CHAPTER 10

Chapter 10

Lamais's pov

Even though I've lived a sheltered life where sexuality is concerned, I have a great knowledge of it. I had no friends to talk about such things with, my grandma had been a good supplier of information in that field and my mother had told me the more important things about not getting pregnant and how to conduct myself. It had felt good hugging Cushane, he was so big and muscular yet his touch was so gentle.

"I like a man, a lot," I said and smile at the tomato tree I was picking from.

"He's handsome and educated and that's good enough for me, I know grandma would have like him," I told the sweetpepper plants as I pick from it.

I took up the filled basket and walk to where I had left the basin with three nice size soursops, I carried them all back to the kitchen and get started on the juices. With all types of people visiting, it was nice to have various fruit juices and drinks to offer, I pour them into bottles and put them in the deep freezer.

A truck sounded and I look out to see the goods truck arriving, Shanty was perched in the front and she came out and opened the gate. I had them unload everything unto the verandah be checked off, writing up a check and giving them afterwards.

When they left I seperated the goods and told Shanty how they should be stocked over by the church. Bro. Smith came and I leave her to direct him to carry over the things to the church kitchen storage and went and got ready for my work as a read-er.

I could see Bro. Kirkland trimming the croutons at the fence side over by the church, Sis. Spence was wringing out a mop to the far side and Sis. Roper was helping Bro. Smith to carry in the food stuffs. They were all looking forward to the convention, carrying their children and spouses to the services and helping to keep the church in order throughout the convention. If I ever start keeping back regular church services it would be because of them, never once had they leave for another church.

Two men came for reading and they purchased some oils and roots, the printer came and he and his team were hanging up the large cloth poster on the high poles at the church wall. I heard the men asking Shanty about the convention and express interest in attending. She explained to them that all were invited and they could bring friends also.

The arrival of both the drinks truck and inspector Gregory had Shanty telling the men a hasty goodbye and she walked to the gate and let in the inspector then went to the drinks truck driver. I hand her the list and the check as she came to me and tell her to send in the inspector and see to it that we receive all that was on the list.

While she was busy I got to dealing with inspector Gregory. "Good day inspector," I greeted him as he came in.

I pointed at the silver dish and he place the money inside it. "Keep standing and stretch your arms forward," I told him.

In order to read his past I had to be entirely focus and if he was the father of Shanty's three oldest children he needs to play his role, they were good children and deserves to know who fathered them. I took out an expensive rainbow candle and lit it while humming the tune of holy mount Zion.

With his gaze firmly directed at me I looked pass the cases he wanted answers to, he was going to win both and I'll tell him afterwards. I saw a younger version of him with a carefree Shanty, then she was carrying his offspring, the candle flare up and I close my eyes- he was held in a trance and I was reading out all his deeds both good and bad. With a swing of my hand I outed the candle and he blinked and looked around.

I got up and went to the back cupboards, as a regular client he knew most of the oils and roots, but not all. I place an unlabeled bottle of 𝘾𝙊𝙈𝙋𝘼𝙎𝙎𝙄𝙊𝙉 𝙊𝙄𝙇 and an that of a bottle of 𝙊𝙄𝙇 𝙊𝙁 𝙍𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙇𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉 in a paper bag along with a blue candle.

"Use these tomorrow morning and evening, both cases are yours. You already know the business account number, the least amount you're suppose to transfer into it is two hundred thousand as you receive the payment from the sentencing case," I told him sternly.

"Yes ma'am," he said and bowed his head to go.

"I'm not through with you yet," I said and he pause.

"After the court cases I have something very important to discuss with you, you can come to me anytime after the convention and wear a white shirt. Have a good day," I told him and he bowed with a slightly worried look on his face and went out.

I took up the rainbow candle quickly and return it to the draw, I count out thirty grand from the seventy he had just given me and put the forty away with the candle locking the drawer. His children will be benefiting from his money, like wise the woman he had misused. My thoughts went to Cushane and I shook my head, he didn't strike me as that type of man and if that should happen I would take him to court.

The thought made me feel sad and I banish it, thinking instead about my work. At one point I use to think it was scamming to ask for much money from clients, until I learn from my grandma that my gift of reading is my job so I should try to earn as if I was working a normal occupation. Also the people winning cases are always well off, some of them did not win the cases honestly and so I did not feel bad getting a portion of it from them.

As a christian there were many things I saw unfit and were enforced by people saying it is what God commanded. For me I agree with some of the rules of Jehovah's witnesses organization, like dressing modest and respecting other people's choices. Certain things should be left up to the individuals preferences, as long as it was not causing harm in any way to others.

Shanty came through the gate and came to where I was standing. "We get everything pon di list ma'am," she told me.

"Good. The brothers are carrying them inside?" I said the ask.

"Yes and I told Sis. Kirkland to stock the fridge," she answered saying.

"Have you bought new shoes and so on for the children to wear for the convention," I ask her.

"Dem have few tings from last year can wear, mi nuh nah buy nutn cause me have Kemar subject dem wey mi a save fi pay fah," she explains in answer.

She knew I will help her with the children so she always mentions their expenses, that was fine by me since there were a few other single mothers I helped out with back to school yearly. I took out the thirty grand from my skirt pocket and hand it to her saying.

"Tomorrow evening when yuh guh for the decorations, check ina di shoes store beside it if yuh see any nice shoes fi you and do children. Friday evening when mi give yuh your pay, I'll give you somn more and I want you to get stockings and other necessary items so you all can look nice."

She smiled brightly taking the money. "Thank you ma'am, I will," she said looking down at the money.

My brother came that evening surprising me, he ask if he could stay instead of at an hotel and I told him yes. I was so happy to see him and we talked to my sister on wattsapp video call, my neices and nephews were five in all with her having two girls and one boy. I thought that was a lot at her age, my brother had a son and a daughter that were and said he did not want any more because they were too expensive.

He went on and on telling my sister and his wife of how surprise he was on seeing the house, our big sister Dewette call me to say she would be visiting to see the house and all that Kemar was gushing about. I disliked the idea of her coming because my brother tells her about the house and how nicely the place was set up. She was not overseas and could have payed a visit now and then, I went to bed leaving him chatting with some of the men from the area out at the gate. They were ketching him up on everything.

A thumping sound penetrated into my sleep waking me up, the house was reverberating from loud music playing downstairs. "What the hell!" I exclaimed standing at the top of the stairs.

The house was filled with people drinking and girating upon each other, I hasted back into my room and got dress. Kemar was nowhere in sight as I push through the sweaty crowd to where a man was playing the music, I dragged out the speaker plugs in anger and shouted.

"Get the hell out of my house everyone of You!"

No one move and I felt even angrier. I marched up the stairs and went for my gun. "Kemar!" I shouted coming back down the stairs with my gun. A pushing and cursing began as they all began to hurry out, I fired a shot into the opposite wall for good measure and that made the house emptied quick.

Kemar marched in afterwards asking me in anger. "What's up?!"

I looked at him and hissed then March to the room I had tidied earlier for him and pushed out his suitcases and things. He began to argue that this was his house but I didn't even bother to answer him. I threw his things out of my house and drew my gun and told him to get the hell out.

I locked my gate and locked up my house uncaring about who leave what and what inside, in the morning I'll have Shanty throw them all outside. I was so angry I was shaking.

To be continued....
