MAX OPENED THE DOOR OF HIS HOUSE TO LET HIS FRIENDS INSIDE. He frowned when he noticed the eerie silence that echoed loudly throughout the house. He furrowed his eyebrows as they stepped inside. He called, "Mom? Dad?" He shrugged when there was no answer. "Well, I guess they're still partying. Come on in."
They headed upstairs so that Dani could head to bed. The Sanderson sisters were dead, and they finally had some peace. Dani stroked Binx on the head as she lay in bed since they had basically adopted the cat. "You're my kitty now. You'll have milk and tuna fish every day, and you'll only hunt mice for fun."
"You're going to turn me into one of those fat, useless, contented house cats," Binx scoffed with the shake of his head and a relieved chuckle at the girl's antics.
"You betcha. You know, Binx, I'll always take care of you," she assured him, and it was something really sweet to watch. "My children will take care of you too. And then their children after that, and theirs after that, forever and ever...and ever."
Wendy chuckled, and it only took a moment for the younger girl to doze off along with the cat. The brunette looked over to the other side of the room and smiled slightly when she saw her best friend slumped against Freddy, his arm around her. The Addams girl was sitting with Max, and they seemed to be the only ones still awake. "I think it's safe to say that you have officially lost, my friend."
"Oh, well. I guess I'm stuck with you," he sighed, "What a nightmare." She shoved him lightly with her shoulder, and she hesitated a moment before placing her own head on his shoulder and closing her eyes. She was so exhausted from the long night, so it was not long before sleep overtook her.
Wendy stirred to the sound of Allison freaking out over the time. Her eyes opened slightly as the girl picked up the clock on Dani's bedside table to check it. "Oh, my God. It's 5:OO. My parents are gonna kill me. I should go."
"Wendy, you and I should probably go too. Mom and dad are gonna be home from their seance soon," Freddy informed his sister who was still half asleep. She wiped her face and realized that she was still leaning on Max's shoulder. She looked up to see him smiling down at her.
She looked away, but she could not help the smile that creeped onto her face at the interaction. She stood up and started gathering her things as he muttered low enough that only she could hear, "I wish you could stay."
"Poor Binx," Allison sighed, and they all turned to look at the cat that was sleeping next to Dani.
"Yeah. Poor Binx. We owe him a lot," Max pointed out. If it weren't for him, they probably would have been killed by the witches at that house. They would have been used for a spell and then the entire town would be next. "Look, could we find some kind of way to help him?"
The Watts girl's eyes widened in realization as she grabbed Winifred's spellbook and sat back down in her original spot next to Freddy. Max and Wendy walked over to them and peered over their shoulders so that they could see what she was doing. "The book. The witches used it to put the spell on him. Maybe there's a way in here to take it off."
"Mmm, I don't know. Binx told us not to open it," the brunette girl pointed out. She did not think the cat would be very happy when he found out that they had disobeyed him, especially after everything that he had done for them.
Freddy shrugged. "Well, the witches are dead. What harm could it do?"
"Said every dead person in every horror movie ever," his sister pointed out. Something along the lines of 'What harm could it do?' or 'What's the worst that could happen?' were always the last words before someone got brutally murdered. Finally, they agreed to open it.
"Oh, listen to this. Only a circle of salt can protect thy victims from thy power," Allison read, but she did not get far before the black cat sprung onto the book in her lap, closing it. "We were just trying to help you."
Binx shook his head aggressively. He would much rather be cursed forever than deal with one of those other awful curses as well. "Well, don't! Nothing good can come from this book. You got it?"
"Maybe we should go now," Max suggested, and he and Wendy went downstairs to look for salt while Allison and Freddy searched the house for weapons that they could possibly use, all just in case the sisters came back. "Mom? Dad? Still not home. That's weird. Must be having a great time."
"I don't know. Something's not right. I'd feel a lot safer walking home if we had some salt," the brunette girl told him, and they walked toward the pantry. He jumped up on the counter to search through the cabinets as she watched him from below.
Finally, he found some, and he dropped it down to the girl before taking the spot next to her. "Salt. Ahh! What's it say?"
"Uh, it says form a circle of salt to protect from zombies, witches, and old boyfriends," she joked, knowing that the salt container was not very likely to have instructions on use when it came to the supernatural.
Feeling flirty, Max smirked as he leaned in slightly. He raised his eyebrows at her and asked, "Yeah? And what about new boyfriends?"
"I guess we'll have to see." She grinned, and she closed her eyes when he started to lean in. Just as their lips were about to brush, the sound of glass breaking pulled them apart. They looked at each other with wide eyes before sprinting up the stairs. Allison and Freddy came out of a room at the same time, and they both rushed to where Dani was.
Once they got there, Allison pointed out, "Guys, the book is gone. I'm telling you, something's weird."
"Dani, wake up," Max told his sister, and he walked over to the bed where the lump that was Dani was lying under the covers.
Just as he touched the lump, it sat up quickly, and the covers fell off, revealing that it was most definitely not Dani. It was Sarah freaking Sanderon. "Trick or treat!"
"Looking for this?" Mary cackled, and they turned to see her and Winifred walking out of the closet. The redheaded woman had Dani in her arms, the girl's mouth covered while Mary had the book in her hands. "Or this?"
With a wave of her hand, Winifred threw both Wendy and Max into the drum set behind them when they took a step toward her, her sister, and his sister. Allison quickly jumped into action and grabbed the salt before spreading it around them. "Salt! Ha! What a clever little white witch. But it will not save thy friends. No. Come, sisters. The candle's magic is almost spent. Dawn approaches. Bye-bye."
"Max. Max. Ohh. Get up. Ohh. Are you okay? Ohh. Come on, get up," Wendy groaned after she heard screaming and a loud cracking noise. Freddy and Allison were bent over their friends and family, making sure that they were all right.
"Where's Dani?" Max asked, but his question was answered when he saw a huge hole in the top of his house. They ran over to it, and in the distance, they could see the witches flying on their brooms. One of them seemed to be singing, and her voice was drawing tons of the town's children toward them. Max started screaming, "Dani! Dani! Hey! Hey, you guys! Don't listen to her! Hey! Up here! Don't listen to her!"
Allison's face held a look of realization as she turned to the group. "Guys! Guys, I've figured it out. Winifred said... the candle's magic will soon be spent...and dawn approaches. The black flame candle only brought them back for this one Halloween night. And unless they can steal the lives of children, when the sun comes up they're dust."
"Yeah, but how can we make the sun come up?" Freddy asked, confused. They were neither God nor witches, and they were pretty sure even witches couldn't make the sun come up.
Max groaned, "They've got Dani. We need a miracle."
"Or a way to stall until the sun comes up," Wendy suggested, but the probability of that happening was probably pretty low since the sisters seemed very set on their spell happening as soon as possible.
"Are you a haunted house?" Freddy asked with a smirk in the Watts girl's direction. "Cause you have my heart pounding."
They all shrieked, "Freddy! Not now!"
