BEN HAD LEFT HOURS AGO FOR WORK, LEAVING SHAY AND LEELA ALONE FOR THE DAY.
Shay was busying herself with cleaning the house and doing some much needed laundry while Leela took an afternoon nap. Shay felt good in her relationship with Ben, like it was once again moving in the right direction, but hearing Tara's voice when she had called Jax's phone last night was still in the back of her mind like a little bug buzzing around and pissing her off.
She knew it shouldn't still bother her, but it did. After all she was there for him when Tara broke his heart all those years ago. Shay couldn't help but feel like Tara was sinking her sharp claws back into Jax and she absolutely hated that.
The Miller woman shook the thoughts of Jax and Tara from her head as she began folding Leela's freshly cleaned clothes. She enjoyed peaceful days like this, but she knew they would be ending soon because she needed to get back to work.
She had extended her maternity leave, not wanting to be away from Leela nor really trusting anyone besides Gemma to watch her daughter for such long hours at a time, but she knew she needed to go back.
Jax had told her she didn't have to that he would much sure Leela and her were taken care of, but Shay couldn't and wouldn't live off of Jax's money. It wouldn't feel right to her.
A knock on the door pulled Shay from her distracting thoughts with a small sigh she pulled herself up from the couch and made her way towards the door.
"Hey, Mills." Jax spoke with his always charming smile on his face once Shay opened the door.
Jax looked Shay up and down with his blue eyes. His smiling growing even wider as he took in her messy bun, sweatpants, and an old t-shirt of his on her body. He loved Shay like this.
"Oh hello, Jackson." Shay spoke with sarcasm as she crossed her arms across her chest, staring at her best friend and father of her daughter.
It has once again been far too many days since Jax came to see Leela, and while Shay understood with Abel still being in the hospital and club business going on, she couldn't understand him visiting Tara while he couldn't even visit his daughter.
"I thought you were becoming a figment of my imagination." The dark haired woman stated as she stepped aside to let the teller man inside.
"Sorry darlin'." Jax said while rubbing the back of his neck. "Been busy with club shit." He added with an apologetic smile.
Jax knew he wasn't doing his best at being a father to Leela. To be honest he was shit at it, but he loved that little girl with all of his heart even if he was shit at showing it.
"Is Tara considered club shit?" Shay asked while raising an eyebrow his way.
Jax ran a hand over his blonde hair. "Mills, don't break my balls here. Okay?"
"Whatever." Shay said with a sigh as she threw her hands up in exasperation. "Leela is sleeping but she should be up in an hour or so." She added while making her way back to the couch to begin folding clothes again.
"I'll just wait with you until she wakes up." Jax grinned as sat down next to Shay.
It was silent between the pair as Shay continued to fold clothes and Jax watched her every movement. His eyes watching as she chewed on her bottom lip as she concentrated on folding Leela's clothes perfectly. Everything in Jax's body wanted to lean over and kiss her, but he couldn't. To be honest she would probably slap him if he did.
"What are doing tonight? We can have dinner just the three of us." Jax suggested, breaking the silence.
Shay looked up from the pjs in her hands. Her blue eyes staring into Jax's. "I can't. I'm having dinner at my dad's with Natalie and Kozik." She explained as she noticed the sad look cross his face for a moment.
Jax nodded, a bit disappointed but he understood. Shay was close with her dad and even closer with her older sister and whenever Natalie got the chance to come to Charming that meant Shay would be spending as much time with her as she could.
"Is Benny boy going too?" Jax smirked a hint of jealousy in his tone.
Shay rolled her eyes at how immature Jax was being. He always acted like an ass when it came to Ben. "Not that it's any of your business, but no. He has to work."
In the back of Shay's mind she was actually glad Ben had to work late tonight. It wasn't like her dad or sister didn't like Ben, but it was always so awkward whenever he came to a dinner at her dad's. Ben didn't understand the club life and never wanted to and Shay didn't want him too either and conversation was always grew awkward due to this.
"I'm gonna go back to work soon." Shay announced before Jax could say anything smart about Ben's absence at dinner tonight.
"Are you sure? You know I'll take care of you and Leela." Jax assured her. He didn't want her to think she had to go back to work just because of money. He'd always take care of Shay and Leela.
"Yeah." Shay nodded. "It will be good for me." She added with a small smile.
"Okay darlin'." Jax nodded.
Leela's small cries suddenly came over the baby monitor. "That's all you daddy." Shay smirked at Jax, watching him quickly get up off the couch and head towards Leela's room before folding clothes once again.

CALEB MILLER'S HOME WAS FILLED WITH LAUGHTER AS HE SAT AT THE TABLE WITH HIS TWO DAUGHTER, HIS GRANDDAUGHTER, AND HOPEFULLY A FUTURE SON IN LAW
"So the dog bit his ass?" Natalie questioned through laughter as Shay told the story of Tig getting his ass bit by a dog all because of Juice's stupidity.
"Yes." Shay nodded as laughter left her lips.
"Jesus Christ." Kozik laughed. "I'd bit him too if I was a dog." The blonde biker added as he wrapped an arm around Natalie.
"I don't know if I would." Shay shook her head. "We all know where that ass has been." She shuddered as the table erupted into more laughter.
Shay loved nights like this. She loved spending time with her dad and Natalie. It had been the three of them since she could remember, though Natalie and Gemma mostly raised her not that she had any ill feelings towards her dad because of that. Caleb Miller did his best.
"I talked to your mother." Caleb announced once the laughter had died down.
Shay whipped her head so fast in her father's direction that she was sure she had gotten whiplash. She couldn't believe the words that had just come out of his mouth. He had just dropped a bomb on her and just sat there like it was okay.
"Why?" Natalie was the first to speak. Shay could hear the anger in her tone as Kozik pulled her closer to him.
"She wants to see you both." He spoke calmly. "She wants to see Leela." He added as he looked over at Shay.
"I'm not fucking doing this. I'm not having this fucking conversation." Shay shook her head as she scratched her forehead. "I'm leaving. Goodnight." Shay stood up quickly from the table, taking Leela out of the high chair.
"Shay," Caleb called out to his daughter.
"No." Shay spoke with anger and frustration in her voice. "I'm not talking about that woman so I better leave before I say something to you that I regret."
"We're gonna go too." Natalie spoke as she and Kozik stood up from the table. "This wasn't the time to bring this up." She added before they all made a quick exit.
"Can you fucking believe that?" Shay asked once they had stepped outside. "Did you know he talked to her?" She questioned.
Shay's tone wasn't accusatory. She just knew Natalie was more level headed with most things and maybe their dad had spoken to her about this already.
"No." Natalie shook her head. "I didn't even know she was still alive if I'm being honest." The older Miller woman said with a bitter laugh.
"She'll never meet Leela." Shay stated firmly. "I love you guys. I'm gonna head home." She added before pulling the couple into a hug.
"We love you too." Natalie said hugging her sister tightly before letting go.
Shay gave a wave to the couple before driving off. She needed to sleep and forget this night. Hopefully she'd be able to sleep tonight.
