HYDRA Base, Czechoslovakia

. .

Dread creeps down Bucky's spine, descending down his body until he is almost frozen to the spot that he is standing on. His stomach feels like it's full of lead and his mind is playing every grave scenario that could potentially happen on repeat.

"Steve, where the hell is she?" He shouts as his hands tremble by his side. His fingers curling into a fist and his nails digging into his palm painfully. His eyes are wide and ablaze with fear as he is completely and utterly terrified for Allie. He whirls around to look at Steve, hoping for an answer.

"If she got shot badly, she probably would've gone back towards the treeline where she entered. That would've been her safest bet to get out." Steve answers ashamed. He can't help but think that he caused this, but he has no time to wallow in self-pity. "Let's split up, half go right and half go left. That way we might be able to locate her quicker." He orders before he hastily turns and runs off to find Allie.

Bucky is quickly on his heels and the rest of the world fades into a blur as his main focus is finding Allie. With every stride that he takes, worry and fear torture his mind. It engulfs his conscience and sweeps all other thoughts aside. What if it's really bad? What if they don't find her?

What if he is too late?

His eyes search every inch of grass and dirt that he can see but to no avail. He screams and screams her name but he gets no response.

"Dernier, Jones, head into the treeline and look for her." He hears Steve order and he just assumes that the two men run off to do what Steve said because he doesn't turn around to look. Bucky just keeps running. With every second that goes past without him finding Allie, he gets even more worried about his girl. He almost feels the urge to throw up as his throat feels like it is closing up from anxiety.

"Bucky!" Steve shouts as he sprints to catch up to Bucky who has disappeared around the corner of the building, running as if his own life depended on it.

"Allie!" Bucky cries out at the top of his lungs when he turns the corner and spots a body lying on the ground around 50 yards ahead.

Bucky races over to her bleeding body and falls to his feet when he sees the state that she is in. Her body is completely white, free from her normal glow, and he can see small beads of sweat fall from the crown of her head.

"Allie! Doll, you need to wake up!" He begs as he slightly shakes her body. Just looking and her pained figure sends a knife into his gut that feels like it is slowly being twisted.

He hears Steve run over to them and crouch next to Bucky, placing two fingers on Allie's neck to find her pulse. He feels the familiar beat of her heart but it's slow, really slow.

"Guys we found her, she's at the doors of the south entrance. Go back and alert the jet and bring it closer." Steve says into the earpiece, informing the rest of the team of their location.

"Steve... what do I do? I'm not a doctor, I- uh... I don't know how to help her." He mumbles as he gently moves a piece of her dark hair from her face.

"First we need to find where the bullets are," Steve answers, trying to stay calm for his best friend. "There's no wound on her front so it must be on her back. We need to flip her over gently." He tells Bucky who nods slightly at his words.

"Flip her now," Steve says as he lightly takes hold of the lower side of her body. Bucky quickly does the same with her upper half and the two flip her onto her front. Bucky quickly goes to move her head to the side so she can breathe and then he looks to her shoulder that is covered in crimson blood.

"Bucky you need to rip off a piece of your shirt." Steve orders as he quickly puts pressure on the wound. Bucky does as he is told and tears the bottom of his shirt off, handing it over to Steve when he is done.

"Buck, you might want to calm her down because I think that this will be quite painful," Steve mumbles as he straightens out the material and begins to weave it around Allie's chest.

"Why? What are you doing?" He questions as he moves around to the other side of Allie's body and gently cradles her head in his hands.

"I've got to tie this around her shoulder to stop the blood getting to the wound which might cause her a fair bit of pain," Steve answers as he starts to tie the shirt into a knot. When he tightens it around the wound, he notices that she doesn't make a single noise.

He hastily knots the material so that it will stop the blood flow and then he places his two fingers back on her neck worriedly. He lets out a relieved sigh when he feels her pulse but it is a lot fainter than before, she needs help now or else she will bleed out.

"Why didn't she wake up?" Bucky asks anxiously as he grasps Allie's cold hand in his.

"She's loosing too much blood," Steve mutters, not exactly answering Bucky's question. "Where is the jet?" Steve yells into the earpiece angrily as he looks over to Bucky who is staring down at Allie nervously.

"We are a minute away Cap, sit tight." Dum Dum answers and Bucky lets out a frustrated growl.

"She doesn't have a minute! She needs help now!" Bucky cries out as he softly wipes the dirt from Allie's forehead. This can't possibly be it for them, he thinks. They should have so much more time left. Their forever isn't up yet.

