fanfic etiquette is simply what you should and shouldn't do when reading fanfiction.

and it's simple really... just be kind. that's really all we ask for as writers.

if you like a book, vote on the chapters, leave comments expressing your interest, add the book to your library / reading list, and maybe even recommend it to other readers.

as for what not to do... don't leave rude comments about the writing, the characters, the plot, or anything. please respect the author, the characters, the ships they choose to write, the fandoms they write for, and the changes they make the fandom for the sake of their fic.

don't demand updates, people have lives outside of wattpad and it's insensitive. authors are not little robots that are here to solely update what you want, when you want it. you are not entitled to anything, much less an update for a book that someone else is taking the time and effort to write.

don't plagiarize someone's ideas, plots, characters, or graphics. this should be common sense, but it seems people still don't understand it. you will get caught, even if it takes a while. people we find out and you will be reported. plagiarism isn't funny, it's not cute, it's not cool, it's rude and disrespectful. ( translating a book with the author's consent is also considering plagerism )

don't add someone's book to a reading list with rude or insensitive names. authors can see when you add their books to reading lists and putting a book in a list with a mean name is just plain rude ( i have an entire chapter about this called 'reading lists' )

and the biggest thing... IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T READ IT! you don't have to leave a mean comment saying that you don't like the book, you don't have to berate the characters for making a decision that you don't agree with. you don't have to attack the author for any reason what so ever. if you don't like it, just stop reading it.

just keep your mouth shut and move on.
