Chapter Fifteen: The Nuclear Power Plant
The passengers had all stood up when the train stopped moving, and they all began to leave as the doors to the compartments opened. I began to follow the crowd as well, but since there were many people, the aisle between the seats was rather cramped. I bumped into multiple people, including Rarilee, the McDonalds employee. She smiled at me.
"Where are you headed?" she asked.
"I'm going to the Nuclear Power Plant," I told her. "I have some...business to attend to with Monty Burns."
"Oh, Monty?" her face lit up. "He's a good friend of mine! Tell him I said hello!"
"Don't worry, I shall." I said. "I'll tell him right before I punch his face in-"
"What?"
"Nothing!" I exclaimed, attempting to speedwalk away from her, knowing that if she found out that I was going on a quest to kill her friend, she might give me another pun, or do something else that would hinder my progress. When I eventually exited the train amidst a swarm of people, the first thing that caught my eye were two grey cylinders, spewing smoke into the afternoon sky. A smile spread across my face as I looked up at them.
"There it is," I declared.
"The Nuclear Power Plant," Technoblade said from beside me. "An all-too familiar sight for me."
"Shall we continue forth?" Thor asked, gripping his hammer tightly. "We have reached the location of our quest, and we cannot stop now."
"Yeah, let's go," I replied, starting to walk towards the exit of the train station. "Monty Burns is somewhere in that building, and he needs to pay for what he's done."
"If I may interject," JD interjected. "Some of you might know that I've done some work with explosives. Surely you've all heard of the incident at Westerburg High?"
We all nodded, remembering the old school that had been blown up many years ago.
"You caused that?" I asked.
"Yeah," JD smiled. "I sure did. I propose we do the same to this Plant."
"No," I told him. "I like the idea, but I need to kill Monty myself. He destroyed my home, and I'll destroy him. Maybe after I kill him, we can blow up the Plant."
"Yes!" JD shouted in triumph.
The walk to the Nuclear Power Plant was not long, and very soon we stood outside of the building, staring up at its great height. The two tall towers rose up above the rest of the buildings comprising the Plant, spewing black smoke into the clear sky. Barbed wires ran around the perimeter, confining any means of entrance - or escape - to the gate.
"Welp, this place doesn't look that inviting," Techno commented.
"True," I replied. "Since we weren't invited, let's break in instead!"
The gate stood ajar, allowing us to walk into the vast parking lot easily. It wasn't completely empty, however. A few cars were parked near the entrance of the Plant, including an expensive Lamborghini car that we knew belonged to Monty. I didn't recognize the other cars, however, and that made me slightly nervous.
"Glitch, Natasha, would you like to depart this group and break into Montgomery's office?" Thor asked, preparing his hammer for takeoff.
"Sure!" they replied, walking over to him. Glitch smiled at me.
"Good luck," I told them. "If you see any other papers besides the Project worth noting, feel free to take them as well!"
"Got it!" they replied, before Thor yeeted his hammer into the air and they all flew away. I watched them depart for a moment, before an angry voice shouted from nearby.
"HEY!"
I turned, and saw that guy from the Lego City commercials storming towards us. He was followed by several more guards, all of which were holding guns that were pointed at us.
"What do you think you're doing here?" one of the guards demanded. He was large, and purple, and wore a weird metal glove on his left hand. It was encrusted with jewels that looked like it could destroy half of the world with one snap.
"Uh- breaking in?" JD replied.
"Breaking in is not allowed here!" a kid with a red shirt, a red backpack, and thick glasses shouted. "When will you learn- when will you learn, that your ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES-"
A loud bang caused the child to fall over and die. I looked over to see that JD was holding a pistol in his hands, and that Techno had drawn his sword.
"Anyone else want a go?" Techno asked.
The guards squealed like younglings, and they all fled instantaneously.
"Our mere might has defeated the greatest guards to exist," I said heroically.
"Or maybe it's because the writer was too lazy to write a fight scene." JD noted.
"Yeah, or that," I replied.
"Guys, we have to go!" Techno interrupted. "Monty might not be here for long!"
"True," I said, walking towards the Nuclear Power Plant once more.
Upon reaching the doors, we pulled them open and stepped inside the building. The Plant was dark and cold, and I shivered as I entered. We began to stride down the long hallways, passing many doors and rooms, searching for a sign of Monty. If I hadn't seen the numbers and letters marking the different doors, I would've thought we were walking in circles.
"6-A...6-B..." I muttered.
We eventually passed Sector 7-G, and I froze. Pressing my ear to the door, I could hear the muffled sounds of voices on the other side.
"What is it?" JD asked.
"It's him..." I whispered. "He's here."
Techno unsheathed his sword once more, and JD pulled out his gun. I slowly turned the knob of the door, hoping to sneak in and catch Monty by surprise, and pushed it ajar. This method proved to be futile, for the door emitted a loud squeal as the hinges moved.
"Fuck." I swore.
Montgomery Burns sat before us at a desk, which was covered with many buttons, levers, and screens. His back was turned to us, which prompted me to believe that he didn't know we were here.
"Well, well, well." he said, disproving my theory as he spun his chair around to face us, like a true supervillain. "We've been expecting you."
Before I could ask what he meant by 'we', the door suddenly slammed behind us. I jumped and turned to see Ennard, who stood in front of the closed doors, an evil smile on his bandaged face. I spun back to face Monty, who was now joined by Waylon Smithers and Quackity, both of which were glaring at us menacingly. A shiver ran down my spine as I felt Techno tense up from beside me as he, too, realized that we were outnumbered.
I was screwed.