"Buck, she'll be alright. She's stronger than anyone I know." Steve tries to comfort Bucky who nods at him slightly. He looks down at her ghostly pale body and prays to whatever higher power that there is to keep her alive.

Steve is then interrupted from his chain of thoughts when he hears two pairs of loud footsteps running towards them. He turns around swiftly and sees that it's just Jones and Dernier. "Steve, Buck, is she alright?" Dernier asks in concern as they near the two men who look absolutely crushed.

"She will be if she gets the help that she needs soon," Steve answers, not quite meeting their eyes. He thinks that this is his fault. He was the leader on this mission and one of his comrades got hurt because his plan didn't work. He let his team walk blindly into a dangerous mission when he knew that the risk was too high. He has let his team down, and most of all, he let Allie down.

Before anyone else has the opportunity to say something, a thundering noise is heard from up above. Almost simultaneously, all the men tilt their heads up to the sky and see a relatively small plane flying overhead.

"Cap, Barnes, we're coming in for landing." They hear over their comms as the aircraft begins to lower itself onto the ground around 50 feet away. The newfound wind whips at their faces as the plane descends, courtesy of the large engines that power the jet. As the aircraft nears the ground, Steve begins to carefully pick Allie up in his arms. Bucky hurries up to his feet as well and watches his love dangle in Steve's arms, still unconscious and losing more and more blood by the minute.

"C'mon Allie, please don't leave me," Bucky almost whimpers as he follows Steve who is now running towards the plane that has finally lowered itself onto the green grass up ahead.

They run towards the dark steel jet and jump through the door that is flung open by Dum Dum. "We've contacted the nearest U.S encampment and they have a medical team on standby." He informs them as Steve quickly lays Allie down across the seats on the side of the plane.

"How far out are we," Steve responds as he watches Bucky kneel on the floor by her side, whispering into her ear as he gently wipes away the hair that clings to her pale face.

"Ten minutes sir," Dum Dum replies, sending his own worried glance to the unconscious girl and his friend that has to sit there and watch the life slowly fade from her.

"Make it two." Steve orders and Dum Dum nods apprehensively before he makes his way up to the cockpit to talk to the pilot. Steve turns back around and places a gentle hand on his best friends shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. But in reality, it was comforting no one.

July 1931

"Schlag härter, Kind! / Hit harder child!" She heard her Meister yell as she received another painful punch into her stomach. She let out a strangled groan as she fought the strong urge to just fall to the floor and yield. But she knew what the consequences of yielding were, so instead she swiftly blocked her opponent's incoming punch with her forearm and sent a fist of her own hurtling towards their nose.

Luckily, her opponent predicted what her next move would be but he was too slow in evading her blow. He quickly tried to move out of Allie's fireline but he was too late, resulting in a painful hit on his cheek.

Whilst her opponent was shocked from the hit, she quickly spun and kicked him in the side. Then she bobbed down onto the ground and swept his feet out from under her, successfully knocking over her opponent.

The second that the young boys back hit the ground, she jumped on top of him and quickly cut off his airway and restrained his limbs. She held his body down tightly until she heard the all familiar sound of a hand banging against the mat and then she released him without a second thought.

She quickly stood straight back up and kept her gaze hardened onto the concrete walls. She could hear her meister slowly making his way onto the mat as the boy scrambled to get onto his feet, still heaving heavily. His light blonde hair fell onto his brow, sticking to his forehead and his skin was so pale it made him look stark white against the dark grey uniform he wore. He wasn't very tall for a boy of his age but he had much more muscle on his body than what she did. He wore a fearful expression on his face, and she would too if she just lost this fight.

"Guter Sieg, Soldat. / Good win, soldier." The meister said as he stood next to Allie who gave him a slight nod but kept her gaze firm against the wall.

" Bring ihn in die Kammern. / Take him to the chambers." He ordered the two guards who stood at the door of the room who swiftly strode over and took the young boy by the arm and began to drag him out.

"Nicht dort! Bitte! / Not there! Please!" The boy screamed as he tried to pull himself from the men's arms but to no avail. They quickly hauled him out of the room and Allie couldn't help but feel guilt claw at her small heart. She had been to that room many times. It was a room that would scare even the bravest of men and woman, and as much as it makes her a horrible person, she would rather him go back there then her.

