access. Their tongues move against each other and grow into a heated kiss, causing Jimin to gasp and entangle one of his fingers into Jungkook's nape hairs, not ready to let go just yet because this โ this feels right. And not even passers-by can make him stop when that's what he's been craving for a little while now.
Jungkook just seems to be the final matching puzzle piece.
"How do you feel?" The taller asks a little huskily as he pulls away, probably realising that they're not the only ones in the park. It makes Jimin open his eyes and hum happily, taking in a waft of Jungkook's calming perfume. Jimin realizes he feels a mixture of contentment and joy.
He beams. "Extremely happy. I'm so glad you proved me wrong."
Destiny put together such different people who one might think would never get along but actually they complete each other.
