Chapter One: The Boss and The Man

The sound of a pen scratching at paper was the only sound audible in the dimly-lit room. The Boss sat at his desk, deep in concentration as he formed words on the blank sheet before him. Silence was always needed in order for him to focus on a task before him, and he definitely couldn't focus with The Man beside him. He was writing for The Man, a series of letters, thoughts, and emotions that he would never see. It was good for him to get his feelings sorted, even if this was the case.

He had been busy with his many projects and events, one of which he was rather stressed about. One of his friends had called a week ago to notify him of some strange events happening at his business, and hadn't called back since. The Boss hoped that all was well; that friend was crucial to his plans.

As he continued to pour his feelings onto the parchment before him, the door to his office opened abruptly, and The Man himself walked in. The Boss jumped, quickly swiping the paper and hiding it in a drawer.

"Jesus, Man!" Boss shouted. "Have you ever heard of knocking?"

"I'm so sorry, Boss," The Man replied, looking down. "but Quackity is calling for you."

"Quackity?" Boss stood up, walking around his desk towards The Man. "Well then, ignore what I just said! This is wonderful! Where is he?"

The Man pulled his buzzing phone out of his pocket, and handed it to Boss, who quickly answered the call, holding the phone to his ear.

"Is this |REDACTED|?" the voice on the other side asked.

"Yes it is," Boss replied. "what do you want?"

The man on the phone sighed. "...I'm sorry, Boss."

"Sorry?" Boss repeated. "Whatever for?"

"The problem I had encountered a week ago," Quackity explained. "It hasn't been resolved. They wanted to join forces instead of continue to fight. I couldn't let my casino be destroyed, no one would come in and our plan would have been ruined."

"You fraternized with the enemy?!" Boss shouted incredulously. "Quackity, you can't do that! You can't trust anyone when you're in our business!"

"I'm sorry!" Quackity apologized frantically. "If I hadn't, I would've lost all of our men! I had already lost four of my people, and I couldn't let anyone else ruin our casino!"

Boss paused for a moment, considering this information. "I see..." he said slowly. "If your casino was ruined, that would destroy our plans entirely. Half of our organization rides on you, and your casino.

"With Las Nevadas, you are able to control the cash flow of the people; hooking them on gambling and playing your games. The more popular your casino is, the more money you control. And with my business producing more and more of the population's energy, our combined forces will eventually be able to control everyone. Neither of us can afford to lose our business if this plan will work."

Quackity laughed. "We're gonna control the world!"

"Yes," Boss told him. "But be patient, Quackity. First, we must eradicate this problem you have. These people that had killed your staff and desecrated your casino, they must be out of our way in order for us to continue."

"Oh, don't worry, Monty, I have my wa-" Quackity stopped, realizing his mistake. "Ah, fuck."

"You idiot!" Boss groaned. "Now everyone reading this chapter knows my name!"

"Sir, do you mind if I say my name as well?" The Man asked.

"The people have probably already figured out that you're Waylon Smithers, my right-hand man," Boss- I mean, Monty, said. "And I'm Monty Burns. Screw you, Quackity, I was trying to make this suspenseful."

"I'm so sorry, Boss," Quackity apologized again. "Before I leave, I wanted to ask; how's the Project coming along?"

Monty chuckled, looking at Waylon. "Oh it's coming along very well...very well indeed."

His chuckles increased in volume, growing more and more maniacal as he continued to laugh. Waylon and Quackity quickly joined him, and their cackles of joy echoed throughout the office, almost seeping into the fabric of the earth.

"Soon, the world will be ours!" Monty declared, to no one...to everyone.
