Chapter 7

So, a double update day it is! This chapter is much longer and has many of the scenes from "The Reckoning". Obviously things are different but some lines have changed the same. Love you all!

I had never personally gone to school. All of the teenagers that I met way back in the day said they hated the place. Some would go as far as to compare the place to a prison, the teachers becoming the good cops or the bad cops. Most of the time I thought that they were being dramatic, but now seeing all of the lockers lined up down the hall with their own locks, I see that they may have had a point.

Just from down the hall I could see that girl, Caroline, making out with a tan boy. He smelled like mutt. This must be the famous Tyler Lockwood. I don't see what she sees in that guy. He radiates misogynistic alpha male energy. Not the vibe we want in the school here tonight. God, he isn't even that hot, Caroline, both of my mates are more attractive than this guy.

Rebekah and I zoomed up in front of the two. "Do we know you two?" The boy asked, stepping away from the girl he had just shared a lip-locking moment with.

"Caroline, nice to see you again. You must be Tyler, the werewolf," Rebekah's fake kind voice rang in my ears. Master manipulator, sister dearest.

"And who are you two?" Tyler's voice shaked with fake confidence. He looked me up and down. Rebekah and I giggled.

"We're the new girls," Rebekah and I said in unison before I snapped Caroline's neck and Rebekah grabbed Tyler. This is too easy. Do these people seriously not know how to fight back. That boy is supposed to be a werewolf. Do wolves these days just lie down on their backs and beg for belly rubs?

I dragged Caroline in the gymnasium, Rebekah at my side with Tyler, who had finally decided that he would put up some resistance when it came to an attractive woman dragging him places. Must have been the first time.

"Get off of me!" Tyler demands, Rebekah just scoffs and brings him over to Nik.

"I think you've both met my sisters, Rebekah and Astrid. Word of warning - Rebekah can be quite mean," Nik introduces us, Damon and Stefan at my side once more.

"Don't be an ass," Rebekah reprimands. I just laugh as she shoves Tyler closer to Nik.

"Leave him alone!" Elena demands, her voice cracking at the sight of her friend. Or her friend's boyfriend, I don't think they're really that close, childhood playmates at most, acquaintances at least.

"I'm going to make this very simple: Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually," Nik drones on before taking a bite out of his wrist and shoving the blood into Tyler's mouth. I make a motion of warning for my mates to stay back. Getting in the way of Nik is abad idea, even when you're part of the family. "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie." Nik grabs a hold of Tyler's head. "And for Tyler's sake . . . you better hurry," Nik warns, snapping Tyler's neck.

People gasp and look at us in disgust. Elena looks like she's going to cry again. This one guy with blonde hair and blue eyes looks like he wants to kill us all. "He killed him," he states.

"He's not dead. Klaus' blood will turn him into a vampire," Elena tries to console the blue eyed boy.

"And if Bonnie's successful, he'll live through his transition. Go on, then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold on to Elena for safe keeping." The witch girl looks to her friend while Rebekah goes up behind Elena and glares at the girls.

"So this is the latest doppelganger. The original one was much prettier," Rebekah snides. Nik looks less than impressed at our sister's comments.

"Enough, Rebekah, take the wolf boy elsewhere, would you? Let Striddy spend some time with her mates and their old friends. We will be here when you get back." Rebekah nods and starts to drag out the kinda-dead werewolf. "Just ignore her. Petty little thing."

After a while of waiting, I looked at Caroline. I was desperately bored sitting on Stefan's lap. I zipped over to take out her cell phone. If I had to wait for Nik's diabolical plan to work out I would have to at least have something to look at while doing so.

Looking through the photos I came across one photo in particular, one of Stefan and Elena. It made me annoyed, my mate with someone else. I almost deleted it, but not before looking at the necklace that the girl was wearing. Rebekah's necklace! I whipped up out of Stefan's lap once again and zipped to the doppelganger, who screamed in shock.

