ROSIE TOLD the boy what she dreamt about last night. She was currently sat next to Gally who was in the midst of planning out how he was going to set up the kitchen Frypan wanted outside of the Homestead while listening to her story. Things were getting crowded inside the small kitchen that was intended for only two cooks not four.
The builder scratched his head glancing to his best friend who worked at the slaughter house. "Well shucks, there is some resemblance between you two."
The girl glanced over to the long haired boy who had his hair tied up working on a goat. From her view, Rosie couldn't find any resemblance between her and the slicer. But from Gally's view, he took a notice of their hair type, the facial features, their similar hand gestures, the way they carried themselves. They had to be related.
"I don't see it."
Shrugging his shoulders the boy walked around where he visioned the tables were going o be located, "well, i bet ya can ask anyone and they'll say you two do look alike."
Rosie couldn't grasp the concept of having a sibling especially that they've been placed together in the Glade. Her memory was very cloudy from the dream but she could remember really well Vince yelling after her before she woke up.
"Okay, let's say that he actually is, right?" Gally nodded imagining where he would place the cabinets and where they could store food. "Shouldn't I tell Nick or Alby about this? What if my dreams are actually real? What if I'm actually getting my memory back?"
The builder stayed quiet, a sensation in his chest arose scaring him. "You should tell Nick. Make sure he and Alby at least know you're having some sort of visions or hallucinations."
The brunette nodded over-analyzing her dream, "if I dream about something else, I'll tell them. I don't think they'll care much if I think Vince is my brother. I don't really have any proof."
"Well you're never gonna have any," Gally replied, "where ya gonna get the proof? You can't. Ya' gotta trust your gut, little one, be right back."
The girl pouted her lips watching her friend walk inside knowing he was right, she couldn't physically gather any sort of proof. The leaders just had to believe her or not.
A voice not far from the bench caused Rosie to look behind her shoulder looking at who the voice belonged to, "oy! Olly! Olly! Come look at this! We got ourselves some wankers tryin' to gettin it on!"
Rolling her eyes, Rosie stood up on her feet noticing it was Brian who was more obnoxious than all of the other gladers combined. He was definitely a bully. He'd pick on anyone he had the chance on and make a laugh out of them. Being over a month in, Rosie had already gotten used to his annoying behavior she always tried to avoid.
Entering the homestead, Rosie heads towards the kitchen looking around to see if there was anything left to do. Her attention turns to outside the small window hearing familiar voices intriguing her in the conversation they were having. The girl lifted herself up over the counter to get a look at what she was hearing.
"He's right in front of us, Alby!" Nick spoke sitting next to Alby on the bench. The two leaders were currently sitting across from Newt on one of the tables.
"Newt's not some slinthead," Alby bickered with Nick as they tried to figure out how they were going to tell him the bad news. "Pretty sure he knows what's coming for him."
It was true. Newt knew exactly what they were here for. He couldn't even walk like he used to, less run like he used to. "Seems like I don't got the chops to be a runner no more, what's the plan then?"
Nick placed his elbows on the table resting his head on his hands, "you decide."
"You can become another in command if you want." Alby offered the status to his close friend, "you'll be working across the jobs helping out and making sure everyone's doing what they're suppose to be doing."
"Eavesdroppin' ain't nice to do, little thorn." Rosie jumped at the sudden voice behind her almost causing her to lose her balance on the counter where she could barely see anything.
"Gally!" Rosie exclaimed hitting the boy on his chest noticing the grin on his lips. "You shank!"
His eyes wondered over her turning outside the window to see what she was spying on. "You can't even see anything from here." With his height, the builder had a clear view of what Rosie had been trying to get. She on the other hand couldn't even see on top of the counter. A chuckle left his lips, "you want me to build you a stepping stool?"
A dramatic gasp left Rosie lips as she started hitting the boy's arm, "shut up gally!" Rosie crossed her arms thinking for a second what she could say to offend him, "not everyone can be a giraffe like you!"
"Here." Before Rosie knew it she was up in the air and had a clear view of what was going between the three boys.
"Woah." Rosie mumbled as Gally had lifted her up and was holding her in his arms to help her eavesdrop. Stuff like this made her feel like this life could be okay. Gally just made her feel happy and would go out of his way to put a smile on her face.
