- MONSTER MASH. bobby pickett.

WENDY HAD NEVER BEEN HAPPIER. She was in her costume on Halloween night, and she and her brother were walking down the street and to Allison's house. The plan was to stay there for a little bit, and then Allison would change into her costume and they would go out and have some fun.

Actually, she would have been a lot happier if her brother had not been telling her all of his cheesy Halloween pickup lines that he was planning to use on her best friend. "You look bewitching in that dress."

"You are so weird," she breathed out, shaking her head at the boy. They both paused when they were walking past a house and say Jay and Ernie holding a bag of candy over a little girl's head and she jumped in an attempt to grab it. Wendy immediately stormed over to them with Freddy on her tail.

"Hey! Will you guys stop terrorizing little kids? Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your life? Get out of here!" she yelled, snatching the candy back from them. They looked like they were about to take it back when Freddy raised his eyebrows at them, wanting to know if they really wanted to start that fight. They held their hands up in surrender and ran away, and the Addams girl turned back to the girl and crouched down in front of her. "What's your name?"

The girl grinned gratefully back at her and answered, "Dani."

"Well, here you go, Dani," she said to the girl with a kind smile, holding out the bag for her to take back. Dani happily took it back. The night was just getting better and better. Not only was it Halloween, but Wendy had saved a girl from the terrorists that were Jay and Ernie.

She slung it over her shoulder, ready to get back on with her trick-or-treating as she fixed her witch's hat, not unlike the one that Wendy had worn to school. "Thank you."

"You're very welcome," she responded with a giggle as she returned to her normal height and straightened out her dress. Her eyes widened when she saw none other than Max Dennison standing right behind the girl. She raised her eyebrows at him, having caught him yet again in an encounter with the two boys from the graveyard. "Ah, Mr. Skeptic. I see you've made friends already."

"Oh, no. I'm just taking my little sister around, and they were there," he quickly blurted out, causing Freddy to snort because of how stupid the boy was.

Wendy glared at her brother before turning back to the boy with a teasing smile, letting him know that he did not have to be that nervous. He wanted to make sure she knew that he was not friends with those idiots, esp\ecially since she was friends with Allison. "I was joking, Dennison."

"Oh, yeah," he said, and his face turned bright red as his sister giggled at him.

"Well, my brother and I have got a party to get to," she informed them, and she waved with a smile at the little girl who seemed really relieved that she had gotten her candy back. Wendy hoped that she had saved her night. "Bye, Dani."

The girl walked backward alongside her brother, which was something that she did a lot. Dani waved as well as she called to her, "Bye!"

"See you..." Max trailed off, realizing that even though that was the second time they had interacted in one day, he still did not know the girl's name. He felt kind of bad, and he panicked as he tried to scan his brain for any time that Allison or someone else might have mentioned what she was called.

Realizing his troubles, the brunette girl just chuckled, knowing that he was going to love her name after all of his hating on Halloween. She yelled to him, "Wednesday Addams!"

"You're joking," he gasped, shaking his head, sure that she was playing with him. He knew that she was a Halloween enthusiast, but there was no way that her parents had named her after a movie character.

"My family loves Halloween, and they had the perfect last name for it. My brother's named after Freddy Krueger," she explained, and they were getting further and further ap\art, which meant that she was basically yelling down the street. "Call me Wendy, though."

He chuckled, "Alright. Bye, Wendy."

"Bye Max."

"Aren't these your shoes? How did they get in here?" Dani asked, and Max looked down at her, confused until he saw his two shoes that Jay and Ernie had taken earlier. He grabbed them quickly and examined them, shocked that they were in there. "I think she's magic."

"ARE YOU A GHOST BECAUSE IT'S SCARY HOW GOOD YOU LOOK," FREDDY TOLD ALLISON. Wendy was honestly about to punch her brother for how cheesy that was, and she visibly cringed as soon as he said it. It was even worse than watching Max try to flirt with the girl.

"Thank you, Freddy. You look nice too." The blonde girl offered him a grateful smile before turning to her best friend. The Addams boy looked like he was about to pass out because Allison said that he looked nice. "I see you decided to play it nice this year, Wendy."

The brunette girl nodded before smiling widely with her teeth showing to reveal blood covering them as it poured out of her mouth and down her chin. "Yep." Allison giggled as she wiped the red liquid from her face and removed the capsule from her mouth that she had it in. She tried to clean up before the Watts girl's parents came over, but she was a little too late.