"Deine Schläge waren schwach. / Your blows were weak." The meister commented as he took a step in front of Allie, making her look at his old, withered face. A jagged scar ran down from the edge of his hairline on his temple down to the tip of his cheekbone which gave him a frightening face. His dark eyes stared down at hers emotionlessly as he lifted up the whip that was in his wrinkled hand.

"Ja, Meister. / Yes, Meister." She responded quietly as she averted her eyes away from the dark leather that he gripped tightly in his hand.

"Dreh dich um. / Turn around." He ordered gruffly which made Allie gulp as she slowly turned around to face the back of the room. Her back tensed as she awaited for her painful prize for winning her fight.

He swiftly sent the whip cracking across her back and she clenched her mouth closed to keep her cries of pain in. She felt her hands tighten at her sides as she bit down on her lip harshly and was rewarded with the coppery taste of blood in her mouth.

"Nächstes Mal besser machen./ Do better next time." He declared as he sent the whip down onto her now bloody back again.

"Ja, Meister. / Yes, Meister." She whimpered, trying to hold in her cries of pain. She wasn't allowed to whine, to cry, or to move when she was being punished. She deserved her punishment and if she showed any sign of not being tough enough to handle it, she would get a worse one.

When the Meister was satisfied with his work, he nodded at the guards who then walked over to the young girl that was still standing on her feet bravely and dragged her down to the cafeteria.

She struggled to keep up with the two men's large strides as they walked down the familiar halls of her home. They were bleak and unwelcoming which didn't do much to lift her attitude. The two hands that pulled at either one of her arms were clenched tightly which began to hurt Allie but she kept her mouth shut so she wouldn't be rewarded with another beating.

Before long, she reached the cafeteria where all the other kids were starting to eat their dinner which just looked like a pile of cow manure. The two men let go of Allie before they turned back around and headed back towards the gym.

Allie hastily made her way towards the front of the room where she silently collected her own meal before she took her seat at her usual table. There was already a mousey looking boy sitting there which made Allie's lips turn up in a small smile, distracting her slightly from the pain that ran down her back.

"Hello Mikael," She greeted as she took her seat across from him, wincing as her new wounds began to throb. Mikael was slumped in his chair, his dark chocolate locks looked rather matted and dull as lifted his bright blue eyes up to her own dark one. A smile pulled at his pink lips despite his bruised and pale looking body that seemed to be reveling in a copious amount of pain.

"Hello, Allie." He murmured back as he lifted the spoon filled with slops up to his mouth to eat. Mikael had come from England almost a year ago and they quickly became friends, Allie's only friend at HYDRA.

"How was your test?" She asked him as she slowly began to eat her horrid food.

"I won, but it wasn't easy." He replied as he winced in pain from using his arm which looked very broken. "What about you?" He asked as he cradled his injured limb against his weary body.

"I'm here, aren't I?" She answered, looking down at her food to avoid his pitiful gaze. He knew how much she despised that room, and she had been in there more than double the amount of times that all the other kids had.

"How were your classes?" He asked as he looked over at her downtrodden face.

"Boring, I don't get why we need to be learning all this stuff." She replied with a sigh as she forced herself to eat her dinner, trying to forget about her own injured body.

"Neither do I but we just have to." He said rather sadly.

"God, I just want to run away and finally eat some good food!" She exclaimed exasperatedly which caused Mikael's eyes to go wide and he hurriedly shook his head in disapproval. They were both kids, neither of them knew any way of getting out of HYDRA by themselves and they had no one that they could ask for help.

"We can't run away!" He almost yelped as she looked over at him, his fear completely evident in his cerulean eyes.

"I know that, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to." She groaned as she shoveled another mouthful of her dinner into her mouth, shriveling up her face in distaste.

"Stille! / Silence!" The guard yelled that was standing over at the front of the room, the children were all supposed to be eating in silence but Allie and Mikael never did. They always whispered to each other as they ate their meals since they became friends.

"Have you seen Herr Schmidt's yet? Apparently, he is here and is looking for people to take to Austria?" Mikael murmurs under his breath as he averts his gaze from Allie down to his food, trying not to get in trouble from the guard that was glaring at the two of them.

"No, I don't know if I even want to see him." She replied as she continued to eat her food.

"Why not?" He asks puzzled, all of the kids wanted to meet Herr Schmidt. He was like God at HYDRA and all these kids were being trained to be his replacement. So he was confused about why Allie wouldn't want to meet him especially considering she was one of the best out of the lot of them.

