Chapter 8
A week had passed since the encounter with the Hulk, and Y/N was slowly settling into her new life—a life that was surprisingly becoming more comfortable than she ever anticipated. School was going well; she was keeping up with her grades, and her classmates were starting to recognize her as more than just the "new girl." It helped that she had become close to a small circle of friends, including Peter, of course, and her team—Luke Cage, Danny Rand, Sam Alexander, and even a few other SHIELD agents. They had quickly warmed up to her, and even Venom, surprisingly, had grown more comfortable with them.
Venom, who had once been nothing more than an alien parasite she had been forced to live with, had become a weird but loyal companion. He often communicated with her in her mind, sharing bits of information about her teammates that she hadn't known before—things like Sam's deep-seated fear of failure, or how Luke's tough exterior masked a heart that cared deeply for the people he protected. Even Danny had a soft spot for animals, though he wouldn't admit it. And Peter... well, Peter's mind was a constant whirlwind of thoughts, most of them self-deprecating and unsure, though Venom could sense a deep well of potential in him.
She often found herself walking through the hallways of school, casually listening to the strange insights that Venom shared with her, sometimes even teasing her about the way her team acted when they weren't around. But today, things felt... different.
The weight of her connection to Venom was heavier than usual, as if something big was about to happen. She didn't know what, but there was an undeniable energy in the air that made her anxious.
After school, she was sitting on the rooftop of an old building near her apartment, legs hanging over the edge, eyes on the horizon. Peter had joined her, his suit tucked away and his usual easygoing demeanor firmly in place.
"Hey," Peter said, sitting down beside her. "You good? You look... a little off today."
Y/N sighed, resting her elbows on her knees. "Just... one of those days, I guess. Something feels weird. Can't put my finger on it."
Venom hummed softly in her mind. You're right to feel that way, Y/N. Something's coming. We'll need to be ready.
Peter glanced over at her, a slight frown tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Anything I can do to help? You know, with whatever's coming?"
Y/N shook her head, her gaze still fixed on the horizon. "I think it's something I'll have to face on my own... but, thanks for asking."
Peter nudged her lightly, a playful smile crossing his face. "You know, you've got a pretty strong sense of independence. I've seen it with your whole 'Wraith' persona too. But, seriously, we're a team. You don't have to do everything alone, not anymore."
Y/N didn't look at him but could feel the sincerity in his words, and despite her usual resistance, she felt a small warmth in her chest. "I know. It's just... sometimes it feels like the only person I can really trust is myself. And, you know, him." She chuckled, a dark amusement in her voice.
Venom rumbled, You do trust us, Y/N. We've been through a lot together. I'm here.
Peter's brow furrowed slightly, but he didn't press further. Instead, he said, "Well, whenever you're ready to trust, I'm here. We all are."
Y/N glanced at him, a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "Thanks, Spider-boy. I appreciate it."
The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of quiet conversation, but as evening drew near, the strange feeling in Y/N's gut intensified. Venom was quiet for once, but his presence was heavier than usual. Her connection to him had deepened over the past week, and though it felt like she was becoming more attuned to his thoughts and emotions, it also meant she felt the tension in him more sharply.
She stood up, looking over the city one last time before she decided to head back home. "Something's coming," she said softly to herself, more to Venom than to Peter.
You're right. We'll be ready, Venom responded, his voice deeper than before.
Peter stood up beside her, a determined glint in his eye. "Well, whatever it is, we'll face it together, right?"
Y/N looked at him, a faint smirk appearing on her lips. "You're not as bad as you think, Peter Parker."
He grinned, his usual charm shining through. "I've got my moments."
As they headed down from the rooftop, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the calm before the storm. But for the first time in a while, she didn't feel as alone in facing it. With Peter and her team by her side—and Venom, of course—she felt ready for whatever came next.
But whatever was coming, she knew it wasn't going to be easy. And it would take more than just her strength to handle it. The world of heroes and villains was about to collide once more, and this time, she wouldn't be on the sidelines. She was Wraith, and this time, she was ready to face the fight head-on.
