CHAPTER TWO | YELLOW LEDBETTER

CAROLINE WAS DESPERATE TO FIND AND BRING HER BEST FRIEND HOME NO MATTER THE CONSEQUENCES. All she wanted was Evelyn back where she belonged, but she knew that the vampire was suffering since Damon's death. The night that the spell failed and Damon and Bonnie were trapped, Evelyn turned her humanity off, grabbed a duffle bag of clothes, and disappeared without a trace.

The blonde vampire had gotten Liv Parker to perform a locator spell on Evelyn, after declaring that she owed them that much. Hesitantly, Liv agreed and tracked Evelyn to a nightclub in Georgia. And, knowing that Evelyn was a handful even with her humanity, Enzo agreed to assist in the retrieval of the Austin vampire.

As the two vampires stepped inside the immensely packed nightclub, all they heard was the music blaring through their ears. Enzo and Caroline stood on a balcony, overlooking the party-goers below but as they scanned below, there was zero sign of the vampire.

"I don't get it," Caroline yelled out in a frustrated tone while her eyes scanned the array of people dancing below them. "She should be here."

"Well, don't despair just yet, Blondie. She's over here." The British vampire pointed down below him to Evelyn, and suddenly a smile appeared on Caroline's face.

Evelyn was in the middle of the club dancing without a care with a group of girls. There was a large grin painted on her face while her hands were in the air, swaying back and forth as her hair whipped from side to side with every move she made. There were blonde stains on the corners of her lips, almost indicating that she had been feeding in amongst the dancing. Though, it was the perfect cover since most people were too wasted to care.

A hand clasped around Evelyn's wrist as Caroline yanked her away from the group of girls. "Come on, Evelyn. Time to go."

"Oh, well if it isn't Little-Miss-Sunshine, herself. You know, I'm getting real tired of you trying to keep me in line, that's the whole damn reason I bailed in the first place." Evelyn attempted to walk away from Caroline, but Enzo pulled her back to his chest.

"I can't do that, sorry love." He smirked down at her pretty little face that was now screwed up with annoyance.

"We've seen all the animal attacks," Caroline used air quotes around the word animal attacks, then she glared harshly at the brunette. "Are you trying to get yourself caught?"

"That's the thing, Carebear. I don't care. Not one bit. I was thirsty so I drained a few bodies, big deal." Evelyn shrugged again with a disinterested look in her eyes. "I dumped a few of the bodies I drained in here cause leaving them out would've just been stupid."

"Outside." Enzo sternly spoke toward the vampire before he yanked her out of the double doors to the club. The brunette vampire scoffed in disbelief and pushed the British vampire away from her as she glared at them with a vicious look in her eyes. "What's up? Did we ruin your fun?"

"What do you want?" Evelyn rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her chest.

"For you to turn it back on." Caroline bluntly told her. "This isn't you, Evelyn."

The brunette vampire pursed her lips, then smirked. "You see, I'm gonna have to decline that offer. I'm having too much fun. Not caring is great, you both should try it instead of following me around."

"And to think, you scolded me when I did it," Enzo scoffed at the hypocrisy of the vampire.

"I know, and I was wrong. This feels great, doesn't it?" Evelyn smirked as she bit her lip and glanced back to Caroline. "Oh, come on, Caroline, the only reason you're following me around is that you have nothing better to doβ€” what's up? Do you miss your bestie? Aw."

"I get that your coping with Damon's death, but this isn't the way and you know it!" Caroline shouted toward Evelyn, who rolled her eyes and headed back toward the club. But, before she could get anywhere near the entrance, Enzo snapped her neck and let her lifeless body fall into his arms. "Well, that's one way to handle her."

A soft groan left Evelyn's lips whilst she subconsciously lifted her hand up to the back of her neck to rub it. As her eyes fluttered open slowly, she saw that she was laid in the back of a car, though she had no idea where she was going. "Oh. You kidnapped me. Fun."

"Sorry, love. But, I figured you'd wanna see this." Enzo gestured to Caroline, who was stood outside a large house situated in the middle of nowhere.

"If this is something stupid I swear to God I will kill you both without even flinching." Evelyn threatened as she and Enzo jumped out of the car and headed over to the entrance of a house, where Caroline was stood silently.

"Stefan!" Enzo yelled out as he walked inside the house. His arms were as wide as the grin on his face when the vampire turned around with a stunned look in his eyes. "You are a hard man to track down. I wasn't sure if your new friend would invite us in, but she said this is your place which means, an open invitation for all your mates, right?"

"Well, this is definitely interesting. But, I'm bored, can we go now?" The Austin vampire spoke in a bored tone as she glanced around at the decor of the house.

"Not just yet, the parties just getting started, love," Enzo smirked and then clapped his hands together. "Got any Bourbon?"

The reunion was rather awkward, to say the least, and you could cut the tension in the room with a knife. Stefan Salvatore expected both Caroline and Evelyn furious with him and Caroline was, but he couldn't get past the fact that Evelyn just didn't seem to care about anything.

"So, how do you guys know Stefan?" Ivy, Stefan's apparent new girlfriend, asked as they all gathered around the dining table together for a meal.

"Uhβ€” Evelyn and I were childhood friends," The Salvatore simply stated in an attempt to not reveal too much to the woman, who obviously had no idea about the supernatural side of things. "Well still are, right, Evelyn?"

Evelyn scoffed with her eyes fixed on the bottle of wine in the middle of the table. She grabbed hold of it and poured herself yet another glass. "Sorry. If I'm gonna be forced to unwilling endure this dinner, I'm gonna have to be drunk."

