34. ANCHORED DREAMS
"Does it– does it hurt? Dying?"
"Quicker than falling asleep, sweet Ariel."
The words were soft, yet tinged with sadness, like the melody of raindrops crashing against the rocky shore, or a lonely child asking for a hug, yet only receiving the cold and empty space of neglect and sorrow.
"It is an odd thing, dying, isn't it?"
There's a feeling of sinking slowly, but unlike other things, you do not feel the water filling your lungs as one would with drowning. Instead, there are no pains, no regrets, no panic. The veil of death becomes thicker as the breath leaves you, and a strange vision fills your mind when all other visions disappear behind the veil. It is not an eerie sight; there is even a certain calmness in the beauty of it all.
Your eyes grow dim, your ears quiet, and you are swallowed by the warm embrace of the sea. The peaceful lullaby of your last memories surround you, bringing you comfort in the darkness. The voices become songs, each word a new melody, each memory a soothing refrain. The fear of the coming journey melts away, replaced by a hauntingly sweet lullaby that follows all things into the infinite dark.
You yearn for the light, the brightness that comes with reaching the surface. Yet, your movements are weighed, held back by the pull of the sea. Something is keeping you from surfacing, from reaching the light and the warmth of the summer sun. And yet, it is not a heavy force that holds you back, but a feeling of comfort. You want to swim for the surface yet something stops you. The dark sea seems to call to you. The lullaby of the deep has you wrapped in its embrace...
Anchors sink deeply, their heavy weight pulling all that is above down with them. But anchors do not simply hold you down; they also bring you back. It is the connection with someone that binds you, the string that links your hearts. No matter the strength of the anchor, it only serves to bring what is above with it. The light shines from above, the sea pulls from below, and between them is the one who holds your heart...
Be it in the tranquil harbor or the turbulent seas, the anchor is a symbol of security and stability in all its forms. Visually, the anchor is a combination of a cross and a trident, a scepter of sorts. A weapon of war in the old myths, the anchor also represents the foundation of lasting love and the hope for heavenly bliss. The two are bound together, and the anchor bears the weight of both, for the foundation of love must also be built on safety and security, just as the anchor is.
The anchor is a symbol of love, one that represents the deepest and purest of emotions found within the heart. It symbolizes the unbreakable connection of family – a home port that provides protection and care, support and security. But it is more than that; its spirit also symbolizes the feeling of adventure and the sense of freedom that comes with exploring new realms.
It is said that, at the moment before you leave this world for the next, your soul reveals your deepest, most hidden desire. So what was our little mermaid's last heartfelt wish? Was it to be reunited with her one true love? Was it to reach out to the surface, touch the sunlight, and experience the human world? Or was it something much simpler, like being held close by the one she loved most?
The deeper you sink into the watery depths, the closer you are to the eternal infinity below. It is a brightly glittering, sparkling, radiant, and shimmering paradise down there, yet it can only be visited by those who are ready to die. It is a shame such a stunningly beautiful world can only be seen in the face of mortality.
In the space between life and death, things are forgotten. Time becomes blurred, pain becomes distant, and sadness feels fleeting. Instead, the beauty of life comes to the forefront of your mind, the precious moments that gave your life meaning. You forget your humanity, no longer bound by mortality, and instead you are free to explore the beauty around you without being weighed down by the trials and tribulations found only in life.
"I beg you, my love, come back to me," he implored. His heart ached at the thought of spending an eternity without her nearby.
"But what if I can't?" The little mermaid begged for his understanding. She had been through so much, and all she wanted was to rest.
"You're the bravest soul I know. You've already swam through so much storms... Would you really give up now?" He was desperate to keep her by his side, and he would not accept her surrender. "Please, dear Ariel," he beseeched, his heart aching at the thought of being so far apart from her.
"But how can I reach you from down there?" The mermaid pleaded, her body drifting away from him, the coldness of death wrapping around her.
"Just one sign." He pleaded. "Just one single sign that you're still with me, and I will do whatever I can to reach you." His words echoed through the waters, carried by his love and desperation.
This was all that was needed. A single sign. In the gentle sway of her thumb, whispered echoes of determination stirred, anchoring her to hope's fragile shore. It was but a tender gesture, yet in its quiet resolve, she found the strength to persist, to defy the tide of despair that threatened to engulf her. It was enough to him to not give her up.
In the depths of the Hydra base, amidst the chaos and danger, Captain America's heart leaped when he laid eyes on Siren for the very first time. But it was just a mere coincidence. The second encounter though only deepened Steve Rogers' conviction that their meeting was meant to be. But by the third time, it was undeniable—their connection was like a thread woven into the fabric of destiny, drawing the desperate boy back to the girl he yearned for with every fiber of his being.
"Please, come back to me, brave Ariel," he whispered with a heart heavy with love and longing, his voice carrying across the waves like a tender melody. Please, return to me, for my heart knows no peace without you by my side, just as the ocean yearns for the embrace of the shore...
