Chapter 20
I think that we're going to be seeing a lot more of Jeremy soon. The show did him fucking dirty istg he was a mood. Big chapter ahead. I don't think I've done this big of a chapter in this book lol.
Henrik had taken the job of finding out where in Mystic Falls Mikael was. While we had all decided that we would stay home for the day, Henrik would be waiting for us at the end of the school day. Mikael would most likely be waiting for us outside of the school, only to find the long lost son that he once thought dead.
It was the perfect distraction.
While we did not want to risk the safety of our youngest once again, we had been given no other choice. Henrik had taken a gulp of my blood before he went to school. He would take another once we met up. This fight could get bloody and I could not afford to lose Henrik again. We had lost our family once before and would not make the same mistakes again.
With Stefan and Damon at my side, I felt stronger than ever before. Our bond strengthened us all, my strength flowing through them and practically turning them into Original vampires. The ripper gene seemed to have an effect on my vampire as well, making the beast inside of me even wilder than usual in the face of a threat.
I had learned many things over the past few weeks about the mating bond. The entire family had. For one, I could feel Stefan and Damon's emotions as if they were my own. This meant that every bit of stress that they felt, I felt. With Stefan, since our bond had already solidified completely and had been put into place, I could send over calming emotions when he became overwhelmed. Whether or not he had learned how to do this with me remains unknown.
Another thing that had come to light was that Nik felt like he was near his mate, but could not seem to sniff her out. He said that he knew it was a woman and that she was in Mystic Falls. It had been haunting him for the last few weeks, but he had only just told the family. He said that he wanted to wait until he could be sure.
Werewolves usually can sniff out their mates, meaning that Nik not being able to do so infuriated him and made him constantly on edge. Rebekah, Henrik, and I had tried to assure him that he would find her and that she would be very happy to be with the family. One of Nik's many flaws is that he is deathly insecure, no matter how mighty and confident he acts on the outside. Nik would literally accept whomever his mate was, he had little to no standards in that department.
From: Henrik
I can see Mikael. He has no clue that I am here at the school. I think that he is trying to sniff you all out. It's good that Damon and Stefan are able to mask your scent.
I smirk. Our car had already been parked. I turned to look into the woods. Mikael was sitting there, waiting patiently with something in his pocket. A single white oak stake is nothing, father. You really do need to get some new tricks. Of course, you would never listen to me, your little abomination, as your pride exceeds your technique.
"You see him?" Stefan whispers into my ear, making sure that no other vampire ears could listen. I nod and point out the tinted windows to Mikael. Damon and Stefan let out a sigh. "We need to get Henrik, make sure that he's okay. Who knows what Bonnie could have done to him already," Stefan suggests. Damon and I nod in agreement, moving the car so that Mikael would not see us coming into the school.
We walked in, just like any other students. Damon would be acting as Stefan's guardian older brother who needs to excuse our absence for the day. Damn, school, if only you knew that my crazy and abusive 1000 year old father is outside of the school and is trying to kill me. I don't think that you'll ever be ready to hear the stories I could tell you.
"Miss Mikaelson and Mr. Salvatore, I am glad that you are here from that swimming championship. I hope all good times in your relays," Mr. Weber says, a smile on his face. Right, because Stefan and I are on the swim team. Honestly, I'm pretty good at swimming. One of the only girls to learn in the village, too.
"Of course. I got 3rd place, but Astrid here got 1st place," Stefan wraps an arm around me. I smile and nod. Principal Weber seems impressed and lets Damon hand in our notes. Stefan and I split up, going to our very last class while Damon sat in the lobby since there was only about 20 minutes left. Thankfully, I had Henrik in my class, since it was our elective.
This was also a class that I shared with Elena, Bonnie, and Jeremy. I gave Henrik and Jeremy a smile, as we sat at the same table, much to Elena's dismay. It seemed that we were handling some smaller knives in the class today. I gave Elena a wink and I could have sworn she nearly started crying. Oh, Elena, you're in for it. Don't you know that since you're a vampire and a part of Niklaus' bloodline, you'll die if you have Mikael kill him? Such a pity, to, we could have let you live in peace here. You could have stayed human, but you pissed me off.
"Glad that you're here, Astrid, things were about to get hella boring," Jeremy says. I smile at the younger boy.
"You know that I would never miss a chance to piss your sister off and wield a knife at the same time," I say in a sing-song voice. Jeremy and Henrik laugh before looking over at where Elena was growling at me. I turn to her and fake pout, causing the boys to laugh even more. I had compelled the teacher to get Elena in trouble as much as possible and to leave whomever was in my table group alone. I had also compelled Mrs. June to give us candy every day. Jeremy appreciated the gesture.
