𝕋ℍ𝔼 night was still, the cool air whispering through the trees surrounding the Swan house. On the patio, under the dim glow of the porch light, Edward and Bella stood close, their voices hushed as they spoke about the day's events. The tension between them had finally begun to ease, and as Edward gently cupped Bella's face, tilting her chin upward, they were just about to share a kissβ€” A rusted iron rod came flying through the air, whistling past them before it embedded itself into the wall with a sickening crunch, just an inch from Bella's head. She gasped, stumbling backward in shock, her breath catching in her throat. Edward immediately moved in front of her, his body tense, his golden eyes scanning the darkness with sharp precision.

Then, she stepped into the porch light.

Rain.

Her presence was like a thunderstorm ready to break. Her ocean-coloured eyes burned with fury, and her lips curled in a snarl that sent an icy chill through Bella's spine. Her stance was predatory, her hands clenched at her sides as she took slow, deliberate steps forward.

"Oops," Rain snarled through gritted teeth, her tone dripping with venom. "I missed."

Bella swallowed hard, her hands gripping the fabric of Edward's shirt as she peered at Rain with wide, terrified eyes.

Edward stiffened, his jaw locking as he readied himself for a fight. "Rainβ€”"

Before he could speak further, she lunged.

In a blur of speed, Edward rushed forward, intercepting her mid-step. He shoved her aside with enough force to send her skidding across the ground, but Rain merely twisted her body and landed on her feet, the way a predator regains balance with ease. Edward positioned himself defensively between Rain and Bella, his voice firm. "I get that you're angry, but I won't let you hurt Bella."

For a moment, there was silence.

Then Rain chuckled.

It started as a soft, almost amused sound, but quickly grew into a full, hollow laugh. She tipped her head back slightly, her shoulders shaking before her laughter died just as quickly as it came. She lowered her gaze, locking onto Edward with something terrifyingly unhinged in her expression. "Angry?" she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper.

Before Edward could react, she vanished.

A blur of movementβ€”then, Rain materialized in front of him, her leg already swinging. The impact of her kick sent Edward soaring through the air, crashing through the trees like a ragdoll. Wood splintered and snapped as his body collided with a thick trunk, the force sending vibrations through the ground.

Bella screamed.

Rain's eyes flicked toward her, glowing like the abyssal depths of the ocean.

"You think you're immortal," she muttered, taking slow steps toward where Edward had fallen, her voice carrying the weight of an oncoming storm. "But you're not." The wind howled around them, as if responding to the wrath coursing through Rain's veins. She stepped over broken branches and torn earth, her expression unreadable but her intentions clear.Β  "You can still be killed." The air was silent except for the shallow rise and fall of Edward's chest as he lay on the ground, struggling to recover from Rain's devastating blow. His golden eyes flickered open just in time to see her step over him like he was nothing more than a fallen obstacle in her path.

Rain's gaze lifted to Bella, who stood frozen in terror, her breath coming out in sharp, shallow gasps.

"But I'm not here for you," Rain muttered, her voice a chilling whisper.

Bella's heart pounded violently in her chest before instinct took overβ€”she turned on her heel and bolted inside the house.

Behind her, Rain chuckled, a low, eerie sound that slithered down Bella's spine.

Within seconds, Rain was at the door, her silhouette casting an ominous shadow into the house. "Bella," she called out in a sing-song voice, stepping further inside. "Come on, big sis. Come out." The house was deathly quiet, save for the sound of Rain's slow, deliberate footsteps against the wooden floor. The dim lighting did nothing to soften her menacing presence. The air felt suffocating, as if the walls themselves were caving in under the weight of her fury. She reached the staircase, her fingers trailing along the banister as she ascended, each step measured, controlled.

"Isabella," she sang sweetly, the name rolling off her tongue like a haunting melody.

Bella was in her room, back pressed against the wall, hands shaking as she gripped a splintered piece of wood. Her breaths were erratic, her body tremblingβ€”but as the door creaked open, she steeled herself. With a desperate cry, she swung but the attack never landed. Rain caught the wood mid-air with ease, her fingers wrapping around it like a vice. A slow, predatory smile spread across her lips as she tilted her head slightly.

"Found you."

With little effort, she snapped the wood in half, the sharp crack of splintering timber echoing through the room. Bella barely had a second to react before Rain's hand shot out, grasping her wrist in an iron grip. A sickening crack filled the space as Rain squeezed, breaking Bella's wrist as easily as snapping a twig. Bella let out a piercing scream, collapsing to her knees as she cradled her limp, mangled arm against her chest, tears spilling down her face. Rain flung her across the room like she weighed nothing. Bella's body collided with the wall, knocking down picture frames and shelves as she crumpled to the floor in a heap. She gasped in pain, trying to crawl away, her broken wrist throbbing with searing agony.

"Please, Rain," Bella sobbed, her voice small, desperate. "Stop."

Rain's steps were slow, her eyes glowing with an ethereal, terrifying light. Her anger radiated off her like a force of nature, drowning the room in an oppressive weight.

"Why?" Rain sneered, her voice void of warmth. "So, you could pull the same stupid stunt again?" Bella whimpered, pressing herself further into the corner, trying to become small, invisible. "I don't think so." Rain crouched in front of her, her movements eerily graceful, almost predatory. The contrast between her stunning beauty and the sheer malice in her expression made her even more terrifying. She tilted her head, watching as Bella trembled beneath her.

