. .

The Bucky that Allie used to know, has begun to slowly fade away right in front of her eyes. With every visit that she makes, she sees how the experiments wear away at him like terminal cancer. If it is even humanly possible, he has begun to get even thinner and paler than what he used to be. He no longer resembles the muscular, flirty man that she remembers.

Every single time she goes in the examination room and creates more mixtures to counteract the chemicals that the crazy doctors have created, Bucky would ask her to tell him stories. He asks this so that he can escape the horrors that this world has granted him with, an escape to a place of distraction.

So she would tell him fantasies of what she dreamed her childhood was actually like. Stories so vivid that she herself, would get lost in them as well. But that spell would be broken when Allie would go over to Bucky and gently touch his body. At even the slightest of touch, he would wail in agony. There was no doubting the torturous pain that the injections were making him endure.

Every day she would pray that he would somehow be let back into the cells with all the other soldiers and made to work on the Valkyrie. But she knew that it would never happen. Especially now that the doctors believe that they are on the edge of a medical breakthrough.

Allie is quite cunning and intelligent which means that she has been able to get herself into seeing Bucky at least once every week. She would wait until 10 o'clock and then she would somehow break her way into Bucky's room to see him without arousing any suspicion. But now that they think that they can recreate the superhuman serum, they are pushing the boundaries of science dangerously close to death. Allie now has to get into Bucky's room every day and is tasked with fixing the mistakes of the stupid scientists who would rather get faster results from a dead person than wait and have a living model.

Luckily, Allie still had a key to the tactical room so she stole a blonde wig from there and took a spare nurses' uniform from the doctor's offices which means that she can sneak into the examination room without having to worry about someone spotting her. Many people just overlook nurses, so she has never been questioned about why she has been visiting the patient's so late at night.

But now as Allie waits in the overwatch room, staring at the wall of tv screen's, she feels hopeless. Her visit to Bucky last night was horrible, he could barely keep his eye's open and his mind has begun to play tricks on itself. He didn't even know who she was despite telling him multiple times that it was Allie, his friend. He just kept on mumbling about Steve, his younger siblings, flying cars and someone called Howard Stark as he laid down on the cold metal table.

But it doesn't matter that he was in a such a bad mental and physical state, all that really matters is that she keeps him alive for long enough so that she can figure out how to get him out of here. It doesn't even matter if she doesn't get out with him, he just needs to be freed from these terrors. She isn't the one that is having to endure these painful experiments. Her own life isn't under immediate threat so she needs to get him away from here. Away from HYDRA.

But before she can think about the subject for any longer, she is pulled out of her thoughts by the door to the room that she is in being slammed open. She swiftly swings her chair around and holds her hand over the cold silver knife that is held in her thigh strap.

A man walks in from the hallway and regards Allie and the man, who Allie has learned to be called Felix, with a curt nod. As he walks, his big boots make a rhythmical sound against the concrete flooring. The noise is solid and regular, like a soldier. The man's face is stern as he stops his movement and stares at her. The smooth metal of his gun that hangs off his hip, glimmers in the dim light.

"Miss Williams, Herr Schmidt requires your presence in his office regarding an urgent matter." The man states emotionlessly. "I am to escort you to his office." He continues and waits for her to get out of the chair that she is sitting in.

Allie gives the man a nod and pushes her self up from the seat, ready to follow him outside. Together, they make their way wordlessly out of the room and towards Schmidt's office which is only a short distance away.

Once they reach his office, the man raps his knuckles on the door and pushes the door open when he hears Schmidt's brief reply. The two walk into the room silently and salute Schmidt who rises from his own chair and does the same. Schmidt gives a curt nod to the man who then turns to exit the room, leaving Allie and Schmidt alone.

"Ms. Williams, please take a seat." He says with a smirk, gesturing to the wooden chair that sits across from him. Allie goes to take the seat in the chair and admires Schmidt's lavish office. His walls are painted a magnificent ruby red. A red that matches the horribly disfigured face that hides behind the synthetic mask that he wears. She has never seen his actual face in person, but she has heard the stories and rumors that float around HYDRA. His appearance is utterly terrifying and has apparently even caused a man to have a heart attack and die.