SCENEBREAK
Wraith and Spider-Man were out on patrol when the strange sound of a horn caught their attention. They looked down to see a man by a hotdog cart waving them over. His smile was wide, almost too wide, and his eyes sparkled with something they couldn't quite place. He held out a hotdog toward them.
"Wraith, Spider-Man! Over here!" the man called in an almost sing-song tone.
Spider-Man shot a quick glance at Y/N, who shrugged in a playful manner before swinging down to land beside the cart. As soon as their feet touched the ground, the man handed them the hotdog, the smell of cooked meat drifting in the air. "Take one, as a sign of my appreciation for all your hard work," he said with a grin that felt a little too perfect.
But before Spider-Man could even reach out to take the hotdog, a blaring alarm pierced the air, and everything around them seemed to slow for a moment. The hair on the back of Y/N's neck stood on end. Venom growled low in her mind, This feels off.
Spider-Man, not sensing the threat immediately, reached for the hotdog anyway. "What's the deal with the alarm?" he asked, distracted by the hotdog.
But Y/N's eyes narrowed, suddenly aware of who was standing before them. The man's grin was too smooth, too theatrical. And she felt it—something ancient, something mischievous. Her breath caught in her throat as realization hit her like a ton of bricks.
The man wasn't just some hotdog vendor. He was Loki, the Prince of Mischief, and she'd read plenty about him in her studies.
Wraith tensed, preparing herself to act. Loki... she thought, her mind racing. Of course, he'd have some trick up his sleeve.
"How does that hotdog taste, Spider-Man?" Loki asked, his voice dripping with amusement. He chuckled at the look on Spider-Man's face, who had taken a tentative bite only to gag.
"Eww, did you spit on it?" Spider-Man managed to cough out, making a face of disgust. His usual humor was quickly dissipating as he caught the underlying danger in the air.
Loki laughed, a sound that sent chills down Y/N's spine. "What? No! I'm not that cruel. But think of this as a little payback for last time, hmm?" His eyes glinted mischievously as he leaned in closer, clearly enjoying himself.
The atmosphere around them seemed to shift, and Y/N could feel the temperature drop. Her senses were on high alert, and she could feel Venom stirring beneath the surface, ready to take control if necessary.
Just then, Spider-Man turned back to her, only to notice her stance had changed, her body coiled like a spring. Her eyes were fixed on the Asgardian god with intensity.
Venom let out a deep, rumbling growl, He's no joke, Y/N. Watch him closely.
Spider-Man, still trying to recover from his gagging, finally seemed to catch on. "Wait a minute, this isn't right," he muttered. "What are you up to, Loki?"
Loki's smile widened, clearly enjoying Spider-Man's confusion. "Oh, it's nothing too serious," he said with mock sincerity. "Just a little game... a small revenge for that little stunt you pulled the last time we met."
Before either Spider-Man or Y/N could respond, Loki's smile faded into a smirk as he turned his attention back to Wraith, stepping closer to her. "And what do we have here? A new face," he said, his voice smooth as velvet, but with an edge that didn't sit well with her. "How... fascinating."
Wraith stepped back, placing a protective hand on her side where Venom's tendrils were beginning to snake around her, manifesting just beneath the surface. She was ready for whatever Loki threw at them.
Loki cocked his head slightly, his gaze lingering on her. "I must admit, I do enjoy meeting new... interesting people. And you, my dear, are quite the intriguing specimen."
Venom hissed in Wraith's mind, If he gets any closer, I will tear him apart.
"Stay cool," Y/N murmured, not wanting to draw too much attention to her shifting stance.
Spider-Man, still recovering from his shock, clenched his fists. "Uh, Loki, you do realize it's us you're messing with, right? Not your usual group of fools."
Loki's lips twitched, and he threw his hands up in mock surrender. "Ah, but you misunderstand, Spider-Man. I'm not here to fight... at least, not just yet." His eyes glinted with mischief. "But I do have a little something for you both."