"Tell me, Bella," Rain whispered, her voice like ice water against bare skin. "How does it feel?"

Bella swallowed, unable to speak past the lump in her throat.

"How does it feel," Rain continued, her voice soft yet laced with venom, "to feel helpless? To have no one here to protect you?"

Bella squeezed her eyes shut, shaking her head, her entire body trembling. "How does it feel," Rain leaned in closer, her breath ghosting against Bella's cheek, "to have someone's blood on your hands?" Bella's breath hitched as sobs wracked her body.

Rain's expression darkened, memories flashing behind her furious eyes.

"I watched my family die," she seethed, her voice barely above a whisper. "I listened to their screams, their agony, as they were slaughtered like animals. And now, I find out that my own sister sent hunters after my blood."

She lifted her fist and drove it into the wall beside Bella's head, piercing straight through the wood. The impact sent fractures splintering outward like spiderwebs.

Bella let out a choked sob, her eyes wide with sheer terror as she felt the breeze from the impact against her skin.

Rain didn't move for a moment, simply breathing heavily, her body trembling with barely restrained fury. Then, ever so slowly, she withdrew her hand from the wall, her knuckles scraped raw. Bella's tear-streaked face lifted slightly, chest heaving, hopingβ€”prayingβ€”that maybe, just maybe, it was over. Rain's breath was ragged, uneven. Her body trembled, but not from exhaustionβ€”from the sheer force of the fury that still roared inside her like an untamed hurricane. The siren blood in her veins burned, demanding more, demanding justice, demanding retribution.

She could still hear Donna's screams in her mind.

Still see the way her sister crumpled to the ground, blood staining her fingers as Rain held herβ€”helpless, useless. She clenched her fists, feeling her nails dig into her palms deep enough to draw blood. Rain took a slow step back, her head tilting as she watched Bella shake violently, clutching her broken wrist. The pathetic, whimpering sound that escaped her lips did nothing to cool Rain's rage. "You don't get to cry," Rain whispered, her voice void of warmth. Bella lifted her head, eyes wide with terror, mouth parting as if to plead again. "You don't get to act like the victim, not after what you've done." Her voice was so quiet, so softβ€”it was almost worse than her screams. Rain's chest ached, but not from sadness. No, it was something far worse. A broken kind of rage. A grief so heavy it drowned her in its depths. She had killed for her sister. She had drowned men in their own blood.

Her hands twitched at her sides, as if itching to strike, to rip, to take back all that had been stolen from her. "You sent them," Rain murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "You sent those men after us."

Bella sobbed. "Iβ€”I didn't knowβ€”"

"LIAR!"

Bella flinched violently as Rain's voice cracked through the air like a whip. "You knew exactly what you were doing," Rain seethed. "You knew what they would do to us." Bella shook her head frantically, pressing herself further against the wall as if she could disappear into it.

"Iβ€”I thought they would justβ€”"

"Just what?" Rain snapped, her lip curling in disgust. "Capture us? Parade us around like some sideshow freaks? Sell us? Torture us?"

Bella sobbed harder, shaking her head over and over again, but Rain had no more patience left for her tears. "You don't get to pretend you didn't know, Bella," she spat. "You don't get to sit there and cry when it was your decision that put a bullet in my sister's stomach!" The entire house felt like it was suffocating under Rain's presence. The air was thick, dense, as if the weight of the ocean had followed her onto land. The walls groaned, the windows trembled in their frames.

Bella trembled as she watched Rain, her breath coming in uneven gasps. The siren stood before her, gaze sharp, unreadableβ€”dangerous. But then, something shifted. Rain's eyes, still burning with fury, flickered with something else. A memory. A ghost.

Charlie.

For a fleeting moment, the storm in Rain's expression dimmed, replaced by something raw, something almost fragile. She exhaled sharply, as if forcing herself to swallow the rage still thrumming inside her veins. Without a word, she stepped closer. Bella flinched, expecting another strikeβ€”another sharp, venomous word. But instead, Rain reached for her wrist with surprising gentleness. Bella barely had time to process the change before Rain wrapped a strip of cloth around the broken limb, tying it with precision, her movements careful but firm. "If you ever, ever pull a stunt like that again," Rain murmured, her voice like the calm before a storm, "if you ever put the people I love in danger again... I will kill you before any vampire could."

Bella's breath hitched.

Rain's gaze flickered up, locking onto hers with terrifying certainty.

"And it wouldn't be pleasant." The room felt colder, suffocating under the weight of those words. There was no exaggeration in Rain's tone, no empty threat. Just fact. A promise carved into stone. Bella swallowed hard, feeling the true depth of her mistake settle into her bones. Rain stood, turning away, ready to disappear into the night. But thenβ€”

"Rain, Iβ€”"

The words barely left Bella's lips before Rain cut her off, her tone ice-cold. "I'm not doing this for you." She didn't turn around, didn't spare Bella another glance. "I'm doing this for Charlie. My father." And with that, she was gone. The only thing left behind was an overwhelming sense of fearβ€”one that nestled deep inside Bella's chest as she finally realized what Rain truly was. And of what she was capable.