"Freddy, how wonderful to see you. Wendy, I see you're back to your usual antics," the woman mused, looking down at the girl with a bit of distaste. She liked Wendy, she really did. She just wished that she would take everything a bit more seriously.

"Of course, Mrs. Watts," the brunette replied, and she turned around as the adults left to find herself face-to-face with the same person that she had talked to less than an hour before. "Max Dennison, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were stalking me."

The boy's eyes widened, shocked to have seen the girl again, and he straightened up at the sight of the girl right beside her. "Wendy, Allison."

"Ohh. Allison, hmm?" Dani giggled out, and Wendy realized that Max must have told her about the blonde girl as well. He smacked her in the back, though, letting them know that he clearly did not want everyone in the party to know that.

She glanced between him and his sister standing next to the candy bowl, wondering why he was there if he hated Halloween so much. "I thought you weren't into Halloween."

"I'm not. I'm, I'm just taking my little sister Dani around," he told her, as if it was so uncool to actually like Halloween. He would have a better chance if he just gave in to the holiday and actually enjoyed it instead of pretending to be too cool for school. Maybe that was his costume.

Freddy leaned toward his sister and whispered into her ear as the Dennison boy and Watts girl continued to talk, Dani sometimes commenting every once in a while. "Why is he looking at her like that?"

"Jealous is not a pretty shade on you, bro," she chuckled out lowly so that no one else could hear. As much as she loved to watch her brother embarrass himself, she was not about to announce to the whole party that he was jealous.

He scoffed, rolling his eyes as he turned it back on her, remembering how she had acted earlier. "I'm not jealous, and it's not a pretty shade on you either."

"What are you talking about?" she asked, confused. She was definitely not jealous that Max was flirting with Allison, perhaps a bit weirded out, but definitely not jealous. Allison could date whoever she wanted.

She realized what he meant when his voice got really high-pitched. He repeated her words from earlier with a teasing smile as he mocked in a sing-song voice, "'Bye Max.'"

"Shut up, or I'll tell Allison about the Christmas party," Wendy threatened, recalling the time that Freddy had thrown an entire Christmas party on the very off chance that Allison would fly back from France just to kiss him under the mistletoe.

His eyes widened, and he sighed, knowing that he had lost that particular sibling battle. "Okay, fine. You win."

"Well, why don't we go to this old Sanderson house?" Max suggested, and the Addams reentered the conversation. Allison seemed a little hesitant, but he continued to try and convince her. "Well, come on, make a believer out of me."

"Okay, let me get changed. They'll never miss me. Wendy, do you need to borrow some clothes?" Allison asked her friend as she agreed and began to walk up the stairs. The girl had left half of her wardrobe at the girl's house anyway.

"Nope," she answered before grabbing the bottom of her dress and pulling down. The bottom part of the skirt came off, making it a lot shorter. She then yanked off the giant puffy sleeves that she had on, leaving her in a decorative tank top. She stood back up and threw the bundle of cloth to her friend to leave in her room. "I'm prepared."

Freddy gestured to himself, pointing out that he and Dani were the only ones left in their full costumes. "So now you guys are going to leave me looking stupid?"

"Yep," the two girls answered, and Allison left to go get changed.

"Max, I'm not going up there," Dani told her brother, and he crouched down in front of her so that she did not have to speak so loudly. He really did not need all of his personal business revealed to two people he had just met. "My friends at school told me all about that place. It's weird!"

He sighed, looking up at the girl with pl\eading eyes, begging her to go along with it and hopefully not tell their parents about what was happening. If they found out that he had taken her to an abandoned house with three other random teenagers, they probably would not be too happy. "Dani, this is the girl of my dreams."

"So? Take her to the movies like a normal person," she responded, and it made a lot of sense. However, this kid was desperate, and he really wanted to get this girl to like him.

Freddy looked like he was about to punch the boy for talking about Allison like she was his since he had been working on this for eleven years. How dare this kid just come in and think he owns the place? He didn't even like Halloween! "Dani! Look, just do this one thing for me, and I'll do anything you say. Please?"

"Next year we go trick-or-treating as Wendy and Peter Pan," she demanded. He paused, wondering if this was even worth it for all of that. She quickly added. "With tights, or it's no deal."

"Oh, I have got to see that," Wendy laughed.
