CHAPTER FIFTEEN | BRING IT ON

EVELYN'S EYES SCANNED THE GILBERT GIRL AS SHE DROPPED HER BODY DOWN ONTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. Damon had spent a while teaching Elena the technique that he used to feed on people in Mystic Falls, and since her humanity was off, she was all for the idea.
"Are you sure about this?" Evelyn glanced at Damon as they waited in the shadows for a vehicle to approach. The brunette knew it was probably a bad idea, but at least she was supervising a bad idea.
"She's a humanity-free vampire who's hungry. It's not like I'm letting her feed on a bunch of toddlers." Damon retorted with narrowed eyes while his hand brushed against Evelyn's shoulder. "She'll be fine."
Headlights approached in the distance, and Evelyn's breath hitched in her throatβit was time. A woman pulled up a short distance from Elena and ran straight over to her. "Are you alright? Was there an accident? Where are you hurt? Are you in pain?"
"I don't feel anything." Elena Gilbert responded in her usual monotone voice that she had seeming adopted when she flipped her switch.
"I've got a blanket in my car. Try not to move. I'll call for help." Once the woman ran to the trunk of her car in search of the blanket, Elena appeared beside her with her vampire showing. The innocent woman screamed once Elena's desperate fangs came into contact with the side of her neck.
Evelyn could hear Elena's prey's heartbeat begin to falter and that's when she turned to Damon. "Either you stop this, or I will."
"Fine. Come on." The Salvatore rolled his eyes and appeared at Elena's side. "That's enough." He stated bluntly, though Elena didn't listen. Instead, he grabbed her forearm and tugged her from the severely weakened woman. "I said, that's enough."
"I'm sure we told you not to kill anyone before we let you do this, or did that get lost in translation?" Evelyn tilted her head as she scanned Elena. She looked like a shell of the former girl she once knew. Elena was dead behind the ears with crimson liquid all over her mouth.
"This is the first person I've seen in days whose body isn't laced with vervain, and I'm hungry." The doppelganger stated with a careless look on her face.
"If you leave a trail of bodies, people are gonna start asking questions."
"I don't care." Elena rolled her eyes and continued to feed on the woman's neck once more.
Her careless attitude caused a low growl to leave Evelyn's lips before she peeled Elena away from the woman again, this time it was a lot more forceful than Damon's attempt. "Either you show some restraint, or I'll end the party."
"I thought this was supposed to be fun." Elena breathlessly rolled her eyes and dropped the woman onto the middle of the road. She bashed Evelyn's shoulder as she walked past her.
"Because that wentβwell."

It seemed that showing Elena a good time hadn't worked and she was in no mood to flip her humanity back on, so it was time for Stefan's idea. But, like always, Damon didn't seem to approve, whatsoever."
"So, that's the plan? You're gonna take her back to school?" Damon scoffed once he heard Stefan's plan to return Elena Gilbert to a scoff full of walking-blood-bags.
"Well, the fun route didn't exactly pay off, did it?" The younger Salvatore folded his arms across his chest and gave the pair a pointed look.
Damon wriggled his eyebrows suggestively to the brunette, who smirked back. "I don't know, we got a free meal out of it,"
"Hmm, wasn't too bad. A tad bitter but, a meals a meal." Evelyn nodded.
"Look, do you think I want to go to school and play chaperone? You two can't go because you're not students. Besides, you've gotta go look for Katherine. I mean, Elena needs this cure now more than ever."
"Not that anyone asked meβ" The voice of Caroline Forbes carried through the hall as she appeared in Damon's bedroom wearing a pink robe. "βBut I think taking her back to school is a great idea."
Damon furrowed his brows at the fact that Caroline, who had her own home, appeared to be showering in theirs. "Why are you here?"
"Uh, blame it on your fancy water filters. Your house has the only Vervain-free showers in town." The perky-blonde vampire smiled.
"Oh yeah. The mayor put Vervain in the water supply." Damon tutted with a lack of sympathy. "So many people to kill."
"Ugh. Imagine taking a shower and then getting burned alive." Evelyn shuddered at the thought of attempting to relax and then getting burned. "No, thank you."
"Yeah, and my Mom says it's about to get worse, so she could use a little help?" The blonde shot a pleading look toward the three vampires.
"Fine. Evelyn, and I will go after the psychotic doppelganger. Stefan, you gonna go talk to the Sheriff? Blondie, take her to school." Damon delegated each person their tasks as Evelyn grabbed her jacket.
"Sounds like fun." Elena's voice carried into the room, though she entered completely naked. The tow female vampire's covered their eyes, Stefan kept his eyes on Elena, and Damon looked uncomfortable. "What? It's nothing you guys haven't seen before." She began as she finally wrapped herself in a towel. "And as for the going to school idea, I've got nothing better to do."
Damon slowly stepped forward while Caroline and Evelyn removed their hands from their eyes. "Elena, it would make me very happy if you went to school today. And studied hardβ you know, get involved in whatever activities, and please, for me, no matter what, don't eat anyone."