"WHERE IS MY SISTER'S NECKLACE, ELENA?" I shouted. Everyone in the room turned to see me. Nik came over and put a calming hand on my shoulder. "Nik, she has the necklace. Look at this picture," I said, worry in my voice as I made the picture larger, revealing Elena wearing the necklace.

"Elena, this is you with the necklace is it not?" Elena nodded her head as Nik questioned her. "All I want is the truth, love, where is my sister's necklace?"

"I - I - I don't have it anymore! I swear!" Elena promises. Even if I didn't want to believe it, she was telling us the truth. Wrong question brother. The real question is, who has the necklace. She knows that she wants to live. She will do anything to live in the end, just like all of the doppelgangers. It doesn't matter who has to die, as long as she gets what she wants from us all she will be all fine and dandy.

"Who has the necklace at the moment, Elena? Is it one of your little friends? You wouldn't give that thing away to just anyone. It seems you had grown attached to the pretty thing. Too bad you didn't know that it doesn't belong to you," I muse. I conceal the annoyance filling all parts of my body. Just like Nik, I am quick to get annoyed with someone.

"Katherine has the necklace. She stole it from me, okay?" I growl at the name of my former best friend. After everything, Katerina knew how much value that necklace had. She probably is trying to bargain for her freedom. Too bad I don't work like that. Her betrayal runs too deep. I will make sure that she pays for what she did to my family.

"Katerina Petrova," I let the name sink down on my tongue as Nik repeats the name to himself as well.

Nik stands up and waves his hands. "Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?" Nik dramatically points to the clock in the gym. The buzzer sounds in the gym. Such a dreadful noise. "20 minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I'll have my baby sister kill Caroline."

I smirk. Payback for nearly biting me. Sometimes there is nobility in murder. "Klaus, don't make her do that," Elena tries to persuade.

"I would be perfectly happy with Caroline's heart in my hand, Elena. See, she attacked me. I don't take any form of betrayal very well. I mean, what kind of idiot attacks someone in their new home?" I laugh. Nik lets out an inaudible chuckle and continues his games.

"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine," Nik orders Stefan. This time, Stefan wasn't compelled, just sipping a bag of human blood while Damon watched from one of the corners

"Well, the verdict's in, the Original Witch says the doppelganger should be dead," Nik states. Tyler looks like he's in a lot of pain and Caroline looks confused. Mixed emotions from the crowd! I wonder if what I was saying is true. Could Elena be the key to the transition of Tyler?

"Does that mean that we can kill her?" Rebekah asks enthusiastically. Damn, I wish.

"No, I'm fairly certain it means the opposite. Call it a hunch," Nik turns to Tyler with Elena's blood in a vial. "Elena's blood, drink it."

Caroline cries out in protest. I just shake my head in disbelief. After all of these years you still are trying to mess with Nik, mother dearest. I'm glad Nik already tore out your heart because if you were still alive I would have your head on the floor right now.

"If he doesn't feed, he'll die anyway, love. Consider this an experiment," Nik looks at Tyler as he hands him the vial of blood. He drinks it and he seems to strengthen.

"So baby sister was right," Rebekah muses. I beam as Stefan comes back to me and takes my hand in his. I smile up at him.

"You knew?" Nik asks me.

"She had a hunch. We talked about it on the car ride over here. I thought that she was crazy," Rebekah pats me on the shoulder.

"We should get that stupid doppelganger and get out of this pony town. Stefan, Damon, are you coming with us?" I ask, hoping that they would want to come with me and my family.

"Why would they not, Striddy, they are Mikaelsons now. Feared, part of the most powerful family," Nik offered them his kinship, something he had only done once before for a small slave boy back in New Orleans. I went over and kissed Nik on the cheek, showing my gratitude that he was giving his blessing for our relationship.

"I'm in. Salvatore-Mikaelson sounds like a cool name to have. Make me sound royal, or like a woman in the 90s," Damon smiles at the doorway.

"I'd go wherever you want to go. Nik used to be my friend and I would love to have more family," Stefan says, picking me up and kissing me on the cheek. I squealed at the sign of affection and Rebekah slapped him playfully on the back.

"To onward!"

For the first time in centuries, I felt truly loved.