"I've heard off how badly he treats his soldiers, and if it's any worse than here, I don't want to go with him at all." She answered, quickly raising her eyes up to his before dropping them down to her nearly empty bowl.

"But you would finally get away from the Meister!" He said as he ran a hand through his thick, curly hair.

"And why would I want to get away from the Meister if Herr Schmidt is worse than the Meister?" She responded right before the all too familiar bell went off, indicating that dinner time was over and they now have to retire to their beds. She quickly placed her bowl in the small tray by the end of her table before she got up and began to leave the room, following the few other girls to their dormitory.

"Goodnight Mikael." She whispered as she neared the doorway, keeping her head down as she passed the guard who still glared at the two of them.

"Goodnight Allie." He replied before they split off to go their separate ways.

. .

Allie's eyes slowly flicker open. She blinks, closing her eyes and opening them again as she gets herself used to the brightness of the room. Streaks of sunlight trickle in through the window behind her and she furrows her eyebrows when she sees that she is covered in an unfamiliar white blanket.

She suddenly felt a volt of pain rush up from her shoulder which causes her to heave in a breath. She looks down at her shoulder and sees clean, white bandages covering the extensive area.

She looks around the room that she is in and soon realizes that she is in a hospital which causes her eyes to go wide in fear. She glances down at her arm and sees that there is an IV drip lodged into her vein and she quickly goes to pull it out.

She doesn't know where she is and she's alone, and those two things should never be put together.

Her weakened state and frenzied mind somehow make it difficult for her to pull the damn thing out which causes her to grow increasingly frustrated and scared. Her brain feels almost frozen and she can barely comprehend a single thought except trying to get out of here alive.

Her mind spins as she tries to pull the drip out and she screws her face up when she feels pain run up her arm from the action. She needs to get out of here and find Bucky.

But before she yanks the needle out, a warm hand encloses her wrist, forcing her to stop pulling. "Hey, doll, you need to stop!" She hears someone cry out which causes her to whip her head up in shock.

"Hey, it's alright doll, it's just me," Bucky says which causes her to let out a relieved sigh. She looks at his worried cobalt eyes and she sees how disheveled he looks which causes her to tilt her head in confusion.

"Bucky, what happened? Where am I?" She asks in alarm, her body still tense as Bucky pries her hand from the IV and threads his own fingers between hers.

"You're in a hospital, Allie. You were shot during our mission and we brought you back here. You nearly died." He whispers sadly, pulling the chair behind him closer to Allie before he sits down.

"I-I think I remember that..." She trails off as his words suddenly cause her mind to remember how she got here.

"You've had everyone worried, doll. You have been out for nearly a week." Bucky tells her, giving her a sad smile as the pad of his thumb gently strokes her sickly, pale skin.

"Wait, where are we?" She questions as she looks around the room and sees words in a foreign language that she has never learned before.

"We are somewhere in Czechoslovakia, but we are at a U.S camp so you are safe," Bucky answers, tightening his grip on her hand slightly in an attempt to calm her down.

"Is Steve here?" She asks, raising her gaze back up to his bright blue eyes.

"Yes, he just went to go get us some lunch. The rest of the boys are here too, they wanted to make sure that you were ok." Bucky replies, looking up to the clock that says its just after midday.

"Even Jones?" She inquires, quirking her eyebrow slightly.

"Even Jones." Bucky laughs before he clears his throat and looks down at Allie nervously."I didn't want to bring this back up, but how were you shot, doll? Dum Dum and Dernier said that you were just checking empty rooms?"

"I-uh, I found an underground basement and went down to check it out." She starts which makes Bucky shake his head at her carelessness. "There were three scientists operating on a little boy and I shot them and tried to escape with the kid. I must have not seen the third because he shot me as we were climbing up the stairs. Somehow I was able to shoot him while the kid ran off and then everything's blurry after that." She continues with a frown as she can't exactly remember making it out of the base.

"Was his the kid's name Mikael?" Bucky asks which makes Allie's eyes go wide.

"W-What?" She stutters, completely at a loss for words. Her mouth falls open as she stares at him in horror, thinking about how the hell that Bucky could have found out about him.

"You just kept mumbling Mikael and some German while you were out. It had me thinking that you were seeing another man!" He laughs as his eyes search hers for answers.

"I-uh, He..." She starts, completely unsure about what to tell him. But thankfully, Steve comes stumbling into the room holding a brown paper bag in his hand.

