Go down with me

π”Έπ•Š a new day arrived, welcoming its presence with a soft glow, Rain woke up with a smile and looked out her window, feeling a sense of anticipation. She climbed out of the warmth of her bed, the excitement from the previous night still lingering in her heart. After getting dressed and making her bed, she reached for a book on her shelf, writing a quick note on a piece of paper and tucking it inside the pages. Humming a light tune, she headed downstairs to get breakfast, unable to wipe the grin off her face.

Charlie, her father, entered the kitchen just as Rain poured herself a glass of juice. "Well, someone's up early. What did you do to my daughter?" he asked, eyeing her with playful suspicion.

Rain chuckled, responding with a twinkle in her eye, "I traded her for a version that actually enjoys mornings. The original is still sleeping in her room, so don't worry."

Charlie laughed, shaking his head. "If that's the case, maybe I should keep this one around."

Rain finished her breakfast just as Bella stumbled into the kitchen, still half-asleep. Before Bella could fully register what was happening, Rain darted upstairs to brush her teeth, then rushed back down to give her father a quick hug. "See you later, Dad!" she exclaimed, her voice full of cheer.

Charlie returned her hug, smiling warmly. "Have a good one, kiddo."

Rain waved goodbye and slipped out the door before Bella could even ask if she was going to see Jacob. With the sun shining and a spring in her step, Rain felt like the day was full of promise, ready to unfold in ways that filled her with joy.

Rain slid into the driver’s seat of her Jeep, the leather warm beneath her as she adjusted the mirrors and took a deep breath. The Jeep was a gift from Rosalie, and every time she gripped the steering wheel, it reminded her of Rosalie's sharp wit and unspoken care. The engine purred to life with a satisfying rumble, and Rain felt a rush of anticipation as she pulled out of the driveway, heading towards Emily’s place to meet with Sam.

The early morning sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows across the winding road. The scent of pine and fresh earth filled the air, and Rain let out a contented sigh as the wind played with her hair through the open window. The drive was tranquil, the kind of peaceful solitude she enjoyed before diving into the day’s events.

As she neared Emily's house, Rain spotted Sam leaning casually against the porch railing, his arms crossed as if he’d been waiting for her. She pulled the Jeep to a smooth stop and hopped out, her boots crunching on the gravel as she approached him with a wave.

"Morning, Sam!" Rain called out, her voice bright with cheer. "Where’s Erian? Is he off doing patrols?"

Sam’s lips curved into a small, knowing smile. "Not right now. He’s at work, being a lumberjack. He’s over at the mill near the riverβ€”just follow the road past the old bridge, and you’ll find him there."

Rain couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face, a soft warmth settling in her chest. "I’m glad he’s staying busy. Thanks for letting me know."

Before Sam could respond, the front door burst open, and Emily appeared, a whirlwind of energy. "Rain!" Emily exclaimed, rushing over with open arms. Without missing a beat, she wrapped Rain in a tight, warm hug that felt like a blanket of comfort.

Rain laughed, returning the hug just as enthusiastically. "It’s so good to see you, Emily. You’ve got that special knack for making a person feel right at home."

Emily pulled back slightly, her hands still on Rain’s shoulders as she beamed at her. "And you’ve got a knack for brightening up a place just by walking in."

They shared a warm smile before Rain glanced back at her Jeep, her mind already spinning with the tasks ahead. "I wish I could stay longer, but I’ve got a few things to take care of. You know how it is."

Emily nodded, understanding in her eyes. "Of course. But don’t be a stranger, okay? And make sure to give Erian a hug from me when you see him."

Rain chuckled as she stepped back towards her Jeep. "You got it, Emily."

Climbing back into the Jeep, Rain started the engine, the familiar roar filling her ears as she waved one last time before driving off. The road stretched out before her, full of possibilities, and she felt a renewed sense of purpose as she navigated the curves with ease. The day was just beginning, and with the warmth of Emily’s hug still lingering, Rain knew it was going to be a good one.

Erian, who wore plaid shirt, featuring a mix of warm tones like orange, red, and blue. The shirt is comfortably worn, with the sleeves rolled up, giving it a laid-back look and light blue jeans that are well-worn, and a pair of tan work boots, was in the thick of the forest, his muscles straining as he swung the axe with practiced precision, the rhythmic sound of wood splitting echoing through the trees. The air was thick with the scent of pine and fresh earth, mingling with the sweat on his brow as he and his fellow lumberjacks worked side by side. The forest was alive with the hum of their labor, the heavy thud of logs hitting the ground, and the occasional banter between the men.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Erian took a moment to catch his breath, leaning on the handle of his axe. The day was progressing like any other, but then, something in the air shifted. A familiar scent, one that made his heart skip a beat, drifted towards him. It was the scent of the oceanβ€”salty, fresh, and full of memories. It was Rain.

