"HEY DON'T TOUCH ME!" The four in the kitchen stopped what they were doing as they heard the new boy yelling. The four cooks rushed out of Homestead to see what was happening. Without even thinking they all sprinted to the entrance of the Maze where Gally and the Greenie were arguing.
"Whoa, take it easy!"
"Just relax!"
Rosie arrived with the crowd of boys annoyed by the way Gally decided to take action. The new boy looked like a lost puppy who just wanted to be with their owner. "What the hell is wrong with you guys?!"
Rosie's eyes moved as she saw Newt on the other side walking towards him, his hand showing him to relax, "just calm down, alright?"
"No!" The terrified boy exclaimed, "why won't you tell me what's out there?"
Alby stood in front of the guys facing the boy, "just trying to protect you, man. For your own good."
"Everything will be fine, justβdon't go out there! Please!" Rosie yelled creating no solution as the boy shook his head not caring for her beg.
The boy kept shaking his head, "all right, you guys can't just keep me here!"
"I can't let you leave!" Alby raised his voice
"Why not?!"
Before anyone could answer to him, the wall did it for them. The boy turned around when he heard a loud rumble and realized the walls were moving. Everyone stayed quiet letting him take in the tall walls moving by themselves.
"Next time," Gally approached him, "I'm going to let you leave."
"Gally," Rosie raised her voice shooting him a glare gaining his attention as he threw his hands up in surrender as he had given up with the boy. She shook her head at him as all he did was roll his eyes and walk away. Gally deeply cared for the girl and her opinion mattered to him but because of his ego, he dismissed her paying no attention to her.
"Welcome to the Glade." Alby announced to him before turning around to walk away.
All of the boys started walking back to finish what they were doing, Newt still standing in the same spot but admiring the girl in the sun. "Why you looking at me?" Rosie asked as she walked towards him, he walked towards her, both meeting at the middle.
"'Cause you're pretty." The British boy spoke to the girl who rolled her eyes with her lips upturned making him smile back. The girl playfully shoving his shoulder but going back to what she wanted to tell him.
"Can you try to be more nicer to the boy?" Rosie bluntly asked glancing to the new boy who was heading back to the Gardens to lay on his hammock.
Newt nodded knowing he wasn't doing as much as he probably could considering how Gally was treating him. "Yeah, I'll talk to him during supper."
"Thank you, I just don't want him to feel alone, you know," Rosie mumbled as she knew how it felt, the feeling of loneliness even in the middle of a crowd. "Alright, I'll see you then. Fry's going to kill me!" Rosie stated dropping her hands to her sides before jogging to the kitchen stationed outside.
Before Rosie could get to the kitchen, she noticed the tall boy sitting on the bench lost in his thought. "I'll be back." She announced to the three boys in the kitchen.
"Rosie the foods not even halfway done!" Frypan yelled after her.
"I'll be right back! I won't take long!" Rosie stated before heading to the boy contemplating his thoughts.
"That's what you said last time when you went to your room with Newt!" Frypan exclaimed grabbing a rag and doing his best to aim at the girl, "get back here!" The rag barely reaching her as she turned to look at him and stuck her tongue out at him.
Rosie walked over to Gally who noticed her approaching him, "how you holdin' up?"
The girl raised her eyebrow sitting down to talk to him knowing he needed someone to talk to or someone to listen, "I think you should ask yourself that question. How are you doing, Gally?"
"Fine, why are you asking me that?" The boy asked with agitation in his voice.
Rosie shrugged her shoulders, "Because I care about you and you've been acting strange lately. You've been tense."
Gally rubbed his face with his hand, "something's off. I can feel it. I justβI don't know what it is."
"How long have you been feeling like that?" Rosie asked placing her elbows on the table and leaning her head on her hands.
"Since this morning," Gally responded being truthful and knowing that the girl wasn't going to disrespect his thoughts or opinions.
Rosie nodded, "you think it's the boy?"
"Maybe," Gally questioned unsure, "you haven't to have any of those weird dreams you randomly get about him in particular?"
The girl took a second to try and remember if his face was ever in her dreams. She's seen him in them before but decided to keep that information to herself. Rosie shook her head lying. "Don't think so, you think he's bad news?"
Gally shrugged his shoulders, "I don't really know. Hope he's not. I already got stuff on my plate, I don't have time to be babysitting him."
"You could of been a bit nicer though," Rosie expressed the thought, "he's just like all of us confused and scared."
Gally didn't say anything for a few seconds letting the silence between them become larger, "yeah, well he has to toughen up."
Rolling her eyes, Rosie spoke with assurance and confidence, "oh, come on Gally. My first day, you weren't such a shank. You were nice, where's that Gally?"
"Dead." The boy replied chuckling but stopped when he saw no reaction coming from Rosie. "Fine, I'll try to be nice to him."
A smile appeared on her standing up and moving towards him as she wrapped her arms from behind him giving him a hug. Rosie felt one of his hands hold onto her arms and she felt his energy shift into more of a sad one before pulling away.
"Thank you! We'll talk later! I need to get back to the kitchen before they burn the food, see ya!" She started to run but turned back to run to him. "Come on," her hands grabbed his and pulled him with her to the kitchen station.
Frypan and Ander glanced at each other noticing Rosie not letting go of Gally's hands even as they had arrived to their station. One of her hands had let go but the other was still holding onto his with their fingers intertwined. Rosie searched for a specific thing and grinned when she found it.
"Rosie, that's for later!" Ander informed the girl who didn't even seem to hear him.
Gally glanced over at Ander who did hear him and glanced back to Rosie who held a piece of bread in her hand. "Take a bite." Rosie lifted the piece of bread close to Gally's mouth.
"Rosie, I don't thinkβ"
Rosie cut him off as she motioned to the piece of bread, "eat, you fool. I know you're hungry." Gally did as he was told taking a bite of the bread she was holding up for him. "Better?"
"Better." Gally nodded and accepted the bread she handed him as he started to eat more. He pulled her closer before planting a soft kiss on the side of her temple, "thank you."
Flutters ran through her entire body as she nodded replying, "no problem." The pair looked at each other in silence for a few seconds before Rosie snapped out of it and pulled away from him. "Alrigh, get going because you have to finish your tasks and I do too. I'll see you at dinner."
"Yes, ma'am." He replied turning around and start to walk away. A frown was immediately placed on his lips as he held the piece of bread in his hand. The idea of her started showing up in his mind more often than usual. Something he did his best to avoid thinking of because he knew, he just knew he could never be able to be with her. Especially when her attention was always on Newt and never him.
Rosie twirled around with a dorky smile on her lips before dropping it when she saw the faces on the two cooks. Frypan had his arms crossed and Ander's hands were on his hips both were staring at her like parents. "What?" She asked innocently.