"Nick! Alby!" Clint yelled loudly getting everyone's attention in the glade. "Ander's been hurt!"
"What?" Rosie questioned as she had seen the three boys stand up and rush. Gally put Rosie down before moving out of the way letting her rush out the kitchen before him. Scanning the glade for a second, the girl heads towards the group of boys surrounded in a circle. Pushing through them, Rosie encounters a beat up Ander on the grass, blood flowing from his face and bruises forming on his body.
"What happened?" Nick shouted looking around for the gladers who were at the scene. They all remained quiet fearing the leader. "I said what happened!?" His voice boomed through the entire Glade scaring a lot of the boys including Rosie. "Medjacks, and you three help them take him to the medhut," Nick commanded pointing at three boys to help them pick the tall boy up, "now!"
"One of you slintheads better speak up or all of y'all ain't getting no food for the rest of the week." Alby demanded as the five boys carried Ander to the medhut.
A slight hesitation came from Brian as some boys had turned to him to explain the cause. "Look, I caught Ander sucking Justin off and I made a harmless joke. But I guess Justin didn't want us thinking that so an argument started between 'em two and before you know it they start hitting each other."
Nick turned around to see Justin sitting on the grass with his knees up wrapped up in a ball. "Fucking imbecile," Anger ran through the leader's blood as one of his three rules had been broken. "Take him to the slammer!" Nick announced pointing at two Baggers who rushed to pick up Justin. "Where's Minho!?"
Rosie stood in her spot trying to take in the incident that had occur. It took her a bit to process that her best friend was in the Med-but barely able to breath and the cause of it was the guy he loved.
Wondering off, the girl made sure no one saw her sneak towards the corner of the Glade where the slammer was on. Wind whistled through the air forming little goosebumps across Rosie's arms. The sound of her footsteps made the boy inside the hole stand up and open his mouth for forgiveness, "Nick! I'm sorry! It was a mistake! I didn't mean to hurt him!" Reaching towards the front, the only girl in the Glade crouched down meeting Justin at eye level who immediately changed his tone when he saw her. "Oh. It's you."
A smile formed on Rosie's lips confusing him as he tried to keep his tough act up, "you mind if I sit?"
"Actually I do-"
"Doesn't matter. I'm sitting." The brunette cut off the boy making herself comfortable on the grass. She let a few seconds pass by looking at her dirty hands from helping Gally with his project.
Justin couldn't seem to figure out why she wasn't projecting her anger out when he knew she was seething inside. "What do you want?"
Glancing up Rosie asked, "you ever wonder what he sees in a scum like you? Because I have no clue."
"If you've come here to just tell me-"
"You wanna know what I see?" Rosie asked ignoring his effort to cut her off. "A coward."
Justin gritted his teeth as anger fumed out of his system, "it ain't your business, Rosie! So stay out of it! Ander's a big boy! He knew what was coming for him!"
"No. The moment you laid a hand on him became my business." Rosie stated, "and I might be a girl but I'll make sure you don't wake up to see another day."
"Rosie!" The girl's head turned to see Nick walking towards the slammer realizing Rosie was talking to Justin without anyone's permission.
A chuckle came out of Justin's lips, "the one who's not going to see another day is the one laying unconscious in the Medhut."
Rosie's eyes went wide reaching towards the door handle trying to open it, "I'll fucking kill you!" Her hands couldn't unhook the chain but was able to grab a handful of Justin's shirt pulling him close to her with one hand while a knife in the other.
Several footsteps reached faster and before Rosie knew it, she was struggling to get out of the grip of the first-in-command. "What the klunk is going on!?" Alby yelled at the girl who tried to elbow Nick.
"Get off me!"
"You better put a leash on that bitch of yours Nick." Justin spoke in a calm manner that stopped Nick from holding onto Rosie.
"watch your mouth!" Nick yelled pointing at Justin furious that anyone disrespected the girl. "You're on thin ice slinthead and I'd start praying if I were you because nothing not even Minho is coming to save your ass this time."
"She started it!" Justin argued like a little boy placing the blame on Rosie.
"Rosie didn't injure anyone! You did!"