"Hey Buck, they only had meatballs- Allie! You're awake!" He almost shouts and immediately races up to her side where Bucky is sitting. She lets out a sigh of relief when the topic of Mikael is dropped and a happy smile overcomes her lips when she sees how relieved Steve is.

"Hey, Steve." She grins, looking up into Steve's happy blue eyes and watching him as he sweeps his windswept blonde hair off his face.

"It's great to finally see you awake again! If you were asleep any longer Bucky might have died from anxiety. And I might've died with him considering how bad he smells because he didn't want to leave your side, not even to take a much-needed shower." He jokes, giving Bucky a teasing nudge.

"Steve!" Bucky groans, throwing his head back up in annoyance as Allie and Steve chuckle lightly.

"How are you feeling, Allie?" Steve asks with concern lacing his voice as he takes a seat in the spare chair beside Bucky.

"My shoulder hurts a bit but it's not too bad." She replies with a small smile before she clears her throat. "What has the doctor said?" She questions, looking at the two blue-eyed men for answers.

"Well, last time I spoke to her she said that you would be out for a minimum of three maybe four weeks depending on how quickly the wound heals." Bucky starts which causes her mouth to drop open. "She also said that you were extremely lucky that the bullet missed all your major arteries and muscles." He continues, noting the frustration that wells up in her chocolate eyes.

"Three weeks!" She exclaims unhappily. "What the hell am I supposed to do for three weeks?" She groans, throwing both Steve and Bucky a pleading look.

"You're lucky it's just three weeks, people die from getting shot, doll!" Bucky argues which makes Allie shake her head, not accepting the fact that she has to sit out.

"Don't worry we've already talked to the Colonel about it. He said that you could help Peggy train the recruits and you could even help Howard with all that science stuff that you two do, he's flying into London next week apparently." Steve cuts in before Allie has the chance to return a bitter quip to Bucky's statement.

"But what about fighting HYDRA? You guys will have to do it without me?" She questions with a frown on her chapped lips.

"It's only a couple of weeks so you're not going to miss very many missions. You'll be back before you even know it." Steve replies, looking over to Bucky who nods at his words which causes Allie to let out a defeated sigh. She knows that Bucky and Steve won't let her come back until she is fully healed and fighting them about it isn't going to do her any favors so she just decides to bite her tongue and accept her punishment.

"How are Peggy and Howard?" She questions, trying to hide her obvious displeasure about the previous topic.

"They are worried about you. They heard what happened and are waiting to hear when you wake up, which they now don't have to do anymore." Bucky answers.

"Is Peggy still in London?" She asks and Steve nods his head.

"She is, and more than likely still giving the soldiers there hell." He says with a slight chuckle and Allie grins in agreement.

"It wouldn't be our Peggy if she wasn't." She states which causes both the men to smile. But before any of them have the chance to open their mouths, the door to Allie's room is pushed open and a young female nurse waltzes in holding a wooden clipboard in her hands.

"Goodmorning boys, and welcome back to the world Ms. Williams! It's nice to finally see you awake." She greets with a friendly smile. Her green eyes look into Allie's as she strides into the room, her long auburn hair bouncing as she walks.

"Thank you, Ms...?" Allie trails off, looking at the lady in confusion.

"Ms. Miller, and you are Alexandra Williams correct?" She asks while she jots down information on the piece of paper that she holds in her hands.

"Yes, ma'am," Allie answers, nodding her head slightly at the nurse.

"There's no need for such formalities, you can call me Elizabeth or Beth if you like." She answers warmly with her happy grin still clinging to her painted red lips.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Beth, and you can call me Allie," Allie replies, returning a small smile of her own as Beth walks to Allie's opposite side and starts going through the cupboards of pills looking for God knows what.

"Right, well unfortunately, I have to ask you two boys to leave while I check Allie over. I shouldn't be too long so you are welcome to wait just outside if you like?" She announces as she pulls out three yellow bottles of pills and places them on the silver tray that sits on Allie's bedside table.

"Oh, sure, that's fine," Steve says as he gets up from his chair while Bucky does the same.

"I'll be back soon, doll," Bucky tells her as he bends down and places a loving kiss on her forehead. A smile graces her lips at the action and she lets him reluctantly pull his hand out of hers as he starts to leave.

"Bye Bucky." She mumbles as he pulls away from her and follows Steve to the door. "Bye Steve." She continues, slightly louder as they push the wooden door open and begin to file out. Steve gives her a smile and murmurs a quick goodbye before he closes the door and lets the nurse look Allie over.