In front of Allie, sits a beautiful mahogany desk with a map of the world laid out on top. Many markers are placed in various spots on the map, symbolizing the fortification of Europe by HYDRA. In the corner of the desk, a small stack of paperwork lays untouched and to her left stands a wall of bookshelves that are filled with books, trinkets and army possessions alike.

"Now Ms. Williams, I am sure that you are wondering why you are here, nein?" Schmidt announces as he returns to sitting in his own chair. Allie continues to stare at the man in silence which causes an angry sneer to overtake his face. "Now Liebling, is not the time to be petty." He continues.

"Don't call me that." She growls angrily and watches as his sneer turns into a satisfied grin.

"Don't you have a ferocious bark." He remarks before continuing. "On to urgent matters then. Ms. Williams, you are to be shipped off to the United States tomorrow to take the lead in a surveillance mission with a few other soldiers." Schmidt spits with distaste. Allie's eyes widen in shock but once again, she doesn't make a sound.

"Now do not mistake this mission as a show of our trust. You are still considered a verräter, but unfortunately, we don't have any other qualified spies on hand and ready to be flown out by tomorrow due to its urgent nature. You will be watched closely by fellow trusted soldiers that are going with you and a briefing will be held later tonight that you must attend to hash out all the details of the assignment." Schmidt addresses, carefully watching Allie who is trying her hardest to not show her internal anguish.

"However, if you fulfill this mission you may be able to work your way back up to your previous status as a trusted and high ranking official of HYDRA. Our trust in you must be earnt back" Schmidt states as he looks down at some file son his desk and begins to rifle through them.

Allie clears her throat and Schmidt raises his gaze up to her with a raised eyebrow. "What does the mission entail?" She asks monotonously.

"Well, you will be sneaking into Stark Industries to search for information regarding Erskine's serum that we believe is in Howard Stark's possession. He is currently staying in his hometown of New York City and he is now an active member of the Strategic Scientific Reserve alongside Captain American and your dear friend, Abraham Erskine." Schmidt states with a sneer. Allie lets out an almost inaudible growl as Schmidt continues. "After the success of Project Rebirth, we are almost certain that Stark would have some notes on the serum which is of the utmost importance as they need to be taken before any copies are made. We can't afford anymore Steven Rogers running around and ruining our plans."

"If the serum worked why don't you just steal the recipe off Erskine?" Allie questions confused. Schmidt shakes his head and stands up from his seat to go over to a bookshelf to grab something.

"We have already exhausted that option and it failed. We did not get Erskine's notes but fortunately, not all of the mission was a complete failure." Schmidt says with a smile as he turns around from the bookshelf and hands Allie a small yellow cyanide pill. "We also got valuable intel which you will be informed off at the briefing. Do not forget to take the pill, you know what to do with it." He concludes with finality, indicating that this meeting is over.

Allie nods her head and places the small pill in her breast pocket before saluting Schmidt and leaves his office. As she walks back to her job questions run rampant through her mind, driving her to the edge of insanity. What happened to Erskine? Is he ok? How long will she be gone for? What will happen to Bucky? What will happen to her?

Only time will tell if this mission will be a success or a failure.

. .

After attending the briefing and returning to her job at the overwatch room, Allie is still unsure whether she should go on this mission or not. She doesn't really have a choice in the matter but she doesn't want to leave Bucky alone and exposed to the tortures of the doctors without being there to help him. She definitely can't help him if she is in a completely different continent them him.

But perhaps she could somehow leave a message for Howard. If he is apart of the S.S.R with Erskine then he would be somewhat obligated to hand any information to the board or even Captain America, who is, funnily enough, Bucky's best friend. However, this plan is heavily reliant on Howard believing a random note that could potentially be fraudulent and be a waste of time. She would somehow need to convince him that the note holds actual information which is extra hard considering this is only a reconnaissance mission.

The briefing was short but informative, as she is to spend 72 hours gathering information on whether Howard has the notes on the serum. In those 3 days, she has 12 hours to pretend to be his interim assistant and gain access to his office. But as she is actually going to hold a conversation with Howard, albeit recorded, she could somehow get him to trust her.