The ground beneath their feet seemed to rumble slightly, and the air turned cold, the tension thickening. Loki's form flickered for a moment, as if he was debating on whether to escalate things further. "Consider this... a warning."
Without another word, Loki snapped his fingers, vanishing into thin air in a flash of green light. The hotdog cart, along with the area around them, was left untouched, the only sign of his presence being the lingering chill in the air.
Y/N took a deep breath, her body still on high alert. "I don't trust him," she muttered, the venomous presence of Loki still heavy in the air.
Spider-Man shook his head, still a little shaken from the encounter. "What the heck was that? And what did he mean by 'payback'?"
"Whatever it was," Y/N replied, her eyes narrowing, "he's up to something. And I don't think we've seen the last of him."
Venom's voice was a low growl, This isn't over. Not by a long shot.
Spider-Man glanced at her, then at the empty space where Loki had just been standing. "Looks like we've got a new mystery on our hands. Great."
Y/N smirked, feeling the familiar rush of adrenaline. "Just another day in the life of being a hero, right?"
SCENEBREAK'
The atmosphere in the lab shifted instantly. Dr. Connors, who had been scanning Spider-Man with his strange scanner, paused, looking at the readings with furrowed brows. "I... I didn't know how to fix this," he muttered, examining the device. "It just... seems to have stuck."
Spider-Man, still in the midst of his transformation, winced, staring down at his still-changing form. "Great. Just what I needed today... turning into Spider-Pig." His voice was filled with frustration.
"I can't stay like this, right?" Spider-Man asked, raising an eyebrow, clearly not liking the idea of being stuck in his current state.
Dr. Connors shrugged helplessly. "Who knows how long the chemicals are going to be on you, Spider-Man. We can only hope this is temporary."
Before Spider-Man could respond, the shrill sound of a horn blared in the distance, followed by thick black smoke filling the air. Both Spider-Man and Y/N tensed, and it was clear something big was going down.
Y/N's eyes sharpened as Venom's presence flared up, the symbiote taking over momentarily. "Hunters," Venom hissed, his tongue flicking out from Y/N's mouth, as he turned to Spider-Man. "Run."
"Wait, what—?" Spider-Man started to ask, but his words were cut off when the sound of the Helicarrier crashing came booming through the air. The shockwaves rattled the streets of Manhattan. Spider-Man, Y/N, and Dr. Connors looked up, eyes widening at the sight of the Helicarrier being torn apart in the sky.
Suddenly, the air grew cold, and a dangerous presence made itself known. From the wreckage of the falling ship, a figure descended, wielding a massive axe. A cruel smirk played on her lips as she landed, the force of her landing shaking the ground beneath them.
"Ah, the boar is finally found," the woman said, her voice dripping with malice. "Finally, the hunt has begun."
Behind her, several hooded figures emerged from the shadows. They were heavily armed, with bows drawn and arrows aimed, their intent unmistakable.
"Give us the boar's head," she demanded, her eyes locking on Spider-Man, who now stood in a defensive stance, trying to figure out what was going on.
Y/N blinked, her pulse quickening as she recognized the situation. The woman in front of them looked familiar—too familiar. The hunters. They were part of something much bigger, and from the way they spoke, they were after Spider-Man. And Y/N had a sinking feeling that they weren't just after Spider-Man... but something else.
The woman—who looked disturbingly calm, almost too pleased with the situation—finally looked at Y/N, locking eyes with her. "And you," she said with an amused smirk, "I don't know what you are. But I'm certain you'll make a fine prize."
Y/N's hand instinctively went to her side, where Venom was now fully in control. "Not today," she muttered, baring her teeth.
Spider-Man looked at Y/N in confusion, but she just gave him a sharp nod. "Get ready, Spidey. This isn't just a simple fight."
Venom's voice rumbled through Y/N's thoughts. They're after us. But they don't know what they're dealing with.
The woman holding the axe stepped forward, raising her weapon. "You'll both be dead by the end of this, one way or another."
And just like that, the battle began.