"Stefan and I went to high school together. He used to date my best friend." Caroline scolded herself after declaring such a fact, "Not that he's not allowed to date, I mean they broke up. I just didn't realize he had met someone. So, how did you meet exactly?"

"Uh, Ivy's car was in the shop. Where I work." Stefan answered awkwardly before he cleared his throat.

The blonde vampire's mouth gaped open in sheer surprise. "You work at an Auto-Repair shop?"

"It's relaxing."

"Why? What did you do before?" Confusion washed over Ivy's before she looked at Stefan.

"A man of all seasons. Jack of all trades." Enzo mocked with a light chuckle, then his eyes were fixed on Ivy's neck. "You have a lovely clavicle."

"Oh, thank you. I think." Ivy pushed her hand to her neck with an uneasy smile.

"Oh, stop flirting. It's disgusting." Evelyn groaned out lowly before she placed her empty glass back onto the table. I'm still bored, by the way, if anyone cares."

"Forgive me, I always notice a woman's neck. I'm a neck person." Enzo admitted while he twirled his fork within his hand. "So is Stefan, right Stefan?"

The Salvatore shook his head with an uncomfortable glare. "Not anymore."

"Ah, well that's silly. You can't just stop being a neck person."

Ivy leaned over to both Caroline and Evelyn and glanced between the two of them. "Is he one of your boyfriends?"

"My fiancΓ© is dead, so no." Evelyn deadpanned without a hint of emotion in her voice. She just shrugged. "I wouldn't lower myself to date that anyway."

"God, no. Would you date that?" Caroline sighed out in an attempt to break the ice.

"Uh, hello. I'm right here." Enzo interrupted as he tapped his ears. "I have super sensitive hearing. Practically supernatural. Do you believe in the supernatural, Ivy?"

"I've never really thought about it." Ivy shrugged out of discomfort.

"I myself, am a believer. Had to get a witch do to a locator spell on my buddy here." Enzo carried on as he patted Stefan on the pack with a light smirk. "So, Stefan, tell us. This houseβ€” very charming. When'd you get it?"

Stefan, who was refilling his glass of wine, shrugged simply. "About a month or so ago."

"No, more than that, remember?" Ivy innocently corrected him with a smile. "We met two months ago, and you already had it."

"You'veβ€” lived here more than two months?" The Forbes vampire gasped out in immediate detest while Evelyn chuckled softly. "I guess that's just weird because you know; everyone thought you were living somewhere else. And, your job was supposed to be investigative work, not Auto-Repair."

"Clearly, Stefan gave up." The Austin vampire scoffed with her eyes firmly on the Salvatore. "Just like me, huh."

Stefan narrowed his eyes to the vampires and shrugged. "How about we just drop it? I'm happy doing what I'm doing now, and that's all that should really matter, right?"

Caroline leaned forward in an attempt to protest, but Enzo cleared his throat. "There, darling. No need to make a scene. Really it's all some big misunderstanding, perhaps this will clear it up." He grabbed a fork and stabbed Stefan's hand to the table. Ivy screamed, Caroline spat out her wine and the humanity-free vampire cheered.

"Finally!" Evelyn clapped out, with a smirk across her lips. "Honestly, I was waiting for this to get interesting."

Stefan winced in pain, then narrowed his gaze viciously toward Enzo. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"So many secrets, what are you running from, Stefan?" Enzo asked, then he yanked the fork from Stefan's hold and the wound healed within seconds.

Ivy's eyes widened fearfully, and Caroline noticed. So, she got up to her feet and began to compel her. "Calm down. Come with me. Let's go upstairs." The blonde suggested, then glared at Enzo, "No need to make a scene, huh?"

"Well, personally, I'm enjoying the theatricals. Bravo!" Evelyn clapped as she lifted herself up to her feet with a bottle of wine in her free hand.

"What the hell happened to you?" Stefan couldn't seem to work it out until finally, he got it. "You turned it off, didn't you?"

Evelyn bit her lip with an emotionless look in her eyes as a smile drifted across her lips. "Maybe,"

"You're hardly in a position to judge her motives, Stefan." Enzo scoffed in disbelief. "What kind of coward gives up on his own brother?"

"You don't know what you're talking about." He growled, then sped straight at Enzo and pinned him against the wall until he was grabbed at the throat by the British vampire, who pushed him against the fridge.

"Why don't you enlighten me?" Enzo spat as she grabbed a fork from the table and stabbed it into Stefan's neck. Stefan pushed him back, pulled his hands up to his neck, and snapped it with ease.

"Wow. Dinner and a show. What a lucky girl I am." Evelyn smirked to herself, finished the last of the wine in the bottle, and then darted toward the door. But, Stefan sped in front of her. "Move."

"Why'd you turn it off, huh?" Stefan looked her up and down with his brows knitted together. "Evelyn, you've turned into someone that I barely recognize. "Damon wouldn't wantβ€”"

"Look at you!" Evelyn spat viciously as her voice ran cold. "Trying to use Damon as a way to trigger some sort of emotion inside of me. Do you know what's funny? You're not the first person to do that, and you probably won't be the last."

"He's where your humanity is buried, it's not exactly a secret." The Salvatore shrugged.

"Lecture me all you want about turning it off, but at least I'm not living a lie," Evelyn smirked as she folded her arms across her chest. "You living a human life, getting a girlfriendβ€” it's pathetic. Just like you."

"Yeah? Well, at least I'm living. You're so blinded by your own bloodlust you can't even see that you've turned into a heartless bitch." Stefan sighed out as he watched Caroline appear Evelyn. She extended her hands and snapped her neck without a second thought.