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he straightened up, his senses honing in on the direction the scent was coming from. He turned, his eyes scanning the edge of the clearing, and there she was. Rain, walking toward him with that easy grace that always captivated him.

His heart swelled with warmth as he watched her approach, her presence like a cool breeze on a hot day. The work around him seemed to fade into the background, the noise of axes and falling trees dimming as she drew nearer.

"Rain," Erian murmured, more to himself than anyone else, his smile broadening as he set his axe down and took a few steps to meet her. "You’re a sight for sore eyes," he called out, his voice filled with genuine happiness.

As she closed the distance between them, Erian could feel the fatigue from the day’s work melting away, replaced by the simple joy of seeing her.

Rain approached Erian with a playful grin, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she looked him up and down. "Well, look at you all dressed up!" she teased, her voice dripping with mock astonishment as she gestured to his shirt and long pants. "I didn’t know wolves had a formal dress code!"

Erian chuckled, his laughter rumbling deep in his chest as he set the axe down and peeled off his work gloves. "Only on special occasions," he quipped back, raising an eyebrow as he wiped his hands on his jeans. "But don’t get too used to it. I’m usually more of a β€˜shirt optional’ kind of guy."

Rain laughed, the sound light and musical, before her expression softened slightly. "I hope I’m not disturbing you. I just… wanted to stop by." Her tone carried a hint of uncertainty, though her eyes still held that familiar spark.

Erian’s smile was warm and reassuring as he stepped closer. "You’re not disturbing me at all," he assured her. "Don’t be sorry, Rain. I’m glad you came." His gaze softened as he took in her presence, feeling the stress of the day ease away.

Rain reached into her bag and pulled out a well-worn book, handing it to him with a small, shy smile. "I brought you something," she said, her voice tinged with a mix of excitement and nervousness. "It’s The Shining by Stephen King. Thought you might enjoy it."

Erian’s eyes lit up as he took the book from her, flipping through the pages with a touch of reverence. "The Shining, huh? I’ve heard about this one. Thanks, Rain." His voice was sincere, and he looked at her with genuine gratitude. "I’ll definitely give it a read."

They talked for a bit more, the conversation flowing easily between them. Rain asked him about his day, and Erian found himself sharing little details about the work, the camaraderie with his fellow lumberjacks, and the satisfaction he felt from a hard day’s labor.

"And here I thought all you did was swing an axe around like a caveman," Rain teased, her eyes twinkling.

Erian grinned, leaning slightly closer. "Oh, I do plenty of that too. But there’s a certain finesse to it. You’d be surprised how much technique goes into looking this rugged."

Rain giggled, rolling her eyes playfully. "Sure, I’ll take your word for it. Just don’t go breaking too many hearts with all that finesse." Erian chuckled before Rain spoke,β€œSo, do you guys have a secret lumberjack handshake?” Rain teased, her eyes twinkling. β€œOr is it more like a secret nod, like, β€˜Hey, we chop wood, and we know it’?”

Erian grinned, playing along. β€œOh, it’s a full-on dance routine, actually. You should see us when the chainsaws come out. It’s a sight to behold.”

Rain burst out laughing, the sound contagious, making Erian laugh along with her. There was a comfort in their banter, a familiarity that made the moments together feel like home.

As the minutes passed, Rain’s phone buzzed with a message. She glanced at the screen, seeing Bella’s name flash across it. "Looks like I’ve got to go," she said with a hint of regret, slipping her phone back into her pocket. "Bella needs me for something."

Before Erian could respond, Rain stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him in a quick, unexpected hug. Erian stiffened in surprise, caught off guard by the sudden contact, but then his arms slowly came up to return the embrace. The warmth of her body against his was a welcome surprise, and he found himself smiling into her hair.

When she pulled back, her cheeks were slightly flushed, and she gave him a quick wave before heading back to her car. Erian watched her go, a soft smile lingering on his lips. He glanced down at the book she’d given him and noticed something peeking out from between the pages.

Carefully, he opened the book and pulled out a small note. Scrawled in Rain’s handwriting were her phone number and email, along with a little smiley face. Erian’s smile grew wider, a mix of amusement and affection warming his chest.

One of his workmates wandered over, eyeing the book and the note with curious interest. "Who was that girl?" the man asked, nudging Erian with his elbow.

Erian closed the book gently, tucking the note back inside as he looked out in the direction Rain had driven off. "Someone special to me," he replied, his voice soft but sure, as a contented smile lingered on his face.