With a sigh, she lowers her face into her hands and looks up to the clock in the room. The hands read 10 o'clock and much like every other night, she pushes herself out of the chair and heads towards the old utility room. She walks the short distance to the undiscovered alcove and pushes the old wooden door open, revealing the small room filled with steel cupboards and a single wooden benchtop. She pulls open one of the cupboards and grabs her black bag that is filled with her disguise. She quickly changes into the baby blue dress and blonde wig before she shoves her clothes into the bag and leaves the room, heading towards her only friend.

She stumbled upon this room when she was playing hide and seek with her partner many years ago when she was still apart of Projekt Fenrir. She had hidden away in this room for hours before she decided to leave and get food but was then severely punished for a week for missing her afternoon training. She had later found out that nobody had found her because it was the only area of the camp that is not equipped with a camera and she is now using that to her advantage.

She quickly makes her way towards the examination room and is just about to push the door open when she spots a lonesome doctor scrambling around inside Bucky's room. She mumbles some obscenities under her breath before she turns and enters the vacant room next door. She pushes herself against the wall and listens intently for the noises that the doctor is making in the adjacent room. She hears him flounder around and the clinking of glasses before the door is slammed to a shut. Allie peaks out from behind the wall and watches the doctor turn around the corner of the hallway and disappear.

She quietly nudges the door open and enters Bucky's room and is once again greeted with the sight of the sickly man, half asleep and mumbling random words.

Allie walks up to Bucky's gaunt figure and places a soft hand on his shoulder, causing him to avert his eyes to her face. "Hey Bucky, it's me, Allie." She says with a soft smile. A frown overtakes his dirty face and confusion swims in his now dull cerulean eyes.

"Allie?" He questions, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Yeah Buck, do you remember me?" Allie replies, trying to hide the frown that is soon to be mirrored on her own face.

"No, should I?" Bucky answers despite the overwhelming desire to sleep that threatens to overtake his body. Allie's heart almost breaks as she hears his words but she plasters a smile on her lips and forces her eyes to stop watering.

"No, it's ok. I'm going to do a quick check up on you and then you can sleep, Buck." She tells him and quickly averts her attention to the notes and beakers that lie over on the benchtop. This is the worst that Bucky has been in weeks, Allie thinks as she reads over the notes and begins to concoct a small shot that should counteract the effect of some of the drugs that the doctors had injected Bucky with. She cannot fix all of the damage that they are doing but at the least, she can offer some relief from the pain that he has to endure. She grabs a variety of chemicals and ingredients that she mixes together and soon is left with a soft blue mixture that fills up a plain white syringe.

She turns around to face Bucky, holding the syringe in her hand and is immediately greeted with wild eyes and an almost guttural scream pushes past his chapped lips. Bucky begins to thrash in his chair and tears escape from his beautiful eyes.

"DON'T TOUCH ME! PLEASE DON'T!" He yells over and over as he flails around in anguish. Allie quickly places the syringe down on the bench top and rushes over to Bucky who flinches away from her touch. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" He screams, frightened. His breaths are coming out in gasps and his heart almost beats out of his chest. Fear and anxiety swirl inside his head and all he wants is to be free of this torturous place. His limbs tremble and salty tears fall down his face as he squirms underneath his bonds.

"Buck! I'm not going to hurt you ok, I just need you to quiet down." She responds calmly with a small smile. She places a hand gently on his arm and tries to soothe his distraught reaction. Bucky slowly does what he is told and stares up at Allie with the most scared look that she has ever seen in her life.

"Please don't hurt me like the doctors do..." He trails off as he looks up at Allie with wild eyes.

"I'm not going to Buck, we are friends! Friends don't hurt friends." She reassures him and strokes the side of his ghostly place face. "I just need to give you this medicine ok? It's going to make you feel a lot better but it's nothing like the stuff that the doctors give to you. It's good medicine." She says with a smile and runs her fingers through his coffee-colored locks. Bucky looks up at her with hesitation but slowly nods his head in agreement. She gives him a wide smile and then turns around to get the syringe of the bench. She returns to his side and gently rubs her fingers over the spot in his arm where she is going to inject him.

