PLOT

Samantha Tores lost both her parents at a very young age, leaving her in the foster system. But that never bothered her. She was just happy that she had grown up in the same city her entire life. Long Island, New York had always been the place Samantha called home for as long as she could remember. It was one of the only things consistent throughout her life. That and her best friend, Clare Louis, who the Tores girl had known for her entire life. They were both in the foster system and had done everything together. Samantha and Clare were inseparable, or at least they thought they were. That was until the accident that changed everything.

Clare was gone.

Now Samantha was left to navigate the world alone, which wasn't easy for her. She started closing herself off to everyone around her, including her latest foster family. Her schoolwork was also affected and her grades began to drop. To the world, it seemed Samantha was simply a shell of her former self. But she felt everything crumbling around her. Most people let her slip away, but one person was concerned about the Tores girl. And that was her English teacher. Mr. Simon noticed how the girl was becoming a shell of her former self, and he didn't blame her for that. Instead, he gave her something he thought would help her. It was a book full of Greek myths. He knew it wasn't much, but he also knew how much Samantha loved to learn about those legends.

But she didn't expect those legends to become her reality.

It all happened one day during her English class. Mr. Simon gave them a lesson on Shakespeare while Samantha read her book at her desk in the back of the room. She had been having a hard time sleeping the past few nights. Nightmares of the accident made her scared to fall asleep. As she read through the pages of her book, the Tores girl felt her eyelids grow heavy. She soon fell fast asleep at her desk, only to wake up to find herself literally falling. Samantha couldn't help but scream until she landed in a lake. The cool water was enough to snap her out of her daze. She quickly swam toward the light and broke through the water's surface. Samantha was shocked when she saw a group of kids staring at her from the shore. But what shocked her even more was that one of the kids looked familiar to her.

She looked exactly like Clare.