"Ah. What an unpleasant surprise." Klaus smirked at the presence of Damon and Evelyn on his doorstep. He stepped aside and let the pair enter.
"Wow, and there's me thinking you'd be happy to see me, Niklaus." Evelyn raised an eyebrow as she received a quiet chuckle from the Hybrid.
"So, I just came up with a list called things you suck at," Damon smirked while Klaus remained unimpressedβwhich appeared to be a default setting whenever Damon spoke to him. "Number one: finding Katherine, ever. Number two: covering up your secret phone conversations to that little backstabber, Hayley."
"Which is kind of why we're here." Evelyn butted in, she could tell that Damon's tone of voice was angering Klaus and the best way to deal with the Hybrid, was to remain calm. "Where's Hayley and what exactly does she know about Katherine?"
"I should help you?" Klaus questioned as he glanced between Damon and Evelyn. "After you lot killed my brother and imprisoned me in the Gilbert living room?"
"You might want to prioritize, Klaus. You have much bigger problems. Katherine has the cure." Once Damon revealed the information to Klaus, his face dropped. "My guess is, she's gonna wanna cram it down your throat. You help us find Katherine, I'll get the cure, I'll give it to Elena. Everybody wins." Damon made a compelling argument for his cause.
"Please, Klaus." Evelyn pleaded again. "Just let us ask Hayley a few questions about Katherine and we'll go."
"Can't help you, love. Hayley's off-limits." Klaus smirked as he placed himself down in an armchair over the other side of the room. "Although I did have a run-in with a vampire who may know where Katerina is. Too bad for you, I bit halfway through his bloody neck, he probably won't have much time for chit-chat."

"What do you mean she fed? I specifically told her, no feeding!" Damon stressfully spoke into his cellphone after Stefan had called to inform him that Elena had fed on a cheerleader at the high school.
"The sire bond should make her listen." Evelyn shrugged. She couldn't understand why Elena had done the complete opposite of Damon's demand.
"Right, that's what I'm saying. The sire bond isn't working." Stefan started immediately. "Think about it; Elena's sire bond stems from her feelings for you, right? With her humanity off she has no feelings."
"All I wanted was to break that damn bond." The Salvatore growled once he how irritated Evelyn looked. "You're telling me now this whole time all she had to do was turn it off?"
A gasp of horror left Evelyn's lips as she glanced at Damon. "Wait, do you think she'll still be sired when she turns it back on?"
"I don't know, but more importantly, where are you both right now"
"We're at a truck stop in the boonies looking for a dead vampire that might lead to Katherine and the cure," Damon stated as he looked around the area. A sudden whoosh caused a suspicious look to fall across the vampire's faces. "Look, just grab her and get her home and I'll be there when I can."
A sigh of relief escaped Evelyn's lips as she turned around to see the blonde Original Vampire stood opposite them. "Rebekah."
"You. I thought you were still vacationing on numbskull island." Damon raised an eyebrow toward the woman.
"Well, I was looking for answers and all I found was your Professor Shane, dead. And with him, anything anyone knows about the cure." Rebekah informed, while they suspiciously eye her up.
"Guess you won't turn into a real girl after all." Damon chuckled to himself as he grabbed hold of Evelyn's arm, to tug her away from Rebekah.
"No, I'll get the cure. I just need Katherine and I'm betting you can help me find her." The blonde watched the pair stop in their tracks and slowly turn back around to face her.
"You want our help?" Evelyn scoffed toward the woman that she regarded as a friend. However, their relationship had become complicated. "Why would we help you?"
"Because I was smart enough to bring a pinch of my brother's blood. How else would you interrogate a vampire who's practically dead from a wolf bite?" Rebekah smirked as she held up a vial of Klaus' blood.
"Fine. Follow me. I might know where to look." Damon nodded his head toward a hospital just a short distance from them.
As they walked in, Evelyn compelled the receptionist to look the other way so they could freely roam the halls without any issues. "Why would a sick vampire check into a hospital?" Rebekah scoffed in disbelief.
"It's perfect. I mean, the suns out so he can't get far while that's hanging around and there's a steady stream of blood here." Evelyn shrugged. "A plus B, equalsβ"
Damon opened a door to a storeroom and the three quickly headed inside. They opened the fridges to where they kept the blood supplies, but every single fridge was empty.
"Impressive." Rebekah rolled her eyes. "You two are like Sherlock Holmes and John Watson but with brain damage."
"Wait," Evelyn called out as Damon continued to check the fridges. "Stefan said the blood bank at Mystic Falls was completely cleared out, too."
"Looks like our guy gets around."
"No. The guy's dying of a werewolf bite." Damon shook his head in disagreement. "He wouldn't have time to steal from both hospitals. This is someone else. But, that's another problem. But, on the plus side, if our guy did by chance come here, he's got nothing. Which means he's nearby and he's hungry."