"This shouldn't hurt much, it will just be a little prick. After you will feel very sleepy, alright?" She asks, making sure that Bucky knows what's going on and when he nods back at her she pushes the needle into his soft skin. She pushes down on the plunger and the blue liquid seeps into his bloodstream. Bucky squirms lightly in discomfort but makes no move to stop her. She then pulls the needle out of his skin and wipes some antiseptic over the area before discarding the syringe into the trash.

Allie looks up to Bucky and notices that his eyes are slowly fluttering to a close as sleep overtakes his body. With a small smile, she bends over and takes his hand in her own, gently stroking his rough skin.

"Goodbye Buck, don't you dare die on me." She speaks softly, expecting no response as she looks over his body to make sure that she has done everything in her power to make sure that he is not suffering. Once she sees that he has fallen to sleep she makes her way out of the room and heads back towards the utility room to change.

. .

The next morning Allie wakes up early and she quickly changes into her tactical gear for the flight. At HYDRA, they slowly wean their soldiers off food so that they can preserve resources, which means that breakfast is not an available option. Instead, Allie quickly rushes out of the room and heads towards the briefing room where she is to meet her partners for the mission. She pushes open the door to the room and sees the three other soldiers who are accompanying her and she greets them all with a quick salute.

Klaus, the leader of the mission, is a tall and muscular man. His face is mostly obscured by a blonde scraggly beard that clings to his skin and he holds a stern face with eyed devoid of any warmth.

Stefan is to be Allie's partner on the mission, or perhaps more accurately, her 'watcher'. He is much leaner than Klaus and seems to have no muscles underneath his own uniform. However, the man is a clear head higher than anyone else she would normally call tall and he is renowned for his intelligence. He has a clean-shaven, square face with the voice of a pubescent teen. He doesn't seem to be a day over 20.

Finally, there is Dieter, a much more mysterious and reserved man. He would be what you would call, an average man. He has a slight stubble covering his face, he is of average height and normal build but is wearing a fancy suit, the kind you see on politicians or lawyers. His almost grey eyes, take in the room with a single sweep yet still remain completely expressionless.

The four of them are going to be shipped off within the hour and they are now having their final briefing before they take off. In the first briefing, she only met Klaus and Stefan but she knew that one of Schmidt's American associates would be joining their travel over to the States. She has never seen Dieter in her life before, despite being at HYDRA for nearly 20 years.

"Alright, listen up Soldaten. We are to be on the plane in the next half hour so that we will be landing in New Jersey right after dusk. From there Dieter has organized a truck that will pick us up and get us across the border and into Manhatten, which is where Howard Stark is currently residing. At first light of the next morning is when the countdown begins. We have 48 hours to find as much information on Project Rebirth and the serum as possible. At the end of the second day, Stefan will break into Stark's assistant's house and slip her a small pill that will trigger a quick but harmless viral infection. This pill will cause her to miss work the next day and instead be replaced by Alexandra who will have unrestricted access to Howard's computer and files." Klaus announces sternly as his eyes flick around the group with disinterest.

"Your new name will be Miss Sandra Anthony, an only child who relocated from England with her family to the States after World War One. You will have a tracking and recording device on you at all times and are to follow all orders or else you will be executed on the spot. Do you understand?" Klaus growls angrily and awaits for Allie's reply.

"Yes, Klaus." She mutters bitterly and a sadistic smile reaches Klaus' lips. "Are there any questions?" He asks sharply, grabbing the large backpack and guns that lay inside the cupboard behind him. "No? Well then get to work." He yells.

Allie turns around and reaches into her own cupboard and pulls out a smaller backpack that is filled with clothes and other necessities. She pulls out the small guns and knives that are also in the cupboard and clips them into the holsters on her uniform. Once they have finished gathering their stuff, they all make their way to the landing strip where they are greeted with the thunderous roar of an airplane. The completely black jet is small but mighty, and will hopefully get them into America completely undetected. The group make their way up the runway and climb into the jet silently. Allie takes her seat at the back of the jet alone and she spins a small throwing knife in her hand absentmindedly.

She has half the mind to jump out of the jet and make a run for it but she doesn't. She needs to stay alive for Bucky. It isn't just her anymore, she has someone else to look after. She has a friend that needs her. But is this her last goodbye?