"Where have you been, Astrid? It's been boring with no group. Damn, never thought I would say that," Jeremy asks me. I knew that he wouldn't go to Elena with any information. He had been like a little spy for the Mikaelsons since he heard about Elena wanting to kill me and my family. Apparently, according to Jeremy, she had made remarks about killing Henrik as well. That didn't sit well with Jeremy and BOOM, here we are.
"Completed the mating bond with Damon about a week ago. His vampire is really sensitive and doesn't want to be separated from me for more than an hour at a time. He'll be fine for now, but by the end of class he'll be all over me," Jeremy looks a bit confused.
"Wait, but Stefan didn't do this, did he?" I shook my head.
"Elijah thinks that it may have to do with how Damon was raised and turned. He always felt left behind, so now that he finally has someone to hold on to, he can't let go. Elijah says that he's seen it happen to people before. Since the bond is new, everything is even more heightened, even for a vampire. It's an overwhelming process. I share emotions with two different people now," Jeremy let out an "oh".
Elena had come over to our table with a scowl on her face. "So, how's life at home?" She asks condescendingly. I laugh at her behavior. So childish, the Petrova doppelgangers.
"Great, actually. Your little Elena gang is really bad at hiding things. You see, Elena, I don't think you really get how I work," Her face shifts as I swing the knife around, "I just don't attack unless provoked. You've technically provoked me, but I'll get my revenge on you later. Doppelganger whores are the least of my problems right now."
Elena smirks. "I bet your father is going to love seeing what a monster you've become." Ooh, low blow, Elena. Thankfully, I'm not made of glass like you.
"Daddy is about to be six feet under. He can judge me from the other side," Elena looks surprised that I know. I swear this bitch is slow. "Mikael will think of me as a monster no matter how many times I prove him wrong. Daddy just hates being wrong. I bet you know this already, put pride is a sin, not loyalty. See, daddy isn't loyal to anyone but himself. He isn't even loyal to his morals. At least I know what I believe in and stick to it."
"How do you not see how sick and twisted you are. You literally compelled my brother into being friends with you. That's so wrong on so many levels!" Elena exclaims. Jeremy looks at his older sister like she's crazy.
"Uhm, Elena, I'm not being compelled. I drink vervain tea and wear a vervain bracelet, I can't be compelled," Jeremy says awkwardly. Elena gives him a look of anger and grabs his arm. "Hey! Let me go, Elena!"
I grab Elena by the throat. It was a miracle that nobody in the class was watching this go down. "Don't you ever touch Jeremy like that again. Believe it or not, Elena, I quite like Jeremy, and so does my little brother. Why can't you just be a non-naggy older sister and keep your doppelganger ass out of Jeremy's business. You have no right to dictate what kind of people Jeremy hangs out with. You were doppel stringing two vampires, one who is technically a ripper vampire, and one who had some abandonment issues. You are best friends with a vampire and a mediocre witch. You raised an abusive, lying, psychotic Original Hunter who wants to end the man that created your sire line. Guess what, Elena, if Nik dies, you die as well. No witch can save you from the fate of the sire line's death," I inform Elena, who is about to cry now.
"Elena, what is wrong with you? You always do things that either get you or yourself killed! You hold such a grudge against Astrid, but really she should be the one holding a grudge against you! What is so bad about Astrid? About Klaus? They just wanted a good life! When has that been bad!" Jeremy questions his older sister and her intentions.
"Abused by her parents all of her life, she clings to the one who first brought her back into the family. That isn't love. You don't just turn a blind eye when your family slaughters thousands of people. She defends a man who tried to kill me just because he's her brother! She's just as bad as him, if not worse!" Elena claims. I laugh.
"Oh yeah, Elena, just like how you turned a blind eye to Damon and Stefan when they killed people. Like when you turned a blind eye to Caroline after she killed someone. What the hell, Elena? What the actual hell has gotten into you? Ever since mom and dad died you've been a shitty person and an even shittier sister!" Jeremy yells at her. Okay, now I'm pretty sure that I had to have compelled this class to not pay attention to anything that happens back here.
"I just wanted to protect you, Jer," Elena claims.
"No, you wanted to protect your agenda. You disguise your selfishness as love for me, for your friends. You're worse than Klaus could ever be. At least I know that he truly loves his family," Elena lets out a sob as Jeremy continues, "So yeah, I've been helping him defeat Mikael. Why? Because they have been kind to me. For the first time in a while, I don't feel like I don't have anyone. Henrik is the best person I have ever had. He's there for me when you're off doing your plotting and scheming with Bonnie."
The bell rang for the end of the day and Jeremy pushed past his sister. I sighed, holding Henrik's arm, telling Elena, "You did this to yourself."
I sped Henrik behind a building so that Mikael wouldn't see him just yet. Mikael took notice, looking me dead in the eye from a ways away. It was time, we would make our final stand. His cold blue eyes stared into my hazel ones, the storm versus the earth. In the end, the storm would end, leaving the land alive, no matter how battered and bruised. I was the land, and I would survive.