Evelyn headed back to the Salvatore House while Damon went off with Rebekah to try and locate the vampire running about with a Klaus shaped hole mark in his neck. She walked towards the house, yet she could hear the screaming and cheering. There was a party going on and she knew exactly who had caused it.
"Elena!" Evelyn growled the minute she walked into the house to see the floods of people. The doppelganger smirked as she and Stefan walked down the staircase. "What the hell have you done?!"
"He was trying to keep me from joining the party soβ I brought the party here." She shot Stefan and Evelyn a smirk just before she ran off into the crowd.
The Austin vampire stared at Elena, who found herself dancing on the table with a few other girls. "Is it just me who finds her even more irritating with her humanity off? I mean, this party is insane."
"Yeah, it won't last. They'll drink all the booze and get bored." Stefan nodded.
"Or, Damon will come home and kill everyone." Evelyn shrugged with a smirk. "Come on, Stef. It's a party. May as well make the most of it."
Evelyn pulled Stefan out into the crowd of people and began to dance with him. Laughs and giggles came from both vampires while Elena watched the pair from the table she was standing on. A look of irritation crept across her face as she jumped down and strutted over to them. "Look who finally joined the party."
"Yeah, why? Are you jealous or something?" Stefan questioned, hoping that they'd triggered an emotion.
"No. That would imply emotions, we've already established those are useless. Besides, Evelyn's in love with your brother, not you. What do I really have to be jealous of, huh?" She shot the pair a fake smile.
"Ouch." Evelyn awkwardly cleared her throat as she rolled her eyes. "Remind me to apply some ice to the third-degree burns I've just taken."
"It's not her." Stefan rolled his eyes and pressed his hand on Evelyn's shoulder. "Nah. That part was. The bitchy, jealous part. It's just probably feelings she's repressed about me since I came to town."
"Mom!" Caroline's yell caused Stefan and Evelyn's eyes to turn toward the front door. The blonde vampire had thrown Elena away from her Mom before she fed on her.
"Caroline, calm down!" Stefan warned while Evelyn held Caroline back, though she remained thrashing about in her hold.
"Calm down? I'm gonna wring her skinny little neck." Caroline argued back as she desperately tried to fight Evelyn's grip. There was a sudden rush of air that pushed past them and Elena Gilbert was nowhere to be found.

After the events at the party, Damon and Evelyn managed to track down Elena, who had tried to kill Caroline. Evelyn had to break her neck just to get her in the car, though she enjoyed that a little too much. Damon insisted they needed to get the doppelganger out of town, so they were headed on a road trip and the brunette couldn't resist a getaway with Damonβthe only disappointing factor was the presence of Elena.
Evelyn slipped her phone from her pocket to see Stefan was calling and she placed it to her ear. "Where the hell are you, Evelyn?!"
"He wants to know where we are." The brunette vampire glanced over to Damon, who sat beside her in the front of his car before she put her phone on loudspeaker.
"Out for a drive. I needed some space. It's not me, it's you."
"Well, we've got a little problem. You said blood was stolen from Grove Hill's hospital. The Sheriff said there's been reports of six other blood bank thefts all within thirty-miles of Mystic Falls. Somebody's stockpiling blood." Stefan's voice contained nothing but concern for the situation. "If wasn't Elena and it's not any of us."
"What's your theory?" Evelyn furrowed her brows.
"I think Silas followed us back from that island. He hasn't fed in two-thousand years so he would need to gorge on blood. It explains the thefts."
"You know, I'm really not in the mood to Scooby-Doo our way through the case of the stolen blood supply. So, why don't you hold the fort down until Evelyn and I get back? We'll be in touch, brother." Damon smirked as Evelyn hung up on the Salvatore.
"He's gonna hate you for that." Elena sang from the back of the car with a bored look on her face.
"Yeah. Well, emotions are overrated," Damon muttered.
"So, where are we going?" The doppelganger asked again, which caused Evelyn to roll her eyes. It was not going to be a great getaway if Elena kept talking every five seconds.
"A place every newbie vampire should go at least once in their life. New York." Damon began as Evelyn turned her head while her eyes widened. "The city that never sleeps."
